2 Samuel: Chapter 1

1Now it came to pass afterH0310 the deathH4194 of SaulH7586, when DavidH1732 was returnedH7725 from the slaughterH5221 of the AmalekitesH6002, and DavidH1732 had abodeH3427 twoH8147 daysH3117 in ZiklagH6860; 2It came even to pass on the thirdH7992 dayH3117, that, behold, a manH0376 cameH0935 out of the campH4264 from SaulH7586 with his clothesH0899 rentH7167, and earthH0127 upon his headH7218: and so it was, when he cameH0935 to DavidH1732, that he fellH5307 to the earthH0776, and did obeisanceH7812. 3And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto him, From whence comestH0935 thou? And he saidH0559 unto him, Out of the campH4264 of IsraelH3478 am I escapedH4422. 4And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto him, HowH4100 went the matterH1697? I pray thee, tellH5046 me. And he answeredH0559, That the peopleH5971 are fledH5127 from the battleH4421, and manyH7235 of the peopleH5971 also are fallenH5307 and deadH4191; and SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 his sonH1121 are deadH4191 also. 5And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto the young manH5288 that toldH5046 him, How knowestH3045 thou that SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 his sonH1121 be deadH4191? 6And the young manH5288 that toldH5046 him saidH0559, As I happenedH7136 by chanceH7122 upon mountH2022 GilboaH1533, behold, SaulH7586 leanedH8172 upon his spearH2595; and, lo, the chariotsH7393 and horsemenH1167 followed hardH1692 after him. 7And when he lookedH6437 behindH0310 him, he sawH7200 me, and calledH7121 unto me. And I answeredH0559, Here am I. 8And he saidH0559 unto me, Who art thou? And I answeredH0559 him, I am an AmalekiteH6003. 9He saidH0559 unto me again, StandH5975, I pray thee, upon me, and slayH4191 me: for anguishH7661 is comeH0270 upon me, because my lifeH5315 is yet whole in me. 10So I stoodH5975 upon him, and slewH4191 him, because I was sureH3045 that he could not liveH2421 afterH0310 that he was fallenH5307: and I tookH3947 the crownH5145 that was upon his headH7218, and the braceletH0685 that was on his armH2220, and have broughtH0935 them hither unto my lordH0113.

11Then DavidH1732 took holdH2388 on his clothesH0899, and rentH7167 them; and likewise all the menH0582 that were with him: 12And they mournedH5594, and weptH1058, and fastedH6684 until evenH6153, for SaulH7586, and for JonathanH3083 his sonH1121, and for the peopleH5971 of the LORDH3068, and for the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478; because they were fallenH5307 by the swordH2719.

13And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto the young manH5288 that toldH5046 him, Whence art thou? And he answeredH0559, I am the sonH1121 of a strangerH0376, an AmalekiteH6003. 14And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto him, How wast thou not afraidH3372 to stretch forthH7971 thine handH3027 to destroyH7843 the LORDsH3068 anointedH4899? 15And DavidH1732 calledH7121 oneH0259 of the young menH5288, and saidH0559, Go nearH5066, and fallH6293 upon him. And he smoteH5221 him that he diedH4191. 16And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto him, Thy bloodH1818 be upon thy headH7218; for thy mouthH6310 hath testifiedH6030 against thee, sayingH0559, I have slainH4191 the LORDsH3068 anointedH4899.

17And DavidH1732 lamentedH6969 with this lamentationH7015 over SaulH7586 and over JonathanH3083 his sonH1121: 18(Also he badeH0559 them teachH3925 the childrenH1121 of JudahH3063 the use of the bowH7198: behold, it is writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of JasherH3477.) 19The beautyH6643 of IsraelH3478 is slainH2491 upon thy high placesH1116: how are the mightyH1368 fallenH5307! 20TellH5046 it not in GathH1661, publishH1319 it not in the streetsH2351 of AskelonH0831; lest the daughtersH1323 of the PhilistinesH6430 rejoiceH8055, lest the daughtersH1323 of the uncircumcisedH6189 triumphH5937. 21Ye mountainsH2022 of GilboaH1533, let there be no dewH2919, neither let there be rainH4306, upon you, nor fieldsH7704 of offeringsH8641: for there the shieldH4043 of the mightyH1368 is vilely cast awayH1602, the shieldH4043 of SaulH7586, as though he had not been anointedH4899 with oilH8081. 22From the bloodH1818 of the slainH2491, from the fatH2459 of the mightyH1368, the bowH7198 of JonathanH3083 turnedH7734 not backH0268, and the swordH2719 of SaulH7586 returnedH7725 not emptyH7387. 23 SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 were lovelyH0157 and pleasantH5273 in their livesH2416, and in their deathH4194 they were not dividedH6504: they were swifterH7043 than eaglesH5404, they were strongerH1396 than lionsH0738. 24Ye daughtersH1323 of IsraelH3478, weep overH1058 SaulH7586, who clothedH3847 you in scarletH8144, with other delightsH5730, who putH5927 on ornamentsH5716 of goldH2091 upon your apparelH3830. 25How are the mightyH1368 fallenH5307 in the midstH8432 of the battleH4421! O JonathanH3083, thou wast slainH2491 in thine high placesH1116. 26I am distressedH6887 for thee, my brotherH0251 JonathanH3083: veryH3966 pleasantH5276 hast thou been unto me: thy loveH0160 to me was wonderfulH6381, passing the loveH0160 of womenH0802. 27How are the mightyH1368 fallenH5307, and the weaponsH3627 of warH4421 perishedH0006!

2 Samuel: Chapter 2

1And it came to pass after thisH0310, that DavidH1732 enquiredH7592 of the LORDH3068, sayingH0559, Shall I go upH5927 into anyH0259 of the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063? And the LORDH3068 saidH0559 unto him, Go upH5927. And DavidH1732 saidH0559, Whither shall I go upH5927? And he saidH0559, Unto HebronH2275. 2So DavidH1732 went upH5927 thither, and his twoH8147 wivesH0802 also, AhinoamH0293 the JezreelitessH3159, and AbigailH0026 NabalsH5037 wifeH0802 the CarmeliteH3761. 3And his menH0582 that were with him did DavidH1732 bring upH5927, every manH0376 with his householdH1004: and they dweltH3427 in the citiesH5892 of HebronH2275. 4And the menH0582 of JudahH3063 cameH0935, and there they anointedH4886 DavidH1732 kingH4428 over the houseH1004 of JudahH3063. And they toldH5046 DavidH1732, sayingH0559, That the menH0582 of Jabesh-gileadH3003 were they that buriedH6912 SaulH7586.

5And DavidH1732 sentH7971 messengersH4397 unto the menH0582 of Jabesh-gileadH3003, and saidH0559 unto them, BlessedH1288 be ye of the LORDH3068, that ye have shewedH6213 this kindnessH2617 unto your lordH0113, even unto SaulH7586, and have buriedH6912 him. 6And now the LORDH3068 shewH6213 kindnessH2617 and truthH0571 unto you: and I also will requiteH6213 you this kindnessH2896, because ye have doneH6213 this thingH1697. 7Therefore now let your handsH3027 be strengthenedH2388, and be ye valiantH1121: for your masterH0113 SaulH7586 is deadH4191, and also the houseH1004 of JudahH3063 have anointedH4886 me kingH4428 over them.

8But AbnerH0074 the sonH1121 of NerH5369, captainH8269 of SaulsH7586 hostH6635, tookH3947 Ish-boshethH0378 the sonH1121 of SaulH7586, and brought him overH5674 to MahanaimH4266; 9And made him kingH4427 over GileadH1568, and over the AshuritesH0805, and over JezreelH3157, and over EphraimH0669, and over BenjaminH1144, and over all IsraelH3478. 10Ish-boshethH0378 SaulsH7586 sonH1121 was fortyH0705 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he began to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478, and reignedH4427 twoH8147 yearsH8141. But the houseH1004 of JudahH3063 followedH0310 DavidH1732. 11And the timeH4557 that DavidH1732 was kingH4428 in HebronH2275 over the houseH1004 of JudahH3063 was sevenH7651 yearsH8141 and sixH8337 monthsH2320.

12And AbnerH0074 the sonH1121 of NerH5369, and the servantsH5650 of Ish-boshethH0378 the sonH1121 of SaulH7586, went outH3318 from MahanaimH4266 to GibeonH1391. 13And JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870, and the servantsH5650 of DavidH1732, went outH3318, and metH6298 togetherH3162 by the poolH1295 of GibeonH1391: and they sat downH3427, the one on the one side of the poolH1295, and the other on the other side of the poolH1295. 14And AbnerH0074 saidH0559 to JoabH3097, Let the young menH5288 now ariseH6965, and playH7832 beforeH6440 us. And JoabH3097 saidH0559, Let them ariseH6965. 15Then there aroseH6965 and went overH5674 by numberH4557 twelveH8147 of BenjaminH1144, which pertained to Ish-boshethH0378 the sonH1121 of SaulH7586, and twelveH8147 of the servantsH5650 of DavidH1732. 16And they caughtH2388 every oneH0376 his fellowH7453 by the headH7218, and thrust his swordH2719 in his fellowsH7453 sideH6654; so they fell downH5307 togetherH3162: wherefore that placeH4725 was calledH7121 Helkath-hazzurimH2521, which is in GibeonH1391. 17And there was a veryH3966 soreH7186 battleH4421 that dayH3117; and AbnerH0074 was beatenH5062, and the menH0582 of IsraelH3478, beforeH6440 the servantsH5650 of DavidH1732.

18And there were threeH7969 sonsH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 there, JoabH3097, and AbishaiH0052, and AsahelH6214: and AsahelH6214 was as lightH7031 of footH7272 as aH0259 wildH7704 roeH6643. 19And AsahelH6214 pursuedH7291 afterH0310 AbnerH0074; and in goingH3212 he turnedH5186 not to the right handH3225 nor to the leftH8040 from followingH0310 AbnerH0074. 20Then AbnerH0074 lookedH6437 behindH0310 him, and saidH0559, Art thou AsahelH6214? And he answeredH0559, I am . 21And AbnerH0074 saidH0559 to him, Turn thee asideH5186 to thy right handH3225 or to thy leftH8040, and lay thee holdH0270 on oneH0259 of the young menH5288, and takeH3947 thee his armourH2488. But AsahelH6214 wouldH0014 not turn asideH5493 from followingH0310 of him. 22And AbnerH0074 saidH0559 againH3254 to AsahelH6214, Turn thee asideH5493 from followingH0310 me: wherefore should I smiteH5221 thee to the groundH0776? how then should I hold upH5375 my faceH6440 to JoabH3097 thy brotherH0251? 23Howbeit he refusedH3985 to turn asideH5493: wherefore AbnerH0074 with the hinder endH0310 of the spearH2595 smoteH5221 him underH0413 the fifthH2570 rib , that the spearH2595 came outH3318 behindH0310 him; and he fell downH5307 there, and diedH4191 in the same placeH8478: and it came to pass, that as many as cameH0935 to the placeH4725 where AsahelH6214 fell downH5307 and diedH4191 stood stillH5975. 24 JoabH3097 also and AbishaiH0052 pursuedH7291 afterH0310 AbnerH0074: and the sunH8121 went downH0935 when they were comeH0935 to the hillH1389 of AmmahH0522, that lieth beforeH6440 GiahH1520 by the wayH1870 of the wildernessH4057 of GibeonH1391.

25And the childrenH1121 of BenjaminH1144 gathered themselves togetherH6908 afterH0310 AbnerH0074, and became oneH0259 troopH0092, and stoodH5975 on the topH7218 of an hillH1389. 26Then AbnerH0074 calledH7121 to JoabH3097, and saidH0559, Shall the swordH2719 devourH0398 for everH5331? knowestH3045 thou not that it will be bitternessH4751 in the latter endH0314? how long shall it be then, ere thou bidH0559 the peopleH5971 returnH7725 from followingH0310 their brethrenH0251? 27And JoabH3097 saidH0559, As GodH0430 livethH2416, unlessH3884 thou hadst spokenH1696, surely then in the morningH1242 the peopleH5971 had gone upH5927 every oneH0376 from followingH0310 his brotherH0251. 28So JoabH3097 blewH8628 a trumpetH7782, and all the peopleH5971 stood stillH5975, and pursuedH7291 afterH0310 IsraelH3478 no more, neither foughtH3898 they any moreH3254. 29And AbnerH0074 and his menH0582 walkedH1980 all that nightH3915 through the plainH6160, and passed overH5674 JordanH3383, and went throughH3212 all BithronH1338, and they cameH0935 to MahanaimH4266. 30And JoabH3097 returnedH7725 from followingH0310 AbnerH0074: and when he had gatheredH6908 all the peopleH5971 togetherH6908, there lackedH6485 of DavidsH1732 servantsH5650 nineteenH8672 menH0376 and AsahelH6214. 31But the servantsH5650 of DavidH1732 had smittenH5221 of BenjaminH1144, and of AbnersH0074 menH0582, so that threeH7969 hundredH3967 and threescoreH8346 menH0376 diedH4191.

32And they took upH5375 AsahelH6214, and buriedH6912 him in the sepulchreH6913 of his fatherH0001, which was in Beth-lehemH1035. And JoabH3097 and his menH0582 wentH3212 all nightH3915, and they came to HebronH2275 at break of dayH0215.

2 Samuel: Chapter 3

1Now there was longH0752 warH4421 between the houseH1004 of SaulH7586 and the houseH1004 of DavidH1732: but DavidH1732 waxedH1980 strongerH2390 and strongerH2390, and the houseH1004 of SaulH7586 waxedH1980 weakerH1800 and weakerH1800.

2And unto DavidH1732 were sonsH1121 bornH3205 in HebronH2275: and his firstbornH1060 was AmnonH0550, of AhinoamH0293 the JezreelitessH3159; 3And his secondH4932, ChileabH3609, of AbigailH0026 the wifeH0802 of NabalH5037 the CarmeliteH3761; and the thirdH7992, AbsalomH0053 the sonH1121 of MaacahH4601 the daughterH1323 of TalmaiH8526 kingH4428 of GeshurH1650; 4And the fourthH7243, AdonijahH0138 the sonH1121 of HaggithH2294; and the fifthH2549, ShephatiahH8203 the sonH1121 of AbitalH0037; 5And the sixthH8345, IthreamH3507, by EglahH5698 DavidsH1732 wifeH0802. These were bornH3205 to DavidH1732 in HebronH2275.

6And it came to pass, while there was warH4421 between the houseH1004 of SaulH7586 and the houseH1004 of DavidH1732, that AbnerH0074 made himself strongH2388 for the houseH1004 of SaulH7586.

7And SaulH7586 had a concubineH6370, whose nameH8034 was RizpahH7532, the daughterH1323 of AiahH0345: and Ish-bosheth saidH0559 to AbnerH0074, Wherefore hast thou gone inH0935 unto my fathersH0001 concubineH6370? 8Then was AbnerH0074 veryH3966 wrothH2734 for the wordsH1697 of Ish-boshethH0378, and saidH0559, Am I a dogsH3611 headH7218, which against JudahH3063 do shewH6213 kindnessH2617 this dayH3117 unto the houseH1004 of SaulH7586 thy fatherH0001, to his brethrenH0251, and to his friendsH4828, and have not deliveredH4672 thee into the handH3027 of DavidH1732, that thou chargestH6485 me to dayH3117 with a faultH5771 concerning this womanH0802? 9So doH6213 GodH0430 to AbnerH0074, and more alsoH3254, except, as the LORDH3068 hath swornH7650 to DavidH1732, even so I doH6213 to him; 10To translateH5674 the kingdomH4467 from the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, and to set upH6965 the throneH3678 of DavidH1732 over IsraelH3478 and over JudahH3063, from DanH1835 even to Beer-shebaH0884. 11And he couldH3201 not answerH7725 AbnerH0074 a wordH1697 again, because he fearedH3372 him.

12And AbnerH0074 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to DavidH1732 on his behalf, sayingH0559, Whose is the landH0776? sayingH0559 also , MakeH3772 thy leagueH1285 with me, and, behold, my handH3027 shall be with thee, to bring aboutH5437 all IsraelH3478 unto thee.

13And he saidH0559, WellH2896; I will makeH3772 a leagueH1285 with thee: but oneH0259 thingH1697 I requireH7592 of thee, that isH0559, Thou shalt not seeH7200 my faceH6440, except thou firstH6440 bringH0935 MichalH4324 SaulsH7586 daughterH1323, when thou comestH0935 to seeH7200 my faceH6440. 14And DavidH1732 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to Ish-boshethH0378 SaulsH7586 sonH1121, sayingH0559, DeliverH5414 me my wifeH0802 MichalH4324, which I espousedH0781 to me for an hundredH3967 foreskinsH6190 of the PhilistinesH6430. 15And Ish-boshethH0378 sentH7971, and tookH3947 her from her husbandH0376, even from PhaltielH6409 the sonH1121 of LaishH3889. 16And her husbandH0376 wentH3212 with her along weepingH1980 behindH0310 her to BahurimH0980. Then saidH0559 AbnerH0074 unto him, GoH3212, returnH7725. And he returnedH7725.

17And AbnerH0074 had communicationH1961 with the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478, sayingH0559, Ye soughtH1245 for DavidH1732 in timesH8543 pastH8032 to be kingH4428 over you: 18Now then doH6213 it: for the LORDH3068 hath spokenH0559 of DavidH1732, sayingH0559, By the handH3027 of my servantH5650 DavidH1732 I will saveH3467 my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430, and out of the handH3027 of all their enemiesH0341. 19And AbnerH0074 also spakeH1696 in the earsH0241 of BenjaminH1144: and AbnerH0074 wentH3212 also to speakH1696 in the earsH0241 of DavidH1732 in HebronH2275 all that seemedH5869 goodH2896 to IsraelH3478, and that seemed goodH5869 to the whole houseH1004 of BenjaminH1144. 20So AbnerH0074 cameH0935 to DavidH1732 to HebronH2275, and twentyH6242 menH0582 with him. And DavidH1732 madeH6213 AbnerH0074 and the menH0582 that were with him a feastH4960. 21And AbnerH0074 saidH0559 unto DavidH1732, I will ariseH6965 and goH3212, and will gatherH6908 all IsraelH3478 unto my lordH0113 the kingH4428, that they may makeH3772 a leagueH1285 with thee, and that thou mayest reignH4427 over all that thine heartH5315 desirethH0183. And DavidH1732 sentH7971 AbnerH0074 awayH7971; and he wentH3212 in peaceH7965.

22And, behold, the servantsH5650 of DavidH1732 and JoabH3097 cameH0935 from pursuing a troopH1416, and brought inH0935 a greatH7227 spoilH7998 with them: but AbnerH0074 was not with DavidH1732 in HebronH2275; for he had sent him awayH7971, and he was goneH3212 in peaceH7965. 23When JoabH3097 and all the hostH6635 that was with him were comeH0935, they toldH5046 JoabH3097, sayingH0559, AbnerH0074 the sonH1121 of NerH5369 cameH0935 to the kingH4428, and he hath sent him awayH7971, and he is goneH3212 in peaceH7965. 24Then JoabH3097 cameH0935 to the kingH4428, and saidH0559, What hast thou doneH6213? behold, AbnerH0074 cameH0935 unto thee; why is it that thou hast sent him awayH7971, and he is quiteH1980 goneH3212? 25Thou knowestH3045 AbnerH0074 the sonH1121 of NerH5369, that he cameH0935 to deceiveH6601 thee, and to knowH3045 thy going outH4161 and thy coming inH4126, and to knowH3045 all that thou doestH6213. 26And when JoabH3097 was come outH3318 from DavidH1732, he sentH7971 messengersH4397 afterH0310 AbnerH0074, which brought him againH7725 from the wellH0953 of SirahH5626: but DavidH1732 knewH3045 it not. 27And when AbnerH0074 was returnedH7725 to HebronH2275, JoabH3097 took him asideH5186 inH0413 the gateH8179 to speakH1696 with him quietlyH7987, and smoteH5221 him there under the fifthH2570 rib , that he diedH4191, for the bloodH1818 of AsahelH6214 his brotherH0251.

28And afterwardH0310 when DavidH1732 heardH8085 it , he saidH0559, I and my kingdomH4467 are guiltlessH5355 before the LORDH3068 forH5704 everH5769 from the bloodH1818 of AbnerH0074 the sonH1121 of NerH5369: 29Let it restH2342 on the headH7218 of JoabH3097, and on all his fathersH0001 houseH1004; and let there not failH3772 from the houseH1004 of JoabH3097 one that hath an issueH2100, or that is a leperH6879, or that leanethH2388 on a staffH6418, or that fallethH5307 on the swordH2719, or that lackethH2638 breadH3899. 30So JoabH3097 and AbishaiH0052 his brotherH0251 slewH2026 AbnerH0074, because he had slainH4191 their brotherH0251 AsahelH6214 at GibeonH1391 in the battleH4421.

31And DavidH1732 saidH0559 to JoabH3097, and to all the peopleH5971 that were with him, RendH7167 your clothesH0899, and girdH2296 you with sackclothH8242, and mournH5594 beforeH6440 AbnerH0074. And kingH4428 DavidH1732 himself followedH1980 the bierH4296. 32And they buriedH6912 AbnerH0074 in HebronH2275: and the kingH4428 lifted upH5375 his voiceH6963, and weptH1058 at the graveH6913 of AbnerH0074; and all the peopleH5971 weptH1058. 33And the kingH4428 lamentedH6969 over AbnerH0074, and saidH0559, DiedH4191 AbnerH0074 as a foolH5036 diethH4194? 34Thy handsH3027 were not boundH0631, nor thy feetH7272 putH5066 into fettersH5178: as a man fallethH5307 beforeH6440 wickedH5766 menH1121, so fellestH5307 thou. And all the peopleH5971 weptH1058 againH3254 over him. 35And when allH3605 the peopleH5971 cameH0935 to causeH1262 DavidH1732 to eatH1262 meatH3899 while it was yetH5750 dayH3117, DavidH1732 swareH7650, sayingH0559, So doH6213 GodH0430 to me, and more alsoH3254, if I tasteH2938 breadH3899, or oughtH3972 else, tillH6440 the sunH8121 be downH0935. 36And all the peopleH5971 took noticeH5234 of it , and it pleasedH3190 them: as whatsoever the kingH4428 didH6213 pleasedH5869 all the peopleH5971. 37For all the peopleH5971 and all IsraelH3478 understoodH3045 that dayH3117 that it was not of the kingH4428 to slayH4191 AbnerH0074 the sonH1121 of NerH5369. 38And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto his servantsH5650, KnowH3045 ye not that there is a princeH8269 and a great manH1419 fallenH5307 this dayH3117 in IsraelH3478? 39And I am this dayH3117 weakH7390, though anointedH4886 kingH4428; and these menH0582 the sonsH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 be too hardH7186 for me: the LORDH3068 shall rewardH7999 the doer of evilH6213 according to his wickednessH7451.

2 Samuel: Chapter 4

1And when SaulsH7586 sonH1121 heardH8085 that AbnerH0074 was deadH4191 in HebronH2275, his handsH3027 were feebleH7503, and all the IsraelitesH3478 were troubledH0926. 2And SaulsH7586 sonH1121 hadH1961 twoH8147 menH0582 that were captainsH8269 of bandsH1416: the nameH8034 of the oneH0259 was BaanahH1196, and the nameH8034 of the otherH8145 RechabH7394, the sonsH1121 of RimmonH7417 a BeerothiteH0886, of the childrenH1121 of BenjaminH1144: (for BeerothH0881 also was reckonedH2803 to BenjaminH1144: 3And the BeerothitesH0886 fledH1272 to GittaimH1664, and were sojournersH1481 there until this dayH3117.) 4And JonathanH3083, SaulsH7586 sonH1121, had a sonH1121 that was lameH5223 of his feetH7272. He was fiveH2568 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when the tidingsH8052 cameH0935 of SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 out of JezreelH3157, and his nurseH0539 took him upH5375, and fledH5127: and it came to pass, as she made hasteH2648 to fleeH5127, that he fellH5307, and became lameH6452. And his nameH8034 was MephiboshethH4648. 5And the sonsH1121 of RimmonH7417 the BeerothiteH0886, RechabH7394 and BaanahH1196, wentH3212, and cameH0935 about the heatH2527 of the dayH3117 to the houseH1004 of Ish-boshethH0378, who layH7901 on a bedH4904 at noonH6672. 6And they came thitherH0935 into the midstH8432 of the houseH1004, as though they would have fetchedH3947 wheatH2406; and they smoteH5221 him under the fifthH2570 rib: and RechabH7394 and BaanahH1196 his brotherH0251 escapedH4422. 7For when they cameH0935 into the houseH1004, he layH7901 on his bedH4296 in his bedchamberH2315, and they smoteH5221 him, and slewH4191 him, and beheadedH5493 him, and tookH3947 his headH7218, and gat them awayH3212 throughH1870 the plainH6160 all nightH3915. 8And they broughtH0935 the headH7218 of Ish-boshethH0378 unto DavidH1732 to HebronH2275, and saidH0559 to the kingH4428, Behold the headH7218 of Ish-boshethH0378 the sonH1121 of SaulH7586 thine enemyH0341, which soughtH1245 thy lifeH5315; and the LORDH3068 hathH5414 avengedH5360 my lordH0113 the kingH4428 this dayH3117 of SaulH7586, and of his seedH2233.

9And DavidH1732 answeredH6030 RechabH7394 and BaanahH1196 his brotherH0251, the sonsH1121 of RimmonH7417 the BeerothiteH0886, and saidH0559 unto them, As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, who hath redeemedH6299 my soulH5315 out of all adversityH6869, 10When one toldH5046 me, sayingH0559, Behold, SaulH7586 is deadH4191, thinking to have broughtH5869 good tidingsH1319, I took holdH0270 of him, and slewH2026 him in ZiklagH6860, who thought that I would have givenH5414 him a reward for his tidingsH1309: 11How much more, when wickedH7563 menH0582 have slainH2026 a righteousH6662 personH0376 in his own houseH1004 upon his bedH4904? shall I not therefore now requireH1245 his bloodH1818 of your handH3027, and take you awayH1197 from the earthH0776? 12And DavidH1732 commandedH6680 his young menH5288, and they slewH2026 them, and cut offH7112 their handsH3027 and their feetH7272, and hanged them upH8518 over the poolH1295 in HebronH2275. But they tookH3947 the headH7218 of Ish-boshethH0378, and buriedH6912 it in the sepulchreH6913 of AbnerH0074 in HebronH2275.

2 Samuel: Chapter 5

1Then cameH0935 all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478 to DavidH1732 unto HebronH2275, and spakeH0559, sayingH0559, Behold, we are thy boneH6106 and thy fleshH1320. 2Also in time pastH0865, when SaulH7586 was kingH4428 over us, thou wast he that leddest outH3318 and broughtest inH0935 IsraelH3478: and the LORDH3068 saidH0559 to thee, Thou shalt feedH7462 my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and thou shalt be a captainH5057 over IsraelH3478. 3So all the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 cameH0935 to the kingH4428 to HebronH2275; and kingH4428 DavidH1732 madeH3772 a leagueH1285 with them in HebronH2275 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068: and they anointedH4886 DavidH1732 kingH4428 over IsraelH3478.

4 DavidH1732 was thirtyH7970 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he began to reignH4427, and he reignedH4427 fortyH0705 yearsH8141. 5In HebronH2275 he reignedH4427 over JudahH3063 sevenH7651 yearsH8141 and sixH8337 monthsH2320: and in JerusalemH3389 he reignedH4427 thirtyH7970 and threeH7969 yearsH8141 over all IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063.

6And the kingH4428 and his menH0582 wentH3212 to JerusalemH3389 unto the JebusitesH2983, the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH0776: which spakeH0559 unto DavidH1732, sayingH0559, Except thou take awayH5493 the blindH5787 and the lameH6455, thou shalt not come inH0935 hither: thinkingH0559, DavidH1732 cannot come inH0935 hither. 7Nevertheless DavidH1732 tookH3920 the strong holdH4686 of ZionH6726: the same is the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. 8And DavidH1732 saidH0559 on that dayH3117, Whosoever getteth upH5060 to the gutterH6794, and smitethH5221 the JebusitesH2983, and the lameH6455 and the blindH5787, that are hatedH8130 of DavidsH1732 soulH5315, he shall be chief and captain . Wherefore they saidH0559, The blindH5787 and the lameH6455 shall not comeH0935 into the houseH1004. 9So DavidH1732 dweltH3427 in the fortH4686, and calledH7121 it the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. And DavidH1732 builtH1129 round aboutH5439 from MilloH4407 and inwardH1004. 10And DavidH1732 wentH3212 onH1980, and grew greatH1419, and the LORDH3068 GodH0430 of hostsH6635 was with him.

11And HiramH2438 kingH4428 of TyreH6865 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to DavidH1732, and cedarH0730 treesH6086, and carpentersH2796, and masonsH7023: and they builtH1129 DavidH1732 an houseH1004. 12And DavidH1732 perceivedH3045 that the LORDH3068 had establishedH3559 him kingH4428 over IsraelH3478, and that he had exaltedH5375 his kingdomH4467 for his peopleH5971 IsraelsH3478 sake.

13And DavidH1732 tookH3947 him more concubinesH6370 and wivesH0802 out of JerusalemH3389, afterH0310 he was comeH0935 from HebronH2275: and there were yet sonsH1121 and daughtersH1323 bornH3205 to DavidH1732. 14And these be the namesH8034 of those that were bornH3209 unto him in JerusalemH3389; ShammuaH8051, and ShobabH7727, and NathanH5416, and SolomonH8010, 15 IbharH2984 also, and ElishuaH0474, and NephegH5298, and JaphiaH3309, 16And ElishamaH0476, and EliadaH0450, and EliphaletH0467.

17But when the PhilistinesH6430 heardH8085 that they had anointedH4886 DavidH1732 kingH4428 over IsraelH3478, all the PhilistinesH6430 came upH5927 to seekH1245 DavidH1732; and DavidH1732 heardH8085 of it , and went downH3381 to the holdH4686. 18The PhilistinesH6430 also cameH0935 and spreadH5203 themselves in the valleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. 19And DavidH1732 enquiredH7592 of the LORDH3068, sayingH0559, Shall I go upH5927 to the PhilistinesH6430? wilt thou deliverH5414 them into mine handH3027? And the LORDH3068 saidH0559 unto DavidH1732, Go upH5927: for I will doubtlessH5414 deliverH5414 the PhilistinesH6430 into thine handH3027. 20And DavidH1732 cameH0935 to Baal-perazimH1188, and DavidH1732 smoteH5221 them there, and saidH0559, The LORDH3068 hath broken forthH6555 upon mine enemiesH0341 beforeH6440 me, as the breachH6556 of watersH4325. Therefore he calledH7121 the nameH8034 of that placeH4725 Baal-perazimH1188. 21And there they leftH5800 their imagesH6091, and DavidH1732 and his menH0582 burnedH5375 them.

22And the PhilistinesH6430 came upH5927 yet againH3254, and spreadH5203 themselves in the valleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. 23And when DavidH1732 enquiredH7592 of the LORDH3068, he saidH0559, Thou shalt not go upH5927; but fetch a compassH5437 behindH0310 them, and comeH0935 upon them over againstH4136 the mulberry treesH1057. 24And let it be, when thou hearestH8085 the soundH6963 of a goingH6807 in the topsH7218 of the mulberry treesH1057, that then thou shalt bestirH2782 thyself: for then shall the LORDH3068 go outH3318 beforeH6440 thee, to smiteH5221 the hostH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430. 25And DavidH1732 did soH6213, as the LORDH3068 had commandedH6680 him; and smoteH5221 the PhilistinesH6430 from GebaH1387 until thou comeH0935 to GazerH1507.

2 Samuel: Chapter 6

1Again, DavidH1732 gathered togetherH0622 all the chosenH0977 men of IsraelH3478, thirtyH7970 thousandH0505. 2And DavidH1732 aroseH6965, and wentH3212 with all the peopleH5971 that were with him from Baale of JudahH1184, to bring upH5927 from thence the arkH0727 of GodH0430, whose nameH8034 is calledH7121 by the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 that dwellethH3427 between the cherubimsH3742. 3And they setH7392 the arkH0727 of GodH0430 upon a newH2319 cartH5699, and broughtH5375 it out of the houseH1004 of AbinadabH0041 that was in GibeahH1390: and UzzahH5798 and AhioH0283, the sonsH1121 of AbinadabH0041, draveH5090 the newH2319 cartH5699. 4And they broughtH5375 it out of the houseH1004 of AbinadabH0041 which was at GibeahH1390, accompanyingH5973 the arkH0727 of GodH0430: and AhioH0283 wentH1980 beforeH6440 the arkH0727. 5And DavidH1732 and all the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 playedH7832 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 on all manner of instruments made of firH1265 woodH6086, even on harpsH3658, and on psalteriesH5035, and on timbrelsH8596, and on cornetsH4517, and on cymbalsH6767.

6And when they cameH0935 to NachonsH5225 threshingfloorH1637, UzzahH5798 put forthH7971 his hand to the arkH0727 of GodH0430, and took holdH0270 of it; for the oxenH1241 shookH8058 it . 7And the angerH0639 of the LORDH3068 was kindledH2734 against UzzahH5798; and GodH0430 smoteH5221 him there for his errorH7944; and there he diedH4191 by the arkH0727 of GodH0430. 8And DavidH1732 was displeasedH2734, because the LORDH3068 had madeH6555 a breachH6556 upon UzzahH5798: and he calledH7121 the name of the placeH4725 Perez-uzzahH6560 to this dayH3117. 9And DavidH1732 was afraidH3372 of the LORDH3068 that dayH3117, and saidH0559, How shall the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068 comeH0935 to me? 10So DavidH1732 wouldH0014 not removeH5493 the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068 unto him into the cityH5892 of DavidH1732: but DavidH1732 carried it asideH5186 into the houseH1004 of Obed-edomH5654 the GittiteH1663. 11And the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068 continuedH3427 in the houseH1004 of Obed-edomH5654 the GittiteH1663 threeH7969 monthsH2320: and the LORDH3068 blessedH1288 Obed-edomH5654, and all his householdH1004.

12And it was toldH5046 kingH4428 DavidH1732, sayingH0559, The LORDH3068 hath blessedH1288 the houseH1004 of Obed-edomH5654, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the arkH0727 of GodH0430. So DavidH1732 wentH3212 and brought upH5927 the arkH0727 of GodH0430 from the houseH1004 of Obed-edomH5654 into the cityH5892 of DavidH1732 with gladnessH8057. 13And it was so , that when they that bareH5375 the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068 had goneH6805 sixH8337 pacesH6806, he sacrificedH2076 oxenH7794 and fatlingsH4806. 14And DavidH1732 dancedH3769 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 with all his mightH5797; and DavidH1732 was girdedH2296 with a linenH0906 ephodH0646. 15So DavidH1732 and all the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 brought upH5927 the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068 with shoutingH8643, and with the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782. 16And as the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068 cameH0935 into the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, MichalH4324 SaulsH7586 daughterH1323 lookedH8259 through a windowH2474, and sawH7200 kingH4428 DavidH1732 leapingH6339 and dancingH3769 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068; and she despisedH0959 him in her heartH3820.

17And they broughtH0935 in the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068, and setH3322 it in his placeH4725, in the midstH8432 of the tabernacleH0168 that DavidH1732 had pitchedH5186 for it: and DavidH1732 offeredH5927 burnt offeringsH5930 and peace offeringsH8002 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068. 18And as soon as DavidH1732 had made an endH3615 of offeringH5927 burnt offeringsH5930 and peace offeringsH8002, he blessedH1288 the peopleH5971 in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635. 19And he dealtH2505 among all the peopleH5971, even among the whole multitudeH1995 of IsraelH3478, as well to the womenH0802 as menH0376, to every oneH0376 aH0259 cakeH2471 of breadH3899, and a good pieceH0829 of flesh , and a flagonH0809 of wine . So all the peopleH5971 departedH3212 every oneH0376 to his houseH1004.

20Then DavidH1732 returnedH7725 to blessH1288 his householdH1004. And MichalH4324 the daughterH1323 of SaulH7586 came outH3318 to meetH7125 DavidH1732, and saidH0559, How gloriousH3513 was the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 to dayH3117, who uncoveredH1540 himself to dayH3117 in the eyesH5869 of the handmaidsH0519 of his servantsH5650, as oneH0259 of the vain fellowsH7386 shamelesslyH1540 uncoverethH1540 himself! 21And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto MichalH4324, It was beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, which choseH0977 me before thy fatherH0001, and before all his houseH1004, to appointH6680 me rulerH5057 over the peopleH5971 of the LORDH3068, over IsraelH3478: therefore will I playH7832 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068. 22And I will yet be more vileH7043 than thusH2063, and will be baseH8217 in mine own sightH5869: and of the maidservantsH0519 which thou hast spokenH0559 of, of them shall I be had in honourH3513. 23Therefore MichalH4324 the daughterH1323 of SaulH7586 had no childH2056 unto the dayH3117 of her deathH4194.

2 Samuel: Chapter 7

1And it came to pass, when the kingH4428 satH3427 in his houseH1004, and the LORDH3068 had given him restH5117 round aboutH5439 from all his enemiesH0341; 2That the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, SeeH7200 now, I dwellH3427 in an houseH1004 of cedarH0730, but the arkH0727 of GodH0430 dwellethH3427 withinH8432 curtainsH3407. 3And NathanH5416 saidH0559 to the kingH4428, GoH3212, doH6213 all that is in thine heartH3824; for the LORDH3068 is with thee.

4And it came to pass that nightH3915, that the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto NathanH5416, sayingH0559, 5GoH3212 and tellH0559 my servantH5650 DavidH1732, Thus saithH0559 the LORDH3068, Shalt thou buildH1129 me an houseH1004 for me to dwell inH3427? 6Whereas I have not dweltH3427 in any houseH1004 since the timeH3117 that I brought upH5927 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 out of EgyptH4714, even to this dayH3117, but have walkedH1980 in a tentH0168 and in a tabernacleH4908. 7In all the places wherein I have walkedH1980 with all the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 spakeH1696 I a wordH1697 with anyH0259 of the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, whom I commandedH6680 to feedH7462 my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, sayingH0559, Why buildH1129 ye not me an houseH1004 of cedarH0730? 8Now therefore so shalt thou sayH0559 unto my servantH5650 DavidH1732, Thus saithH0559 the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, I tookH3947 thee from the sheepcoteH5116, from followingH0310 the sheepH6629, to be rulerH5057 over my peopleH5971, over IsraelH3478: 9And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentestH1980, and have cut offH3772 all thine enemiesH0341 out of thy sightH6440, and have madeH6213 thee a greatH1419 nameH8034, like unto the nameH8034 of the greatH1419 men that are in the earthH0776. 10Moreover I will appointH7760 a placeH4725 for my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and will plantH5193 them, that they may dwellH7931 in a place of their own, and moveH7264 no more; neither shall the childrenH1121 of wickednessH5766 afflictH6031 them any moreH3254, as beforetimeH7223, 11And as since the timeH3117 that I commandedH6680 judgesH8199 to be over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and have caused thee to restH5117 from all thine enemiesH0341. Also the LORDH3068 tellethH5046 thee that he will makeH6213 thee an houseH1004.

12And when thy daysH3117 be fulfilledH4390, and thou shalt sleepH7901 with thy fathersH0001, I will set upH6965 thy seedH2233 afterH0310 thee, which shall proceedH3318 out of thy bowelsH4578, and I will establishH3559 his kingdomH4467. 13He shall buildH1129 an houseH1004 for my nameH8034, and I will stablishH3559 the throneH3678 of his kingdomH4467 forH5704 everH5769. 14I will be his fatherH0001, and he shall be my sonH1121. If he commit iniquityH5753, I will chastenH3198 him with the rodH7626 of menH0582, and with the stripesH5061 of the childrenH1121 of menH0120: 15But my mercyH2617 shall not depart awayH5493 from him, as I tookH5493 it from SaulH7586, whom I put awayH5493 beforeH6440 thee. 16And thine houseH1004 and thy kingdomH4467 shall be establishedH0539 forH5704 everH5769 beforeH6440 thee: thy throneH3678 shall be establishedH3559 forH5704 everH5769. 17According to all these wordsH1697, and according to all this visionH2384, so did NathanH5416 speakH1696 unto DavidH1732.

18Then wentH0935 kingH4428 DavidH1732 in, and satH3427 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and he saidH0559, Who am I, O LordH0136 GODH3069? and what is my houseH1004, that thou hast broughtH0935 me hithertoH1988? 19And this was yet a small thingH6994 in thy sightH5869, O LordH0136 GODH3069; but thou hast spokenH1696 also of thy servantsH5650 houseH1004 for a great while to comeH7350. And is this the mannerH8452 of manH0120, O LordH0136 GODH3069? 20And what canH3254 DavidH1732 sayH1696 moreH3254 unto thee? for thou, LordH0136 GODH3069, knowestH3045 thy servantH5650. 21For thy wordsH1697 sake, and according to thine own heartH3820, hast thou doneH6213 all these great thingsH1420, to make thy servantH5650 knowH3045 them . 22Wherefore thou art greatH1431, O LORDH3068 GodH0430: for there is none like thee, neither is there any GodH0430 besideH2108 thee, according to all that we have heardH8085 with our earsH0241. 23And what oneH0259 nationH1471 in the earthH0776 is like thy peopleH5971, even like IsraelH3478, whom GodH0430 wentH1980 to redeemH6299 for a peopleH5971 to himself, and to makeH7760 him a nameH8034, and to doH6213 for you great thingsH1420 and terribleH3372, for thy landH0776, beforeH6440 thy peopleH5971, which thou redeemedstH6299 to thee from EgyptH4714, from the nationsH1471 and their godsH0430? 24For thou hast confirmedH3559 to thyself thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 to be a peopleH5971 unto thee forH5704 everH5769: and thou, LORDH3068, art becomeH1961 their GodH0430. 25And now, O LORDH3068 GodH0430, the wordH1697 that thou hast spokenH1696 concerning thy servantH5650, and concerning his houseH1004, establishH6965 it forH5704 everH5769, and doH6213 as thou hast saidH1696. 26And let thy nameH8034 be magnifiedH1431 forH5704 everH5769, sayingH0559, The LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 is the GodH0430 over IsraelH3478: and let the houseH1004 of thy servantH5650 DavidH1732 be establishedH3559 beforeH6440 thee. 27For thou, O LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, GodH0430 of IsraelH3478, hast revealedH1540 to thy servantH5650, sayingH0559, I will buildH1129 thee an houseH1004: therefore hath thy servantH5650 foundH4672 in his heartH3820 to prayH6419 this prayerH8605 unto thee. 28And now, O LordH0136 GODH3069, thou art that GodH0430, and thy wordsH1697 be trueH0571, and thou hast promisedH1696 this goodnessH2896 unto thy servantH5650: 29Therefore now let it pleaseH2974 thee to blessH1288 the houseH1004 of thy servantH5650, that it may continue for everH5769 beforeH6440 thee: for thou, O LordH0136 GODH3069, hast spokenH1696 it: and with thy blessingH1293 let the houseH1004 of thy servantH5650 be blessedH1288 for everH5769.

2 Samuel: Chapter 8

1And afterH0310 this it came to pass, that DavidH1732 smoteH5221 the PhilistinesH6430, and subduedH3665 them: and DavidH1732 tookH3947 Metheg-ammahH4965 out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. 2And he smoteH5221 MoabH4124, and measuredH4058 them with a lineH2256, casting them downH7901 to the groundH0776; even with twoH8147 linesH2256 measuredH4058 he to put to deathH4191, and with one fullH4393 lineH2256 to keep aliveH2421. And so the MoabitesH4124 became DavidsH1732 servantsH5650, and broughtH5375 giftsH4503.

3 DavidH1732 smoteH5221 also HadadezerH1909, the sonH1121 of RehobH7340, kingH4428 of ZobahH6678, as he wentH3212 to recoverH7725 his borderH3027 at the riverH5104 EuphratesH6578. 4And DavidH1732 tookH3920 from him a thousandH0505 chariots , and sevenH7651 hundredH3967 horsemenH6571, and twentyH6242 thousandH0505 footmenH0376: and DavidH1732 houghedH6131 all the chariotH7393 horses , but reservedH3498 of them for an hundredH3967 chariotsH7393. 5And when the SyriansH0758 of DamascusH1834 cameH0935 to succourH5826 HadadezerH1909 kingH4428 of ZobahH6678, DavidH1732 slewH5221 of the SyriansH0758 twoH8147 and twentyH6242 thousandH0505 menH0376. 6Then DavidH1732 putH7760 garrisonsH5333 in SyriaH0758 of DamascusH1834: and the SyriansH0758 became servantsH5650 to DavidH1732, and broughtH5375 giftsH4503. And the LORDH3068 preservedH3467 DavidH1732 whithersoever he wentH1980. 7And DavidH1732 tookH3947 the shieldsH7982 of goldH2091 that were on the servantsH5650 of HadadezerH1909, and broughtH0935 them to JerusalemH3389. 8And from BetahH0984, and from BerothaiH1268, citiesH5892 of HadadezerH1909, kingH4428 DavidH1732 tookH3947 exceedingH3966 muchH7235 brassH5178.

9When ToiH8583 kingH4428 of HamathH2574 heardH8085 that DavidH1732 had smittenH5221 all the hostH2428 of HadadezerH1909, 10Then ToiH8583 sentH7971 JoramH3141 his sonH1121 unto kingH4428 DavidH1732, to saluteH7592 him, and to blessH1288 him, because he had foughtH3898 against HadadezerH1909, and smittenH5221 him: for HadadezerH1909 had warsH0376 with ToiH8583. And Joram brought with himH3027 vesselsH3627 of silverH3701, and vesselsH3627 of goldH2091, and vesselsH3627 of brassH5178: 11Which also kingH4428 DavidH1732 did dedicateH6942 unto the LORDH3068, with the silverH3701 and goldH2091 that he had dedicatedH6942 of all nationsH1471 which he subduedH3533; 12Of SyriaH0758, and of MoabH4124, and of the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983, and of the PhilistinesH6430, and of AmalekH6002, and of the spoilH7998 of HadadezerH1909, sonH1121 of RehobH7340, kingH4428 of ZobahH6678. 13And DavidH1732 gatH6213 him a nameH8034 when he returnedH7725 from smitingH5221 of the SyriansH0758 in the valleyH1516 of saltH4417, being eighteenH8083 thousandH0505 men .

14And he putH7760 garrisonsH5333 in EdomH0123; throughout all EdomH0123 putH7760 he garrisonsH5333, and all they of EdomH0123 became DavidsH1732 servantsH5650. And the LORDH3068 preservedH3467 DavidH1732 whithersoever he wentH1980.

15And DavidH1732 reignedH4427 over all IsraelH3478; and DavidH1732 executedH6213 judgmentH4941 and justiceH6666 unto all his peopleH5971. 16And JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 was over the hostH6635; and JehoshaphatH3092 the sonH1121 of AhiludH0286 was recorderH2142; 17And ZadokH6659 the sonH1121 of AhitubH0285, and AhimelechH0288 the sonH1121 of AbiatharH0054, were the priestsH3548; and SeraiahH8304 was the scribeH5608; 18And BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 was over both the CherethitesH3774 and the PelethitesH6432; and DavidsH1732 sonsH1121 were chief rulersH3548.

2 Samuel: Chapter 9

1And DavidH1732 saidH0559, Is there yetH3426 any that is leftH3498 of the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, that I may shewH6213 him kindnessH2617 for JonathansH3083 sake? 2And there was of the houseH1004 of SaulH7586 a servantH5650 whose nameH8034 was ZibaH6717. And when they had calledH7121 him unto DavidH1732, the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto him, Art thou ZibaH6717? And he saidH0559, Thy servantH5650 is he . 3And the kingH4428 saidH0559, Is there notH0657 yet anyH0376 of the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, that I may shewH6213 the kindnessH2617 of GodH0430 unto him? And ZibaH6717 saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, JonathanH3083 hath yet a sonH1121, which is lameH5223 on his feetH7272. 4And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto him, WhereH0375 is he? And ZibaH6717 saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, Behold, he is in the houseH1004 of MachirH4353, the sonH1121 of AmmielH5988, in Lo-debarH3810.

5Then kingH4428 DavidH1732 sentH7971, and fetchedH3947 him out of the houseH1004 of MachirH4353, the sonH1121 of AmmielH5988, from Lo-debarH3810. 6Now when MephiboshethH4648, the sonH1121 of JonathanH3083, the sonH1121 of SaulH7586, was comeH0935 unto DavidH1732, he fellH5307 on his faceH6440, and did reverenceH7812. And DavidH1732 saidH0559, MephiboshethH4648. And he answeredH0559, Behold thy servantH5650!

7And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto him, FearH3372 not: for I will surelyH6213 shewH6213 thee kindnessH2617 for JonathanH3083 thy fathersH0001 sake, and will restoreH7725 thee all the landH7704 of SaulH7586 thy fatherH0001; and thou shalt eatH0398 breadH3899 at my tableH7979 continuallyH8548. 8And he bowedH7812 himself, and saidH0559, What is thy servantH5650, that thou shouldest lookH6437 upon such a deadH4191 dogH3611 as I am ?

9Then the kingH4428 calledH7121 to ZibaH6717, SaulsH7586 servantH5288, and saidH0559 unto him, I have givenH5414 unto thy mastersH0113 sonH1121 all that pertainedH1961 to SaulH7586 and to all his houseH1004. 10Thou therefore, and thy sonsH1121, and thy servantsH5650, shall tillH5647 the landH0127 for him, and thou shalt bringH0935 in the fruits , that thy mastersH0113 sonH1121 may have foodH3899 to eatH0398: but MephiboshethH4648 thy mastersH0113 sonH1121 shall eatH0398 breadH3899 alwayH8548 at my tableH7979. Now ZibaH6717 had fifteenH2568 sonsH1121 and twentyH6242 servantsH5650. 11Then saidH0559 ZibaH6717 unto the kingH4428, According to all that my lordH0113 the kingH4428 hath commandedH6680 his servantH5650, so shall thy servantH5650 doH6213. As for MephiboshethH4648, said the king , he shall eatH0398 at my tableH7979, as oneH0259 of the kingsH4428 sonsH1121. 12And MephiboshethH4648 had a youngH6996 sonH1121, whose nameH8034 was MichaH4316. And all that dweltH4186 in the houseH1004 of ZibaH6717 were servantsH5650 unto MephiboshethH4648. 13So MephiboshethH4648 dweltH3427 in JerusalemH3389: for he did eatH0398 continuallyH8548 at the kingsH4428 tableH7979; and was lameH6455 on bothH8147 his feetH7272.

2 Samuel: Chapter 10

1And it came to pass after thisH0310, that the kingH4428 of the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983 diedH4191, and HanunH2586 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead. 2Then saidH0559 DavidH1732, I will shewH6213 kindnessH2617 unto HanunH2586 the sonH1121 of NahashH5176, as his fatherH0001 shewedH6213 kindnessH2617 unto me. And DavidH1732 sentH7971 to comfortH5162 him by the handH3027 of his servantsH5650 for his fatherH0001. And DavidsH1732 servantsH5650 cameH0935 into the landH0776 of the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983. 3And the princesH8269 of the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983 saidH0559 unto HanunH2586 their lordH0113, ThinkestH5869 thou that DavidH1732 doth honourH3513 thy fatherH0001, that he hath sentH7971 comfortersH5162 unto thee? hath not DavidH1732 rather sentH7971 his servantsH5650 unto thee, toH5668 searchH2713 the cityH5892, and to spy it outH7270, and to overthrowH2015 it? 4Wherefore HanunH2586 tookH3947 DavidsH1732 servantsH5650, and shaved offH1548 the one halfH2677 of their beardsH2206, and cut offH3772 their garmentsH4063 in the middleH2677, even to their buttocksH8357, and sent them awayH7971. 5When they toldH5046 it unto DavidH1732, he sentH7971 to meetH7125 them, because the menH0582 were greatlyH3966 ashamedH3637: and the kingH4428 saidH0559, TarryH3427 at JerichoH3405 until your beardsH2206 be grownH6779, and then returnH7725.

6And when the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983 sawH7200 that they stankH0887 before DavidH1732, the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983 sentH7971 and hiredH7936 the SyriansH0758 of Beth-rehobH1050, and the SyriansH0758 of ZobaH6678, twentyH6242 thousandH0505 footmenH7273, and of kingH4428 MaacahH4601 a thousandH0505 menH0376, and of Ish-tobH0382 twelveH6240 thousandH0505 menH0376. 7And when DavidH1732 heardH8085 of it , he sentH7971 JoabH3097, and all the hostH6635 of the mighty menH1368. 8And the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983 came outH3318, and put the battleH4421 in arrayH6186 at the entering inH6607 of the gateH8179: and the SyriansH0758 of ZobaH6678, and of RehobH7340, and Ish-tobH0382, and MaacahH4601, were by themselvesH0905 in the fieldH7704. 9When JoabH3097 sawH7200 that the frontH6440 of the battleH4421 was against him beforeH6440 and behindH0268, he choseH0977 of all the choiceH0977 men of IsraelH3478, and put them in arrayH6186 againstH7125 the SyriansH0758: 10And the restH3499 of the peopleH5971 he deliveredH5414 into the handH3027 of AbishaiH0052 his brotherH0251, that he might put them in arrayH6186 againstH7125 the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983. 11And he saidH0559, If the SyriansH0758 be too strongH2388 for me, then thou shalt helpH3444 me: but if the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983 be too strongH2388 for thee, then I will comeH1980 and helpH3467 thee. 12Be of good courageH2388, and let us play the menH2388 for our peopleH5971, and for the citiesH5892 of our GodH0430: and the LORDH3068 doH6213 that which seemethH5869 him goodH2896. 13And JoabH3097 drew nighH5066, and the peopleH5971 that were with him, unto the battleH4421 against the SyriansH0758: and they fledH5127 beforeH6440 him. 14And when the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983 sawH7200 that the SyriansH0758 were fledH5127, then fledH5127 they also beforeH6440 AbishaiH0052, and enteredH0935 into the cityH5892. So JoabH3097 returnedH7725 from the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983, and cameH0935 to JerusalemH3389.

15And when the SyriansH0758 sawH7200 that they were smittenH5062 beforeH6440 IsraelH3478, they gatheredH0622 themselves togetherH3162. 16And HadarezerH1928 sentH7971, and brought outH3318 the SyriansH0758 that were beyondH5676 the riverH5104: and they cameH0935 to HelamH2431; and ShobachH7731 the captainH8269 of the hostH6635 of HadarezerH1928 went beforeH6440 them. 17And when it was toldH5046 DavidH1732, he gatheredH0622 all IsraelH3478 togetherH0622, and passed overH5674 JordanH3383, and cameH0935 to HelamH2431. And the SyriansH0758 set themselves in arrayH6186 againstH7125 DavidH1732, and foughtH3898 with him. 18And the SyriansH0758 fledH5127 beforeH6440 IsraelH3478; and DavidH1732 slewH2026 the men of sevenH7651 hundredH3967 chariotsH7393 of the SyriansH0758, and fortyH0705 thousandH0505 horsemenH6571, and smoteH5221 ShobachH7731 the captainH8269 of their hostH6635, who diedH4191 there. 19And when all the kingsH4428 that were servantsH5650 to HadarezerH1928 sawH7200 that they were smittenH5062 beforeH6440 IsraelH3478, they made peaceH7999 with IsraelH3478, and servedH5647 them. So the SyriansH0758 fearedH3372 to helpH3467 the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983 any more.

2 Samuel: Chapter 11

1And it came to pass, after the yearH8141 was expiredH8666, at the timeH6256 when kingsH4428 go forthH3318 to battle , that DavidH1732 sentH7971 JoabH3097, and his servantsH5650 with him, and all IsraelH3478; and they destroyedH7843 the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983, and besiegedH6696 RabbahH7237. But DavidH1732 tarried stillH3427 at JerusalemH3389.

2And it came to pass in an eveningtideH6153, that DavidH1732 aroseH6965 from off his bedH4904, and walkedH1980 upon the roofH1406 of the kingsH4428 houseH1004: and from the roofH1406 he sawH7200 a womanH0802 washingH7364 herself; and the womanH0802 was veryH3966 beautifulH2896 to look uponH4758. 3And DavidH1732 sentH7971 and enquiredH1875 after the womanH0802. And one saidH0559, Is not this Bath-shebaH1339, the daughterH1323 of EliamH0463, the wifeH0802 of UriahH0223 the HittiteH2850? 4And DavidH1732 sentH7971 messengersH4397, and tookH3947 her; and she came inH0935 unto him, and he layH7901 with her; for she was purifiedH6942 from her uncleannessH2932: and she returnedH7725 unto her houseH1004. 5And the womanH0802 conceivedH2029, and sentH7971 and toldH5046 DavidH1732, and saidH0559, I am with childH2030.

6And DavidH1732 sentH7971 to JoabH3097, saying , SendH7971 me UriahH0223 the HittiteH2850. And JoabH3097 sentH7971 UriahH0223 to DavidH1732. 7And when UriahH0223 was comeH0935 unto him, DavidH1732 demandedH7592 of him how JoabH3097 didH7965, and how the peopleH5971 didH7965, and how the warH4421 prosperedH7965. 8And DavidH1732 saidH0559 to UriahH0223, Go downH3381 to thy houseH1004, and washH7364 thy feetH7272. And UriahH0223 departed outH3318 of the kingsH4428 houseH1004, and there followedH0310 him a messH4864 of meat from the kingH4428. 9But UriahH0223 sleptH7901 at the doorH6607 of the kingsH4428 houseH1004 with all the servantsH5650 of his lordH0113, and went not downH3381 to his houseH1004. 10And when they had toldH5046 DavidH1732, sayingH0559, UriahH0223 went not downH3381 unto his houseH1004, DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto UriahH0223, CamestH0935 thou not from thy journeyH1870? why then didst thou not go downH3381 unto thine houseH1004? 11And UriahH0223 saidH0559 unto DavidH1732, The arkH0727, and IsraelH3478, and JudahH3063, abideH3427 in tentsH5521; and my lordH0113 JoabH3097, and the servantsH5650 of my lordH0113, are encampedH2583 in the openH6440 fieldsH7704; shall IH0589 then goH0935 into mine houseH1004, to eatH0398 and to drinkH8354, and to lieH7901 with my wifeH0802? as thou livestH2416, and as thy soulH5315 livethH2416, I will not doH6213 this thingH1697. 12And DavidH1732 saidH0559 to UriahH0223, TarryH3427 here to dayH3117 also, and to morrowH4279 I will let thee departH7971. So UriahH0223 abodeH3427 in JerusalemH3389 that dayH3117, and the morrowH4283. 13And when DavidH1732 had calledH7121 him, he did eatH0398 and drinkH8354 beforeH6440 him; and he made him drunkH7937: and at evenH6153 he went outH3318 to lieH7901 on his bedH4904 with the servantsH5650 of his lordH0113, but went not downH3381 to his houseH1004.

14And it came to pass in the morningH1242, that DavidH1732 wroteH3789 a letterH5612 to JoabH3097, and sentH7971 it by the handH3027 of UriahH0223. 15And he wroteH3789 in the letterH5612, sayingH0559, SetH3051 ye UriahH0223 in the forefrontH6440 of the hottestH2389 battleH4421, and retireH7725 ye from himH0310, that he may be smittenH5221, and dieH4191. 16And it came to pass, when JoabH3097 observedH8104 the cityH5892, that he assignedH5414 UriahH0223 unto a placeH4725 where he knewH3045 that valiantH2428 menH0582 were . 17And the menH0582 of the cityH5892 went outH3318, and foughtH3898 with JoabH3097: and there fellH5307 some of the peopleH5971 of the servantsH5650 of DavidH1732; and UriahH0223 the HittiteH2850 diedH4191 also.

18Then JoabH3097 sentH7971 and toldH5046 DavidH1732 all the thingsH1697 concerning the warH4421; 19And chargedH6680 the messengerH4397, sayingH0559, When thou hast made an endH3615 of tellingH1696 the mattersH1697 of the warH4421 unto the kingH4428, 20And if so be that the kingsH4428 wrathH2534 ariseH5927, and he sayH0559 unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nighH5066 unto the cityH5892 when ye did fightH3898? knewH3045 ye not that they would shootH3384 from the wallH2346? 21Who smoteH5221 AbimelechH0040 the sonH1121 of JerubbeshethH3380? did not a womanH0802 castH7993 a pieceH6400 of a millstoneH7393 upon him from the wallH2346, that he diedH4191 in ThebezH8405? why went ye nighH5066 the wallH2346? then sayH0559 thou, Thy servantH5650 UriahH0223 the HittiteH2850 is deadH4191 also.

22So the messengerH4397 wentH3212, and cameH0935 and shewedH5046 DavidH1732 all that JoabH3097 had sentH7971 him for. 23And the messengerH4397 saidH0559 unto DavidH1732, Surely the menH0582 prevailedH1396 against us, and came outH3318 unto us into the fieldH7704, and we were upon them even unto the enteringH6607 of the gateH8179. 24And the shootersH3384 shotH3384 from off the wallH2346 upon thy servantsH5650; and some of the kingsH4428 servantsH5650 be deadH4191, and thy servantH5650 UriahH0223 the HittiteH2850 is deadH4191 also. 25Then DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto the messengerH4397, Thus shalt thou sayH0559 unto JoabH3097, Let not this thingH1697 displeaseH3415 thee, for the swordH2719 devourethH0398 one as well as anotherH2090: make thy battleH4421 more strongH2388 against the cityH5892, and overthrowH2040 it: and encourageH2388 thou him.

26And when the wifeH0802 of UriahH0223 heardH8085 that UriahH0223 her husbandH0376 was deadH4191, she mournedH5594 for her husbandH1167. 27And when the mourningH0060 was pastH5674, DavidH1732 sentH7971 and fetchedH0622 her to his houseH1004, and she became his wifeH0802, and bareH3205 him a sonH1121. But the thingH1697 that DavidH1732 had doneH6213 displeasedH3415 the LORDH3068.

2 Samuel: Chapter 12

1And the LORDH3068 sentH7971 NathanH5416 unto DavidH1732. And he cameH0935 unto him, and saidH0559 unto him, There were twoH8147 menH0582 in oneH0259 cityH5892; the oneH0259 richH6223, and the otherH0259 poorH7326. 2The richH6223 man had exceedingH3966 manyH7235 flocksH6629 and herdsH1241: 3But the poorH7326 man had nothing, save oneH0259 littleH6996 ewe lambH3535, which he had boughtH7069 and nourished upH2421: and it grew upH1431 togetherH3162 with him, and with his childrenH1121; it did eatH0398 of his own meatH6595, and drankH8354 of his own cupH3563, and layH7901 in his bosomH2436, and was unto him as a daughterH1323. 4And there cameH0935 a travellerH1982 unto the richH6223 manH0376, and he sparedH2550 to takeH3947 of his own flockH6629 and of his own herdH1241, to dressH6213 for the wayfaring manH0732 that was comeH0935 unto him; but tookH3947 the poorH7326 mansH0376 lambH3535, and dressedH6213 it for the manH0376 that was comeH0935 to him. 5And DavidsH1732 angerH0639 was greatlyH3966 kindledH2734 against the manH0376; and he saidH0559 to NathanH5416, As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, the manH0376 that hath doneH6213 this thing shall surelyH1121 dieH4194: 6And he shall restoreH7999 the lambH3535 fourfoldH0706, becauseH6118 he didH6213 this thingH1697, and becauseH0834 he had no pityH2550.

7And NathanH5416 saidH0559 to DavidH1732, Thou art the manH0376. Thus saithH0559 the LORDH3068 GodH0430 of IsraelH3478, I anointedH4886 thee kingH4428 over IsraelH3478, and I deliveredH5337 thee out of the handH3027 of SaulH7586; 8And I gaveH5414 thee thy mastersH0113 houseH1004, and thy mastersH0113 wivesH0802 into thy bosomH2436, and gaveH5414 thee the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 and of JudahH3063; and if that had been too littleH4592, I would moreover have givenH3254 unto thee suchH2007 and such thingsH2007. 9Wherefore hast thou despisedH0959 the commandmentH1697 of the LORDH3068, to doH6213 evilH7451 in his sightH5869? thou hast killedH5221 UriahH0223 the HittiteH2850 with the swordH2719, and hast takenH3947 his wifeH0802 to be thy wifeH0802, and hast slainH2026 him with the swordH2719 of the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983. 10Now therefore the swordH2719 shall neverH5704 departH5493 from thine houseH1004; becauseH6118 thou hast despisedH0959 me, and hast takenH3947 the wifeH0802 of UriahH0223 the HittiteH2850 to be thy wifeH0802. 11Thus saithH0559 the LORDH3068, Behold, I will raise upH6965 evilH7451 against thee out of thine own houseH1004, and I will takeH3947 thy wivesH0802 before thine eyesH5869, and giveH5414 them unto thy neighbourH7453, and he shall lieH7901 with thy wivesH0802 in the sightH5869 of this sunH8121. 12For thou didstH6213 it secretlyH5643: but I will doH6213 this thingH1697 before all IsraelH3478, and before the sunH8121. 13And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto NathanH5416, I have sinnedH2398 against the LORDH3068. And NathanH5416 saidH0559 unto DavidH1732, The LORDH3068 also hath put awayH5674 thy sinH2403; thou shalt not dieH4191. 14HowbeitH0657, because by this deedH1697 thou hast givenH5006 great occasionH5006 to the enemiesH0341 of the LORDH3068 to blasphemeH5006, the childH1121 also that is bornH3209 unto thee shall surelyH4191 dieH4191.

15And NathanH5416 departedH3212 unto his houseH1004. And the LORDH3068 struckH5062 the childH3206 that UriahsH0223 wifeH0802 bareH3205 unto DavidH1732, and it was very sickH0605. 16 DavidH1732 therefore besoughtH1245 GodH0430 for the childH5288; and DavidH1732 fastedH6684, and went inH0935, and layH7901 all nightH3885 upon the earthH0776. 17And the eldersH2205 of his houseH1004 aroseH6965, and went to him, to raise him upH6965 from the earthH0776: but he wouldH0014 not, neither did he eatH1262 breadH3899 with them. 18And it came to pass on the seventhH7637 dayH3117, that the childH3206 diedH4191. And the servantsH5650 of DavidH1732 fearedH3372 to tellH5046 him that the childH3206 was deadH4191: for they saidH0559, Behold, while the childH3206 was yet aliveH2416, we spakeH1696 unto him, and he would not hearkenH8085 unto our voiceH6963: how will he thenH6213 vexH7451 himselfH6213, if we tellH0559 him that the childH3206 is deadH4191? 19But when DavidH1732 sawH7200 that his servantsH5650 whisperedH3907, DavidH1732 perceivedH0995 that the childH3206 was deadH4191: therefore DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto his servantsH5650, Is the childH3206 deadH4191? And they saidH0559, He is deadH4191. 20Then DavidH1732 aroseH6965 from the earthH0776, and washedH7364, and anointedH5480 himself , and changedH2498 his apparelH8071, and cameH0935 into the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and worshippedH7812: then he cameH0935 to his own houseH1004; and when he requiredH7592, they setH7760 breadH3899 before him, and he did eatH0398. 21Then saidH0559 his servantsH5650 unto him, What thingH1697 is this that thou hast doneH6213? thou didst fastH6684 and weepH1058 for the childH3206, while it was aliveH2416; but when the childH3206 was deadH4191, thou didst riseH6965 and eatH0398 breadH3899. 22And he saidH0559, While the childH3206 was yet aliveH2416, I fastedH6684 and weptH1058: for I saidH0559, Who can tellH3045 whether GODH3068 will be graciousH2603 to me, that the childH3206 may liveH2416? 23But now he is deadH4191, wherefore should I fastH6684? canH3201 I bring him back againH7725? I shall goH1980 to him, but he shall not returnH7725 to me.

24And DavidH1732 comfortedH5162 Bath-shebaH1339 his wifeH0802, and went inH0935 unto her, and layH7901 with her: and she bareH3205 a sonH1121, and he calledH7121 his nameH8034 SolomonH8010: and the LORDH3068 lovedH0157 him. 25And he sentH7971 by the handH3027 of NathanH5416 the prophetH5030; and he calledH7121 his nameH8034 JedidiahH3041, because of the LORDH3068.

26And JoabH3097 foughtH3898 against RabbahH7237 of the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983, and tookH3920 the royalH4410 cityH5892. 27And JoabH3097 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to DavidH1732, and saidH0559, I have foughtH3898 against RabbahH7237, and have takenH3920 the cityH5892 of watersH4325. 28Now therefore gatherH0622 the restH3499 of the peopleH5971 togetherH0622, and encampH2583 against the cityH5892, and takeH3920 it: lest I takeH3920 the cityH5892, and it be calledH7121 after my nameH8034. 29And DavidH1732 gatheredH0622 all the peopleH5971 togetherH0622, and wentH3212 to RabbahH7237, and foughtH3898 against it, and tookH3920 it. 30And he tookH3947 their kingsH4428 crownH5850 from off his headH7218, the weightH4948 whereof was a talentH3603 of goldH2091 with the preciousH3368 stonesH0068: and it was set on DavidsH1732 headH7218. And he brought forthH3318 the spoilH7998 of the cityH5892 in greatH3966 abundanceH7235. 31And he brought forthH3318 the peopleH5971 that were therein, and putH7760 them under sawsH4050, and under harrowsH2757 of ironH1270, and under axesH4037 of ironH1270, and made them passH5674 through the brickkilnH4404: and thus didH6213 he unto all the citiesH5892 of the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983. So DavidH1732 and all the peopleH5971 returnedH7725 unto JerusalemH3389.

2 Samuel: Chapter 13

1And it came to pass afterH0310 this, that AbsalomH0053 the sonH1121 of DavidH1732 had a fairH3303 sisterH0269, whose nameH8034 was TamarH8559; and AmnonH0550 the sonH1121 of DavidH1732 lovedH0157 her. 2And AmnonH0550 was so vexedH3334, that he fell sickH2470 for his sisterH0269 TamarH8559; for she was a virginH1330; and AmnonH0550 thoughtH5869 it hardH6381 for him to doH6213 any thingH3972 to her. 3But AmnonH0550 had a friendH7453, whose nameH8034 was JonadabH3122, the sonH1121 of ShimeahH8093 DavidsH1732 brotherH0251: and JonadabH3122 was a veryH3966 subtilH2450 manH0376. 4And he saidH0559 unto him, Why art thou, being the kingsH4428 sonH1121, leanH1800 from dayH1242 to dayH1242? wilt thou not tellH5046 me? And AmnonH0550 saidH0559 unto him, I loveH0157 TamarH8559, my brotherH0251 AbsalomsH0053 sisterH0269. 5And JonadabH3082 saidH0559 unto him, Lay thee downH7901 on thy bedH4904, and make thyself sickH2470: and when thy fatherH0001 comethH0935 to seeH7200 thee, sayH0559 unto him, I pray thee, let my sisterH0269 TamarH8559 comeH0935, and giveH1262 me meatH3899, and dressH6213 the meatH1279 in my sightH5869, that I may seeH7200 it , and eatH0398 it at her handH3027.

6So AmnonH0550 lay downH7901, and made himself sickH2470: and when the kingH4428 was comeH0935 to seeH7200 him, AmnonH0550 saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, I pray thee, let TamarH8559 my sisterH0269 comeH0935, and makeH3823 me a coupleH8147 of cakesH3834 in my sightH5869, that I may eatH1262 at her handH3027. 7Then DavidH1732 sentH7971 homeH1004 to TamarH8559, sayingH0559, GoH3212 now to thy brotherH0251 AmnonsH0550 houseH1004, and dressH6213 him meatH1279. 8So TamarH8559 wentH3212 to her brotherH0251 AmnonsH0550 houseH1004; and he was laid downH7901. And she tookH3947 flourH1217, and kneadedH3888 it , and made cakesH3823 in his sightH5869, and did bakeH1310 the cakesH3834. 9And she tookH3947 a panH4958, and poured them outH3332 beforeH6440 him; but he refusedH3985 to eatH0398. And AmnonH0550 saidH0559, Have outH3318 all menH0376 from me. And they went outH3318 every manH0376 from him. 10And AmnonH0550 saidH0559 unto TamarH8559, BringH0935 the meatH1279 into the chamberH2315, that I may eatH1262 of thine handH3027. And TamarH8559 tookH3947 the cakesH3834 which she had madeH6213, and broughtH0935 them into the chamberH2315 to AmnonH0550 her brotherH0251. 11And when she had broughtH5066 them unto him to eatH0398, he took holdH2388 of her, and saidH0559 unto her, ComeH0935 lieH7901 with me, my sisterH0269. 12And she answeredH0559 him, Nay, my brotherH0251, do not forceH6031 me; for no such thing oughtH3651 to be doneH6213 in IsraelH3478: doH6213 not thou this follyH5039. 13And I, whither shall I cause my shameH2781 to goH3212? and as for thee, thou shalt be as oneH0259 of the foolsH5036 in IsraelH3478. Now therefore, I pray thee, speakH1696 unto the kingH4428; for he will not withholdH4513 me from thee. 14Howbeit he wouldH0014 not hearkenH8085 unto her voiceH6963: but, being strongerH2388 than she, forcedH6031 her, and layH7901 with her.

15Then AmnonH0550 hatedH8130 her exceedinglyH3966; so that the hatredH8135 wherewith he hatedH8130 her was greaterH1419 than the loveH0160 wherewith he had lovedH0157 her. And AmnonH0550 saidH0559 unto her, AriseH6965, be goneH3212. 16And she saidH0559 unto him, There is no causeH0182: this evilH7451 in sending me awayH7971 is greaterH1419 than the otherH0312 that thou didstH6213 unto me. But he wouldH0014 not hearkenH8085 unto her. 17Then he calledH7121 his servantH5288 that ministeredH8334 unto him, and saidH0559, PutH7971 now this woman outH2351 from me, and boltH5274 the doorH1817 afterH0310 her. 18And she had a garmentH3801 of divers coloursH6446 upon her: for with such robesH4598 were the kingsH4428 daughtersH1323 that were virginsH1330 apparelledH3847. Then his servantH8334 broughtH3318 her outH2351, and boltedH5274 the doorH1817 afterH0310 her.

19And TamarH8559 putH3947 ashesH0665 on her headH7218, and rentH7167 her garmentH3801 of divers coloursH6446 that was on her, and laidH7760 her handH3027 on her headH7218, and wentH3212 onH1980 cryingH2199. 20And AbsalomH0053 her brotherH0251 saidH0559 unto her, Hath AmnonH0550 thy brotherH0251 been with thee? but hold now thy peaceH2790, my sisterH0269: he is thy brotherH0251; regardH7896 not this thingH1697. So TamarH8559 remainedH3427 desolateH8074 in her brotherH0251 AbsalomsH0053 houseH1004.

21But when kingH4428 DavidH1732 heardH8085 of all these thingsH1697, he was veryH3966 wrothH2734. 22And AbsalomH0053 spakeH1696 unto his brother AmnonH0550 neither goodH2896 nor badH7451: for AbsalomH0053 hatedH8130 AmnonH0550, becauseH1697 he had forcedH6031 his sisterH0269 TamarH8559.

23And it came to pass after two fullH3117 yearsH8141, that AbsalomH0053 had sheepshearersH1494 in Baal-hazorH1178, which is beside EphraimH0669: and AbsalomH0053 invitedH7121 all the kingsH4428 sonsH1121. 24And AbsalomH0053 cameH0935 to the kingH4428, and saidH0559, Behold now, thy servantH5650 hath sheepshearersH1494; letH3212 the kingH4428, I beseech thee, and his servantsH5650 goH3212 with thy servantH5650. 25And the kingH4428 saidH0559 to AbsalomH0053, Nay, my sonH1121, let us not all now goH3212, lest we be chargeableH3513 unto thee. And he pressedH6555 him: howbeit he wouldH0014 not goH3212, but blessedH1288 him. 26Then saidH0559 AbsalomH0053, If not, I pray thee, let my brotherH0251 AmnonH0550 goH3212 with us. And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto him, Why should he goH3212 with thee? 27But AbsalomH0053 pressedH6555 him, that he let AmnonH0550 and all the kingsH4428 sonsH1121 goH7971 with him.

28Now AbsalomH0053 had commandedH6680 his servantsH5288, sayingH0559, MarkH7200 ye now when AmnonsH0550 heartH3820 is merryH2896 with wineH3196, and when I sayH0559 unto you, SmiteH5221 AmnonH0550; then killH4191 him, fearH3372 not: have not I commandedH6680 you? be courageousH2388, and be valiantH1121. 29And the servantsH5288 of AbsalomH0053 didH6213 unto AmnonH0550 as AbsalomH0053 had commandedH6680. Then all the kingsH4428 sonsH1121 aroseH6965, and every manH0376 gat him upH7392 upon his muleH6505, and fledH5127.

30And it came to pass, while they were in the wayH1870, that tidingsH8052 cameH0935 to DavidH1732, sayingH0559, AbsalomH0053 hath slainH5221 all the kingsH4428 sonsH1121, and there is not oneH0259 of them leftH3498. 31Then the kingH4428 aroseH6965, and tareH7167 his garmentsH0899, and layH7901 on the earthH0776; and all his servantsH5650 stoodH5324 by with their clothesH0899 rentH7167. 32And JonadabH3122, the sonH1121 of ShimeahH8093 DavidsH1732 brotherH0251, answeredH6030 and saidH0559, Let not my lordH0113 supposeH0559 that they have slainH4191 all the young menH5288 the kingsH4428 sonsH1121; for AmnonH0550 only is deadH4191: for by the appointmentH6310 of AbsalomH0053 this hath been determinedH7760 from the dayH3117 that he forcedH6031 his sisterH0269 TamarH8559. 33Now therefore let not my lordH0113 the kingH4428 takeH7760 the thingH1697 to his heartH3820, to thinkH0559 that all the kingsH4428 sonsH1121 are deadH4191: for AmnonH0550 only is deadH4191. 34But AbsalomH0053 fledH1272. And the young manH5288 that kept the watchH6822 lifted upH5375 his eyesH5869, and lookedH7200, and, behold, there cameH1980 muchH7227 peopleH5971 by the wayH1870 of the hillH2022 sideH6654 behindH0310 him. 35And JonadabH3122 saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, Behold, the kingsH4428 sonsH1121 comeH0935: as thy servantH5650 saidH1697, so it is. 36And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an endH3615 of speakingH1696, that, behold, the kingsH4428 sonsH1121 cameH0935, and lifted upH5375 their voiceH6963 and weptH1058: and the kingH4428 also and all his servantsH5650 weptH1058 veryH3966 soreH1065.

37But AbsalomH0053 fledH1272, and wentH3212 to TalmaiH8526, the sonH1121 of AmmihudH5991, kingH4428 of GeshurH1650. And David mournedH0056 for his sonH1121 every dayH3117. 38So AbsalomH0053 fledH1272, and wentH3212 to GeshurH1650, and was there threeH7969 yearsH8141. 39And the soul of kingH4428 DavidH1732 longedH3615 to go forthH3318 unto AbsalomH0053: for he was comfortedH5162 concerning AmnonH0550, seeing he was deadH4191.

2 Samuel: Chapter 14

1Now JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 perceivedH3045 that the kingsH4428 heartH3820 was toward AbsalomH0053. 2And JoabH3097 sentH7971 to TekoahH8620, and fetchedH3947 thence a wiseH2450 womanH0802, and saidH0559 unto her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mournerH0056, and put onH3847 now mourningH0060 apparelH0899, and anointH5480 not thyself with oilH8081, but be as a womanH0802 that had a longH7227 timeH3117 mournedH0056 for the deadH4191: 3And comeH0935 to the kingH4428, and speakH1696 on this mannerH1697 unto him. So JoabH3097 putH7760 the wordsH1697 in her mouthH6310.

4And when the womanH0802 of TekoahH8621 spakeH0559 to the kingH4428, she fellH5307 on her faceH0639 to the groundH0776, and did obeisanceH7812, and saidH0559, HelpH3467, O kingH4428. 5And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto her, What aileth thee? And she answeredH0559, I am indeedH0061 a widowH0490 womanH0802, and mine husbandH0376 is deadH4191. 6And thy handmaidH8198 had twoH8147 sonsH1121, and they twoH8147 strove togetherH5327 in the fieldH7704, and there was none to partH5337 them, but the oneH0259 smoteH5221 the otherH0259, and slewH4191 him. 7And, behold, the whole familyH4940 is risenH6965 against thine handmaidH8198, and they saidH0559, DeliverH5414 him that smoteH5221 his brotherH0251, that we may killH4191 him, for the lifeH5315 of his brotherH0251 whom he slewH2026; and we will destroyH8045 the heirH3423 also: and so they shall quenchH3518 my coalH1513 which is leftH7760, and shall not leaveH7604 to my husbandH0376 neither nameH8034 nor remainderH7611 uponH6440 the earthH0127. 8And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto the womanH0802, GoH3212 to thine houseH1004, and I will give chargeH6680 concerning thee. 9And the womanH0802 of TekoahH8621 saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, My lordH0113, O kingH4428, the iniquityH5771 be on me, and on my fathersH0001 houseH1004: and the kingH4428 and his throneH3678 be guiltlessH5355. 10And the kingH4428 saidH0559, Whosoever saithH1696 ought unto thee, bringH0935 him to me, and he shall not touchH5060 thee any moreH3254. 11Then saidH0559 she, I pray thee, let the kingH4428 rememberH2142 the LORDH3068 thy GodH0430, that thou wouldest not suffer the revengersH1350 of bloodH1818 to destroyH7843 any moreH7235, lest they destroyH8045 my sonH1121. And he saidH0559, As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, there shall not one hairH8185 of thy sonH1121 fallH5307 to the earthH0776. 12Then the womanH0802 saidH0559, Let thine handmaidH8198, I pray thee, speakH1696 one wordH1697 unto my lordH0113 the kingH4428. And he saidH0559, Say onH1696. 13And the womanH0802 saidH0559, Wherefore then hast thou thoughtH2803 such a thing against the peopleH5971 of GodH0430? for the kingH4428 doth speakH1696 this thingH1697 as one which is faultyH0818, in that the kingH4428 doth not fetch home againH7725 his banishedH5080. 14For we must needsH4191 dieH4191, and are as waterH4325 spiltH5064 on the groundH0776, which cannot be gathered up againH0622; neither doth GodH0430 respectH5375 any personH5315: yet doth he deviseH2803 meansH4284, that his banishedH5080 be not expelledH5080 from him. 15Now therefore that I am comeH0935 to speakH1696 of this thingH1697 unto my lordH0113 the kingH4428, it is because the peopleH5971 have made me afraidH3372: and thy handmaidH8198 saidH0559, I will now speakH1696 unto the kingH4428; it may be that the kingH4428 will performH6213 the requestH1697 of his handmaidH0519. 16For the kingH4428 will hearH8085, to deliverH5337 his handmaidH0519 out of the handH3709 of the manH0376 that would destroyH8045 me and my sonH1121 togetherH3162 out of the inheritanceH5159 of GodH0430. 17Then thine handmaidH8198 saidH0559, The wordH1697 of my lordH0113 the kingH4428 shall now be comfortableH4496: for as an angelH4397 of GodH0430, so is my lordH0113 the kingH4428 to discernH8085 goodH2896 and badH7451: therefore the LORDH3068 thy GodH0430 will be with thee. 18Then the kingH4428 answeredH6030 and saidH0559 unto the womanH0802, HideH3582 not from me, I pray thee, the thingH1697 that I shall askH7592 thee. And the womanH0802 saidH0559, Let my lordH0113 the kingH4428 now speakH1696. 19And the kingH4428 saidH0559, Is not the handH3027 of JoabH3097 with thee in all this? And the womanH0802 answeredH6030 and saidH0559, As thy soulH5315 livethH2416, my lordH0113 the kingH4428, noneH0376 canH0786 turn to the right handH3231 or to the leftH8041 from ought that my lordH0113 the kingH4428 hath spokenH1696: for thy servantH5650 JoabH3097, he badeH6680 me, and he putH7760 all these wordsH1697 in the mouthH6310 of thine handmaidH8198: 20ToH5668 fetch aboutH5437 this formH6440 of speechH1697 hath thy servantH5650 JoabH3097 doneH6213 this thingH1697: and my lordH0113 is wiseH2450, according to the wisdomH2451 of an angelH4397 of GodH0430, to knowH3045 all things that are in the earthH0776.

21And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto JoabH3097, Behold now, I have doneH6213 this thingH1697: goH3212 therefore, bringH7725 the young manH5288 AbsalomH0053 againH7725. 22And JoabH3097 fellH5307 to the groundH0776 on his faceH6440, and bowedH7812 himself, and thankedH1288 the kingH4428: and JoabH3097 saidH0559, To dayH3117 thy servantH5650 knowethH3045 that I have foundH4672 graceH2580 in thy sightH5869, my lordH0113, O kingH4428, in that the kingH4428 hath fulfilledH6213 the requestH1697 of his servantH5650. 23So JoabH3097 aroseH6965 and wentH3212 to GeshurH1650, and broughtH0935 AbsalomH0053 to JerusalemH3389. 24And the kingH4428 saidH0559, Let him turnH5437 to his own houseH1004, and let him not seeH7200 my faceH6440. So AbsalomH0053 returnedH5437 to his own houseH1004, and sawH7200 not the kingsH4428 faceH6440.

25But in all IsraelH3478 there was noneH0376 to be so muchH3966 praisedH1984 as AbsalomH0053 for his beautyH3303: from the soleH3709 of his footH7272 even to the crown of his headH6936 there was no blemishH3971 in him. 26And when he polledH1548 his headH7218, (for it was at every yearsH3117 endH7093 that he polledH1548 it: because the hair was heavyH3513 on him, therefore he polledH1548 it:) he weighedH8254 the hairH8181 of his headH7218 at two hundredH3967 shekelsH8255 after the kingsH4428 weightH0068. 27And unto AbsalomH0053 there were bornH3205 threeH7969 sonsH1121, and oneH0259 daughterH1323, whose nameH8034 was TamarH8559: she was a womanH0802 of a fairH3303 countenanceH4758.

28So AbsalomH0053 dweltH3427 two fullH3117 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389, and sawH7200 not the kingsH4428 faceH6440. 29Therefore AbsalomH0053 sentH7971 for JoabH3097, to have sentH7971 him to the kingH4428; but he wouldH0014 not comeH0935 to him: and when he sent againH7971 the second timeH8145, he wouldH0014 not comeH0935. 30Therefore he saidH0559 unto his servantsH5650, SeeH7200, JoabsH3097 fieldH2513 is nearH0413 mineH3027, and he hath barleyH8184 there; goH3212 and setH3341 it on fireH0784. And AbsalomsH0053 servantsH5650 setH3341 the fieldH2513 on fireH0784. 31Then JoabH3097 aroseH6965, and cameH0935 to AbsalomH0053 unto his houseH1004, and saidH0559 unto him, Wherefore have thy servantsH5650 setH3341 my fieldH2513 on fireH0784? 32And AbsalomH0053 answeredH0559 JoabH3097, Behold, I sentH7971 unto thee, sayingH0559, ComeH0935 hither, that I may sendH7971 thee to the kingH4428, to sayH0559, Wherefore am I comeH0935 from GeshurH1650? it had been goodH2896 for me to have been there still: now therefore let me seeH7200 the kingsH4428 faceH6440; and if there beH3426 any iniquityH5771 in me, let him killH4191 me. 33So JoabH3097 cameH0935 to the kingH4428, and toldH5046 him: and when he had calledH7121 for AbsalomH0053, he cameH0935 to the kingH4428, and bowedH7812 himself on his faceH0639 to the groundH0776 beforeH6440 the kingH4428: and the kingH4428 kissedH5401 AbsalomH0053.

2 Samuel: Chapter 15

1And it came to pass after thisH0310, that AbsalomH0053 preparedH6213 him chariotsH4818 and horsesH5483, and fiftyH2572 menH0376 to runH7323 beforeH6440 him. 2And AbsalomH0053 rose up earlyH7925, and stoodH5975 besideH3027 the wayH1870 of the gateH8179: and it was so , that when any manH0376 that had a controversyH7379 cameH0935 to the kingH4428 for judgmentH4941, then AbsalomH0053 calledH7121 unto him, and saidH0559, Of whatH0335 cityH5892 art thou? And he saidH0559, Thy servantH5650 is of oneH0259 of the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478. 3And AbsalomH0053 saidH0559 unto him, SeeH7200, thy mattersH1697 are goodH2896 and rightH5228; but there is no man deputed of the kingH4428 to hearH8085 thee. 4 AbsalomH0053 saidH0559 moreover, Oh that I were madeH7760 judgeH8199 in the landH0776, that every manH0376 which hath any suitH7379 or causeH4941 might comeH0935 unto me, and I would do him justiceH6663! 5And it was so , that when any manH0376 came nighH7126 to him to do him obeisanceH7812, he put forthH7971 his handH3027, and tookH2388 him, and kissedH5401 him. 6And on this mannerH1697 didH6213 AbsalomH0053 to all IsraelH3478 that cameH0935 to the kingH4428 for judgmentH4941: so AbsalomH0053 stoleH1589 the heartsH3820 of the menH0582 of IsraelH3478.

7And it came to pass afterH7093 fortyH0705 yearsH8141, that AbsalomH0053 saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, I pray thee, let me goH3212 and payH7999 my vowH5088, which I have vowedH5087 unto the LORDH3068, in HebronH2275. 8For thy servantH5650 vowedH5087 a vowH5088 while I abodeH3427 at GeshurH1650 in SyriaH0758, sayingH0559, If the LORDH3068 shall bring me againH7725 indeed to JerusalemH3389, then I will serveH5647 the LORDH3068. 9And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto him, GoH3212 in peaceH7965. So he aroseH6965, and wentH3212 to HebronH2275.

10But AbsalomH0053 sentH7971 spiesH7270 throughout all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, sayingH0559, As soon as ye hearH8085 the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782, then ye shall sayH0559, AbsalomH0053 reignethH4427 in HebronH2275. 11And with AbsalomH0053 wentH1980 two hundredH3967 menH0376 out of JerusalemH3389, that were calledH7121; and they wentH1980 in their simplicityH8537, and they knewH3045 not any thingH1697. 12And AbsalomH0053 sentH7971 for AhithophelH0302 the GiloniteH1526, DavidsH1732 counsellorH3289, from his cityH5892, even from GilohH1542, while he offeredH2076 sacrificesH2077. And the conspiracyH7195 was strongH0533; for the peopleH5971 increasedH7227 continuallyH1980 with AbsalomH0053.

13And there cameH0935 a messengerH5046 to DavidH1732, sayingH0559, The heartsH3820 of the menH0376 of IsraelH3478 are afterH0310 AbsalomH0053. 14And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto all his servantsH5650 that were with him at JerusalemH3389, AriseH6965, and let us fleeH1272; for we shall not else escapeH6413 fromH6440 AbsalomH0053: make speedH4116 to departH3212, lest he overtakeH5381 us suddenlyH4116, and bringH5080 evilH7451 upon us, and smiteH5221 the cityH5892 with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719. 15And the kingsH4428 servantsH5650 saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, Behold, thy servantsH5650 are ready to do whatsoever my lordH0113 the kingH4428 shall appointH0977. 16And the kingH4428 went forthH3318, and all his householdH1004 afterH7272 him. And the kingH4428 leftH5800 tenH6235 womenH0802, which were concubinesH6370, to keepH8104 the houseH1004. 17And the kingH4428 went forthH3318, and all the peopleH5971 afterH7272 him, and tarriedH5975 in a placeH1004 that was far offH4801. 18And all his servantsH5650 passed onH5674 besideH3027 him; and all the CherethitesH3774, and all the PelethitesH6432, and all the GittitesH1663, sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH0376 which cameH0935 afterH7272 him from GathH1661, passed onH5674 beforeH6440 the kingH4428.

19Then saidH0559 the kingH4428 to IttaiH0863 the GittiteH1663, Wherefore goestH3212 thou also with us? returnH7725 to thy placeH4725, and abideH3427 with the kingH4428: for thou art a strangerH5237, and also an exileH1540. 20Whereas thou camestH0935 but yesterdayH8543, should I this dayH3117 make thee goH3212 up and downH5128 with us? seeing I goH1980 whither I may, returnH7725 thou, and take backH7725 thy brethrenH0251: mercyH2617 and truthH0571 be with thee. 21And IttaiH0863 answeredH6030 the kingH4428, and saidH0559, As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, and as my lordH0113 the kingH4428 livethH2416, surely in what placeH4725 my lordH0113 the kingH4428 shall be, whether in deathH4194 or lifeH2416, even there also will thy servantH5650 be. 22And DavidH1732 saidH0559 to IttaiH0863, GoH3212 and pass overH5674. And IttaiH0863 the GittiteH1663 passed overH5674, and all his menH0582, and all the little onesH2945 that were with him. 23And all the countryH0776 weptH1058 with a loudH1419 voiceH6963, and all the peopleH5971 passed overH5674: the kingH4428 also himself passed overH5674 the brookH5158 KidronH6939, and all the peopleH5971 passed overH5674, towardH6440 the wayH1870 of the wildernessH4057.

24And lo ZadokH6659 also, and all the LevitesH3881 were with him, bearingH5375 the arkH0727 of the covenantH1285 of GodH0430: and they set downH3332 the arkH0727 of GodH0430; and AbiatharH0054 went upH5927, until all the peopleH5971 had doneH8552 passingH5674 out of the cityH5892. 25And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto ZadokH6659, Carry backH7725 the arkH0727 of GodH0430 into the cityH5892: if I shall findH4672 favourH2580 in the eyesH5869 of the LORDH3068, he will bring me againH7725, and shewH7200 me both it, and his habitationH5116: 26But if he thus sayH0559, I have no delightH2654 in thee; behold, here am I, let him doH6213 to me as seemethH5869 goodH2896 unto him. 27The kingH4428 saidH0559 also unto ZadokH6659 the priestH3548, Art not thou a seerH7200? returnH7725 into the cityH5892 in peaceH7965, and your twoH8147 sonsH1121 with you, AhimaazH0290 thy sonH1121, and JonathanH3083 the sonH1121 of AbiatharH0054. 28SeeH7200, I will tarryH4102 in the plainH6160 of the wildernessH4057, until there comeH0935 wordH1697 from you to certifyH5046 me. 29 ZadokH6659 therefore and AbiatharH0054 carriedH7725 the arkH0727 of GodH0430 againH7725 to JerusalemH3389: and they tarriedH3427 there.

30And DavidH1732 went upH5927 by the ascentH4608 of mount OlivetH2132, and weptH1058 as he went upH5927, and had his headH7218 coveredH2645, and he wentH1980 barefootH3182: and all the peopleH5971 that was with him coveredH2645 every manH0376 his headH7218, and they went upH5927, weepingH1058 as they went upH5927.

31And one toldH5046 DavidH1732, sayingH0559, AhithophelH0302 is among the conspiratorsH7194 with AbsalomH0053. And DavidH1732 saidH0559, O LORDH3068, I pray thee, turn the counselH6098 of AhithophelH0302 into foolishnessH5528.

32And it came to pass, that when DavidH1732 was comeH0935 to the topH7218 of the mount , where he worshippedH7812 GodH0430, behold, HushaiH2365 the ArchiteH0757 came to meetH7125 him with his coatH3801 rentH7167, and earthH0127 upon his headH7218: 33Unto whom DavidH1732 saidH0559, If thou passest onH5674 with me, then thou shalt be a burdenH4853 unto me: 34But if thou returnH7725 to the cityH5892, and sayH0559 unto AbsalomH0053, I will be thy servantH5650, O kingH4428; as I have been thy fathersH0001 servantH5650 hithertoH0227, so will I now also be thy servantH5650: then mayest thou for me defeatH6565 the counselH6098 of AhithophelH0302. 35And hast thou not there with thee ZadokH6659 and AbiatharH0054 the priestsH3548? therefore it shall be, that what thingH1697 soever thou shalt hearH8085 out of the kingsH4428 houseH1004, thou shalt tellH5046 it to ZadokH6659 and AbiatharH0054 the priestsH3548. 36Behold, they have there with them their twoH8147 sonsH1121, AhimaazH0290 ZadoksH6659 son , and JonathanH3083 AbiatharsH0054 son; and by themH3027 ye shall sendH7971 unto me every thingH1697 that ye can hearH8085. 37So HushaiH2365 DavidsH1732 friendH7463 cameH0935 into the cityH5892, and AbsalomH0053 cameH0935 into JerusalemH3389.

2 Samuel: Chapter 16

1And when DavidH1732 was a littleH4592 pastH5674 the topH7218 of the hill , behold, ZibaH6717 the servantH5288 of MephiboshethH4648 metH7125 him, with a coupleH6776 of assesH2543 saddledH2280, and upon them two hundredH3967 loaves of breadH3899, and an hundredH3967 bunches of raisinsH6778, and an hundredH3967 of summer fruitsH7019, and a bottleH5035 of wineH3196. 2And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto ZibaH6717, What meanest thou by these? And ZibaH6717 saidH0559, The assesH2543 be for the kingsH4428 householdH1004 to ride onH7392; and the breadH3899 and summer fruitH7019 for the young menH5288 to eatH0398; and the wineH3196, that such as be faintH3287 in the wildernessH4057 may drinkH8354. 3And the kingH4428 saidH0559, And where is thy mastersH0113 sonH1121? And ZibaH6717 saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, Behold, he abidethH3427 at JerusalemH3389: for he saidH0559, To dayH3117 shall the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 restoreH7725 me the kingdomH4468 of my fatherH0001. 4Then saidH0559 the kingH4428 to ZibaH6717, Behold, thine are all that pertained unto MephiboshethH4648. And ZibaH6717 saidH0559, I humblyH7812 beseech thee that I may findH4672 graceH2580 in thy sightH5869, my lordH0113, O kingH4428.

5And when kingH4428 DavidH1732 cameH0935 to BahurimH0980, behold, thence came outH3318 a manH0376 of the familyH4940 of the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, whose nameH8034 was ShimeiH8096, the sonH1121 of GeraH1617: he came forthH3318, and cursedH7043 still as he cameH3318. 6And he castH5619 stonesH0068 at DavidH1732, and at all the servantsH5650 of kingH4428 DavidH1732: and all the peopleH5971 and all the mighty menH1368 were on his right handH3225 and on his leftH8040. 7And thus saidH0559 ShimeiH8096 when he cursedH7043, Come outH3318, come outH3318, thou bloodyH1818 manH0376, and thou manH0376 of BelialH1100: 8The LORDH3068 hath returnedH7725 upon thee all the bloodH1818 of the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, in whose stead thou hast reignedH4427; and the LORDH3068 hath deliveredH5414 the kingdomH4410 into the handH3027 of AbsalomH0053 thy sonH1121: and, behold, thou art taken in thy mischiefH7451, because thou art a bloodyH1818 manH0376.

9Then saidH0559 AbishaiH0052 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 unto the kingH4428, Why should this deadH4191 dogH3611 curseH7043 my lordH0113 the kingH4428? let me go overH5674, I pray thee, and take offH5493 his headH7218. 10And the kingH4428 saidH0559, What have I to do with you, ye sonsH1121 of ZeruiahH6870? so let him curseH7043, because the LORDH3068 hath saidH0559 unto him, CurseH7043 DavidH1732. Who shall then sayH0559, Wherefore hast thou done soH6213? 11And DavidH1732 saidH0559 to AbishaiH0052, and to all his servantsH5650, Behold, my sonH1121, which came forthH3318 of my bowelsH4578, seekethH1245 my lifeH5315: how much more now may this BenjamiteH1145 do it ? let him aloneH3240, and let him curseH7043; for the LORDH3068 hath biddenH0559 him. 12It may be that the LORDH3068 will lookH7200 on mine afflictionH5869, and that the LORDH3068 will requiteH7725 me goodH2896 for his cursingH7045 this dayH3117. 13And as DavidH1732 and his menH0582 wentH3212 by the wayH1870, ShimeiH8096 went alongH1980 on the hillsH2022 sideH6763 over againstH5980 him, and cursedH7043 as he wentH1980, and threwH5619 stonesH0068 atH5980 him, and castH6080 dustH6083. 14And the kingH4428, and all the peopleH5971 that were with him, cameH0935 wearyH5889, and refreshedH5314 themselves there.

15And AbsalomH0053, and all the peopleH5971 the menH0376 of IsraelH3478, cameH0935 to JerusalemH3389, and AhithophelH0302 with him. 16And it came to pass, when HushaiH2365 the ArchiteH0757, DavidsH1732 friendH7463, was comeH0935 unto AbsalomH0053, that HushaiH2365 saidH0559 unto AbsalomH0053, God saveH2421 the kingH4428, God saveH2421 the kingH4428. 17And AbsalomH0053 saidH0559 to HushaiH2365, Is this thy kindnessH2617 to thy friendH7453? why wentestH1980 thou not with thy friendH7453? 18And HushaiH2365 saidH0559 unto AbsalomH0053, Nay; but whom the LORDH3068, and this peopleH5971, and all the menH0376 of IsraelH3478, chooseH0977, his will I be, and with him will I abideH3427. 19And againH8145, whom should I serveH5647? should I not serve in the presenceH6440 of his sonH1121? as I have servedH5647 in thy fathersH0001 presenceH6440, so will I be in thy presenceH6440.

20Then saidH0559 AbsalomH0053 to AhithophelH0302, GiveH3051 counselH6098 among you what we shall doH6213. 21And AhithophelH0302 saidH0559 unto AbsalomH0053, Go inH0935 unto thy fathersH0001 concubinesH6370, which he hath leftH3240 to keepH8104 the houseH1004; and all IsraelH3478 shall hearH8085 that thou art abhorredH0887 of thy fatherH0001: then shall the handsH3027 of all that are with thee be strongH2388. 22So they spreadH5186 AbsalomH0053 a tentH0168 upon the top of the houseH1406; and AbsalomH0053 went inH0935 unto his fathersH0001 concubinesH6370 in the sightH5869 of all IsraelH3478. 23And the counselH6098 of AhithophelH0302, which he counselledH3289 in those daysH3117, was as if a manH0376 had enquiredH7592 at the oracleH1697 of GodH0430: so was all the counselH6098 of AhithophelH0302 both with DavidH1732 and with AbsalomH0053.

2 Samuel: Chapter 17

1Moreover AhithophelH0302 saidH0559 unto AbsalomH0053, Let me now choose outH0977 twelveH8147 thousandH0505 menH0376, and I will ariseH6965 and pursueH7291 afterH0310 DavidH1732 this nightH3915: 2And I will comeH0935 upon him while he is wearyH3023 and weakH7504 handedH3027, and will make him afraidH2729: and all the peopleH5971 that are with him shall fleeH5127; and I will smiteH5221 the kingH4428 only: 3And I will bring backH7725 all the peopleH5971 unto thee: the manH0376 whom thou seekestH1245 is as if all returnedH7725: so all the peopleH5971 shall be in peaceH7965. 4And the sayingH1697 pleasedH3474 AbsalomH0053 wellH5869, and all the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478. 5Then saidH0559 AbsalomH0053, CallH7121 now HushaiH2365 the ArchiteH0757 also, and let us hearH8085 likewise what he saithH6310. 6And when HushaiH2365 was comeH0935 to AbsalomH0053, AbsalomH0053 spakeH0559 unto him, sayingH0559, AhithophelH0302 hath spokenH1696 after this mannerH1697: shall we doH6213 after his sayingH1697? if not; speakH1696 thou. 7And HushaiH2365 saidH0559 unto AbsalomH0053, The counselH6098 that AhithophelH0302 hath givenH3289 is not goodH2896 at this timeH6471. 8For, saidH0559 HushaiH2365, thou knowestH3045 thy fatherH0001 and his menH0582, that they be mighty menH1368, and they be chafedH4751 in their mindsH5315, as a bearH1677 robbedH7909 of her whelps in the fieldH7704: and thy fatherH0001 is a manH0376 of warH4421, and will not lodgeH3885 with the peopleH5971. 9Behold, he is hidH2244 now in someH0259 pitH6354, or in someH0259 other placeH4725: and it will come to pass, when some of them be overthrownH5307 at the firstH8462, that whosoeverH8085 hearethH8085 it will sayH0559, There is a slaughterH4046 among the peopleH5971 that followH0310 AbsalomH0053. 10And he also that is valiantH1121, whose heartH3820 is as the heartH3820 of a lionH0738, shall utterlyH4549 meltH4549: for all IsraelH3478 knowethH3045 that thy fatherH0001 is a mighty manH1368, and they which be with him are valiantH2428 menH1121. 11Therefore I counselH3289 that all IsraelH3478 be generallyH0622 gatheredH0622 unto thee, from DanH1835 even to Beer-shebaH0884, as the sandH2344 that is by the seaH3220 for multitudeH7230; and that thou goH1980 to battleH7128 in thine own personH6440. 12So shall we comeH0935 upon him in someH0259 placeH4725 where he shall be foundH4672, and we will lightH5168 upon him as the dewH2919 fallethH5307 on the groundH0127: and of him and of all the menH0582 that are with him there shall not be leftH3498 so much asH1571 oneH0259. 13Moreover, ifH0518 he be gottenH0622 into a cityH5892, then shall all IsraelH3478 bringH5375 ropesH2256 to that cityH5892, and we will drawH5498 it into the riverH5158, until there be not oneH1571 small stoneH6872 foundH4672 there. 14And AbsalomH0053 and all the menH0376 of IsraelH3478 saidH0559, The counselH6098 of HushaiH2365 the ArchiteH0757 is betterH2896 than the counselH6098 of AhithophelH0302. For the LORDH3068 had appointedH6680 to defeatH6565 the goodH2896 counselH6098 of AhithophelH0302, to the intentH5668 that the LORDH3068 might bringH0935 evilH7451 upon AbsalomH0053.

15Then saidH0559 HushaiH2365 unto ZadokH6659 and to AbiatharH0054 the priestsH3548, Thus and thus did AhithophelH0302 counselH3289 AbsalomH0053 and the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478; and thus and thus have I counselledH3289. 16Now therefore sendH7971 quicklyH4120, and tellH5046 DavidH1732, sayingH0559, LodgeH3885 not this nightH3915 in the plainsH6160 of the wildernessH4057, but speedilyH5674 pass overH5674; lest the kingH4428 be swallowed upH1104, and all the peopleH5971 that are with him. 17Now JonathanH3083 and AhimaazH0290 stayedH5975 by En-rogelH5883; for they mightH3201 not be seenH7200 to comeH0935 into the cityH5892: and a wenchH8198 wentH1980 and toldH5046 them; and they wentH3212 and toldH5046 kingH4428 DavidH1732. 18Nevertheless a ladH5288 sawH7200 them, and toldH5046 AbsalomH0053: but they wentH3212 bothH8147 of them away quicklyH4120, and cameH0935 to a mansH0376 houseH1004 in BahurimH0980, which had a wellH0875 in his courtH2691; whitherH8033 they went downH3381. 19And the womanH0802 tookH3947 and spreadH6566 a coveringH4539 over the wellsH0875 mouthH6440, and spreadH7849 ground cornH7383 thereon; and the thingH1697 was not knownH3045. 20And when AbsalomsH0053 servantsH5650 cameH0935 to the womanH0802 to the houseH1004, they saidH0559, Where is AhimaazH0290 and JonathanH3083? And the womanH0802 saidH0559 unto them, They be gone overH5674 the brookH4323 of waterH4325. And when they had soughtH1245 and could not findH4672 them , they returnedH7725 to JerusalemH3389. 21And it came to pass, afterH0310 they were departedH3212, that they came upH5927 out of the wellH0875, and wentH3212 and toldH5046 kingH4428 DavidH1732, and saidH0559 unto DavidH1732, AriseH6965, and pass quicklyH4120 overH5674 the waterH4325: for thus hath AhithophelH0302 counselledH3289 against you.

22Then DavidH1732 aroseH6965, and all the peopleH5971 that were with him, and they passed overH5674 JordanH3383: by the morningH1242 lightH0216 there lackedH5737 not oneH0259 of them that was not gone overH5674 JordanH3383.

23And when AhithophelH0302 sawH7200 that his counselH6098 was not followedH6213, he saddledH2280 his assH2543, and aroseH6965, and gat him homeH3212 to his houseH1004, to his cityH5892, and put his householdH1004 in orderH6680, and hangedH2614 himself, and diedH4191, and was buriedH6912 in the sepulchreH6913 of his fatherH0001. 24Then DavidH1732 cameH0935 to MahanaimH4266. And AbsalomH0053 passed overH5674 JordanH3383, he and all the menH0376 of IsraelH3478 with him.

25And AbsalomH0053 madeH7760 AmasaH6021 captain of the hostH6635 instead of JoabH3097: which AmasaH6021 was a mansH0376 sonH1121, whose nameH8034 was IthraH3501 an IsraeliteH3481, that went inH0935 to AbigailH0026 the daughterH1323 of NahashH5176, sisterH0269 to ZeruiahH6870 JoabsH3097 motherH0517. 26So IsraelH3478 and AbsalomH0053 pitchedH2583 in the landH0776 of GileadH1568.

27And it came to pass, when DavidH1732 was comeH0935 to MahanaimH4266, that ShobiH7629 the sonH1121 of NahashH5176 of RabbahH7237 of the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983, and MachirH4353 the sonH1121 of AmmielH5988 of Lo-debarH3810, and BarzillaiH1271 the GileaditeH1569 of RogelimH7274, 28BroughtH5066 bedsH4904, and basonsH5592, and earthenH3335 vesselsH3627, and wheatH2406, and barleyH8184, and flourH7058, and parchedH7039 corn , and beansH6321, and lentilesH5742, and parchedH7039 pulse , 29And honeyH1706, and butterH2529, and sheepH6629, and cheeseH8194 of kineH1241, for DavidH1732, and for the peopleH5971 that were with him, to eatH0398: for they saidH0559, The peopleH5971 is hungryH7457, and wearyH5889, and thirstyH6771, in the wildernessH4057.

2 Samuel: Chapter 18

1And DavidH1732 numberedH6485 the peopleH5971 that were with him, and setH7760 captainsH8269 of thousandsH0505 and captainsH8269 of hundredsH3967 over them. 2And DavidH1732 sent forthH7971 a third partH7992 of the peopleH5971 under the handH3027 of JoabH3097, and a third partH7992 under the handH3027 of AbishaiH0052 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870, JoabsH3097 brotherH0251, and a third partH7992 under the handH3027 of IttaiH0863 the GittiteH1663. And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto the peopleH5971, I will surelyH3318 go forthH3318 with you myselfH0589 also. 3But the peopleH5971 answeredH0559, Thou shalt not go forthH3318: for if we fleeH5127 awayH5127, they will not careH7760 for us; neither if halfH2677 of us dieH4191, will they careH7760 for us: but now thou art worthH3644 tenH6235 thousandH0505 of us: therefore now it is betterH2896 that thou succourH5826 us out of the cityH5892. 4And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto them, What seemethH5869 you bestH3190 I will doH6213. And the kingH4428 stoodH5975 by the gateH8179 sideH3027, and all the peopleH5971 came outH3318 by hundredsH3967 and by thousandsH0505. 5And the kingH4428 commandedH6680 JoabH3097 and AbishaiH0052 and IttaiH0863, sayingH0559, Deal gentlyH0328 for my sake with the young manH5288, even with AbsalomH0053. And all the peopleH5971 heardH8085 when the kingH4428 gave all the captainsH8269 chargeH6680 concerningH1697 AbsalomH0053.

6So the peopleH5971 went outH3318 into the fieldH7704 againstH7125 IsraelH3478: and the battleH4421 was in the woodH3293 of EphraimH0669; 7Where the peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478 were slainH5062 beforeH6440 the servantsH5650 of DavidH1732, and there was there a greatH1419 slaughterH4046 that dayH3117 of twentyH6242 thousandH0505 men . 8For the battleH4421 was there scatteredH6327 over the faceH6440 of all the countryH0776: and the woodH3293 devouredH0398 moreH7235 peopleH5971 that dayH3117 than the swordH2719 devouredH0398.

9And AbsalomH0053 metH7122 the servantsH6440 of DavidH1732. And AbsalomH0053 rodeH7392 upon a muleH6505, and the muleH6505 wentH0935 under the thick boughsH7730 of a greatH1419 oakH0424, and his headH7218 caught holdH2388 of the oakH0424, and he was taken upH5414 between the heavenH8064 and the earthH0776; and the muleH6505 that was under him went awayH5674. 10And a certainH0259 manH0376 sawH7200 it , and toldH5046 JoabH3097, and saidH0559, Behold, I sawH7200 AbsalomH0053 hangedH8518 in an oakH0424. 11And JoabH3097 saidH0559 unto the manH0376 that toldH5046 him, And, behold, thou sawestH7200 him , and why didst thou not smiteH5221 him there to the groundH0776? and I would have givenH5414 thee tenH6235 shekels of silverH3701, and aH0259 girdleH2290. 12And the manH0376 saidH0559 unto JoabH3097, ThoughH3863 I should receiveH8254 a thousandH0505 shekels of silverH3701 in mine handH3709, yet would I not put forthH7971 mine handH3027 against the kingsH4428 sonH1121: for in our hearingH0241 the kingH4428 chargedH6680 thee and AbishaiH0052 and IttaiH0863, sayingH0559, BewareH8104 that none touch the young manH5288 AbsalomH0053. 13OtherwiseH0176 I should have wroughtH6213 falsehoodH8267 against mine own lifeH5315: for there is no matterH1697 hidH3582 from the kingH4428, and thou thyself wouldest have setH3320 thyself against me . 14Then saidH0559 JoabH3097, I may not tarryH3176 thus with theeH6440. And he tookH3947 threeH7969 dartsH7626 in his handH3709, and thrustH8628 them through the heartH3820 of AbsalomH0053, while he was yet aliveH2416 in the midst of the oakH0424. 15And tenH6235 young menH5288 that bareH5375 JoabsH3097 armourH3627 compassed aboutH5437 and smoteH5221 AbsalomH0053, and slewH4191 him. 16And JoabH3097 blewH8628 the trumpetH7782, and the peopleH5971 returnedH7725 from pursuingH7291 afterH0310 IsraelH3478: for JoabH3097 held backH2820 the peopleH5971. 17And they tookH3947 AbsalomH0053, and castH7993 him into a greatH1419 pitH6354 in the woodH3293, and laidH5324 a veryH3966 greatH1419 heapH1530 of stonesH0068 upon him: and all IsraelH3478 fledH5127 every oneH0376 to his tentH0168.

18Now AbsalomH0053 in his lifetimeH2416 had takenH3947 and reared upH5324 for himself a pillarH4678, which is in the kingsH4428 daleH6010: for he saidH0559, I have no sonH1121 to keep my nameH8034 in remembranceH2142: and he calledH7121 the pillarH4678 after his own nameH8034: and it is calledH7121 unto this dayH3117, AbsalomsH0053 placeH3027.

19Then saidH0559 AhimaazH0290 the sonH1121 of ZadokH6659, Let me now runH7323, and bearH1319 the kingH4428 tidingsH1319, how that the LORDH3068 hath avengedH8199 him of his enemiesH3027. 20And JoabH3097 saidH0559 unto him, ThouH0376 shalt not bear tidingsH1309 this dayH3117, but thou shalt bear tidingsH1319 anotherH0312 dayH3117: but this dayH3117 thou shalt bear no tidingsH1319, because the kingsH4428 sonH1121 is deadH4191. 21Then saidH0559 JoabH3097 to CushiH3569, GoH3212 tellH5046 the kingH4428 what thou hast seenH7200. And CushiH3569 bowedH7812 himself unto JoabH3097, and ranH7323. 22Then saidH0559 AhimaazH0290 the sonH1121 of ZadokH6659 yet againH3254 to JoabH3097, But howsoeverH4100, let me, I pray thee, also runH7323 afterH0310 CushiH3569. And JoabH3097 saidH0559, Wherefore wilt thou runH7323, my sonH1121, seeing that thou hast no tidingsH1309 readyH4672? 23But howsoever, said he , let me runH7323. And he saidH0559 unto him, RunH7323. Then AhimaazH0290 ranH7323 by the wayH1870 of the plainH3603, and overranH5674 CushiH3569. 24And DavidH1732 satH3427 between the twoH8147 gatesH8179: and the watchmanH6822 went upH3212 to the roofH1406 over the gateH8179 unto the wallH2346, and lifted upH5375 his eyesH5869, and lookedH7200, and behold a manH0376 runningH7323 alone. 25And the watchmanH6822 criedH7121, and toldH5046 the kingH4428. And the kingH4428 saidH0559, If he be alone, there is tidingsH1309 in his mouthH6310. And he cameH3212 apaceH1980, and drew nearH7131. 26And the watchmanH6822 sawH7200 anotherH0312 manH0376 runningH7323: and the watchmanH6822 calledH7121 unto the porterH7778, and saidH0559, Behold another manH0376 runningH7323 alone. And the kingH4428 saidH0559, He also bringeth tidingsH1319. 27And the watchmanH6822 saidH0559, Me thinkethH7200 the runningH4794 of the foremostH7223 is like the runningH4794 of AhimaazH0290 the sonH1121 of ZadokH6659. And the kingH4428 saidH0559, He is a goodH2896 manH0376, and comethH0935 with goodH2896 tidingsH1309. 28And AhimaazH0290 calledH7121, and saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, All is wellH7965. And he fell downH7812 to the earthH0776 upon his faceH0639 before the kingH4428, and saidH0559, BlessedH1288 be the LORDH3068 thy GodH0430, which hath delivered upH5462 the menH0582 that lifted upH5375 their handH3027 against my lordH0113 the kingH4428. 29And the kingH4428 saidH0559, Is the young manH5288 AbsalomH0053 safeH7965? And AhimaazH0290 answeredH0559, When JoabH3097 sentH7971 the kingsH4428 servantH5650, and me thy servantH5650, I sawH7200 a greatH1419 tumultH1995, but I knewH3045 not what it was . 30And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto him , Turn asideH5437, and standH3320 hereH3541. And he turned asideH5437, and stood stillH5975. 31And, behold, CushiH3569 cameH0935; and CushiH3569 saidH0559, TidingsH1319, my lordH0113 the kingH4428: for the LORDH3068 hath avengedH8199 thee this dayH3117 of all themH3027 that rose upH6965 against thee. 32And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto CushiH3569, Is the young manH5288 AbsalomH0053 safeH7965? And CushiH3569 answeredH0559, The enemiesH0341 of my lordH0113 the kingH4428, and all that riseH6965 against thee to do thee hurtH7451, be as that young manH5288 is .

33And the kingH4428 was much movedH7264, and went upH5927 to the chamberH5944 over the gateH8179, and weptH1058: and as he wentH3212, thus he saidH0559, O my sonH1121 AbsalomH0053, my sonH1121, my sonH1121 AbsalomH0053! would God I had diedH4191 for theeH5414, O AbsalomH0053, my sonH1121, my sonH1121!

2 Samuel: Chapter 19

1And it was toldH5046 JoabH3097, Behold, the kingH4428 weepethH1058 and mournethH0056 for AbsalomH0053. 2And the victoryH8668 that dayH3117 was turned into mourningH0060 unto all the peopleH5971: for the peopleH5971 heardH8085 sayH0559 that dayH3117 how the kingH4428 was grievedH6087 for his sonH1121. 3And the peopleH5971 gatH0935 them by stealthH1589 that dayH3117 into the cityH5892, as peopleH5971 being ashamedH3637 steal awayH1589 when they fleeH5127 in battleH4421. 4But the kingH4428 coveredH3813 his faceH6440, and the kingH4428 criedH2199 with a loudH1419 voiceH6963, O my sonH1121 AbsalomH0053, O AbsalomH0053, my sonH1121, my sonH1121! 5And JoabH3097 cameH0935 into the houseH1004 to the kingH4428, and saidH0559, Thou hast shamedH3001 this dayH3117 the facesH6440 of all thy servantsH5650, which this dayH3117 have savedH4422 thy lifeH5315, and the livesH5315 of thy sonsH1121 and of thy daughtersH1323, and the livesH5315 of thy wivesH0802, and the livesH5315 of thy concubinesH6370; 6In that thou lovestH0157 thine enemiesH8130, and hatestH8130 thy friendsH0157. For thou hast declaredH5046 this dayH3117, that thou regardest neither princesH8269 nor servantsH5650: for this dayH3117 I perceiveH3045, that ifH3863 AbsalomH0053 had livedH2416, and all we had diedH4191 this dayH3117, then it had pleased thee wellH3477. 7Now therefore ariseH6965, go forthH3318, and speakH1696 comfortablyH3820 unto thy servantsH5650: for I swearH7650 by the LORDH3068, if thou go not forthH3318, there will not tarryH3885 oneH0376 with thee this nightH3915: and that will be worseH7489 unto thee than all the evilH7451 that befellH0935 thee from thy youthH5271 until now. 8Then the kingH4428 aroseH6965, and satH3427 in the gateH8179. And they toldH5046 unto all the peopleH5971, sayingH0559, Behold, the kingH4428 doth sitH3427 in the gateH8179. And all the peopleH5971 cameH0935 beforeH6440 the kingH4428: for IsraelH3478 had fledH5127 every manH0376 to his tentH0168.

9And all the peopleH5971 were at strifeH1777 throughout all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, sayingH0559, The kingH4428 savedH5337 us out of the handH3709 of our enemiesH0341, and he deliveredH4422 us out of the handH3709 of the PhilistinesH6430; and now he is fledH1272 out of the landH0776 for AbsalomH0053. 10And AbsalomH0053, whom we anointedH4886 over us, is deadH4191 in battleH4421. Now therefore why speakH2790 ye not a word of bringingH7725 the kingH4428 backH7725?

11And kingH4428 DavidH1732 sentH7971 to ZadokH6659 and to AbiatharH0054 the priestsH3548, sayingH0559, SpeakH1696 unto the eldersH2205 of JudahH3063, sayingH0559, Why are ye the lastH0314 to bringH7725 the kingH4428 backH7725 to his houseH1004? seeing the speechH1697 of all IsraelH3478 is comeH0935 to the kingH4428, even to his houseH1004. 12Ye are my brethrenH0251, ye are my bonesH6106 and my fleshH1320: wherefore then are ye the lastH0314 to bring backH7725 the kingH4428? 13And sayH0559 ye to AmasaH6021, Art thou not of my boneH6106, and of my fleshH1320? GodH0430 doH6213 so to me, and moreH3254 also, if thou be not captainH8269 of the hostH6635 beforeH6440 me continuallyH3117 in the roomH8478 of JoabH3097. 14And he bowedH5186 the heartH3824 of all the menH0376 of JudahH3063, even as the heart of oneH0259 manH0376; so that they sentH7971 this word unto the kingH4428, ReturnH7725 thou, and all thy servantsH5650. 15So the kingH4428 returnedH7725, and cameH0935 to JordanH3383. And JudahH3063 cameH0935 to GilgalH1537, to goH3212 to meetH7125 the kingH4428, to conductH5674 the kingH4428 overH5674 JordanH3383.

16And ShimeiH8096 the sonH1121 of GeraH1617, a BenjamiteH1145, which was of BahurimH0980, hastedH4116 and came downH3381 with the menH0376 of JudahH3063 to meetH7125 kingH4428 DavidH1732. 17And there were a thousandH0505 menH0376 of BenjaminH1145 with him, and ZibaH6717 the servantH5288 of the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, and his fifteenH2568 sonsH1121 and his twentyH6242 servantsH5650 with him; and they went overH6743 JordanH3383 beforeH6440 the kingH4428. 18And there went overH5674 a ferry boatH5679 to carry overH5674 the kingsH4428 householdH1004, and to doH6213 what he thoughtH5869 goodH2896. And ShimeiH8096 the sonH1121 of GeraH1617 fell downH5307 beforeH6440 the kingH4428, as he was come overH5674 JordanH3383; 19And saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, Let not my lordH0113 imputeH2803 iniquityH5771 unto me, neither do thou rememberH2142 that which thy servantH5650 did perverselyH5753 the dayH3117 that my lordH0113 the kingH4428 went outH3318 of JerusalemH3389, that the kingH4428 should takeH7760 it to his heartH3820. 20For thy servantH5650 doth knowH3045 that I have sinnedH2398: therefore, behold, I am comeH0935 the firstH7223 this dayH3117 of all the houseH1004 of JosephH3130 to go downH3381 to meetH7125 my lordH0113 the kingH4428. 21But AbishaiH0052 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 answeredH6030 and saidH0559, Shall not ShimeiH8096 be put to deathH4191 for this, because he cursedH7043 the LORDsH3068 anointedH4899? 22And DavidH1732 saidH0559, What have I to do with you, ye sonsH1121 of ZeruiahH6870, that ye should this dayH3117 be adversariesH7854 unto me? shall there any manH0376 be put to deathH4191 this dayH3117 in IsraelH3478? for do not I knowH3045 that I am this dayH3117 kingH4428 over IsraelH3478? 23Therefore the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto ShimeiH8096, Thou shalt not dieH4191. And the kingH4428 swareH7650 unto him.

24And MephiboshethH4648 the sonH1121 of SaulH7586 came downH3381 to meetH7125 the kingH4428, and had neitherH3808 dressedH6213 his feetH7272, nor trimmedH6213 his beardH8222, nor washedH3526 his clothesH0899, from the dayH3117 the kingH4428 departedH3212 until the dayH3117 he cameH0935 again in peaceH7965. 25And it came to pass, when he was comeH0935 to JerusalemH3389 to meetH7125 the kingH4428, that the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto him, Wherefore wentestH1980 not thou with me, MephiboshethH4648? 26And he answeredH0559, My lordH0113, O kingH4428, my servantH5650 deceivedH7411 me: for thy servantH5650 saidH0559, I will saddleH2280 me an assH2543, that I may rideH7392 thereon, and goH3212 to the kingH4428; because thy servantH5650 is lameH6455. 27And he hath slanderedH7270 thy servantH5650 unto my lordH0113 the kingH4428; but my lordH0113 the kingH4428 is as an angelH4397 of GodH0430: doH6213 therefore what is goodH2896 in thine eyesH5869. 28For all of my fathersH0001 houseH1004 were butH3808 deadH4194 menH0582 before my lordH0113 the kingH4428: yet didst thou setH7896 thy servantH5650 among them that did eatH0398 at thine own tableH7979. What rightH6666 therefore haveH3426 I yet to cryH2199 any more unto the kingH4428? 29And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto him, Why speakestH1696 thou any more of thy mattersH1697? I have saidH0559, Thou and ZibaH6717 divideH2505 the landH7704. 30And MephiboshethH4648 saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, Yea, let him takeH3947 all, forasmuchH0310 asH0834 my lordH0113 the kingH4428 is come againH0935 in peaceH7965 unto his own houseH1004.

31And BarzillaiH1271 the GileaditeH1569 came downH3381 from RogelimH7274, and went overH5674 JordanH3383 with the kingH4428, to conductH7971 him over JordanH3383. 32Now BarzillaiH1271 was a veryH3966 agedH2204 man, even fourscoreH8084 yearsH8141 oldH1121: and he had provided the kingH4428 of sustenanceH3557 while he layH7871 at MahanaimH4266; for he was a veryH3966 greatH1419 manH0376. 33And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto BarzillaiH1271, Come thou overH5674 with me, and I will feedH3557 thee with me in JerusalemH3389. 34And BarzillaiH1271 saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, How longH3117 have I to liveH8141, that I should go upH5927 with the kingH4428 unto JerusalemH3389? 35I am this dayH3117 fourscoreH8084 yearsH8141 oldH1121: and can I discernH3045 between goodH2896 and evilH7451? can thy servantH5650 tasteH2938 whatH0834 I eatH0398 or whatH0834 I drinkH8354? can I hearH8085 any more the voiceH6963 of singing menH7891 and singing womenH7891? wherefore then should thy servantH5650 be yet a burdenH4853 unto my lordH0113 the kingH4428? 36Thy servantH5650 will goH5674 a little wayH4592 overH5674 JordanH3383 with the kingH4428: and why should the kingH4428 recompenseH1580 it me with such a rewardH1578? 37Let thy servantH5650, I pray thee, turn back againH7725, that I may dieH4191 in mine own cityH5892, and be buried by the graveH6913 of my fatherH0001 and of my motherH0517. But behold thy servantH5650 ChimhamH3643; let him go overH5674 with my lordH0113 the kingH4428; and doH6213 to him what shall seem goodH2896 unto thee. 38And the kingH4428 answeredH0559, ChimhamH3643 shall goH5674 over with me, and I will doH6213 to him that which shall seem goodH2896 unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt requireH0977 of me, that will I doH6213 for thee. 39And all the peopleH5971 went overH5674 JordanH3383. And when the kingH4428 was come overH5674, the kingH4428 kissedH5401 BarzillaiH1271, and blessedH1288 him; and he returnedH7725 unto his own placeH4725.

40Then the kingH4428 went onH5674 to GilgalH1537, and ChimhamH3643 went onH5674 with him: and all the peopleH5971 of JudahH3063 conductedH5674 the kingH4428, and also halfH2677 the peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478.

41And, behold, all the menH0376 of IsraelH3478 cameH0935 to the kingH4428, and saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, Why have our brethrenH0251 the menH0376 of JudahH3063 stolen thee awayH1589, and have broughtH5674 the kingH4428, and his householdH1004, and all DavidsH1732 menH0582 with him, over JordanH3383? 42And all the menH0376 of JudahH3063 answeredH6030 the menH0376 of IsraelH3478, Because the kingH4428 is near of kinH7138 to us: wherefore then be ye angryH2734 for this matterH1697? have we eatenH0398 at allH0398 of the kingsH4428 cost ? or hath he givenH5375 us any giftH5379? 43And the menH0376 of IsraelH3478 answeredH6030 the menH0376 of JudahH3063, and saidH0559, We have tenH6235 partsH3027 in the kingH4428, and weH0589 have also more right in DavidH1732 than ye: why then did ye despiseH7043 us, that our adviceH1697 should not be firstH7223 had in bringing backH7725 our kingH4428? And the wordsH1697 of the menH0376 of JudahH3063 were fiercerH7185 than the wordsH1697 of the menH0376 of IsraelH3478.

2 Samuel: Chapter 20

1And there happenedH7122 to be there a manH0376 of BelialH1100, whose nameH8034 was ShebaH7652, the sonH1121 of BichriH1075, a BenjamiteH1145: and he blewH8628 a trumpetH7782, and saidH0559, We have no partH2506 in DavidH1732, neither have we inheritanceH5159 in the sonH1121 of JesseH3448: everyH0376 manH0376 to his tentsH0168, O IsraelH3478. 2So every manH0376 of IsraelH3478 went upH5927 from afterH0310 DavidH1732, and followedH0310 ShebaH7652 the sonH1121 of BichriH1075: but the menH0376 of JudahH3063 claveH1692 unto their kingH4428, from JordanH3383 even to JerusalemH3389.

3And DavidH1732 cameH0935 to his houseH1004 at JerusalemH3389; and the kingH4428 tookH3947 the tenH6235 womenH0802 his concubinesH6370, whom he had leftH3240 to keepH8104 the houseH1004, and putH5414 them in wardH4931, and fedH3557 them, but went not inH0935 unto them. So they were shut upH6887 unto the dayH3117 of their deathH4191, livingH2424 in widowhoodH0491.

4Then saidH0559 the kingH4428 to AmasaH6021, AssembleH2199 me the menH0376 of JudahH3063 within threeH7969 daysH3117, and be thou here presentH5975. 5So AmasaH6021 wentH3212 to assembleH2199 the men of JudahH3063: but he tarried longerH0309 than the set timeH4150 which he had appointedH3259 him. 6And DavidH1732 saidH0559 to AbishaiH0052, Now shall ShebaH7652 the sonH1121 of BichriH1075 do us more harmH3415 than did AbsalomH0053: takeH3947 thou thy lordsH0113 servantsH5650, and pursueH7291 afterH0310 him, lest he getH4672 him fencedH1219 citiesH5892, and escapeH5337 usH5869. 7And there went outH3318 afterH0310 him JoabsH3097 menH0582, and the CherethitesH3774, and the PelethitesH6432, and all the mighty menH1368: and they went outH3318 of JerusalemH3389, to pursueH7291 afterH0310 ShebaH7652 the sonH1121 of BichriH1075. 8When they were at the greatH1419 stoneH0068 which is in GibeonH1391, AmasaH6021 wentH0935 beforeH6440 them. And JoabsH3097 garmentH4055 that he had put onH3830 was girdedH2296 unto him, and upon it a girdleH2289 with a swordH2719 fastenedH6775 upon his loinsH4975 in the sheathH8593 thereof; and as he went forthH3318 it fell outH5307. 9And JoabH3097 saidH0559 to AmasaH6021, Art thou in healthH7965, my brotherH0251? And JoabH3097 tookH0270 AmasaH6021 by the beardH2206 with the rightH3225 handH3027 to kissH5401 him. 10But AmasaH6021 took no heedH8104 to the swordH2719 that was in JoabsH3097 handH3027: so he smoteH5221 him therewith in the fifthH2570 rib , and shed outH8210 his bowelsH4578 to the groundH0776, and struck him not againH8138; and he diedH4191. So JoabH3097 and AbishaiH0052 his brotherH0251 pursuedH7291 afterH0310 ShebaH7652 the sonH1121 of BichriH1075. 11And oneH0376 of JoabsH3097 menH5288 stoodH5975 by him, and saidH0559, HeH4310 that favourethH2654 JoabH3097, and he that is for DavidH1732, let him go afterH0310 JoabH3097. 12And AmasaH6021 wallowedH1556 in bloodH1818 in the midstH8432 of the highwayH4546. And when the manH0376 sawH7200 that all the peopleH5971 stood stillH5975, he removedH5437 AmasaH6021 out of the highwayH4546 into the fieldH7704, and castH7993 a clothH0899 upon him, when he sawH7200 that every one that cameH0935 by him stood stillH5975. 13When he was removedH3014 out of the highwayH4546, all the peopleH0376 went onH5674 afterH0310 JoabH3097, to pursueH7291 afterH0310 ShebaH7652 the sonH1121 of BichriH1075.

14And he wentH5674 through all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478 unto AbelH0059, and to Beth-maachahH1038, and all the BeritesH1276: and they were gathered togetherH6950, and wentH0935 also afterH0310 him. 15And they cameH0935 and besiegedH6696 him in AbelH0059 of Beth-maachahH1038, and they cast upH8210 a bankH5550 against the cityH5892, and it stoodH5975 in the trenchH2426: and all the peopleH5971 that were with JoabH3097 batteredH7843 the wallH2346, to throw it downH5307.

16Then criedH7121 a wiseH2450 womanH0802 out of the cityH5892, HearH8085, hearH8085; sayH0559, I pray you, unto JoabH3097, Come nearH7126 hither, that I may speakH1696 with thee. 17And when he was come nearH7126 unto her, the womanH0802 saidH0559, Art thou JoabH3097? And he answeredH0559, I am he . Then she saidH0559 unto him, HearH8085 the wordsH1697 of thine handmaidH0519. And he answeredH0559, I do hearH8085. 18Then she spakeH0559, sayingH0559, They were wontH1696 to speakH1696 in old timeH7223, sayingH0559, They shall surelyH7592 askH7592 counsel at AbelH0059: and so they endedH8552 the matter . 19I am one of them that are peaceableH7999 and faithfulH0539 in IsraelH3478: thou seekestH1245 to destroyH4191 a cityH5892 and a motherH0517 in IsraelH3478: why wilt thou swallow upH1104 the inheritanceH5159 of the LORDH3068? 20And JoabH3097 answeredH6030 and saidH0559, Far be itH2486, far be itH2486 from me, that I should swallow upH1104 or destroyH7843. 21The matterH1697 is not so: but a manH0376 of mountH2022 EphraimH0669, ShebaH7652 the sonH1121 of BichriH1075 by nameH8034, hath lifted upH5375 his handH3027 against the kingH4428, even against DavidH1732: deliverH5414 him only, and I will departH3212 from the cityH5892. And the womanH0802 saidH0559 unto JoabH3097, Behold, his headH7218 shall be thrownH7993 to thee overH1157 the wallH2346. 22Then the womanH0802 wentH0935 unto all the peopleH5971 in her wisdomH2451. And they cut offH3772 the headH7218 of ShebaH7652 the sonH1121 of BichriH1075, and castH7993 it out to JoabH3097. And he blewH8628 a trumpetH7782, and they retiredH6327 from the cityH5892, every manH0376 to his tentH0168. And JoabH3097 returnedH7725 to JerusalemH3389 unto the kingH4428.

23Now JoabH3097 was over all the hostH6635 of IsraelH3478: and BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 was over the CherethitesH3774 and over the PelethitesH6432: 24And AdoramH0151 was over the tributeH4522: and JehoshaphatH3092 the sonH1121 of AhiludH0286 was recorderH2142: 25And ShevaH7864 was scribeH5608: and ZadokH6659 and AbiatharH0054 were the priestsH3548: 26And IraH5896 also the JairiteH2972 was a chief rulerH3548 about DavidH1732.

2 Samuel: Chapter 21

1Then there was a famineH7458 in the daysH3117 of DavidH1732 threeH7969 yearsH8141, yearH8141 afterH0310 yearH8141; and DavidH1732 enquiredH1245 ofH6440 the LORDH3068. And the LORDH3068 answeredH0559, It is for SaulH7586, and for his bloodyH1818 houseH1004, because he slewH4191 the GibeonitesH1393. 2And the kingH4428 calledH7121 the GibeonitesH1393, and saidH0559 unto them; (now the GibeonitesH1393 were not of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, but of the remnantH3499 of the AmoritesH0567; and the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 had swornH7650 unto them: and SaulH7586 soughtH1245 to slayH5221 them in his zealH7065 to the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063.) 3Wherefore DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto the GibeonitesH1393, What shall I doH6213 for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonementH3722, that ye may blessH1288 the inheritanceH5159 of the LORDH3068? 4And the GibeonitesH1393 saidH0559 unto him, We will have no silverH3701 nor goldH2091 ofH5973 SaulH7586, nor of his houseH1004; neither for us shalt thou killH4191 any manH0376 in IsraelH3478. And he saidH0559, What ye shall sayH0559, that will I doH6213 for you. 5And they answeredH0559 the kingH4428, The manH0376 that consumedH3615 us, and that devisedH1819 against us that we should be destroyedH8045 from remainingH3320 in any of the coastsH1366 of IsraelH3478, 6Let sevenH7651 menH0582 of his sonsH1121 be deliveredH5414 unto us, and we will hang them upH3363 unto the LORDH3068 in GibeahH1390 of SaulH7586, whom the LORDH3068 did chooseH0972. And the kingH4428 saidH0559, I will giveH5414 them . 7But the kingH4428 sparedH2550 MephiboshethH4648, the sonH1121 of JonathanH3083 the sonH1121 of SaulH7586, because of the LORDsH3068 oathH7621 that was between them, between DavidH1732 and JonathanH3083 the sonH1121 of SaulH7586. 8But the kingH4428 tookH3947 the twoH8147 sonsH1121 of RizpahH7532 the daughterH1323 of AiahH0345, whom she bareH3205 unto SaulH7586, ArmoniH0764 and MephiboshethH4648; and the fiveH2568 sonsH1121 of MichalH4324 the daughterH1323 of SaulH7586, whom she brought upH3205 for AdrielH5741 the sonH1121 of BarzillaiH1271 the MeholathiteH4259: 9And he deliveredH5414 them into the handsH3027 of the GibeonitesH1393, and they hangedH3363 them in the hillH2022 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068: and they fellH5307 all sevenH7651 togetherH3162, and were put to deathH4191 in the daysH3117 of harvestH7105, in the firstH7223 days , in the beginningH8462 of barleyH8184 harvestH7105.

10And RizpahH7532 the daughterH1323 of AiahH0345 tookH3947 sackclothH8242, and spreadH5186 it for her upon the rockH6697, from the beginningH8462 of harvestH7105 until waterH4325 droppedH5413 upon them out of heavenH8064, and sufferedH5414 neither the birdsH5775 of the airH8064 to restH5117 on them by dayH3119, nor the beastsH2416 of the fieldH7704 by nightH3915. 11And it was toldH5046 DavidH1732 what RizpahH7532 the daughterH1323 of AiahH0345, the concubineH6370 of SaulH7586, had doneH6213.

12And DavidH1732 wentH3212 and tookH3947 the bonesH6106 of SaulH7586 and the bonesH6106 of JonathanH3083 his sonH1121 from the menH1167 of Jabesh-gileadH3003, which had stolenH1589 them from the streetH7339 of Beth-shanH1052, where the PhilistinesH6430 had hangedH8511 them, whenH3117 the PhilistinesH6430 had slainH5221 SaulH7586 in GilboaH1533: 13And he brought upH5927 from thence the bonesH6106 of SaulH7586 and the bonesH6106 of JonathanH3083 his sonH1121; and they gatheredH0622 the bonesH6106 of them that were hangedH3363. 14And the bonesH6106 of SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 his sonH1121 buriedH6912 they in the countryH0776 of BenjaminH1144 in ZelahH6762, in the sepulchreH6913 of KishH7027 his fatherH0001: and they performedH6213 all that the kingH4428 commandedH6680. And afterH0310 that GodH0430 was intreatedH6279 for the landH0776.

15Moreover the PhilistinesH6430 had yet warH4421 again with IsraelH3478; and DavidH1732 went downH3381, and his servantsH5650 with him, and foughtH3898 against the PhilistinesH6430: and DavidH1732 waxed faintH5774. 16And Ishbi-benobH3430, which was of the sonsH3211 of the giantH7497, the weightH4948 of whose spearH7013 weighed threeH7969 hundredH3967 shekels of brassH5178 in weightH4948, he being girdedH2296 with a newH2319 sword , thoughtH0559 to have slainH5221 DavidH1732. 17But AbishaiH0052 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 succouredH5826 him, and smoteH5221 the PhilistineH6430, and killedH4191 him. Then the menH0582 of DavidH1732 swareH7650 unto him, sayingH0559, Thou shalt goH3318 no more out with us to battleH4421, that thou quenchH3518 not the lightH5216 of IsraelH3478. 18And it came to pass after thisH0310, that there was again a battleH4421 with the PhilistinesH6430 at GobH1359: then SibbechaiH5444 the HushathiteH2843 slewH5221 SaphH5593, which was of the sonsH3211 of the giantH7497. 19And there was again a battleH4421 in GobH1359 with the PhilistinesH6430, where ElhananH0445 the sonH1121 of Jaare-oregimH3296, a Beth-lehemiteH1022, slewH5221 the brother of GoliathH1555 the GittiteH1663, the staffH6086 of whose spearH2595 was like a weaversH0707 beamH4500. 20And there was yet a battleH4421 in GathH1661, where was a manH0376 of great statureH4067, that had on every handH3027 sixH8337 fingersH0676, and on every footH7272 sixH8337 toesH0676, fourH0702 and twentyH6242 in numberH4557; and he also was bornH3205 to the giantH7497. 21And when he defiedH2778 IsraelH3478, JonathanH3083 the sonH1121 of ShimeaH8092 the brotherH0251 of DavidH1732 slewH5221 him. 22These fourH0702 were bornH3205 to the giantH7497 in GathH1661, and fellH5307 by the handH3027 of DavidH1732, and by the handH3027 of his servantsH5650.

2 Samuel: Chapter 22

1And DavidH1732 spakeH1696 unto the LORDH3068 the wordsH1697 of this songH7892 in the dayH3117 that the LORDH3068 had deliveredH5337 him out of the handH3709 of all his enemiesH0341, and out of the handH3709 of SaulH7586:

2And he saidH0559, The LORDH3068 is my rockH5553, and my fortressH4686, and my delivererH6403; 3The GodH0430 of my rockH6697; in him will I trustH2620: he is my shieldH4043, and the hornH7161 of my salvationH3468, my high towerH4869, and my refugeH4498, my saviourH3467; thou savestH3467 me from violenceH2555. 4I will callH7121 on the LORDH3068, who is worthy to be praisedH1984: so shall I be savedH3467 from mine enemiesH0341. 5When the wavesH4867 of deathH4194 compassedH0661 me, the floodsH5158 of ungodly menH1100 made me afraidH1204; 6The sorrowsH2256 of hellH7585 compassed me aboutH5437; the snaresH4170 of deathH4194 preventedH6923 me; 7In my distressH6862 I calledH7121 upon the LORDH3068, and criedH7121 to my GodH0430: and he did hearH8085 my voiceH6963 out of his templeH1964, and my cryH7775 did enter into his earsH0241. 8Then the earthH0776 shookH1607 and trembledH7493; the foundationsH4146 of heavenH8064 movedH7264 and shookH1607, because he was wrothH2734. 9There went upH5927 a smokeH6227 out of his nostrilsH0639, and fireH0784 out of his mouthH6310 devouredH0398: coalsH1513 were kindledH1197 by it. 10He bowedH5186 the heavensH8064 also, and came downH3381; and darknessH6205 was under his feetH7272. 11And he rodeH7392 upon a cherubH3742, and did flyH5774: and he was seenH7200 upon the wingsH3671 of the windH7307. 12And he madeH7896 darknessH2822 pavilionsH5521 round aboutH5439 him, darkH2841 watersH4325, and thick cloudsH5645 of the skiesH7834. 13Through the brightnessH5051 before him were coalsH1513 of fireH0784 kindledH1197. 14The LORDH3068 thunderedH7481 from heavenH8064, and the most HighH5945 utteredH5414 his voiceH6963. 15And he sent outH7971 arrowsH2671, and scatteredH6327 them; lightningH1300, and discomfitedH2000 them. 16And the channelsH0650 of the seaH3220 appearedH7200, the foundationsH4146 of the worldH8398 were discoveredH1540, at the rebukingH1606 of the LORDH3068, at the blastH5397 of the breathH7307 of his nostrilsH0639. 17He sentH7971 from aboveH4791, he tookH3947 me; he drewH4871 me out of manyH7227 watersH4325; 18He deliveredH5337 me from my strongH5794 enemyH0341, and from them that hatedH8130 me: for they were too strongH0553 for me. 19They preventedH6923 me in the dayH3117 of my calamityH0343: but the LORDH3068 was my stayH4937. 20He brought me forthH3318 also into a large placeH4800: he deliveredH2502 me, because he delightedH2654 in me. 21The LORDH3068 rewardedH1580 me according to my righteousnessH6666: according to the cleannessH1252 of my handsH3027 hath he recompensedH7725 me. 22For I have keptH8104 the waysH1870 of the LORDH3068, and have not wickedly departedH7561 from my GodH0430. 23For all his judgmentsH4941 were before me: and as for his statutesH2708, I did not departH5493 from them. 24I was also uprightH8549 before him, and have keptH8104 myself from mine iniquityH5771. 25Therefore the LORDH3068 hath recompensedH7725 me according to my righteousnessH6666; according to my cleannessH1252 in his eye sightH5048. 26With the mercifulH2623 thou wilt shew thyself mercifulH2616, and with the uprightH8549 manH1368 thou wilt shew thyself uprightH8552. 27With the pureH1305 thou wilt shew thyself pureH1305; and with the frowardH6141 thou wilt shew thyself unsavouryH6617. 28And the afflictedH6041 peopleH5971 thou wilt saveH3467: but thine eyesH5869 are upon the haughtyH7311, that thou mayest bring them downH8213. 29For thou art my lampH5216, O LORDH3068: and the LORDH3068 will lightenH5050 my darknessH2822. 30For by thee I have runH7323 through a troopH1416: by my GodH0430 have I leaped overH1801 a wallH7791. 31 As for GodH0410, his wayH1870 is perfectH8549; the wordH0565 of the LORDH3068 is triedH6884: he is a bucklerH4043 to all them that trustH2620 in him. 32For who is GodH0410, saveH1107 the LORDH3068? and who is a rockH6697, saveH1107 our GodH0430? 33GodH0410 is my strengthH4581 and powerH2428: and he makethH5425 my wayH1870 perfectH8549. 34He makethH7737 my feetH7272 likeH7737 hindsH0355 feet: and settethH5975 me upon my high placesH1116. 35He teachethH3925 my handsH3027 to warH4421; so that a bowH7198 of steelH5154 is brokenH5181 by mine armsH2220. 36Thou hast also givenH5414 me the shieldH4043 of thy salvationH3468: and thy gentlenessH6031 hath made me greatH7235. 37Thou hast enlargedH7337 my stepsH6806 under me; so that my feetH7166 did not slipH4571. 38I have pursuedH7291 mine enemiesH0341, and destroyedH8045 them; and turned not againH7725 until I had consumedH3615 them. 39And I have consumedH3615 them, and woundedH4272 them, that they could not ariseH6965: yea, they are fallenH5307 under my feetH7272. 40For thou hast girdedH0247 me with strengthH2428 to battleH4421: them that rose upH6965 against me hast thou subduedH3766 under me. 41Thou hast also givenH5414 me the necksH6203 of mine enemiesH0341, that I might destroyH6789 them that hateH8130 me. 42They lookedH8159, but there was none to saveH3467; even unto the LORDH3068, but he answeredH6030 them not. 43Then did I beatH7833 them as small as the dustH6083 of the earthH0776, I did stampH1854 them as the mireH2916 of the streetH2351, and did spread them abroadH7554. 44Thou also hast deliveredH6403 me from the strivingsH7379 of my peopleH5971, thou hast keptH8104 me to be headH7218 of the heathenH1471: a peopleH5971 which I knewH3045 not shall serveH5647 me. 45StrangersH1121 shall submitH3584 themselves unto me: as soon as they hearH8085, they shall be obedientH8085 unto me. 46StrangersH1121 shall fade awayH5034, and they shall be afraidH2296 out of their close placesH4526. 47The LORDH3068 livethH2416; and blessedH1288 be my rockH6697; and exaltedH7311 be the GodH0430 of the rockH6697 of my salvationH3468. 48It is GodH0410 that avengethH5414 me, and that bringeth downH3381 the peopleH5971 under me, 49And that bringeth me forthH3318 from mine enemiesH0341: thou also hast lifted me up on highH7311 above them that rose upH6965 against me: thou hast deliveredH5337 me from the violentH2555 manH0376. 50Therefore I will give thanksH3034 unto thee, O LORDH3068, among the heathenH1471, and I will sing praisesH2167 unto thy nameH8034. 51 He is the towerH4024 of salvationH3444 for his kingH4428: and shewethH6213 mercyH2617 to his anointedH4899, unto DavidH1732, and to his seedH2233 forH5704 evermoreH5769.

2 Samuel: Chapter 23

1Now these be the lastH0314 wordsH1697 of DavidH1732. DavidH1732 the sonH1121 of JesseH3448 saidH5002, and the manH1397 who was raised upH6965 on highH5920, the anointedH4899 of the GodH0430 of JacobH3290, and the sweetH5273 psalmistH2158 of IsraelH3478, saidH5002, 2The SpiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 spakeH1696 by me, and his wordH4405 was in my tongueH3956. 3The GodH0430 of IsraelH3478 saidH0559, the RockH6697 of IsraelH3478 spakeH1696 to me, He that rulethH4910 over menH0120 must be justH6662, rulingH4910 in the fearH3374 of GodH0430. 4And he shall be as the lightH0216 of the morningH1242, when the sunH8121 risethH2224, even a morningH1242 withoutH3808 cloudsH5645; as the tender grassH1877 springing out of the earthH0776 by clear shiningH5051 after rainH4306. 5Although my houseH1004 be not so with GodH0410; yet he hath madeH7760 with me an everlastingH5769 covenantH1285, orderedH6186 in all things , and sureH8104: for this is all my salvationH3468, and all my desireH2656, although he make it not to growH6779.

6But the sons of BelialH1100 shall be all of them as thornsH6975 thrust awayH5074, because they cannot be takenH3947 with handsH3027: 7But the manH0376 that shall touchH5060 them must be fencedH4390 with ironH1270 and the staffH6086 of a spearH2595; and they shall be utterlyH8313 burnedH8313 with fireH0784 in the same placeH7675.

8These be the namesH8034 of the mighty menH1368 whom DavidH1732 had: The TachmoniteH8461 that satH3427 in the seatH7675, chiefH7218 among the captainsH7991; the same was AdinoH5722 the EzniteH6112: he lift up his spear against eightH8083 hundredH3967, whom he slewH2491 at oneH0259 timeH6471. 9And afterH0310 him was EleazarH0499 the sonH1121 of DodoH1734 the AhohiteH0266, one of the threeH7969 mighty menH1368 with DavidH1732, when they defiedH2778 the PhilistinesH6430 that were there gathered togetherH0622 to battleH4421, and the menH0376 of IsraelH3478 were gone awayH5927: 10He aroseH6965, and smoteH5221 the PhilistinesH6430 untilH3588 his handH3027 was wearyH3021, and his handH3027 claveH1692 unto the swordH2719: and the LORDH3068 wroughtH6213 a greatH1419 victoryH8668 that dayH3117; and the peopleH5971 returnedH7725 afterH0310 him only to spoilH6584. 11And afterH0310 him was ShammahH8048 the sonH1121 of AgeeH0089 the HarariteH2043. And the PhilistinesH6430 were gathered togetherH0622 into a troopH2416, where was a pieceH2513 of groundH7704 fullH4392 of lentilesH5742: and the peopleH5971 fledH5127 fromH6440 the PhilistinesH6430. 12But he stoodH3320 in the midstH8432 of the groundH2513, and defendedH5337 it, and slewH5221 the PhilistinesH6430: and the LORDH3068 wroughtH6213 a greatH1419 victoryH8668. 13And threeH7969 of the thirtyH7970 chiefH7218 went downH3381, and cameH0935 to DavidH1732 in the harvest timeH7105 unto the caveH4631 of AdullamH5725: and the troopH2416 of the PhilistinesH6430 pitchedH2583 in the valleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. 14And DavidH1732 was then in an holdH4686, and the garrisonH4673 of the PhilistinesH6430 was then in Beth-lehemH1035. 15And DavidH1732 longedH0183, and saidH0559, Oh that one would give me drinkH8248 of the waterH4325 of the wellH0953 of Beth-lehemH1035, which is by the gateH8179! 16And the threeH7969 mighty menH1368 brake throughH1234 the hostH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430, and drewH7579 waterH4325 out of the wellH0953 of Beth-lehemH1035, that was by the gateH8179, and tookH5375 it , and broughtH0935 it to DavidH1732: nevertheless he wouldH0014 not drinkH8354 thereof, but poured it outH5258 unto the LORDH3068. 17And he saidH0559, Be it farH2486 from me, O LORDH3068, that I should doH6213 this: is not this the bloodH1818 of the menH0582 that wentH1980 in jeopardy of their livesH5315? therefore he wouldH0014 not drinkH8354 it. These things didH6213 these threeH7969 mighty menH1368. 18And AbishaiH0052, the brotherH0251 of JoabH3097, the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870, was chiefH7218 among threeH7992. And he lifted upH5782 his spearH2595 against threeH7969 hundredH3967, and slewH2491 them , and had the nameH8034 among threeH7969. 19Was he not most honourableH3513 of threeH7969? therefore he was their captainH8269: howbeit he attainedH0935 not unto the first threeH7969. 20And BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, the sonH1121 of a valiantH2428 manH0376, of KabzeelH6909, who had done manyH7227 actsH6467, he slewH5221 twoH8147 lionlike menH0739 of MoabH4124: he went downH3381 also and slewH5221 a lionH0738 in the midstH8432 of a pitH0953 in timeH3117 of snowH7950: 21And he slewH2026 an EgyptianH4713, a goodlyH4758 manH0376: and the EgyptianH4713 had a spearH2595 in his handH3027; but he went downH3381 to him with a staffH7626, and pluckedH1497 the spearH2595 out of the EgyptiansH4713 handH3027, and slewH5221 him with his own spearH2595. 22These things didH6213 BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, and had the nameH8034 among threeH7969 mighty menH1368. 23He was more honourableH3513 than the thirtyH7970, but he attainedH0935 not to the first threeH7969. And DavidH1732 setH7760 him over his guardH4928. 24 AsahelH6214 the brotherH0251 of JoabH3097 was one of the thirtyH7970; ElhananH0445 the sonH1121 of DodoH1734 of Beth-lehemH1035, 25 ShammahH8048 the HaroditeH2733, ElikaH0470 the HaroditeH2733, 26 HelezH2503 the PaltiteH6407, IraH5896 the sonH1121 of IkkeshH6142 the TekoiteH8621, 27 AbiezerH0044 the AnethothiteH6069, MebunnaiH4012 the HushathiteH2843, 28 ZalmonH6756 the AhohiteH0266, MaharaiH4121 the NetophathiteH5200, 29HelebH2460 the sonH1121 of BaanahH1196, a NetophathiteH5200, IttaiH0863 the sonH1121 of RibaiH7380 out of GibeahH1390 of the childrenH1121 of BenjaminH1144, 30 BenaiahH1141 the PirathoniteH6553, HiddaiH1914 of the brooksH5158 of GaashH1608, 31 Abi-albonH0045 the ArbathiteH6164, AzmavethH5820 the BarhumiteH1273, 32 EliahbaH0455 the ShaalboniteH8170, of the sonsH1121 of JashenH3464, JonathanH3083, 33 ShammahH8048 the HarariteH2043, AhiamH0279 the sonH1121 of ShararH8325 the HarariteH2043, 34ElipheletH0467 the sonH1121 of AhasbaiH0308, the sonH1121 of the MaachathiteH4602, EliamH0463 the sonH1121 of AhithophelH0302 the GiloniteH1526, 35 HezraiH2695 the CarmeliteH3761, PaaraiH6474 the ArbiteH0701, 36 IgalH3008 the sonH1121 of NathanH5416 of ZobahH6678, BaniH1137 the GaditeH1425, 37 ZelekH6768 the AmmoniteH5984, NaharaiH5171 the BeerothiteH0886, armourbearerH5375 to JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870, 38 IraH5896 an IthriteH3505, GarebH1619 an IthriteH3505, 39 UriahH0223 the HittiteH2850: thirtyH7970 and sevenH7651 in all.

2 Samuel: Chapter 24

1And againH3254 the angerH0639 of the LORDH3068 was kindledH2734 against IsraelH3478, and he movedH5496 DavidH1732 against them to sayH0559, GoH3212, numberH4487 IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063. 2For the kingH4428 saidH0559 to JoabH3097 the captainH8269 of the hostH2428, which was with him, Go now throughH7751 all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, from DanH1835 even to Beer-shebaH0884, and numberH6485 ye the peopleH5971, that I may knowH3045 the numberH4557 of the peopleH5971. 3And JoabH3097 saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, Now the LORDH3068 thy GodH0430 addH3254 unto the peopleH5971, how many soeverH1992 they be, an hundredfoldH3967, and that the eyesH5869 of my lordH0113 the kingH4428 may seeH7200 it: but why doth my lordH0113 the kingH4428 delightH2654 in this thingH1697? 4Notwithstanding the kingsH4428 wordH1697 prevailedH2388 against JoabH3097, and against the captainsH8269 of the hostH2428. And JoabH3097 and the captainsH8269 of the hostH2428 went outH3318 from the presenceH6440 of the kingH4428, to numberH6485 the peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478.

5And they passed overH5674 JordanH3383, and pitchedH2583 in AroerH6177, on the right sideH3225 of the cityH5892 that lieth in the midstH8432 of the riverH5158 of GadH1410, and toward JazerH3270: 6Then they cameH0935 to GileadH1568, and to the landH0776 of Tahtim-hodshiH8483; and they cameH0935 to Dan-jaanH1842, and aboutH5439 to ZidonH6721, 7And cameH0935 to the strong holdH4013 of TyreH6865, and to all the citiesH5892 of the HivitesH2340, and of the CanaanitesH3669: and they went outH3318 to the southH5045 of JudahH3063, even to Beer-shebaH0884. 8So when they had goneH7751 through all the landH0776, they cameH0935 to JerusalemH3389 at the endH7097 of nineH8672 monthsH2320 and twentyH6242 daysH3117. 9And JoabH3097 gave upH5414 the sumH4557 of the numberH4662 of the peopleH5971 unto the kingH4428: and there were in IsraelH3478 eightH8083 hundredH3967 thousandH0505 valiantH2428 menH0376 that drewH8025 the swordH2719; and the menH0376 of JudahH3063 were fiveH2568 hundredH3967 thousandH0505 menH0376.

10And DavidsH1732 heartH3820 smoteH5221 him afterH0310 that he had numberedH5608 the peopleH5971. And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto the LORDH3068, I have sinnedH2398 greatlyH3966 in that I have doneH6213: and now, I beseech thee, O LORDH3068, take awayH5674 the iniquityH5771 of thy servantH5650; for I have done veryH3966 foolishlyH5528. 11For when DavidH1732 was upH6965 in the morningH1242, the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto the prophetH5030 GadH1410, DavidsH1732 seerH2374, sayingH0559, 12GoH1980 and sayH0559 unto DavidH1732, Thus saithH1696 the LORDH3068, I offerH5190 thee threeH7969 things; chooseH0977 thee oneH0259 of them, that I may do it unto theeH6213. 13So GadH1410 cameH0935 to DavidH1732, and toldH5046 him, and saidH0559 unto him, Shall sevenH7651 yearsH8141 of famineH7458 comeH0935 unto thee in thy landH0776? or wilt thou fleeH5127 threeH7969 monthsH2320 beforeH6440 thine enemiesH6862, while they pursueH7291 thee? or that there be threeH7969 daysH3117 pestilenceH1698 in thy landH0776? now adviseH3045, and seeH7200 what answerH1697 I shall returnH7725 to him that sentH7971 me. 14And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto GadH1410, I am in a greatH3966 straitH6887: let us fallH5307 now into the handH3027 of the LORDH3068; for his merciesH7356 are greatH7227: and let me not fallH5307 into the handH3027 of manH0120.

15So the LORDH3068 sentH5414 a pestilenceH1698 upon IsraelH3478 from the morningH1242 even to the timeH6256 appointedH4150: and there diedH4191 of the peopleH5971 from DanH1835 even to Beer-shebaH0884 seventyH7657 thousandH0505 menH0376. 16And when the angelH4397 stretched outH7971 his handH3027 upon JerusalemH3389 to destroyH7843 it, the LORDH3068 repentedH5162 him of the evilH7451, and saidH0559 to the angelH4397 that destroyedH7843 the peopleH5971, It is enoughH7227: stayH7503 now thine handH3027. And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 was by the threshingplaceH1637 of AraunahH0728 the JebusiteH2983. 17And DavidH1732 spakeH0559 unto the LORDH3068 when he sawH7200 the angelH4397 that smoteH5221 the peopleH5971, and saidH0559, Lo, I have sinnedH2398, and I have done wickedlyH5753: but these sheepH6629, what have they doneH6213? let thine handH3027, I pray thee, be against me, and against my fathersH0001 houseH1004.

18And GadH1410 cameH0935 that dayH3117 to DavidH1732, and saidH0559 unto him, Go upH5927, rearH6965 an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068 in the threshingfloorH1637 of AraunahH0728 the JebusiteH2983. 19And DavidH1732, according to the sayingH1697 of GadH1410, went upH5927 as the LORDH3068 commandedH6680. 20And AraunahH0728 lookedH8259, and sawH7200 the kingH4428 and his servantsH5650 coming onH5674 toward him: and AraunahH0728 went outH3318, and bowedH7812 himself before the kingH4428 on his faceH0639 upon the groundH0776. 21And AraunahH0728 saidH0559, Wherefore is my lordH0113 the kingH4428 comeH0935 to his servantH5650? And DavidH1732 saidH0559, To buyH7069 the threshingfloorH1637 of thee, to buildH1129 an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068, that the plagueH4046 may be stayedH6113 from the peopleH5971. 22And AraunahH0728 saidH0559 unto DavidH1732, Let my lordH0113 the kingH4428 takeH3947 and offer upH5927 what seemeth goodH2896 unto himH5869: beholdH7200, here be oxenH1241 for burnt sacrificeH5930, and threshing instrumentsH4173 and other instrumentsH3627 of the oxenH1241 for woodH6086. 23All these things did AraunahH0728, as a kingH4428, giveH5414 unto the kingH4428. And AraunahH0728 saidH0559 unto the kingH4428, The LORDH3068 thy GodH0430 acceptH7521 thee. 24And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto AraunahH0728, Nay; but I will surelyH7069 buyH7069 it of thee at a priceH4242: neither will I offerH5927 burnt offeringsH5930 unto the LORDH3068 my GodH0430 of that which doth cost me nothingH2600. So DavidH1732 boughtH7069 the threshingfloorH1637 and the oxenH1241 for fiftyH2572 shekelsH8255 of silverH3701. 25And DavidH1732 builtH1129 there an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068, and offeredH5927 burnt offeringsH5930 and peace offeringsH8002. So the LORDH3068 was intreatedH6279 for the landH0776, and the plagueH4046 was stayedH6113 from IsraelH3478.
