A courtroom drama centuries ahead of its time. Susanna, a godly and beautiful wife, is trapped by two corrupt elders whose false charge carries a death sentence. Into the hopeless case walks a young Daniel, who separates the witnesses and cross-examines them — each cracks, and the truth comes out. It is literature's first legal-procedure thriller, and possibly the earliest Daniel story ever told. The book survives in Greek; a Hebrew original has been claimed but not proven. In the ancient Greek Bibles it stood as chapter 13 of Daniel, which is where Jerome tucked it in the Vulgate.
