1Now kingH4428 DavidH1732 was oldH2204 and strickenH0935 in yearsH3117; and they coveredH3680 him with clothesH0899, but he gat no heatH3179. 2Wherefore his servantsH5650 saidH0559 unto him, Let there be soughtH1245 for my lordH0113 the kingH4428 a youngH5291 virginH1330: and let her standH5975 beforeH6440 the kingH4428, and let her cherishH5532 him, and let her lieH7901 in thy bosomH2436, that my lordH0113 the kingH4428 may get heatH2552. 3So they soughtH1245 for a fairH3303 damselH5291 throughout all the coastsH1366 of IsraelH3478, and foundH4672 AbishagH0049 a ShunammiteH7767, and broughtH0935 her to the kingH4428. 4And the damselH5291 was veryH3966 fairH3303, and cherishedH5532 the kingH4428, and ministeredH8334 to him: but the kingH4428 knewH3045 her not.
5Then AdonijahH0138 the sonH1121 of HaggithH2294 exaltedH4984 himself, sayingH0559, I will be kingH4427: and he preparedH6213 him chariotsH7393 and horsemenH6571, and fiftyH2572 menH0376 to runH7323 beforeH6440 him. 6And his fatherH0001 had not displeasedH6087 him at any timeH3117 in sayingH0559, Why hast thou done soH6213? and he also was a veryH3966 goodlyH2896 man; and his mother bareH3205 him afterH0310 AbsalomH0053. 7And he conferredH1697 with JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870, and with AbiatharH0054 the priestH3548: and they followingH0310 AdonijahH0138 helpedH5826 him . 8But ZadokH6659 the priestH3548, and BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, and NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, and ShimeiH8096, and ReiH7472, and the mighty menH1368 which belonged to DavidH1732, were not with AdonijahH0138. 9And AdonijahH0138 slewH2076 sheepH6629 and oxenH1241 and fat cattleH4806 by the stoneH0068 of ZohelethH2120, which is byH0681 En-rogelH5883, and calledH7121 all his brethrenH0251 the kingsH4428 sonsH1121, and all the menH0582 of JudahH3063 the kingsH4428 servantsH5650: 10But NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, and BenaiahH1141, and the mighty menH1368, and SolomonH8010 his brotherH0251, he calledH7121 not.
11Wherefore NathanH5416 spakeH0559 unto Bath-shebaH1339 the motherH0517 of SolomonH8010, sayingH0559, Hast thou not heardH8085 that AdonijahH0138 the sonH1121 of HaggithH2294 doth reignH4427, and DavidH1732 our lordH0113 knowethH3045 it not? 12Now therefore comeH3212, let me, I pray thee, give thee counselH3289, that thou mayest saveH4422 thine own lifeH5315, and the lifeH5315 of thy sonH1121 SolomonH8010. 13GoH3212 and get thee inH0935 unto kingH4428 DavidH1732, and sayH0559 unto him, Didst not thou, my lordH0113, O kingH4428, swearH7650 unto thine handmaidH0519, sayingH0559, AssuredlyH3588 SolomonH8010 thy sonH1121 shall reignH4427 afterH0310 me, and he shall sitH3427 upon my throneH3678? why then doth AdonijahH0138 reignH4427? 14Behold, while thou yet talkestH1696 there with the kingH4428, I also will come inH0935 afterH0310 thee, and confirmH4390 thy wordsH1697.
15And Bath-shebaH1339 went inH0935 unto the kingH4428 into the chamberH2315: and the kingH4428 was veryH3966 oldH2204; and AbishagH0049 the ShunammiteH7767 ministeredH8334 unto the kingH4428. 16And Bath-shebaH1339 bowedH6915, and did obeisanceH7812 unto the kingH4428. And the kingH4428 saidH0559, What wouldest thou? 17And she saidH0559 unto him, My lordH0113, thou swarestH7650 by the LORDH3068 thy GodH0430 unto thine handmaidH0519, saying , Assuredly SolomonH8010 thy sonH1121 shall reignH4427 afterH0310 me, and he shall sitH3427 upon my throneH3678. 18And now, behold, AdonijahH0138 reignethH4427; and now, my lordH0113 the kingH4428, thou knowestH3045 it not: 19And he hath slainH2076 oxenH7794 and fat cattleH4806 and sheepH6629 in abundanceH7230, and hath calledH7121 all the sonsH1121 of the kingH4428, and AbiatharH0054 the priestH3548, and JoabH3097 the captainH8269 of the hostH6635: but SolomonH8010 thy servantH5650 hath he not calledH7121. 20And thou, my lordH0113, O kingH4428, the eyesH5869 of all IsraelH3478 are upon thee, that thou shouldest tellH5046 them who shall sitH3427 on the throneH3678 of my lordH0113 the kingH4428 afterH0310 him. 21Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lordH0113 the kingH4428 shall sleepH7901 with his fathersH0001, that I and my sonH1121 SolomonH8010 shall be counted offendersH2400.
22And, lo, while she yet talkedH1696 with the kingH4428, NathanH5416 the prophetH5030 also came inH0935. 23And they toldH5046 the kingH4428, sayingH0559, Behold NathanH5416 the prophetH5030. And when he was come inH0935 beforeH6440 the kingH4428, he bowedH7812 himself before the kingH4428 with his faceH0639 to the groundH0776. 24And NathanH5416 saidH0559, My lordH0113, O kingH4428, hast thou saidH0559, AdonijahH0138 shall reignH4427 afterH0310 me, and he shall sitH3427 upon my throneH3678? 25For he is gone downH3381 this dayH3117, and hath slainH2076 oxenH7794 and fat cattleH4806 and sheepH6629 in abundanceH7230, and hath calledH7121 all the kingsH4428 sonsH1121, and the captainsH8269 of the hostH6635, and AbiatharH0054 the priestH3548; and, behold, they eatH0398 and drinkH8354 beforeH6440 him, and sayH0559, God saveH2421 kingH4428 AdonijahH0138. 26But me, even me thy servantH5650, and ZadokH6659 the priestH3548, and BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, and thy servantH5650 SolomonH8010, hath he not calledH7121. 27Is this thingH1697 doneH1961 by my lordH0113 the kingH4428, and thou hast not shewedH3045 it unto thy servantH5650, who should sitH3427 on the throneH3678 of my lordH0113 the kingH4428 afterH0310 him?
28Then kingH4428 DavidH1732 answeredH6030 and saidH0559, CallH7121 me Bath-shebaH1339. And she cameH0935 into the kingsH4428 presenceH6440, and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 the kingH4428. 29And the kingH4428 swareH7650, and saidH0559, As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, that hath redeemedH6299 my soulH5315 out of all distressH6869, 30Even as I swareH7650 unto thee by the LORDH3068 GodH0430 of IsraelH3478, sayingH0559, Assuredly SolomonH8010 thy sonH1121 shall reignH4427 afterH0310 me, and he shall sitH3427 upon my throneH3678 in my stead; even so will I certainly doH6213 this dayH3117. 31Then Bath-shebaH1339 bowedH6915 with her faceH0639 to the earthH0776, and did reverenceH7812 to the kingH4428, and saidH0559, Let my lordH0113 kingH4428 DavidH1732 liveH2421 for everH5769.
32And kingH4428 DavidH1732 saidH0559, CallH7121 me ZadokH6659 the priestH3548, and NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, and BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077. And they cameH0935 beforeH6440 the kingH4428. 33The kingH4428 also saidH0559 unto them, TakeH3947 with you the servantsH5650 of your lordH0113, and cause SolomonH8010 my sonH1121 to rideH7392 upon mine own muleH6506, and bring him downH3381 to GihonH1521: 34And let ZadokH6659 the priestH3548 and NathanH5416 the prophetH5030 anointH4886 him there kingH4428 over IsraelH3478: and blowH8628 ye with the trumpetH7782, and sayH0559, God saveH2421 kingH4428 SolomonH8010. 35Then ye shall come upH5927 afterH0310 him, that he may comeH0935 and sitH3427 upon my throneH3678; for he shall be kingH4427 in my stead: and I have appointedH6680 him to be rulerH5057 over IsraelH3478 and over JudahH3063. 36And BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 answeredH6030 the kingH4428, and saidH0559, AmenH0543: the LORDH3068 GodH0430 of my lordH0113 the kingH4428 sayH0559 so too . 37As the LORDH3068 hath been with my lordH0113 the kingH4428, even so be he with SolomonH8010, and makeH1431 his throneH3678 greaterH1431 than the throneH3678 of my lordH0113 kingH4428 DavidH1732. 38So ZadokH6659 the priestH3548, and NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, and BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, and the CherethitesH3774, and the PelethitesH6432, went downH3381, and caused SolomonH8010 to rideH7392 upon kingH4428 DavidsH1732 muleH6506, and broughtH3212 him to GihonH1521. 39And ZadokH6659 the priestH3548 tookH3947 an hornH7161 of oilH8081 out of the tabernacleH0168, and anointedH4886 SolomonH8010. And they blewH8628 the trumpetH7782; and all the peopleH5971 saidH0559, God saveH2421 kingH4428 SolomonH8010. 40And all the peopleH5971 came upH5927 afterH0310 him, and the peopleH5971 pipedH2490 with pipesH2485, and rejoicedH8056 with greatH1419 joyH8057, so that the earthH0776 rentH1234 with the soundH6963 of them.
41And AdonijahH0138 and all the guestsH7121 that were with him heardH8085 it as they had made an endH3615 of eatingH0398. And when JoabH3097 heardH8085 the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782, he saidH0559, Wherefore is this noiseH6963 of the cityH7151 being in an uproarH1993? 42And while he yet spakeH1696, behold, JonathanH3129 the sonH1121 of AbiatharH0054 the priestH3548 cameH0935: and AdonijahH0138 saidH0559 unto him, Come inH0935; for thou art a valiantH2428 manH0376, and bringestH1319 goodH2896 tidingsH1319. 43And JonathanH3129 answeredH6030 and saidH0559 to AdonijahH0138, VerilyH0061 our lordH0113 kingH4428 DavidH1732 hath made SolomonH8010 kingH4427. 44And the kingH4428 hath sentH7971 with him ZadokH6659 the priestH3548, and NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, and BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, and the CherethitesH3774, and the PelethitesH6432, and they have caused him to rideH7392 upon the kingsH4428 muleH6506: 45And ZadokH6659 the priestH3548 and NathanH5416 the prophetH5030 have anointedH4886 him kingH4428 in GihonH1521: and they are come upH5927 from thence rejoicingH8056, so that the cityH7151 rang againH1949. This is the noiseH6963 that ye have heardH8085. 46And also SolomonH8010 sittethH3427 on the throneH3678 of the kingdomH4410. 47And moreover the kingsH4428 servantsH5650 cameH0935 to blessH1288 our lordH0113 kingH4428 DavidH1732, sayingH0559, GodH0430 make the nameH8034 of SolomonH8010 betterH3190 than thy nameH8034, and makeH1431 his throneH3678 greaterH1431 than thy throneH3678. And the kingH4428 bowedH7812 himself upon the bedH4904. 48And also thus saidH0559 the kingH4428, BlessedH1288 be the LORDH3068 GodH0430 of IsraelH3478, which hath givenH5414 one to sitH3427 on my throneH3678 this dayH3117, mine eyesH5869 even seeingH7200 it . 49And all the guestsH7121 that were with AdonijahH0138 were afraidH2729, and rose upH6965, and wentH3212 every manH0376 his wayH1870.
50And AdonijahH0138 fearedH3372 becauseH6440 of SolomonH8010, and aroseH6965, and wentH3212, and caught holdH2388 on the hornsH7161 of the altarH4196. 51And it was toldH5046 SolomonH8010, sayingH0559, Behold, AdonijahH0138 fearethH3372 kingH4428 SolomonH8010: for, lo, he hath caught holdH0270 on the hornsH7161 of the altarH4196, sayingH0559, Let kingH4428 SolomonH8010 swearH7650 unto me to dayH3117 that he will not slayH4191 his servantH5650 with the swordH2719. 52And SolomonH8010 saidH0559, If he will shew himself a worthyH2428 manH1121, there shall not an hairH8185 of him fallH5307 to the earthH0776: but if wickednessH7451 shall be foundH4672 in him, he shall dieH4191. 53So kingH4428 SolomonH8010 sentH7971, and they brought him downH3381 from the altarH4196. And he cameH0935 and bowedH7812 himself to kingH4428 SolomonH8010: and SolomonH8010 saidH0559 unto him, GoH3212 to thine houseH1004.

1Now the daysH3117 of DavidH1732 drew nighH7126 that he should dieH4191; and he chargedH6680 SolomonH8010 his sonH1121, sayingH0559, 2I goH1980 the wayH1870 of all the earthH0776: be thou strongH2388 therefore, and shew thyself a manH0376; 3And keepH8104 the chargeH4931 of the LORDH3068 thy GodH0430, to walkH3212 in his waysH1870, to keepH8104 his statutesH2708, and his commandmentsH4687, and his judgmentsH4941, and his testimoniesH5715, as it is writtenH3789 in the lawH8451 of MosesH4872, that thou mayest prosperH7919 in all that thou doestH6213, and whithersoever thou turnestH6437 thyself: 4That the LORDH3068 may continueH6965 his wordH1697 which he spakeH1696 concerning me, sayingH0559, If thy childrenH1121 take heedH8104 to their wayH1870, to walkH3212 beforeH6440 me in truthH0571 with all their heartH3824 and with all their soulH5315, there shall not failH3772 thee (saidH0559 he) a manH0376 on the throneH3678 of IsraelH3478. 5Moreover thou knowestH3045 also what JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 didH6213 to me, and what he didH6213 to the twoH8147 captainsH8269 of the hostsH6635 of IsraelH3478, unto AbnerH0074 the sonH1121 of NerH5369, and unto AmasaH6021 the sonH1121 of JetherH3500, whom he slewH2026, and shedH7760 the bloodH1818 of warH4421 in peaceH7965, and putH5414 the bloodH1818 of warH4421 upon his girdleH2290 that was about his loinsH4975, and in his shoesH5275 that were on his feetH7272. 6DoH6213 therefore according to thy wisdomH2451, and let not his hoar headH7872 go downH3381 to the graveH7585 in peaceH7965. 7But shewH6213 kindnessH2617 unto the sonsH1121 of BarzillaiH1271 the GileaditeH1569, and let them be of those that eatH0398 at thy tableH7979: for so they cameH7126 to me when I fledH1272 becauseH6440 of AbsalomH0053 thy brotherH0251. 8And, behold, thou hast with thee ShimeiH8096 the sonH1121 of GeraH1617, a BenjamiteH1145 of BahurimH0980, which cursedH7043 me with a grievousH4834 curseH7045 in the dayH3117 when I wentH3212 to MahanaimH4266: but he came downH3381 to meetH7125 me at JordanH3383, and I swareH7650 to him by the LORDH3068, sayingH0559, I will not put thee to deathH4191 with the swordH2719. 9Now therefore hold him not guiltlessH5352: for thou art a wiseH2450 manH0376, and knowestH3045 what thou oughtest to doH6213 unto him; but his hoar headH7872 bring thou downH3381 to the graveH7585 with bloodH1818. 10So DavidH1732 sleptH7901 with his fathersH0001, and was buriedH6912 in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. 11And the daysH3117 that DavidH1732 reignedH4427 over IsraelH3478 were fortyH0705 yearsH8141: sevenH7651 yearsH8141 reignedH4427 he in HebronH2275, and thirtyH7970 and threeH7969 yearsH8141 reignedH4427 he in JerusalemH3389.
12Then satH3427 SolomonH8010 upon the throneH3678 of DavidH1732 his fatherH0001; and his kingdomH4438 was establishedH3559 greatlyH3966.
13And AdonijahH0138 the sonH1121 of HaggithH2294 cameH0935 to Bath-shebaH1339 the motherH0517 of SolomonH8010. And she saidH0559, ComestH0935 thou peaceablyH7965? And he saidH0559, PeaceablyH7965. 14He saidH0559 moreover, I have somewhat to sayH1697 unto thee. And she saidH0559, Say onH1696. 15And he saidH0559, Thou knowestH3045 that the kingdomH4410 was mine, and that all IsraelH3478 setH7760 their facesH6440 on me, that I should reignH4427: howbeit the kingdomH4410 is turned aboutH5437, and is become my brothersH0251: for it was his from the LORDH3068. 16And now I askH7592 oneH0259 petitionH7596 of thee, denyH7725 meH6440 not. And she saidH0559 unto him, Say onH1696. 17And he saidH0559, SpeakH0559, I pray thee, unto SolomonH8010 the kingH4428, (for he will not sayH7725 theeH6440 nayH7725,) that he giveH5414 me AbishagH0049 the ShunammiteH7767 to wifeH0802. 18And Bath-shebaH1339 saidH0559, WellH2896; I will speakH1696 for thee unto the kingH4428.
19Bath-shebaH1339 therefore wentH0935 unto kingH4428 SolomonH8010, to speakH1696 unto him for AdonijahH0138. And the kingH4428 rose upH6965 to meetH7125 her, and bowedH7812 himself unto her, and sat downH3427 on his throneH3678, and caused a seatH3678 to be setH7760 for the kingsH4428 motherH0517; and she satH3427 on his right handH3225. 20Then she saidH0559, I desireH7592 oneH0259 smallH6996 petitionH7596 of thee; I pray thee , sayH7725 meH6440 not nayH7725. And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto her, Ask onH7592, my motherH0517: for I will not sayH7725 theeH6440 nayH7725. 21And she saidH0559, Let AbishagH0049 the ShunammiteH7767 be givenH5414 to AdonijahH0138 thy brotherH0251 to wifeH0802. 22And kingH4428 SolomonH8010 answeredH6030 and saidH0559 unto his motherH0517, And why dost thou askH7592 AbishagH0049 the ShunammiteH7767 for AdonijahH0138? askH7592 for him the kingdomH4410 also; for he is mine elderH1419 brotherH0251; even for him, and for AbiatharH0054 the priestH3548, and for JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870. 23Then kingH4428 SolomonH8010 swareH7650 by the LORDH3068, sayingH0559, GodH0430 doH6213 so to me, and more alsoH3254, if AdonijahH0138 have not spokenH1696 this wordH1697 against his own lifeH5315. 24Now therefore, as the LORDH3068 livethH2416, which hath establishedH3559 me, and setH3427 me on the throneH3678 of DavidH1732 my fatherH0001, and who hath madeH6213 me an houseH1004, as he promisedH1696, AdonijahH0138 shall be put to deathH4191 this dayH3117. 25And kingH4428 SolomonH8010 sentH7971 by the handH3027 of BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077; and he fellH6293 upon him that he diedH4191.
26And unto AbiatharH0054 the priestH3548 saidH0559 the kingH4428, GetH3212 thee to AnathothH6068, unto thine own fieldsH7704; for thou art worthyH0376 of deathH4194: but I will not at this timeH3117 put thee to deathH4191, because thou barestH5375 the arkH0727 of the LordH0136 GODH3069 beforeH6440 DavidH1732 my fatherH0001, and because thou hast been afflictedH6031 in all wherein my fatherH0001 was afflictedH6031. 27So SolomonH8010 thrust outH1644 AbiatharH0054 from being priestH3548 unto the LORDH3068; that he might fulfilH4390 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, which he spakeH1696 concerning the houseH1004 of EliH5941 in ShilohH7887.
28Then tidingsH8052 cameH0935 to JoabH3097: for JoabH3097 had turnedH5186 afterH0310 AdonijahH0138, though he turnedH5186 not afterH0310 AbsalomH0053. And JoabH3097 fledH5127 unto the tabernacleH0168 of the LORDH3068, and caught holdH2388 on the hornsH7161 of the altarH4196. 29And it was toldH5046 kingH4428 SolomonH8010 that JoabH3097 was fledH5127 unto the tabernacleH0168 of the LORDH3068; and, behold, he is byH0681 the altarH4196. Then SolomonH8010 sentH7971 BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, sayingH0559, GoH3212, fallH6293 upon him. 30And BenaiahH1141 cameH0935 to the tabernacleH0168 of the LORDH3068, and saidH0559 unto him, Thus saithH0559 the kingH4428, Come forthH3318. And he saidH0559, Nay; but I will dieH4191 here. And BenaiahH1141 broughtH7725 the kingH4428 wordH1697 againH7725, sayingH0559, Thus saidH1696 JoabH3097, and thus he answeredH6030 me. 31And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto him, DoH6213 as he hath saidH1696, and fallH6293 upon him, and buryH6912 him; that thou mayest take awayH5493 the innocentH2600 bloodH1818, which JoabH3097 shedH8210, from me, and from the houseH1004 of my fatherH0001. 32And the LORDH3068 shall returnH7725 his bloodH1818 upon his own headH7218, who fellH6293 upon twoH8147 menH0582 more righteousH6662 and betterH2896 than he, and slewH2026 them with the swordH2719, my fatherH0001 DavidH1732 not knowingH3045 thereof, to wit , AbnerH0074 the sonH1121 of NerH5369, captainH8269 of the hostH6635 of IsraelH3478, and AmasaH6021 the sonH1121 of JetherH3500, captainH8269 of the hostH6635 of JudahH3063. 33Their bloodH1818 shall therefore returnH7725 upon the headH7218 of JoabH3097, and upon the headH7218 of his seedH2233 for everH5769: but upon DavidH1732, and upon his seedH2233, and upon his houseH1004, and upon his throneH3678, shall there be peaceH7965 forH5704 everH5769 from the LORDH3068. 34So BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 went upH5927, and fellH6293 upon him, and slewH4191 him: and he was buriedH6912 in his own houseH1004 in the wildernessH4057.
35And the kingH4428 putH5414 BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 in his room over the hostH6635: and ZadokH6659 the priestH3548 did the kingH4428 putH5414 in the room of AbiatharH0054.
36And the kingH4428 sentH7971 and calledH7121 for ShimeiH8096, and saidH0559 unto him, BuildH1129 thee an houseH1004 in JerusalemH3389, and dwellH3427 there, and go not forthH3318 thence any whitherH0575. 37For it shall be, that on the dayH3117 thou goest outH3318, and passest overH5674 the brookH5158 KidronH6939, thou shalt knowH3045 for certainH3045 that thou shalt surelyH4191 dieH4191: thy bloodH1818 shall be upon thine own headH7218. 38And ShimeiH8096 saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, The sayingH1697 is goodH2896: as my lordH0113 the kingH4428 hath saidH1696, so will thy servantH5650 doH6213. And ShimeiH8096 dweltH3427 in JerusalemH3389 manyH7227 daysH3117. 39And it came to pass at the endH7093 of threeH7969 yearsH8141, that twoH8147 of the servantsH5650 of ShimeiH8096 ran awayH1272 unto AchishH0397 sonH1121 of MaachahH4601 kingH4428 of GathH1661.
