Jonah: Chapter 1

1Now the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto JonahH3124 the sonH1121 of AmittaiH0573, sayingH0559, 2AriseH6965, goH3212 to NinevehH5210, that greatH1419 cityH5892, and cryH7121 against it; for their wickednessH7451 is come upH5927 beforeH6440 me. 3But JonahH3124 rose upH6965 to fleeH1272 unto TarshishH8659 from the presenceH6440 of the LORDH3068, and went downH3381 to JoppaH3305; and he foundH4672 a shipH0591 goingH0935 to TarshishH8659: so he paidH5414 the fareH7939 thereof, and went downH3381 into it, to goH0935 with them unto TarshishH8659 from the presenceH6440 of the LORDH3068.

4But the LORDH3068 sent outH2904 a greatH1419 windH7307 into the seaH3220, and there was a mightyH1419 tempestH5591 in the seaH3220, so that the shipH0591 was likeH2803 to be brokenH7665. 5Then the marinersH4419 were afraidH3372, and criedH2199 every manH0376 unto his godH0430, and cast forthH2904 the waresH3627 that were in the shipH0591 into the seaH3220, to lightenH7043 it of them. But JonahH3124 was gone downH3381 into the sidesH3411 of the shipH5600; and he layH7901, and was fast asleepH7290. 6So the shipmasterH7227 cameH7126 to him, and saidH0559 unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeperH7290? ariseH6965, callH7121 upon thy GodH0430, if so be that GodH0430 will thinkH6245 upon us, that we perishH0006 not. 7And they saidH0559 every oneH0376 to his fellowH7453, ComeH3212, and let us castH5307 lotsH1486, that we may knowH3045 for whose causeH7945 this evilH7451 is upon us. So they castH5307 lotsH1486, and the lotH1486 fellH5307 upon JonahH3124. 8Then saidH0559 they unto him, TellH5046 us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evilH7451 is upon us; What is thine occupationH4399? and whenceH0370 comestH0935 thou? what is thy countryH0776? and of what peopleH5971 art thou? 9And he saidH0559 unto them, I am an HebrewH5680; and I fearH3373 the LORDH3068, the GodH0430 of heavenH8064, which hath madeH6213 the seaH3220 and the dryH3004 land . 10Then were the menH0582 exceedinglyH1419 afraidH3372, and saidH0559 unto him, Why hast thou doneH6213 this? For the menH0582 knewH3045 that he fledH1272 from the presenceH6440 of the LORDH3068, because he had toldH5046 them.

11Then saidH0559 they unto him, What shall we doH6213 unto thee, that the seaH3220 may be calmH8367 unto us? for the seaH3220 wroughtH1980, and was tempestuousH5590. 12And he saidH0559 unto them, Take me upH5375, and cast me forthH2904 into the seaH3220; so shall the seaH3220 be calmH8367 unto you: for I knowH3045 that for my sakeH7945 this greatH1419 tempestH5591 is upon you. 13Nevertheless the menH0582 rowed hardH2864 to bringH7725 it to the landH3004; but they couldH3201 not: for the seaH3220 wroughtH1980, and was tempestuousH5590 against them. 14Wherefore they criedH7121 unto the LORDH3068, and saidH0559, We beseech theeH0577, O LORDH3068, we beseech thee, let us not perishH0006 for this mansH0376 lifeH5315, and layH5414 not upon us innocentH5355 bloodH1818: for thou, O LORDH3068, hast doneH6213 as it pleasedH2654 thee. 15So they took upH5375 JonahH3124, and cast him forthH2904 into the seaH3220: and the seaH3220 ceasedH5975 from her ragingH2197. 16Then the menH0582 fearedH3372 the LORDH3068 exceedinglyH1419, and offeredH2076 a sacrificeH2077 unto the LORDH3068, and madeH5087 vowsH5088.

17Now the LORDH3068 had preparedH4487 a greatH1419 fishH1709 to swallow upH1104 JonahH3124. And JonahH3124 was in the bellyH4578 of the fishH1709 threeH7969 daysH3117 and threeH7969 nightsH3915.

Jonah: Chapter 2

1Then JonahH3124 prayedH6419 unto the LORDH3068 his GodH0430 out of the fishsH1710 bellyH4578, 2And saidH0559, I criedH7121 by reason of mine afflictionH6869 unto the LORDH3068, and he heardH6030 me; out of the bellyH0990 of hellH7585 criedH7768 I, and thou heardestH8085 my voiceH6963. 3For thou hadst castH7993 me into the deepH4688, in the midstH3824 of the seasH3220; and the floodsH5104 compassedH5437 me about: all thy billowsH4867 and thy wavesH1530 passed overH5674 me. 4Then I saidH0559, I am cast outH1644 of thy sightH5869; yet I will lookH5027 againH3254 toward thy holyH6944 templeH1964. 5The watersH4325 compassed me aboutH0661, even to the soulH5315: the depthH8415 closed me round aboutH5437, the weedsH5488 were wrapped aboutH2280 my headH7218. 6I went downH3381 to the bottomsH7095 of the mountainsH2022; the earthH0776 with her barsH1280 was about me for everH5769: yet hast thou brought upH5927 my lifeH2416 from corruptionH7845, O LORDH3068 my GodH0430. 7When my soulH5315 faintedH5848 within me I rememberedH2142 the LORDH3068: and my prayerH8605 came inH0935 unto thee, into thine holyH6944 templeH1964. 8They that observeH8104 lyingH7723 vanitiesH1892 forsakeH5800 their own mercyH2617. 9But I will sacrificeH2076 unto thee with the voiceH6963 of thanksgivingH8426; I will payH7999 that that I have vowedH5087. SalvationH3444 is of the LORDH3068.

10And the LORDH3068 spakeH0559 unto the fishH1709, and it vomited outH6958 JonahH3124 upon the dryH3004 land .

Jonah: Chapter 3

1And the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto JonahH3124 the secondH8145 time, sayingH0559, 2AriseH6965, goH3212 unto NinevehH5210, that greatH1419 cityH5892, and preachH7121 unto it the preachingH7150 that I bidH1696 thee. 3So JonahH3124 aroseH6965, and wentH3212 unto NinevehH5210, according to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068. Now NinevehH5210 was an exceedingH0430 greatH1419 cityH5892 of threeH7969 daysH3117 journeyH4109. 4And JonahH3124 beganH2490 to enterH0935 into the cityH5892 aH0259 daysH3117 journeyH4109, and he criedH7121, and saidH0559, Yet fortyH0705 daysH3117, and NinevehH5210 shall be overthrownH2015.

5So the peopleH0582 of NinevehH5210 believedH0539 GodH0430, and proclaimedH7121 a fastH6685, and putH3847 on sackclothH8242, from the greatestH1419 of them even to the leastH6996 of them. 6For wordH1697 cameH5060 unto the kingH4428 of NinevehH5210, and he aroseH6965 from his throneH3678, and he laidH5674 his robeH0155 from him, and coveredH3680 him with sackclothH8242, and satH3427 in ashesH0665. 7And he caused it to be proclaimedH2199 and publishedH0559 through NinevehH5210 by the decreeH2940 of the kingH4428 and his noblesH1419, sayingH0559, Let neither manH0120 nor beastH0929, herdH1241 nor flockH6629, tasteH2938 any thingH3972: let them not feedH7462, nor drinkH8354 waterH4325: 8But let manH0120 and beastH0929 be coveredH3680 with sackclothH8242, and cryH7121 mightilyH2394 unto GodH0430: yea, let them turnH7725 every oneH0376 from his evilH7451 wayH1870, and from the violenceH2555 that is in their handsH3709. 9Who can tellH3045 if GodH0430 will turnH7725 and repentH5162, and turn awayH7725 from his fierceH2740 angerH0639, that we perishH0006 not?

10And GodH0430 sawH7200 their worksH4639, that they turnedH7725 from their evilH7451 wayH1870; and GodH0430 repentedH5162 of the evilH7451, that he had saidH1696 that he would doH6213 unto them; and he didH6213 it not.

Jonah: Chapter 4

1But it displeasedH3415 JonahH3124 exceedinglyH1419, and he was very angryH2734. 2And he prayedH6419 unto the LORDH3068, and saidH0559, I prayH0577 thee, O LORDH3068, was not this my sayingH1697, when I was yet in my countryH0127? Therefore I fledH1272 beforeH6923 unto TarshishH8659: for I knewH3045 that thou art a graciousH2587 GodH0410, and mercifulH7349, slowH0750 to angerH0639, and of greatH7227 kindnessH2617, and repentestH5162 thee of the evilH7451. 3Therefore now, O LORDH3068, takeH3947, I beseech thee, my lifeH5315 from me; for it is betterH2896 for me to dieH4194 than to liveH2416.

4Then saidH0559 the LORDH3068, Doest thou wellH3190 to be angryH2734?

5So JonahH3124 went outH3318 of the cityH5892, and satH3427 on the east sideH6924 of the cityH5892, and there madeH6213 him a boothH5521, and satH3427 under it in the shadowH6738, till he might seeH7200 what would become of the cityH5892. 6And the LORDH3068 GodH0430 preparedH4487 a gourdH7021, and made it to come upH5927 over JonahH3124, that it might be a shadowH6738 over his headH7218, to deliverH5337 him from his griefH7451. So JonahH3124 was exceedingH1419 gladH8055 of the gourdH7021. 7But GodH0430 preparedH4487 a wormH8438 when the morningH7837 roseH5927 the next dayH4283, and it smoteH5221 the gourdH7021 that it witheredH3001. 8And it came to pass, when the sunH8121 did ariseH2224, that GodH0430 preparedH4487 a vehementH2759 eastH6921 windH7307; and the sunH8121 beatH5221 upon the headH7218 of JonahH3124, that he faintedH5968, and wishedH7592 in himselfH5315 to dieH4191, and saidH0559, It is betterH2896 for me to dieH4194 than to liveH2416. 9And GodH0430 saidH0559 to JonahH3124, Doest thou wellH3190 to be angryH2734 for the gourdH7021? And he saidH0559, I do wellH3190 to be angryH2734, even unto deathH4194. 10Then saidH0559 the LORDH3068, Thou hast had pityH2347 on the gourdH7021, for the which thou hast not labouredH5998, neither madest it growH1431; which came up in a nightH1121, and perishedH0006 in a nightH1121: 11And should not I spareH2347 NinevehH5210, that greatH1419 cityH5892, wherein areH3426 moreH7235 than sixscoreH8147 thousandH7239 personsH0120 that cannot discernH3045 between their right handH3225 and their left handH8040; and also muchH7227 cattleH0929?
