1Now it came to pass in the daysH3117 of AhasuerusH0325, (this is AhasuerusH0325 which reignedH4427, from IndiaH1912 even unto EthiopiaH3568, over an hundredH3967 and sevenH7651 and twentyH6242 provincesH4082:) 2 That in those daysH3117, when the kingH4428 AhasuerusH0325 satH3427 on the throneH3678 of his kingdomH4438, which was in ShushanH7800 the palaceH1002, 3In the thirdH7969 yearH8141 of his reignH4427, he madeH6213 a feastH4960 unto all his princesH8269 and his servantsH5650; the powerH2428 of PersiaH6539 and MediaH4074, the noblesH6579 and princesH8269 of the provincesH4082, being beforeH6440 him: 4When he shewedH7200 the richesH6239 of his gloriousH3519 kingdomH4438 and the honourH3366 of his excellentH8597 majestyH1420 manyH7227 daysH3117, even an hundredH3967 and fourscoreH8084 daysH3117. 5And when these daysH3117 were expiredH4390, the kingH4428 madeH6213 a feastH4960 unto all the peopleH5971 that were presentH4672 in ShushanH7800 the palaceH1002, both unto greatH1419 and smallH6996, sevenH7651 daysH3117, in the courtH2691 of the gardenH1594 of the kingsH4428 palaceH1055; 6 Where were whiteH2353, greenH3768, and blueH8504, hangings , fastenedH0270 with cordsH2256 of fine linenH0948 and purpleH0713 to silverH3701 ringsH1550 and pillarsH5982 of marbleH8336: the bedsH4296 were of goldH2091 and silverH3701, upon a pavementH7531 of redH0923, and blueH8504, and whiteH1858, and blackH5508, marbleH8336. 7And they gave them drinkH8248 in vesselsH3627 of goldH2091, (the vesselsH3627 being diverseH8138 one from anotherH3627,) and royalH4438 wineH3196 in abundanceH7227, according to the stateH3027 of the kingH4428. 8And the drinkingH8360 was according to the lawH1881; none did compelH0597: for so the kingH4428 had appointedH3245 to all the officersH7227 of his houseH1004, that they should doH6213 according to every mansH0376 pleasureH7522. 9Also VashtiH2060 the queenH4436 madeH6213 a feastH4960 for the womenH0802 in the royalH4438 houseH1004 which belonged to kingH4428 AhasuerusH0325.
10On the seventhH7637 dayH3117, when the heartH3820 of the kingH4428 was merryH2896 with wineH3196, he commandedH0559 MehumanH4104, BizthaH0968, HarbonaH2726, BigthaH0903, and AbagthaH0005, ZetharH2242, and CarcasH3752, the sevenH7651 chamberlainsH5631 that servedH8334 in the presenceH6440 of AhasuerusH0325 the kingH4428, 11To bringH0935 VashtiH2060 the queenH4436 beforeH6440 the kingH4428 with the crownH3804 royalH4438, to shewH7200 the peopleH5971 and the princesH8269 her beautyH3308: for she was fairH2896 to look onH4758. 12But the queenH4436 VashtiH2060 refusedH3985 to comeH0935 at the kingsH4428 commandmentH1697 byH3027 his chamberlainsH5631: therefore was the kingH4428 veryH3966 wrothH7107, and his angerH2534 burnedH1197 in him.
13Then the kingH4428 saidH0559 to the wise menH2450, which knewH3045 the timesH6256, (for so was the kingsH4428 mannerH1697 towardH6440 all that knewH3045 lawH1881 and judgmentH1779: 14And the nextH7138 unto him was CarshenaH3771, ShetharH8369, AdmathaH0133, TarshishH8659, MeresH4825, MarsenaH4826, and MemucanH4462, the sevenH7651 princesH8269 of PersiaH6539 and MediaH4074, which sawH7200 the kingsH4428 faceH6440, and which satH3427 the firstH7223 in the kingdomH4438;) 15What shall we doH6213 unto the queenH4436 VashtiH2060 according to lawH1881, because she hath not performedH6213 the commandmentH3982 of the kingH4428 AhasuerusH0325 byH3027 the chamberlainsH5631? 16And MemucanH4462 answeredH0559 beforeH6440 the kingH4428 and the princesH8269, VashtiH2060 the queenH4436 hath not done wrongH5753 to the kingH4428 only, but also to all the princesH8269, and to all the peopleH5971 that are in all the provincesH4082 of the kingH4428 AhasuerusH0325. 17For this deedH1697 of the queenH4436 shall come abroadH3318 unto all womenH0802, so that they shall despiseH0959 their husbandsH1167 in their eyesH5869, when it shall be reportedH0559, The kingH4428 AhasuerusH0325 commandedH0559 VashtiH2060 the queenH4436 to be brought inH0935 beforeH6440 him, but she cameH0935 not. 18 Likewise shall the ladiesH8282 of PersiaH6539 and MediaH4074 sayH0559 this dayH3117 unto all the kingsH4428 princesH8269, which have heardH8085 of the deedH1697 of the queenH4436. Thus shall there arise too muchH1767 contemptH0963 and wrathH7110. 19If it pleaseH2895 the kingH4428, let there goH3318 a royalH4438 commandmentH1697 from himH6440, and let it be writtenH3789 among the lawsH1881 of the PersiansH6539 and the MedesH4074, that it be not alteredH5674, That VashtiH2060 comeH0935 no more beforeH6440 kingH4428 AhasuerusH0325; and let the kingH4428 giveH5414 her royal estateH4438 unto anotherH7468 that is betterH2896 than she. 20And when the kingsH4428 decreeH6599 which he shall makeH6213 shall be publishedH8085 throughout all his empireH4438, (for it is greatH7227,) all the wivesH0802 shall giveH5414 to their husbandsH1167 honourH3366, both to greatH1419 and smallH6996. 21And the sayingH1697 pleasedH3190 the kingH4428 and the princesH8269; and the kingH4428 didH6213 according to the wordH1697 of MemucanH4462: 22For he sentH7971 lettersH5612 into all the kingsH4428 provincesH4082, into every provinceH4082 according to the writingH3791 thereof, and to every peopleH5971 after their languageH3956, that every manH0376 should bear ruleH8323 in his own houseH1004, and that it should be publishedH1696 according to the languageH3956 of every peopleH5971.
Esther: Chapter 2
1AfterH0310 these thingsH1697, when the wrathH2534 of kingH4428 AhasuerusH0325 was appeasedH7918, he rememberedH2142 VashtiH2060, and what she had doneH6213, and what was decreedH1504 against her. 2Then saidH0559 the kingsH4428 servantsH5288 that ministeredH8334 unto him, Let there be fairH2896 youngH5291 virginsH1330 soughtH1245 for the kingH4428: 3And let the kingH4428 appointH6485 officersH6496 in all the provincesH4082 of his kingdomH4438, that they may gather togetherH6908 all the fairH2896 youngH5291 virginsH1330 unto ShushanH7800 the palaceH1002, to the houseH1004 of the womenH0802, unto the custodyH3027 of HegeH1896 the kingsH4428 chamberlainH5631, keeperH8104 of the womenH0802; and let their things for purificationH8562 be givenH5414 them: 4And let the maidenH5291 which pleasethH3190 the kingH4428 be queenH4427 instead of VashtiH2060. 5 Now in ShushanH7800 the palaceH1002 there was a certainH0376 JewH3064, whose nameH8034 was MordecaiH4782, the sonH1121 of JairH2971, the sonH1121 of ShimeiH8096, the sonH1121 of KishH7027, a BenjamiteH1145; 6Who had been carried awayH1540 from JerusalemH3389 with the captivityH1473 which had been carried awayH1540 with JeconiahH3204 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, whom NebuchadnezzarH5019 the kingH4428 of BabylonH0894 had carried awayH1540. 7And he brought upH0539 HadassahH1919, that is , EstherH0635, his unclesH1730 daughterH1323: for she had neither fatherH0001 nor motherH0517, and the maidH5291 was fairH3303 and beautifulH2896; whom MordecaiH4782, when her fatherH0001 and motherH0517 were deadH4194, tookH3947 for his own daughterH1323.
8So it came to pass, when the kingsH4428 commandmentH1697 and his decreeH1881 was heardH8085, and when manyH7227 maidensH5291 were gathered togetherH6908 unto ShushanH7800 the palaceH1002, to the custodyH3027 of HegaiH1896, that EstherH0635 was broughtH3947 also unto the kingsH4428 houseH1004, to the custodyH3027 of HegaiH1896, keeperH8104 of the womenH0802. 9And the maidenH5291 pleasedH3190 him, and she obtainedH5375 kindnessH2617 of himH6440; and he speedilyH0926 gaveH5414 her her things for purificationH8562, with such things as belongedH4490 to her, and sevenH7651 maidensH5291, which were meetH7200 to be givenH5414 her, out of the kingsH4428 houseH1004: and he preferredH8138 her and her maidsH5291 unto the bestH2896 place of the houseH1004 of the womenH0802. 10 EstherH0635 had not shewedH5046 her peopleH5971 nor her kindredH4138: for MordecaiH4782 had chargedH6680 her that she should not shewH5046 it . 11And MordecaiH4782 walkedH1980 every dayH3117 beforeH6440 the courtH2691 of the womensH0802 houseH1004, to knowH3045 how EstherH0635 didH7965, and what should becomeH6213 of her.
12Now when every maidsH5291 turnH8447 was comeH5060 to go inH0935 to kingH4428 AhasuerusH0325, afterH7093 that she had been twelveH8147 monthsH2320, according to the mannerH1881 of the womenH0802, (for so were the daysH3117 of their purificationsH4795 accomplishedH4390, to wit , sixH8337 monthsH2320 with oilH8081 of myrrhH4753, and sixH8337 monthsH2320 with sweet odoursH1314, and with other things for the purifyingH8562 of the womenH0802;) 13Then thus cameH0935 every maidenH5291 unto the kingH4428; whatsoever she desiredH0559 was givenH5414 her to goH0935 with her out of the houseH1004 of the womenH0802 unto the kingsH4428 houseH1004. 14In the eveningH6153 she wentH0935, and on the morrowH1242 she returnedH7725 into the secondH8145 houseH1004 of the womenH0802, to the custodyH3027 of ShaashgazH8190, the kingsH4428 chamberlainH5631, which keptH8104 the concubinesH6370: she came inH0935 unto the kingH4428 no more, except the kingH4428 delightedH2654 in her, and that she were calledH7121 by nameH8034.
15Now when the turnH8447 of EstherH0635, the daughterH1323 of AbihailH0032 the uncleH1730 of MordecaiH4782, who had takenH3947 her for his daughterH1323, was comeH5060 to go inH0935 unto the kingH4428, she requiredH1245 nothingH1697 but what HegaiH1896 the kingsH4428 chamberlainH5631, the keeperH8104 of the womenH0802, appointedH0559. And EstherH0635 obtainedH5375 favourH2580 in the sightH5869 of all them that lookedH7200 upon her. 16So EstherH0635 was takenH3947 unto kingH4428 AhasuerusH0325 into his houseH1004 royalH4438 in the tenthH6224 monthH2320, which is the monthH2320 TebethH2887, in the seventhH7651 yearH8141 of his reignH4438. 17And the kingH4428 lovedH0157 EstherH0635 above all the womenH0802, and she obtainedH5375 graceH2580 and favourH2617 in his sightH6440 more than all the virginsH1330; so that he setH7760 the royalH4438 crownH3804 upon her headH7218, and made her queenH4427 instead of VashtiH2060. 18Then the kingH4428 madeH6213 a greatH1419 feastH4960 unto all his princesH8269 and his servantsH5650, even EsthersH0635 feastH4960; and he madeH6213 a releaseH2010 to the provincesH4082, and gaveH5414 giftsH4864, according to the stateH3027 of the kingH4428. 19And when the virginsH1330 were gathered togetherH6908 the second timeH8145, then MordecaiH4782 satH3427 in the kingsH4428 gateH8179. 20 EstherH0635 had not yet shewedH5046 her kindredH4138 nor her peopleH5971; as MordecaiH4782 had chargedH6680 her: for EstherH0635 didH6213 the commandmentH3982 of MordecaiH4782, like as when she was brought upH0545 with him.
21In those daysH3117, while MordecaiH4782 satH3427 in the kingsH4428 gateH8179, twoH8147 of the kingsH4428 chamberlainsH5631, BigthanH0904 and TereshH8657, of those which keptH8104 the doorH5592, were wrothH7107, and soughtH1245 to layH7971 handH3027 on the kingH4428 AhasuerusH0325. 22And the thingH1697 was knownH3045 to MordecaiH4782, who toldH5046 it unto EstherH0635 the queenH4436; and EstherH0635 certifiedH0559 the kingH4428 thereof in MordecaisH4782 nameH8034. 23And when inquisitionH1245 was made of the matterH1697, it was found outH4672; therefore they were bothH8147 hangedH8518 on a treeH6086: and it was writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697 beforeH6440 the kingH4428.
Esther: Chapter 3
1AfterH0310 these thingsH1697 did kingH4428 AhasuerusH0325 promoteH1431 HamanH2001 the sonH1121 of HammedathaH4099 the AgagiteH0091, and advancedH5375 him, and setH7760 his seatH3678 above all the princesH8269 that were with him. 2And all the kingsH4428 servantsH5650, that were in the kingsH4428 gateH8179, bowedH3766, and reverencedH7812 HamanH2001: for the kingH4428 had so commandedH6680 concerning him. But MordecaiH4782 bowedH3766 not, nor did him reverenceH7812. 3Then the kingsH4428 servantsH5650, which were in the kingsH4428 gateH8179, saidH0559 unto MordecaiH4782, Why transgressestH5674 thou the kingsH4428 commandmentH4687? 4Now it came to pass, when they spakeH0559 dailyH3117 unto him, and he hearkenedH8085 not unto them, that they toldH5046 HamanH2001, to seeH7200 whether MordecaisH4782 mattersH1697 would standH5975: for he had toldH5046 them that he was a JewH3064. 5And when HamanH2001 sawH7200 that MordecaiH4782 bowedH3766 not, nor did him reverenceH7812, then was HamanH2001 fullH4390 of wrathH2534. 6And he thoughtH5869 scornH0959 to layH7971 handsH3027 on MordecaiH4782 alone; for they had shewedH5046 him the peopleH5971 of MordecaiH4782: wherefore HamanH2001 soughtH1245 to destroyH8045 all the JewsH3064 that were throughout the whole kingdomH4438 of AhasuerusH0325, even the peopleH5971 of MordecaiH4782.
7In the firstH7223 monthH2320, that is , the monthH2320 NisanH5212, in the twelfthH8147 yearH8141 of kingH4428 AhasuerusH0325, they castH5307 PurH6332, that is , the lotH1486, beforeH6440 HamanH2001 from dayH3117 to dayH3117, and from monthH2320 to monthH2320, to the twelfthH8147 month , that is , the monthH2320 AdarH0143.
8And HamanH2001 saidH0559 unto kingH4428 AhasuerusH0325, There isH3426 a certainH0259 peopleH5971 scattered abroadH6340 and dispersedH6504 among the peopleH5971 in all the provincesH4082 of thy kingdomH4438; and their lawsH1881 are diverseH8138 from all peopleH5971; neither keepH6213 they the kingsH4428 lawsH1881: therefore it is not for the kingsH4428 profitH7737 to sufferH3240 them. 9If it pleaseH2895 the kingH4428, let it be writtenH3789 that they may be destroyedH0006: and I will payH8254 tenH6235 thousandH0505 talentsH3603 of silverH3701 to the handsH3027 of those that have the chargeH6213 of the businessH4399, to bringH0935 it into the kingsH4428 treasuriesH1595. 10And the kingH4428 tookH5493 his ringH2885 from his handH3027, and gaveH5414 it unto HamanH2001 the sonH1121 of HammedathaH4099 the AgagiteH0091, the JewsH3064 enemyH6887. 11And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto HamanH2001, The silverH3701 is givenH5414 to thee, the peopleH5971 also, to doH6213 with them as it seemethH5869 goodH2896 to thee. 12Then were the kingsH4428 scribesH5608 calledH7121 on the thirteenthH7969 dayH3117 of the firstH7223 monthH2320, and there was writtenH3789 according to all that HamanH2001 had commandedH6680 unto the kingsH4428 lieutenantsH0323, and to the governorsH6346 that were over every provinceH4082, and to the rulersH8269 of every peopleH5971 of every provinceH4082 according to the writingH3791 thereof, and to every peopleH5971 after their languageH3956; in the nameH8034 of kingH4428 AhasuerusH0325 was it writtenH3789, and sealedH2856 with the kingsH4428 ringH2885. 13And the lettersH5612 were sentH7971 byH3027 postsH7323 into all the kingsH4428 provincesH4082, to destroyH8045, to killH2026, and to cause to perishH0006, all JewsH3064, both youngH5288 and oldH2205, little childrenH2945 and womenH0802, in oneH0259 dayH3117, even upon the thirteenthH7969 day of the twelfthH8147 monthH2320, which is the monthH2320 AdarH0143, and to take the spoilH7998 of them for a preyH0962. 14The copyH6572 of the writingH3791 for a commandmentH1881 to be givenH5414 in every provinceH4082 was publishedH1540 unto all peopleH5971, that they should be readyH6264 against that dayH3117. 15The postsH7323 went outH3318, being hastenedH1765 by the kingsH4428 commandmentH1697, and the decreeH1881 was givenH5414 in ShushanH7800 the palaceH1002. And the kingH4428 and HamanH2001 sat downH3427 to drinkH8354; but the cityH5892 ShushanH7800 was perplexedH0943.
Esther: Chapter 4
1When MordecaiH4782 perceivedH3045 all that was doneH6213, MordecaiH4782 rentH7167 his clothesH0899, and put onH3847 sackclothH8242 with ashesH0665, and went outH3318 into the midstH8432 of the cityH5892, and criedH2199 with a loudH1419 and a bitterH4751 cryH2201; 2And cameH0935 even beforeH6440 the kingsH4428 gateH8179: for none might enterH0935 into the kingsH4428 gateH8179 clothedH3830 with sackclothH8242. 3And in every provinceH4082, whithersoeverH4725 the kingsH4428 commandmentH1697 and his decreeH1881 cameH5060, there was greatH1419 mourningH0060 among the JewsH3064, and fastingH6685, and weepingH1065, and wailingH4553; and manyH7227 layH3331 in sackclothH8242 and ashesH0665.
4So EsthersH0635 maidsH5291 and her chamberlainsH5631 cameH0935 and toldH5046 it her. Then was the queenH4436 exceedinglyH3966 grievedH2342; and she sentH7971 raimentH0899 to clotheH3847 MordecaiH4782, and to take awayH5493 his sackclothH8242 from him: but he receivedH6901 it not.
5Then calledH7121 EstherH0635 for HatachH2047, one of the kingsH4428 chamberlainsH5631, whom he had appointedH5975 to attendH6440 upon her, and gave him a commandmentH6680 to MordecaiH4782, to knowH3045 what it was , and why it was . 6So HatachH2047 went forthH3318 to MordecaiH4782 unto the streetH7339 of the cityH5892, which was beforeH6440 the kingsH4428 gateH8179. 7And MordecaiH4782 toldH5046 him of all that had happenedH7136 unto him, and of the sumH6575 of the moneyH3701 that HamanH2001 had promisedH0559 to payH8254 to the kingsH4428 treasuriesH1595 for the JewsH3064, to destroyH0006 them. 8Also he gaveH5414 him the copyH6572 of the writingH3791 of the decreeH1881 that was givenH5414 at ShushanH7800 to destroyH8045 them, to shewH7200 it unto EstherH0635, and to declareH5046 it unto her, and to chargeH6680 her that she should go inH0935 unto the kingH4428, to make supplicationH2603 unto him, and to make requestH1245 beforeH6440 him for her peopleH5971. 9And HatachH2047 cameH0935 and toldH5046 EstherH0635 the wordsH1697 of MordecaiH4782.
10Again EstherH0635 spakeH0559 unto HatachH2047, and gave him commandmentH6680 unto MordecaiH4782; 11All the kingsH4428 servantsH5650, and the peopleH5971 of the kingsH4428 provincesH4082, do knowH3045, that whosoever, whether manH0376 or womanH0802, shall comeH0935 unto the kingH4428 into the innerH6442 courtH2691, who is not calledH7121, there is oneH0259 lawH1881 of his to put him to deathH4191, exceptH0905 such to whom the kingH4428 shall hold outH3447 the goldenH2091 sceptreH8275, that he may liveH2421: but I have not been calledH7121 to come inH0935 unto the kingH4428 these thirtyH7970 daysH3117. 12And they toldH5046 to MordecaiH4782 EsthersH0635 wordsH1697. 13Then MordecaiH4782 commandedH0559 to answerH7725 EstherH0635, ThinkH1819 not with thyselfH5315 that thou shalt escapeH4422 in the kingsH4428 houseH1004, more than all the JewsH3064. 14For if thou altogetherH2790 holdest thy peaceH2790 at this timeH6256, then shall there enlargementH7305 and deliveranceH2020 ariseH5975 to the JewsH3064 from anotherH0312 placeH4725; but thou and thy fathersH0001 houseH1004 shall be destroyedH0006: and who knowethH3045 whether thou art comeH5060 to the kingdomH4438 for such a timeH6256 as this?
15Then EstherH0635 badeH0559 them returnH7725 MordecaiH4782 this answer , 16GoH3212, gather togetherH3664 all the JewsH3064 that are presentH4672 in ShushanH7800, and fastH6684 ye for me, and neither eatH0398 nor drinkH8354 threeH7969 daysH3117, nightH3915 or dayH3117: I also and my maidensH5291 will fastH6684 likewise; and soH3651 will I goH0935 in unto the kingH4428, which is not according to the lawH1881: and if I perishH0006, I perishH0006. 17So MordecaiH4782 went his wayH5674, and didH6213 according to all that EstherH0635 had commandedH6680 him.
Esther: Chapter 5
1Now it came to pass on the thirdH7992 dayH3117, that EstherH0635 put onH3847 her royalH4438 apparel , and stoodH5975 in the innerH6442 courtH2691 of the kingsH4428 houseH1004, over againstH5227 the kingsH4428 houseH1004: and the kingH4428 satH3427 upon his royalH4438 throneH3678 in the royalH4438 houseH1004, over againstH5227 the gateH6607 of the houseH1004. 2And it was so, when the kingH4428 sawH7200 EstherH0635 the queenH4436 standingH5975 in the courtH2691, that she obtainedH5375 favourH2580 in his sightH5869: and the kingH4428 held outH3447 to EstherH0635 the goldenH2091 sceptreH8275 that was in his handH3027. So EstherH0635 drew nearH7126, and touchedH5060 the topH7218 of the sceptreH8275. 3Then saidH0559 the kingH4428 unto her, What wilt thou, queenH4436 EstherH0635? and what is thy requestH1246? it shall be even givenH5414 thee to the halfH2677 of the kingdomH4438. 4And EstherH0635 answeredH0559, If it seem goodH2895 unto the kingH4428, let the kingH4428 and HamanH2001 comeH0935 this dayH3117 unto the banquetH4960 that I have preparedH6213 for him. 5Then the kingH4428 saidH0559, Cause HamanH2001 to make hasteH4116, that he may doH6213 as EstherH0635 hath saidH1697. So the kingH4428 and HamanH2001 cameH0935 to the banquetH4960 that EstherH0635 had preparedH6213.
6And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto EstherH0635 at the banquetH4960 of wineH3196, What is thy petitionH7596? and it shall be grantedH5414 thee: and what is thy requestH1246? even to the halfH2677 of the kingdomH4438 it shall be performedH6213. 7Then answeredH6030 EstherH0635, and saidH0559, My petitionH7596 and my requestH1246 is; 8If I have foundH4672 favourH2580 in the sightH5869 of the kingH4428, and if it pleaseH2895 the kingH4428 to grantH5414 my petitionH7596, and to performH6213 my requestH1246, let the kingH4428 and HamanH2001 comeH0935 to the banquetH4960 that I shall prepareH6213 for them, and I will doH6213 to morrowH4279 as the kingH4428 hath saidH1697.
