1 Samuel: Chapter 1

1Now there was a certainH0259 manH0376 of Ramathaim-zophimH7436, of mountH2022 EphraimH0669, and his nameH8034 was ElkanahH0511, the sonH1121 of JerohamH3395, the sonH1121 of ElihuH0453, the sonH1121 of TohuH8459, the sonH1121 of ZuphH6689, an EphrathiteH0673: 2And he had twoH8147 wivesH0802; the nameH8034 of the oneH0259 was HannahH2584, and the nameH8034 of the otherH8145 PeninnahH6444: and PeninnahH6444 had childrenH3206, but HannahH2584 had no childrenH3206. 3And thisH1931 manH0376 went upH5927 out of his cityH5892 yearlyH3117 to worshipH7812 and to sacrificeH2076 unto the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 in ShilohH7887. And the twoH8147 sonsH1121 of EliH5941, HophniH2652 and PhinehasH6372, the priestsH3548 of the LORDH3068, were there.

4And when the timeH3117 was that ElkanahH0511 offeredH2076, he gaveH5414 to PeninnahH6444 his wifeH0802, and to all her sonsH1121 and her daughtersH1323, portionsH4490: 5But unto HannahH2584 he gaveH5414 aH0259 worthyH0639 portionH4490; for he lovedH0157 HannahH2584: but the LORDH3068 had shut upH5462 her wombH7358. 6And her adversaryH6869 also provokedH3707 her soreH3708, for to make her fretH7481, because the LORDH3068 had shutH5462 upH1157 her wombH7358. 7And as he didH6213 so yearH8141 by yearH8141, whenH1767 she went upH5927 to the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, so she provokedH3707 her; therefore she weptH1058, and did not eatH0398. 8Then saidH0559 ElkanahH0511 her husbandH0376 to her, HannahH2584, why weepestH1058 thou? and why eatestH0398 thou not? and why is thy heartH3824 grievedH3415? am not I betterH2896 to thee than tenH6235 sonsH1121?

9So HannahH2584 rose upH6965 afterH0310 they had eatenH0398 in ShilohH7887, and afterH0310 they had drunkH8354. Now EliH5941 the priestH3548 satH3427 upon a seatH3678 by a postH4201 of the templeH1964 of the LORDH3068. 10And she was in bitternessH4751 of soulH5315, and prayedH6419 unto the LORDH3068, and weptH1058 soreH1058. 11And she vowedH5087 a vowH5088, and saidH0559, O LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, if thou wilt indeedH7200 lookH7200 on the afflictionH6040 of thine handmaidH0519, and rememberH2142 me, and not forgetH7911 thine handmaidH0519, but wilt giveH5414 unto thine handmaidH0519 a manH0582 childH2233, then I will giveH5414 him unto the LORDH3068 all the daysH3117 of his lifeH2416, and there shall no razorH4177 comeH5927 upon his headH7218. 12And it came to pass, as she continuedH7235 prayingH6419 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, that EliH5941 markedH8104 her mouthH6310. 13Now HannahH2584, she spakeH1696 in her heartH3820; only her lipsH8193 movedH5128, but her voiceH6963 was not heardH8085: therefore EliH5941 thoughtH2803 she had been drunkenH7910. 14And EliH5941 saidH0559 unto her, How long wilt thou be drunkenH7937? put awayH5493 thy wineH3196 from thee. 15And HannahH2584 answeredH6030 and saidH0559, No, my lordH0113, I am a womanH0802 of a sorrowfulH7186 spiritH7307: I have drunkH8354 neither wineH3196 nor strong drinkH7941, but have poured outH8210 my soulH5315 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068. 16CountH5414 not thine handmaidH0519 forH6440 a daughterH1323 of BelialH1100: for out of the abundanceH7230 of my complaintH7879 and griefH3708 have I spokenH1696 hitherto. 17Then EliH5941 answeredH6030 and saidH0559, GoH3212 in peaceH7965: and the GodH0430 of IsraelH3478 grantH5414 thee thy petitionH7596 that thou hast askedH7592 of him. 18And she saidH0559, Let thine handmaidH8198 findH4672 graceH2580 in thy sightH5869. So the womanH0802 wentH3212 her wayH1870, and did eatH0398, and her countenanceH6440 was no more sad .

19And they rose upH7925 in the morningH1242 earlyH7925, and worshippedH7812 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and returnedH7725, and cameH0935 to their houseH1004 to RamahH7414: and ElkanahH0511 knewH3045 HannahH2584 his wifeH0802; and the LORDH3068 rememberedH2142 her. 20Wherefore it came to pass, when the timeH3117 was comeH8622 about after HannahH2584 had conceivedH2029, that she bareH3205 a sonH1121, and calledH7121 his nameH8034 SamuelH8050, saying , Because I have askedH7592 him of the LORDH3068. 21And the manH0376 ElkanahH0511, and all his houseH1004, went upH5927 to offerH2076 unto the LORDH3068 the yearlyH3117 sacrificeH2077, and his vowH5088. 22But HannahH2584 went not upH5927; for she saidH0559 unto her husbandH0376, I will not go up until the childH5288 be weanedH1580, and then I will bringH0935 him, that he may appearH7200 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and there abideH3427 forH5704 everH5769. 23And ElkanahH0511 her husbandH0376 saidH0559 unto her, DoH6213 what seemethH5869 thee goodH2896; tarryH3427 until thou have weanedH1580 him; only the LORDH3068 establishH6965 his wordH1697. So the womanH0802 abodeH3427, and gave her sonH1121 suckH3243 until she weanedH1580 him.

24And when she had weanedH1580 him, she took him upH5927 with her, with threeH7969 bullocksH6499, and oneH0259 ephahH0374 of flourH7058, and a bottleH5035 of wineH3196, and broughtH0935 him unto the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 in ShilohH7887: and the childH5288 was youngH5288. 25And they slewH7819 a bullockH6499, and broughtH0935 the childH5288 to EliH5941. 26And she saidH0559, OhH0994 my lordH0113, as thy soulH5315 livethH2416, my lordH0113, I am the womanH0802 that stoodH5324 by thee here, prayingH6419 unto the LORDH3068. 27For this childH5288 I prayedH6419; and the LORDH3068 hath givenH5414 me my petitionH7596 which I askedH7592 of him: 28Therefore also I have lentH7592 him to the LORDH3068; as long as he livethH3117 he shall be lentH7592 to the LORDH3068. And he worshippedH7812 the LORDH3068 there.

1 Samuel: Chapter 2

1And HannahH2584 prayedH6419, and saidH0559, My heartH3820 rejoicethH5970 in the LORDH3068, mine hornH7161 is exaltedH7311 in the LORDH3068: my mouthH6310 is enlargedH7337 over mine enemiesH0341; because I rejoiceH8055 in thy salvationH3444. 2 There is none holyH6918 as the LORDH3068: for there is none besideH1115 thee: neither is there any rockH6697 like our GodH0430. 3TalkH1696 no moreH7235 so exceedingH1364 proudlyH1364; let not arrogancyH6277 comeH3318 out of your mouthH6310: for the LORDH3068 is a GodH0410 of knowledgeH1844, and by him actionsH5949 are weighedH8505. 4The bowsH7198 of the mighty menH1368 are brokenH2844, and they that stumbledH3782 are girdedH0247 with strengthH2428. 5 They that were fullH7649 have hired outH7936 themselves for breadH3899; and they that were hungryH7457 ceasedH2308: so that the barrenH6135 hath bornH3205 sevenH7651; and she that hath manyH7227 childrenH1121 is waxed feebleH0535. 6The LORDH3068 killethH4191, and maketh aliveH2421: he bringeth downH3381 to the graveH7585, and bringeth upH5927. 7The LORDH3068 maketh poorH3423, and maketh richH6238: he bringeth lowH8213, andH0637 lifteth upH7311. 8He raiseth upH6965 the poorH1800 out of the dustH6083, and lifteth upH7311 the beggarH0034 from the dunghillH0830, to setH3427 them among princesH5081, and to make them inheritH5157 the throneH3678 of gloryH3519: for the pillarsH4690 of the earthH0776 are the LORDsH3068, and he hath setH7896 the worldH8398 upon them. 9He will keepH8104 the feetH7272 of his saintsH2623, and the wickedH7563 shall be silentH1826 in darknessH2822; for by strengthH3581 shall no manH0376 prevailH1396. 10The adversariesH7378 of the LORDH3068 shall be broken to piecesH2865; out of heavenH8064 shall he thunderH7481 upon them: the LORDH3068 shall judgeH1777 the endsH0657 of the earthH0776; and he shall giveH5414 strengthH5797 unto his kingH4428, and exaltH7311 the hornH7161 of his anointedH4899.

11And ElkanahH0511 wentH3212 to RamahH7414 to his houseH1004. And the childH5288 didH1961 ministerH8334 unto the LORDH3068 beforeH6440 EliH5941 the priestH3548.

12Now the sonsH1121 of EliH5941 were sonsH1121 of BelialH1100; they knewH3045 not the LORDH3068. 13And the priestsH3548 customH4941 with the peopleH5971 was, that , when any manH0376 offeredH2076 sacrificeH2077, the priestsH3548 servantH5288 cameH0935, while the fleshH1320 was in seethingH1310, with a fleshhookH4207 of threeH7969 teethH8127 in his handH3027; 14And he struckH5221 it into the panH3595, or kettleH1731, or caldronH7037, or potH6517; all that the fleshhookH4207 brought upH5927 the priestH3548 tookH3947 for himself. So they didH6213 in ShilohH7887 unto all the IsraelitesH3478 that cameH0935 thither. 15Also before they burntH6999 the fatH2459, the priestsH3548 servantH5288 cameH0935, and saidH0559 to the manH0376 that sacrificedH2076, GiveH5414 fleshH1320 to roastH6740 for the priestH3548; for he will not haveH3947 soddenH1310 fleshH1320 of thee, but rawH2416. 16And if any manH0376 saidH0559 unto him, Let them not failH6999 to burnH6999 the fatH2459 presentlyH3117, and then takeH3947 as much as thy soulH5315 desirethH0183; then he would answerH0559 him, Nay; but thou shalt giveH5414 it me now: and if not, I will takeH3947 it by forceH2394. 17Wherefore the sinH2403 of the young menH5288 was veryH3966 greatH1419 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068: for menH0582 abhorredH5006 the offeringH4503 of the LORDH3068.

18But SamuelH8050 ministeredH8334 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, being a childH5288, girdedH2296 with a linenH0906 ephodH0646. 19Moreover his motherH0517 madeH6213 him a littleH6996 coatH4598, and broughtH5927 it to him from yearH3117 to yearH3117, when she came upH5927 with her husbandH0376 to offerH2076 the yearlyH3117 sacrificeH2077.

20And EliH5941 blessedH1288 ElkanahH0511 and his wifeH0802, and saidH0559, The LORDH3068 giveH7760 thee seedH2233 of this womanH0802 for the loanH7596 which is lentH7592 to the LORDH3068. And they wentH1980 unto their own homeH4725. 21AndH3588 the LORDH3068 visitedH6485 HannahH2584, so that she conceivedH2029, and bareH3205 threeH7969 sonsH1121 and twoH8147 daughtersH1323. And the childH5288 SamuelH8050 grewH1431 beforeH5973 the LORDH3068.

22Now EliH5941 was veryH3966 oldH2204, and heardH8085 all that his sonsH1121 didH6213 unto all IsraelH3478; and how they layH7901 with the womenH0802 that assembledH6633 at the doorH6607 of the tabernacleH0168 of the congregationH4150. 23And he saidH0559 unto them, Why doH6213 ye such thingsH1697? for I hearH8085 of your evilH7451 dealingsH1697 by all this peopleH5971. 24Nay, my sonsH1121; for it is no goodH2896 reportH8052 that I hearH8085: ye make the LORDsH3068 peopleH5971 to transgressH5674. 25If one manH0376 sinH2398 against anotherH0376, the judgeH0430 shall judgeH6419 him: but if a manH0376 sinH2398 against the LORDH3068, who shall intreatH6419 for him? Notwithstanding they hearkenedH8085 not unto the voiceH6963 of their fatherH0001, because the LORDH3068 wouldH2654 slayH4191 them. 26And the childH5288 SamuelH8050 grewH1432 onH1980, and was in favourH2896 both with the LORDH3068, and also with menH0582.

27And there cameH0935 a manH0376 of GodH0430 unto EliH5941, and saidH0559 unto him, Thus saithH0559 the LORDH3068, Did I plainlyH1540 appearH1540 unto the houseH1004 of thy fatherH0001, when they were in EgyptH4714 in PharaohsH6547 houseH1004? 28And did I chooseH0977 him out of all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478 to be my priestH3548, to offerH5927 upon mine altarH4196, to burnH6999 incenseH7004, to wearH5375 an ephodH0646 beforeH6440 me? and did I giveH5414 unto the houseH1004 of thy fatherH0001 all the offerings made by fireH0801 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478? 29Wherefore kickH1163 ye at my sacrificeH2077 and at mine offeringH4503, which I have commandedH6680 in my habitationH4583; and honourestH3513 thy sonsH1121 above me, to make yourselves fatH1254 with the chiefestH7225 of all the offeringsH4503 of IsraelH3478 my peopleH5971? 30Wherefore the LORDH3068 GodH0430 of IsraelH3478 saithH5002, I saidH0559 indeedH0559 that thy houseH1004, and the houseH1004 of thy fatherH0001, should walkH1980 beforeH6440 me forH5704 everH5769: but now the LORDH3068 saithH5002, Be it far from meH2486; for them that honourH3513 me I will honourH3513, and they that despiseH0959 me shall be lightly esteemedH7043. 31Behold, the daysH3117 comeH0935, that I will cut offH1438 thine armH2220, and the armH2220 of thy fathersH0001 houseH1004, that there shall not be an old manH2205 in thine houseH1004. 32And thou shalt seeH5027 an enemyH6862 in my habitationH4583, in all the wealth which God shall giveH3190 IsraelH3478: and there shall not be an old manH2205 in thine houseH1004 for everH3117. 33And the manH0376 of thine, whom I shall not cut offH3772 from mine altarH4196, shall be to consumeH3615 thine eyesH5869, and to grieveH0109 thine heartH5315: and all the increaseH4768 of thine houseH1004 shall dieH4191 in the flower of their ageH0582. 34And this shall be a signH0226 unto thee, that shall comeH0935 upon thy twoH8147 sonsH1121, on HophniH2652 and PhinehasH6372; in oneH0259 dayH3117 they shall dieH4191 bothH8147 of them. 35And I will raise me upH6965 a faithfulH0539 priestH3548, that shall doH6213 according to that which is in mine heartH3824 and in my mindH5315: and I will buildH1129 him a sureH0539 houseH1004; and he shall walkH1980 beforeH6440 mine anointedH4899 for everH3117. 36And it shall come to pass, that every one that is leftH3498 in thine houseH1004 shall comeH0935 and crouchH7812 to him for a pieceH0095 of silverH3701 and a morselH3603 of breadH3899, and shall sayH0559, PutH5596 me, I pray thee, into oneH0259 of the priestsofficesH3550, that I may eatH0398 a pieceH6595 of breadH3899.

1 Samuel: Chapter 3

1And the childH5288 SamuelH8050 ministeredH8334 unto the LORDH3068 beforeH6440 EliH5941. And the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 was preciousH3368 in those daysH3117; there was no openH6555 visionH2377. 2And it came to pass at that timeH3117, when EliH5941 was laid downH7901 in his placeH4725, and his eyesH5869 beganH2490 to wax dimH3544, that he couldH3201 not seeH7200; 3And ere the lampH5216 of GodH0430 went outH3518 in the templeH1964 of the LORDH3068, where the arkH0727 of GodH0430 was , and SamuelH8050 was laid downH7901 to sleep; 4That the LORDH3068 calledH7121 SamuelH8050: and he answeredH0559, Here am I. 5And he ranH7323 unto EliH5941, and saidH0559, Here am IH2009; for thou calledstH7121 me. And he saidH0559, I calledH7121 not; lie downH7901 againH7725. And he wentH3212 and lay downH7901. 6And the LORDH3068 calledH7121 yet againH3254, SamuelH8050. And SamuelH8050 aroseH6965 and wentH3212 to EliH5941, and saidH0559, Here am I; for thou didst callH7121 me. And he answeredH0559, I calledH7121 not, my sonH1121; lie downH7901 againH7725. 7Now SamuelH8050 did not yetH2962 knowH3045 the LORDH3068, neither was the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 yet revealedH1540 unto him. 8And the LORDH3068 calledH7121 SamuelH8050 againH3254 the third timeH7992. And he aroseH6965 and wentH3212 to EliH5941, and saidH0559, Here am I; for thou didst callH7121 me. And EliH5941 perceivedH0995 that the LORDH3068 had calledH7121 the childH5288. 9Therefore EliH5941 saidH0559 unto SamuelH8050, GoH3212, lie downH7901: and it shall be, if he callH7121 thee, that thou shalt sayH0559, SpeakH1696, LORDH3068; for thy servantH5650 hearethH8085. So SamuelH8050 wentH3212 and lay downH7901 in his placeH4725. 10And the LORDH3068 cameH0935, and stoodH3320, and calledH7121 as at other timesH6471, SamuelH8050, SamuelH8050. Then SamuelH8050 answeredH0559, SpeakH1696; for thy servantH5650 hearethH8085.

11And the LORDH3068 saidH0559 to SamuelH8050, Behold, I will doH6213 a thingH1697 in IsraelH3478, at which bothH8147 the earsH0241 of every one that hearethH8085 it shall tingleH6750. 12In that dayH3117 I will performH6965 against EliH5941 all things which I have spokenH1696 concerningH0413 his houseH1004: when I beginH2490, I will also make an endH3615. 13For I have toldH5046 him that I will judgeH8199 his houseH1004 forH5704 everH5769 for the iniquityH5771 which he knowethH3045; because his sonsH1121 made themselves vileH7043, and he restrainedH3543 them not. 14And therefore I have swornH7650 unto the houseH1004 of EliH5941, that the iniquityH5771 of ElisH5941 houseH1004 shall not be purgedH3722 with sacrificeH2077 nor offeringH4503 forH5704 everH5769.

15And SamuelH8050 layH7901 until the morningH1242, and openedH6605 the doorsH1817 of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068. And SamuelH8050 fearedH3372 to shewH5046 EliH5941 the visionH4759. 16Then EliH5941 calledH7121 SamuelH8050, and saidH0559, SamuelH8050, my sonH1121. And he answeredH0559, Here am I. 17And he saidH0559, What is the thingH1697 that the Lord hath saidH1696 unto thee? I pray thee hideH3582 it not from me: GodH0430 do soH6213 to thee, and more alsoH3254, if thou hideH3582 any thingH1697 from me of all the thingsH1697 that he saidH1696 unto thee. 18And SamuelH8050 toldH5046 him every whitH1697, and hidH3582 nothing from him. And he saidH0559, It is the LORDH3068: let him doH6213 what seemethH5869 him goodH2896.

19And SamuelH8050 grewH1431, and the LORDH3068 was with him, and did let none of his wordsH1697 fallH5307 to the groundH0776. 20And all IsraelH3478 from DanH1835 even to Beer-shebaH0884 knewH3045 that SamuelH8050 was establishedH0539 to be a prophetH5030 of the LORDH3068. 21And the LORDH3068 appearedH7200 againH3254 in ShilohH7887: for the LORDH3068 revealedH1540 himself to SamuelH8050 in ShilohH7887 by the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068.

1 Samuel: Chapter 4

1And the wordH1697 of SamuelH8050 came to all IsraelH3478. Now IsraelH3478 went outH3318 againstH7125 the PhilistinesH6430 to battleH4421, and pitchedH2583 beside Eben-ezerH0072: and the PhilistinesH6430 pitchedH2583 in AphekH0663. 2And the PhilistinesH6430 put themselves in arrayH6186 againstH7125 IsraelH3478: and when they joinedH5203 battleH4421, IsraelH3478 was smittenH5062 beforeH6440 the PhilistinesH6430: and they slewH5221 of the armyH4634 in the fieldH7704 about fourH0702 thousandH0505 menH0376.

3And when the peopleH5971 were comeH0935 into the campH4264, the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 saidH0559, Wherefore hath the LORDH3068 smittenH5062 us to dayH3117 beforeH6440 the PhilistinesH6430? Let us fetchH3947 the arkH0727 of the covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068 out of ShilohH7887 unto us, that, when it comethH0935 amongH7130 us, it may saveH3467 us out of the handH3709 of our enemiesH0341. 4So the peopleH5971 sentH7971 to ShilohH7887, that they might bringH5375 from thence the arkH0727 of the covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, which dwellethH3427 between the cherubimsH3742: and the twoH8147 sonsH1121 of EliH5941, HophniH2652 and PhinehasH6372, were there with the arkH0727 of the covenantH1285 of GodH0430. 5And when the arkH0727 of the covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068 cameH0935 into the campH4264, all IsraelH3478 shoutedH7321 with a greatH1419 shoutH8643, so that the earthH0776 rang againH1949. 6And when the PhilistinesH6430 heardH8085 the noiseH6963 of the shoutH8643, they saidH0559, What meaneth the noiseH6963 of this greatH1419 shoutH8643 in the campH4264 of the HebrewsH5680? And they understoodH3045 that the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068 was comeH0935 into the campH4264. 7And the PhilistinesH6430 were afraidH3372, for they saidH0559, GodH0430 is comeH0935 into the campH4264. And they saidH0559, WoeH0188 unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretoforeH0865. 8WoeH0188 unto us! who shall deliverH5337 us out of the handH3027 of these mightyH0117 GodsH0430? these are the GodsH0430 that smoteH5221 the EgyptiansH4714 with all the plaguesH4347 in the wildernessH4057. 9Be strongH2388, and quitH1961 yourselves like menH0582, O ye PhilistinesH6430, that ye be not servantsH5647 unto the HebrewsH5680, as they have beenH5647 to you: quitH1961 yourselves like menH0582, and fightH3898.

10And the PhilistinesH6430 foughtH3898, and IsraelH3478 was smittenH5062, and they fledH5127 every manH0376 into his tentH0168: and there was a veryH3966 greatH1419 slaughterH4347; for there fellH5307 of IsraelH3478 thirtyH7970 thousandH0505 footmenH7273. 11And the arkH0727 of GodH0430 was takenH3947; and the twoH8147 sonsH1121 of EliH5941, HophniH2652 and PhinehasH6372, were slainH4191.

12And there ranH7323 a manH0376 of BenjaminH1144 out of the armyH4634, and cameH0935 to ShilohH7887 the same dayH3117 with his clothesH4055 rentH7167, and with earthH0127 upon his headH7218. 13And when he cameH0935, lo, EliH5941 satH3427 upon a seatH3678 by the waysideH1870 watchingH6822: for his heartH3820 trembledH2730 for the arkH0727 of GodH0430. And when the manH0376 cameH0935 into the cityH5892, and toldH5046 it , all the cityH5892 cried outH2199. 14And when EliH5941 heardH8085 the noiseH6963 of the cryingH6818, he saidH0559, What meaneth the noiseH6963 of this tumultH1995? And the manH0376 cameH0935 in hastilyH4116, and toldH5046 EliH5941. 15Now EliH5941 was ninetyH8673 and eightH8083 yearsH8141 oldH1121; and his eyesH5869 were dimH6965, that he couldH3201 not seeH7200. 16And the manH0376 saidH0559 unto EliH5941, I is);"> am he that cameH0935 out of the armyH4634, and I fledH5127 to dayH3117 out of the armyH4634. And he saidH0559, What is there doneH1697, my sonH1121?
17And the messengerH1319 answeredH6030 and saidH0559, IsraelH3478 is fledH5127 beforeH6440 the PhilistinesH6430, and there hath been also a greatH1419 slaughterH4046 among the peopleH5971, and thy twoH8147 sonsH1121 also, HophniH2652 and PhinehasH6372, are deadH4191, and the arkH0727 of GodH0430 is takenH3947. 18And it came to pass, when he made mentionH2142 of the arkH0727 of GodH0430, that he fellH5307 from off the seatH3678 backwardH0322 byH1157 the sideH3027 of the gateH8179, and his neckH4665 brakeH7665, and he diedH4191: for he was an oldH2204 manH0376, and heavyH3513. And he had judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 fortyH0705 yearsH8141.

19And his daughter in lawH3618, PhinehasH6372 wifeH0802, was with childH2030, near to be deliveredH3205: and when she heardH8085 the tidingsH8052 thatH0413 the arkH0727 of GodH0430 was takenH3947, and that her father in lawH2524 and her husbandH0376 were deadH4191, she bowedH3766 herself and travailedH3205; for her painsH6735 cameH2015 upon her. 20And about the timeH6256 of her deathH4191 the women that stoodH5324 by her saidH1696 unto her, FearH3372 not; for thou hast bornH3205 a sonH1121. But she answeredH6030 not, neither did she regardH7896 it . 21And she namedH7121 the childH5288 I-chabodH0350, sayingH0559, The gloryH3519 is departedH1540 from IsraelH3478: becauseH0413 the arkH0727 of GodH0430 was takenH3947, and because of her father in lawH2524 and her husbandH0376. 22And she saidH0559, The gloryH3519 is departedH1540 from IsraelH3478: for the arkH0727 of GodH0430 is takenH3947.

1 Samuel: Chapter 5

1And the PhilistinesH6430 tookH3947 the arkH0727 of GodH0430, and broughtH0935 it from Eben-ezerH0072 unto AshdodH0795. 2When the PhilistinesH6430 tookH3947 the arkH0727 of GodH0430, they broughtH0935 it into the houseH1004 of DagonH1712, and setH3322 it byH0681 DagonH1712.

3And when they of AshdodH0796 arose earlyH7925 on the morrowH4283, behold, DagonH1712 was fallenH5307 upon his faceH6440 to the earthH0776 beforeH6440 the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068. And they tookH3947 DagonH1712, and setH7725 him in his placeH4725 againH7725. 4And when they arose earlyH7925 on the morrowH4283 morningH1242, behold, DagonH1712 was fallenH5307 upon his faceH6440 to the groundH0776 beforeH6440 the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068; and the headH7218 of DagonH1712 and bothH8147 the palmsH3709 of his handsH3027 were cut offH3772 upon the thresholdH4670; only the stump of DagonH1712 was leftH7604 to him. 5Therefore neither the priestsH3548 of DagonH1712, nor any that comeH0935 into DagonsH1712 houseH1004, treadH1869 on the thresholdH4670 of DagonH1712 in AshdodH0795 unto this dayH3117.

6But the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 was heavyH3513 upon them of AshdodH0796, and he destroyedH8074 them, and smoteH5221 them with emerodsH2914, even AshdodH0795 and the coastsH1366 thereof. 7And when the menH0582 of AshdodH0795 sawH7200 that it was so, they saidH0559, The arkH0727 of the GodH0430 of IsraelH3478 shall not abideH3427 with us: for his handH3027 is soreH7185 upon us, and upon DagonH1712 our godH0430. 8They sentH7971 therefore and gatheredH0622 all the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430 unto them, and saidH0559, What shall we doH6213 with the arkH0727 of the GodH0430 of IsraelH3478? And they answeredH0559, Let the arkH0727 of the GodH0430 of IsraelH3478 be carried aboutH5437 unto GathH1661. And they carriedH5437 the arkH0727 of the GodH0430 of IsraelH3478 aboutH5437 thither . 9And it was so , that, afterH0310 they had carried it aboutH5437, the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 was against the cityH5892 with a veryH3966 greatH1419 destructionH4103: and he smoteH5221 the menH0582 of the cityH5892, both smallH6996 and greatH1419, and they had emerodsH2914 in their secret partsH8368.

10Therefore they sentH7971 the arkH0727 of GodH0430 to EkronH6138. And it came to pass, as the arkH0727 of GodH0430 cameH0935 to EkronH6138, that the EkronitesH6139 cried outH2199, sayingH0559, They have brought aboutH5437 the arkH0727 of the GodH0430 of IsraelH3478 to us, to slayH4191 us and our peopleH5971. 11So they sentH7971 and gathered togetherH0622 all the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430, and saidH0559, Send awayH7971 the arkH0727 of the GodH0430 of IsraelH3478, and let it go againH7725 to his own placeH4725, that it slayH4191 us not, and our peopleH5971: for there was a deadlyH4194 destructionH4103 throughout all the cityH5892; the handH3027 of GodH0430 was veryH3966 heavyH3513 there. 12And the menH0582 that diedH4191 not were smittenH5221 with the emerodsH2914: and the cryH7775 of the cityH5892 went upH5927 to heavenH8064.

1 Samuel: Chapter 6

1And the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068 was in the countryH7704 of the PhilistinesH6430 sevenH7651 monthsH2320. 2And the PhilistinesH6430 calledH7121 for the priestsH3548 and the divinersH7080, sayingH0559, What shall we doH6213 to the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068? tellH3045 us wherewith we shall sendH7971 it to his placeH4725. 3And they saidH0559, If ye send awayH7971 the arkH0727 of the GodH0430 of IsraelH3478, sendH7971 it not emptyH7387; but in any wiseH7725 returnH7725 him a trespass offeringH0817: then ye shall be healedH7495, and it shall be knownH3045 to you why his handH3027 is not removedH5493 from you. 4Then saidH0559 they, What shall be the trespass offeringH0817 which we shall returnH7725 to him? They answeredH0559, FiveH2568 goldenH2091 emerodsH2914, and fiveH2568 goldenH2091 miceH5909, according to the numberH4557 of the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430: for oneH0259 plagueH4046 was on you all, and on your lordsH5633. 5Wherefore ye shall makeH6213 imagesH6754 of your emerodsH2914, and imagesH6754 of your miceH5909 that marH7843 the landH0776; and ye shall giveH5414 gloryH3519 unto the GodH0430 of IsraelH3478: peradventure he will lightenH7043 his handH3027 from off you, and from off your godsH0430, and from off your landH0776. 6Wherefore then do ye hardenH3513 your heartsH3824, as the EgyptiansH4714 and PharaohH6547 hardenedH3513 their heartsH3820? when he had wrought wonderfullyH5953 among them, did they not let the people goH7971, and they departedH3212? 7Now therefore makeH6213 aH0259 newH2319 cartH5699, and takeH3947 twoH8147 milchH5763 kineH6510, on which there hath comeH5927 no yokeH5923, and tieH0631 the kineH6510 to the cartH5699, and bringH7725 their calvesH1121 homeH1004 from themH0310: 8And takeH3947 the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068, and layH5414 it upon the cartH5699; and putH7760 the jewelsH3627 of goldH2091, which ye returnH7725 him for a trespass offeringH0817, in a cofferH0712 by the sideH6654 thereof; and send it awayH7971, that it may goH1980. 9And seeH7200, if it goeth upH5927 by the wayH1870 of his own coastH1366 to Beth-shemeshH1053, then he hath doneH6213 us this greatH1419 evilH7451: but if not, then we shall knowH3045 that it is not his handH3027 that smoteH5060 us; it was a chanceH4745 that happened to usH1961.

10And the menH0582 did soH6213; and tookH3947 twoH8147 milchH5763 kineH6510, and tiedH0631 them to the cartH5699, and shut upH3607 their calvesH1121 at homeH1004: 11And they laidH7760 the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068 upon the cartH5699, and the cofferH0712 with the miceH5909 of goldH2091 and the imagesH6754 of their emerodsH2914. 12And the kineH6510 took the straightH3474 wayH1870 to the wayH1870 of Beth-shemeshH1053, and went alongH1980 the highwayH4546, lowingH1600 as they wentH1980, and turned not asideH5493 to the right handH3225 or to the leftH8040; and the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430 wentH1980 afterH0310 them unto the borderH1366 of Beth-shemeshH1053. 13And they of Beth-shemeshH1053 were reapingH7114 their wheatH2406 harvestH7105 in the valleyH6010: and they lifted upH5375 their eyesH5869, and sawH7200 the arkH0727, and rejoicedH8055 to seeH7200 it . 14And the cartH5699 cameH0935 into the fieldH7704 of JoshuaH3091, a Beth-shemiteH1030, and stoodH5975 there, where there was a greatH1419 stoneH0068: and they claveH1234 the woodH6086 of the cartH5699, and offeredH5927 the kineH6510 a burnt offeringH5930 unto the LORDH3068. 15And the LevitesH3881 took downH3381 the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068, and the cofferH0712 that was with it, wherein the jewelsH3627 of goldH2091 were , and putH7760 them on the greatH1419 stoneH0068: and the menH0582 of Beth-shemeshH1053 offeredH5927 burnt offeringsH5930 and sacrificedH2076 sacrificesH2077 the same dayH3117 unto the LORDH3068. 16And when the fiveH2568 lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430 had seenH7200 it , they returnedH7725 to EkronH6138 the same dayH3117. 17And these are the goldenH2091 emerodsH2914 which the PhilistinesH6430 returnedH7725 for a trespass offeringH0817 unto the LORDH3068; for AshdodH0795 oneH0259, for GazaH5804 oneH0259, for AskelonH0831 oneH0259, for GathH1661 oneH0259, for EkronH6138 oneH0259; 18And the goldenH2091 miceH5909, according to the numberH4557 of all the citiesH5892 of the PhilistinesH6430 belonging to the fiveH2568 lordsH5633, both of fencedH4013 citiesH5892, and of countryH6521 villagesH3724, even unto the greatH1419 stone of AbelH0059, whereon they set downH3240 the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068: which stone remaineth unto this dayH3117 in the fieldH7704 of JoshuaH3091, the Beth-shemiteH1030.

19And he smoteH5221 the menH0376 of Beth-shemeshH1053, because they had lookedH7200 into the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068, even he smoteH5221 of the peopleH5971 fiftyH2572 thousandH0505 and threescore and tenH7657 menH0582: and the peopleH5971 lamentedH0056, because the LORDH3068 had smittenH5221 many of the peopleH5971 with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347. 20And the menH0582 of Beth-shemeshH1053 saidH0559, Who is ableH3201 to standH5975 beforeH6440 this holyH6918 LORDH3068 GodH0430? and to whom shall he go upH5927 from us?

21And they sentH7971 messengersH4397 to the inhabitantsH3427 of Kirjath-jearimH7157, sayingH0559, The PhilistinesH6430 have brought againH7725 the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068; come ye downH3381, and fetch it upH5927 to you.

1 Samuel: Chapter 7

1And the menH0582 of Kirjath-jearimH7157 cameH0935, and fetched upH5927 the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068, and broughtH0935 it into the houseH1004 of AbinadabH0041 in the hillH1389, and sanctifiedH6942 EleazarH0499 his sonH1121 to keepH8104 the arkH0727 of the LORDH3068. 2And it came to pass, whileH3117 the arkH0727 abodeH3427 in Kirjath-jearimH7157, that the timeH3117 was longH7235; for it was twentyH6242 yearsH8141: and all the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 lamentedH5091 afterH0310 the LORDH3068.

3And SamuelH8050 spakeH0559 unto all the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, sayingH0559, If ye do returnH7725 unto the LORDH3068 with all your heartsH3824, then put awayH5493 the strangeH5236 godsH0430 and AshtarothH6252 from amongH8432 you, and prepareH3559 your heartsH3824 unto the LORDH3068, and serveH5647 him only: and he will deliverH5337 you out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. 4Then the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 did put awayH5493 BaalimH1168 and AshtarothH6252, and servedH5647 the LORDH3068 only. 5And SamuelH8050 saidH0559, GatherH6908 all IsraelH3478 to MizpehH4708, and I will prayH6419 for you unto the LORDH3068. 6And they gathered togetherH6908 to MizpehH4709, and drewH7579 waterH4325, and poured it outH8210 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and fastedH6684 on that dayH3117, and saidH0559 there, We have sinnedH2398 against the LORDH3068. And SamuelH8050 judgedH8199 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 in MizpehH4708.

7And when the PhilistinesH6430 heardH8085 that the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 were gathered togetherH6908 to MizpehH4708, the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430 went upH5927 against IsraelH3478. And when the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 heardH8085 it , they were afraidH3372 ofH6440 the PhilistinesH6430. 8And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 saidH0559 to SamuelH8050, CeaseH2790 not to cryH2199 unto the LORDH3068 our GodH0430 for us, that he will saveH3467 us out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430.

9And SamuelH8050 tookH3947 aH0259 suckingH2461 lambH2924, and offeredH5927 it for a burnt offeringH5930 whollyH3632 unto the LORDH3068: and SamuelH8050 criedH2199 unto the LORDH3068 for IsraelH3478; and the LORDH3068 heardH6030 him. 10And as SamuelH8050 was offering upH5927 the burnt offeringH5930, the PhilistinesH6430 drew nearH5066 to battleH4421 against IsraelH3478: but the LORDH3068 thunderedH7481 with a greatH1419 thunderH6963 on that dayH3117 upon the PhilistinesH6430, and discomfitedH2000 them; and they were smittenH5062 beforeH6440 IsraelH3478. 11And the menH0582 of IsraelH3478 went outH3318 of MizpehH4709, and pursuedH7291 the PhilistinesH6430, and smoteH5221 them, until they came under Beth-carH1033. 12Then SamuelH8050 tookH3947 aH0259 stoneH0068, and setH7760 it between MizpehH4709 and ShenH8129, and calledH7121 the nameH8034 of it Eben-ezerH0072, sayingH0559, Hitherto hath the LORDH3068 helpedH5826 us.

13So the PhilistinesH6430 were subduedH3665, and they cameH0935 no moreH3254 into the coastH1366 of IsraelH3478: and the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 was against the PhilistinesH6430 all the daysH3117 of SamuelH8050. 14And the citiesH5892 which the PhilistinesH6430 had takenH3947 from IsraelH3478 were restoredH7725 to IsraelH3478, from EkronH6138 even unto GathH1661; and the coastsH1366 thereof did IsraelH3478 deliverH5337 out of the handsH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. And there was peaceH7965 between IsraelH3478 and the AmoritesH0567. 15And SamuelH8050 judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 all the daysH3117 of his lifeH2416. 16And he wentH1980 fromH1767 yearH8141 to yearH8141 in circuitH5437 to Beth-elH1008, and GilgalH1537, and MizpehH4709, and judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 in all those placesH4725. 17And his returnH8666 was to RamahH7414; for there was his houseH1004; and there he judgedH8199 IsraelH3478; and there he builtH1129 an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068.

1 Samuel: Chapter 8

1And it came to pass, when SamuelH8050 was oldH2204, that he madeH7760 his sonsH1121 judgesH8199 over IsraelH3478. 2Now the nameH8034 of his firstbornH1121 was JoelH3100; and the nameH8034 of his secondH4932, AbiahH0029: they were judgesH8199 in Beer-shebaH0884. 3And his sonsH1121 walkedH1980 not in his waysH1870, but turned asideH5186 afterH0310 lucreH1215, and tookH3947 bribesH7810, and pervertedH5186 judgmentH4941.

4Then all the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 gathered themselves togetherH6908, and cameH0935 to SamuelH8050 unto RamahH7414, 5And saidH0559 unto him, Behold, thou art oldH2204, and thy sonsH1121 walkH1980 not in thy waysH1870: now makeH7760 us a kingH4428 to judgeH8199 us like all the nationsH1471.

6But the thingH1697 displeasedH3415 SamuelH8050, when they saidH0559, GiveH5414 us a kingH4428 to judgeH8199 us. And SamuelH8050 prayedH6419 unto the LORDH3068. 7And the LORDH3068 saidH0559 unto SamuelH8050, HearkenH8085 unto the voiceH6963 of the peopleH5971 in all that they sayH0559 unto thee: for they have not rejectedH3988 thee, but they have rejectedH3988 me, that I should not reignH4427 over them. 8According to all the worksH4639 which they have doneH6213 since the dayH3117 that I brought them upH5927 out of EgyptH4714 even unto this dayH3117, wherewith they have forsakenH5800 me, and servedH5647 otherH0312 godsH0430, so doH6213 they also unto thee. 9Now therefore hearkenH8085 unto their voiceH6963: howbeitH0389 yet protestH5749 solemnlyH5749 unto them, and shewH5046 them the mannerH4941 of the kingH4428 that shall reignH4427 over them.

10And SamuelH8050 toldH0559 all the wordsH1697 of the LORDH3068 unto the peopleH5971 that askedH7592 of him a kingH4428. 11And he saidH0559, This will be the mannerH4941 of the kingH4428 that shall reignH4427 over you: He will takeH3947 your sonsH1121, and appointH7760 them for himself, for his chariotsH4818, and to be his horsemenH6571; and some shall runH7323 beforeH6440 his chariotsH4818. 12And he will appointH7760 him captainsH8269 over thousandsH0505, and captainsH8269 over fiftiesH2572; and will set them to earH2790 his groundH2758, and to reapH7114 his harvestH7105, and to makeH6213 his instrumentsH3627 of warH4421, and instrumentsH3627 of his chariotsH7393. 13And he will takeH3947 your daughtersH1323 to be confectionariesH7548, and to be cooksH2879, and to be bakersH0644. 14And he will takeH3947 your fieldsH7704, and your vineyardsH3754, and your oliveyardsH2132, even the bestH2896 of them , and giveH5414 them to his servantsH5650. 15And he will take the tenthH6237 of your seedH2233, and of your vineyardsH3754, and giveH5414 to his officersH5631, and to his servantsH5650. 16And he will takeH3947 your menservantsH5650, and your maidservantsH8198, and your goodliestH2896 young menH0970, and your assesH2543, and putH6213 them to his workH4399. 17He will take the tenthH6237 of your sheepH6629: and ye shall be his servantsH5650. 18And ye shall cry outH2199 in that dayH3117 becauseH6440 of your kingH4428 which ye shall have chosenH0977 you; and the LORDH3068 will not hearH6030 you in that dayH3117.

19Nevertheless the peopleH5971 refusedH3985 to obeyH8085 the voiceH6963 of SamuelH8050; and they saidH0559, Nay; but we will have a kingH4428 over us; 20That we also may be like all the nationsH1471; and that our kingH4428 may judgeH8199 us, and go outH3318 beforeH6440 us, and fightH3898 our battlesH4421. 21And SamuelH8050 heardH8085 all the wordsH1697 of the peopleH5971, and he rehearsedH1696 them in the earsH0241 of the LORDH3068. 22And the LORDH3068 saidH0559 to SamuelH8050, HearkenH8085 unto their voiceH6963, and makeH4427 them a kingH4428. And SamuelH8050 saidH0559 unto the menH0582 of IsraelH3478, GoH3212 ye every manH0376 unto his cityH5892.

1 Samuel: Chapter 9

1Now there was a manH0376 of BenjaminH1144, whose nameH8034 was KishH7027, the sonH1121 of AbielH0022, the sonH1121 of ZerorH6872, the sonH1121 of BechorathH1064, the sonH1121 of AphiahH0647, a BenjamiteH1145, a mightyH1368 manH0376 of powerH2428. 2And he had a sonH1121, whose nameH8034 was SaulH7586, a choice young manH0970, and a goodlyH2896: and there was not among the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 a goodlierH2896 personH0376 than he: from his shouldersH7926 and upwardH4605 he was higherH1364 than any of the peopleH5971.

3And the assesH0860 of KishH7027 SaulsH7586 fatherH0001 were lostH0006. And KishH7027 saidH0559 to SaulH7586 his sonH1121, TakeH3947 now oneH0259 of the servantsH5288 with thee, and ariseH6965, goH3212 seekH1245 the assesH0860. 4And he passed throughH5674 mountH2022 EphraimH0669, and passed throughH5674 the landH0776 of ShalishaH8031, but they foundH4672 them not: then they passed throughH5674 the landH0776 of ShalimH8171, and there they were not: and he passed throughH5674 the landH0776 of the BenjamitesH1145, but they foundH4672 them not. 5 And when they were comeH0935 to the landH0776 of ZuphH6689, SaulH7586 saidH0559 to his servantH5288 that was with him, ComeH3212, and let us returnH7725; lest my fatherH0001 leaveH2308 caring for the assesH0860, and take thoughtH1672 for us. 6And he saidH0559 unto him, Behold now, there is in this cityH5892 a manH0376 of GodH0430, and he is an honourableH3513 manH0376; all that he saithH1696 comethH0935 surely to passH0935: now let us goH3212 thither; peradventure he can shewH5046 us our wayH1870 that we should goH1980. 7Then saidH0559 SaulH7586 to his servantH5288, But, behold, if we goH3212, what shall we bringH0935 the manH0376? for the breadH3899 is spentH0235 in our vesselsH3627, and there is not a presentH8670 to bringH0935 to the manH0376 of GodH0430: what have we? 8And the servantH5288 answeredH6030 SaulH7586 againH3254, and saidH0559, Behold, I haveH4672 here at handH3027 the fourth partH7253 of a shekelH8255 of silverH3701: that will I giveH5414 to the manH0376 of GodH0430, to tellH5046 us our wayH1870. 9(BeforetimeH6440 in IsraelH3478, when a manH0376 wentH3212 to enquireH1875 of GodH0430, thus he spakeH0559, ComeH3212, and let us goH3212 to the seerH7200: for he that is nowH3117 called a ProphetH5030 was beforetimeH6440 calledH7121 a SeerH7200.) 10Then saidH1697 SaulH7586 to his servantH5288, WellH2896 saidH0559; comeH3212, let us goH3212. So they wentH3212 unto the cityH5892 where the manH0376 of GodH0430 was .

11 And as they went upH5927 the hillH4608 to the cityH5892, they foundH4672 young maidensH5291 going outH3318 to drawH7579 waterH4325, and saidH0559 unto them, IsH3426 the seerH7200 here? 12And they answeredH6030 them, and saidH0559, He isH3426; behold, he is beforeH6440 you: make hasteH4116 now, for he cameH0935 to dayH3117 to the cityH5892; for there is a sacrificeH2077 of the peopleH5971 to dayH3117 in the high placeH1116: 13As soon as ye be comeH0935 into the cityH5892, ye shall straightwayH3651 findH4672 him, before he go upH5927 to the high placeH1116 to eatH0398: for the peopleH5971 will not eatH0398 until he comeH0935, because he doth blessH1288 the sacrificeH2077; and afterwardsH0310 they eatH0398 that be biddenH7121. Now therefore get you upH5927; for about this timeH3117 ye shall findH4672 him. 14And they went upH5927 intoH8432 the cityH5892: and when they were comeH0935 into the cityH5892, behold, SamuelH8050 came outH3318 againstH7125 them, for to go upH5927 to the high placeH1116.

15Now the LORDH3068 had toldH1540 SamuelH8050 in his earH0241 aH0259 dayH3117 beforeH6440 SaulH7586 cameH0935, sayingH0559, 16To morrowH4279 about this timeH6256 I will sendH7971 thee a manH0376 out of the landH0776 of BenjaminH1144, and thou shalt anointH4886 him to be captainH5057 over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, that he may saveH3467 my peopleH5971 out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430: for I have lookedH7200 upon my peopleH5971, because their cryH6818 is comeH0935 unto me. 17And when SamuelH8050 sawH7200 SaulH7586, the LORDH3068 saidH6030 unto him, Behold the manH0376 whom I spakeH0559 to thee of! this same shall reignH6113 over my peopleH5971.

18Then SaulH7586 drew nearH5066 to SamuelH8050 inH8432 the gateH8179, and saidH0559, TellH5046 me, I pray thee, whereH0335 the seersH7200 houseH1004 is . 19And SamuelH8050 answeredH6030 SaulH7586, and saidH0559, I am the seerH7200: go upH5927 beforeH6440 me unto the high placeH1116; for ye shall eatH0398 with me to dayH3117, and to morrowH1242 I will let thee goH7971, and will tellH5046 thee all that is in thine heartH3824. 20And as for thine assesH0860 that were lostH0006 threeH7969 daysH3117 agoH3117, setH7760 not thy mindH3820 on them; for they are foundH4672. And on whom is all the desireH2532 of IsraelH3478? Is it not on thee, and on all thy fathersH0001 houseH1004? 21And SaulH7586 answeredH6030 and saidH0559, Am not I a BenjamiteH1145, of the smallestH6996 of the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478? and my familyH4940 the leastH6810 of all the familiesH4940 of the tribeH7626 of BenjaminH1144? wherefore then speakestH1696 thou soH1697 to me? 22And SamuelH8050 tookH3947 SaulH7586 and his servantH5288, and broughtH0935 them into the parlourH3957, and made them sitH5414 in the chiefestH7218 placeH4725 among them that were biddenH7121, which were about thirtyH7970 personsH0376. 23And SamuelH8050 saidH0559 unto the cookH2876, BringH5414 the portionH4490 which I gaveH5414 thee, of which I saidH0559 unto thee, SetH7760 it by thee. 24And the cookH2876 took upH7311 the shoulderH7785, and that which was upon it, and setH7760 it beforeH6440 SaulH7586. And Samuel saidH0559, Behold that which is leftH7604! setH7760 it beforeH6440 thee, and eatH0398: for unto this timeH4150 hath it been keptH8104 for thee since I saidH0559, I have invitedH7121 the peopleH5971. So SaulH7586 did eatH0398 with SamuelH8050 that dayH3117.

25And when they were come downH3381 from the high placeH1116 into the cityH5892, Samuel communedH1696 with SaulH7586 upon the top of the houseH1406. 26And they arose earlyH7925: and it came to pass about the springH5927 of the dayH7837, that SamuelH8050 calledH7121 SaulH7586 to the top of the houseH1406, sayingH0559, UpH6965, that I may send thee awayH7971. And SaulH7586 aroseH6965, and they went outH3318 bothH8147 of them, he and SamuelH8050, abroadH2351. 27 And as they were going downH3381 to the endH7097 of the cityH5892, SamuelH8050 saidH0559 to SaulH7586, BidH0559 the servantH5288 pass onH5674 beforeH6440 us, (and he passed onH5674,) but standH5975 thou still a whileH3117, that I may shewH8085 thee the wordH1697 of GodH0430.

1 Samuel: Chapter 10

1Then SamuelH8050 tookH3947 a vialH6378 of oilH8081, and pouredH3332 it upon his headH7218, and kissedH5401 him, and saidH0559, Is it not because the LORDH3068 hath anointedH4886 thee to be captainH5057 over his inheritanceH5159? 2When thou art departedH3212 from meH5978 to dayH3117, then thou shalt findH4672 twoH8147 menH0582 by RachelsH7354 sepulchreH6900 in the borderH1366 of BenjaminH1144 at ZelzahH6766; and they will sayH0559 unto thee, The assesH0860 which thou wentestH1980 to seekH1245 are foundH4672: and, lo, thy fatherH0001 hath leftH5203 the careH1697 of the assesH0860, and sorrowethH1672 for you, sayingH0559, What shall I doH6213 for my sonH1121? 3Then shalt thou go onH2498 forwardH1973 from thence, and thou shalt comeH0935 to the plainH0436 of TaborH8396, and there shall meetH4672 thee threeH7969 menH0582 going upH5927 to GodH0430 to Beth-elH1008, oneH0259 carryingH5375 threeH7969 kidsH1423, and anotherH0259 carryingH5375 threeH7969 loavesH3603 of breadH3899, and anotherH0259 carryingH5375 a bottleH5035 of wineH3196: 4And they willH7592 saluteH7965 thee, and giveH5414 thee twoH8147 loaves of breadH3899; which thou shalt receiveH3947 of their handsH3027. 5AfterH0310 that thou shalt comeH0935 to the hillH1389 of GodH0430, where is the garrisonH5333 of the PhilistinesH6430: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thitherH0935 to the cityH5892, that thou shalt meetH6293 a companyH2256 of prophetsH5030 coming downH3381 from the high placeH1116 with a psalteryH5035, and a tabretH8596, and a pipeH2485, and a harpH3658, beforeH6440 them; and they shall prophesyH5012: 6And the SpiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 will comeH6743 upon thee, and thou shalt prophesyH5012 with them, and shalt be turnedH2015 into anotherH0312 manH0376. 7And let it be, when these signsH0226 are comeH0935 unto thee, that thou doH6213 as occasionH4672 serveH3027 thee; for GodH0430 is with thee. 8And thou shalt go downH3381 beforeH6440 me to GilgalH1537; and, behold, I will come downH3381 unto thee, to offerH5927 burnt offeringsH5930, and to sacrificeH2076 sacrificesH2077 of peace offeringsH8002: sevenH7651 daysH3117 shalt thou tarryH3176, till I comeH0935 to thee, and shewH3045 thee what thou shalt doH6213.

9And it was so , that when he had turnedH6437 his backH7926 to goH3212 from SamuelH8050, GodH0430 gaveH2015 him anotherH0312 heartH3820: and all those signsH0226 cameH0935 to pass that dayH3117. 10And when they cameH0935 thither to the hillH1389, behold, a companyH2256 of prophetsH5030 metH7125 him; and the SpiritH7307 of GodH0430 cameH6743 upon him, and he prophesiedH5012 amongH8432 them. 11And it came to pass, when all that knewH3045 him beforetimeH0865 sawH7200 that, behold, he prophesiedH5012 among the prophetsH5030, then the peopleH5971 saidH0559 oneH0376 to anotherH7453, What is this that is come unto the sonH1121 of KishH7027? Is SaulH7586 also among the prophetsH5030? 12And oneH0376 of the same place answeredH6030 and saidH0559, But who is their fatherH0001? Therefore it became a proverbH4912, Is SaulH7586 also among the prophetsH5030? 13And when he had made an endH3615 of prophesyingH5012, he cameH0935 to the high placeH1116.

14And SaulsH7586 uncleH1730 saidH0559 unto him and to his servantH5288, WhitherH0575 wentH1980 ye? And he saidH0559, To seekH1245 the assesH0860: and when we sawH7200 that they were no whereH0369, we cameH0935 to SamuelH8050. 15And SaulsH7586 uncleH1730 saidH0559, TellH5046 me, I pray thee, what SamuelH8050 saidH0559 unto you. 16And SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto his uncleH1730, He toldH5046 us plainlyH5046 that the assesH0860 were foundH4672. But of the matterH1697 of the kingdomH4410, whereof SamuelH8050 spakeH0559, he toldH5046 him not.

17And SamuelH8050 calledH6817 the peopleH5971 together unto the LORDH3068 to MizpehH4709; 18And saidH0559 unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, Thus saithH0559 the LORDH3068 GodH0430 of IsraelH3478, I brought upH5927 IsraelH3478 out of EgyptH4714, and deliveredH5337 you out of the handH3027 of the EgyptiansH4714, and out of the handH3027 of all kingdomsH4467, and of them that oppressedH3905 you: 19And ye have this dayH3117 rejectedH3988 your GodH0430, who himself savedH3467 you out of all your adversitiesH7451 and your tribulationsH6869; and ye have saidH0559 unto him, Nay , but setH7760 a kingH4428 over us. Now therefore presentH3320 yourselves beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 by your tribesH7626, and by your thousandsH0505. 20And when SamuelH8050 had caused all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478 to come nearH7126, the tribeH7626 of BenjaminH1144 was takenH3920. 21When he had caused the tribeH7626 of BenjaminH1144 to come nearH7126 by their familiesH4940, the familyH4940 of MatriH4309 was takenH3920, and SaulH7586 the sonH1121 of KishH7027 was takenH3920: and when they soughtH1245 him, he could not be foundH4672. 22Therefore they enquiredH7592 of the LORDH3068 further, if the manH0376 should yet comeH0935 thitherH1988. And the LORDH3068 answeredH0559, Behold, he hath hidH2244 himself among the stuffH3627. 23And they ranH7323 and fetchedH3947 him thence: and when he stoodH3320 amongH8432 the peopleH5971, he was higherH1361 than any of the peopleH5971 from his shouldersH7926 and upwardH4605. 24And SamuelH8050 saidH0559 to all the peopleH5971, SeeH7200 ye him whom the LORDH3068 hath chosenH0977, that there is none like him among all the peopleH5971? And all the peopleH5971 shoutedH7321, and saidH0559, God saveH2421 the kingH4428. 25Then SamuelH8050 toldH1696 the peopleH5971 the mannerH4941 of the kingdomH4410, and wroteH3789 it in a bookH5612, and laid it upH3240 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068. And SamuelH8050 sentH7971 all the peopleH5971 awayH7971, every manH0376 to his houseH1004.

26And SaulH7586 also wentH1980 homeH1004 to GibeahH1390; and there wentH3212 with him a band of menH2428, whose heartsH3820 GodH0430 had touchedH5060. 27But the childrenH1121 of BelialH1100 saidH0559, How shall this man saveH3467 us? And they despisedH0959 him, and broughtH0935 him no presentsH4503. But he held his peaceH2790.

1 Samuel: Chapter 11

1Then NahashH5176 the AmmoniteH5984 came upH5927, and encampedH2583 against Jabesh-gileadH3003: and all the menH0582 of JabeshH3003 saidH0559 unto NahashH5176, MakeH3772 a covenantH1285 with us, and we will serveH5647 thee. 2And NahashH5176 the AmmoniteH5984 answeredH0559 them, On thisH2063 condition will I makeH3772 a covenant with you, that I may thrust outH5365 all your rightH3225 eyesH5869, and layH7760 it for a reproachH2781 upon all IsraelH3478. 3And the eldersH2205 of JabeshH3003 saidH0559 unto him, Give us sevenH7651 daysH3117 respiteH7503, that we may sendH7971 messengersH4397 unto all the coastsH1366 of IsraelH3478: and then, if there be no man to saveH3467 us, we will come outH3318 to thee.

4Then cameH0935 the messengersH4397 to GibeahH1390 of SaulH7586, and toldH1696 the tidingsH1697 in the earsH0241 of the peopleH5971: and all the peopleH5971 lifted upH5375 their voicesH6963, and weptH1058.

5And, behold, SaulH7586 cameH0935 afterH0310 the herdH1241 out of the fieldH7704; and SaulH7586 saidH0559, What aileth the peopleH5971 that they weepH1058? And they toldH5608 him the tidingsH1697 of the menH0582 of JabeshH3003. 6And the SpiritH7307 of GodH0430 cameH6743 upon SaulH7586 when he heardH8085 those tidingsH1697, and his angerH0639 was kindledH2734 greatlyH3966. 7And he tookH3947 a yokeH6776 of oxenH1241, and hewed them in piecesH5408, and sentH7971 them throughout all the coastsH1366 of IsraelH3478 by the handsH3027 of messengersH4397, sayingH0559, Whosoever cometh not forthH3318 afterH0310 SaulH7586 and afterH0310 SamuelH8050, so shall it be doneH6213 unto his oxenH1241. And the fearH6343 of the LORDH3068 fellH5307 on the peopleH5971, and they came outH3318 with oneH0259 consentH0376. 8And when he numberedH6485 them in BezekH0966, the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 were threeH7969 hundredH3967 thousandH0505, and the menH0376 of JudahH3063 thirtyH7970 thousandH0505. 9And they saidH0559 unto the messengersH4397 that cameH0935, Thus shall ye sayH0559 unto the menH0376 of Jabesh-gileadH3003, To morrowH4279, by that time the sunH8121 be hotH2527, ye shall have helpH8668. And the messengersH4397 cameH0935 and shewedH5046 it to the menH0582 of JabeshH3003; and they were gladH8055. 10Therefore the menH0582 of JabeshH3003 saidH0559, To morrowH4279 we will come outH3318 unto you, and ye shall doH6213 with us all that seemethH5869 goodH2896 unto you. 11And it was so on the morrowH4283, that SaulH7586 putH7760 the peopleH5971 in threeH7969 companiesH7218; and they cameH0935 into the midstH8432 of the hostH4264 in the morningH1242 watchH0821, and slewH5221 the AmmonitesH5983 until the heatH2527 of the dayH3117: and it came to pass, that they which remainedH7604 were scatteredH6327, so that twoH8147 of them were not leftH7604 togetherH3162.

12And the peopleH5971 saidH0559 unto SamuelH8050, Who is he that saidH0559, Shall SaulH7586 reignH4427 over us? bringH5414 the menH0582, that we may put them to deathH4191. 13And SaulH7586 saidH0559, There shall not a manH0376 be put to deathH4191 this dayH3117: for to dayH3117 the LORDH3068 hath wroughtH6213 salvationH8668 in IsraelH3478. 14Then saidH0559 SamuelH8050 to the peopleH5971, ComeH3212, and let us goH3212 to GilgalH1537, and renewH2318 the kingdomH4410 there. 15And all the peopleH5971 wentH3212 to GilgalH1537; and there they made SaulH7586 kingH4427 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 in GilgalH1537; and there they sacrificedH2076 sacrificesH2077 of peace offeringsH8002 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068; and there SaulH7586 and all the menH0582 of IsraelH3478 rejoicedH8055 greatlyH3966.

1 Samuel: Chapter 12

1And SamuelH8050 saidH0559 unto all IsraelH3478, Behold, I have hearkenedH8085 unto your voiceH6963 in all that ye saidH0559 unto me, and have madeH4427 a kingH4428 over you. 2And now, behold, the kingH4428 walkethH1980 beforeH6440 you: and I am oldH2204 and grayheadedH7867; and, behold, my sonsH1121 are with you: and I have walkedH1980 beforeH6440 you from my childhoodH5271 unto this dayH3117. 3Behold, here I am: witnessH6030 against me before the LORDH3068, and before his anointedH4899: whose oxH7794 have I takenH3947? or whose assH2543 have I takenH3947? or whom have I defraudedH6231? whom have I oppressedH7533? or of whose handH3027 have I received any bribeH3724 to blindH5956 mine eyesH5869 therewith? and I will restoreH7725 it you. 4And they saidH0559, Thou hast not defraudedH6231 us, nor oppressedH7533 us, neither hast thou takenH3947 oughtH3972 of any mansH0376 handH3027. 5And he saidH0559 unto them, The LORDH3068 is witnessH5707 against you, and his anointedH4899 is witnessH5707 this dayH3117, that ye have not foundH4672 oughtH3972 in my handH3027. And they answeredH0559, He is witnessH5707.

6And SamuelH8050 saidH0559 unto the peopleH5971, It is the LORDH3068 that advancedH6213 MosesH4872 and AaronH0175, and that broughtH5927 your fathersH0001 upH5927 out of the landH0776 of EgyptH4714. 7Now therefore stand stillH3320, that I may reasonH8199 with you beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 of all the righteous actsH6666 of the LORDH3068, which he didH6213 to you and to your fathersH0001. 8When JacobH3290 was comeH0935 into EgyptH4714, and your fathersH0001 criedH2199 unto the LORDH3068, then the LORDH3068 sentH7971 MosesH4872 and AaronH0175, which brought forthH3318 your fathersH0001 out of EgyptH4714, and made them dwellH3427 in this placeH4725. 9And when they forgatH7911 the LORDH3068 their GodH0430, he soldH4376 them into the handH3027 of SiseraH5516, captainH8269 of the hostH6635 of HazorH2674, and into the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430, and into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of MoabH4124, and they foughtH3898 against them. 10And they criedH2199 unto the LORDH3068, and saidH0559, We have sinnedH2398, because we have forsakenH5800 the LORDH3068, and have servedH5647 BaalimH1168 and AshtarothH6252: but now deliverH5337 us out of the handH3027 of our enemiesH0341, and we will serveH5647 thee. 11And the LORDH3068 sentH7971 JerubbaalH3378, and BedanH0917, and JephthahH3316, and SamuelH8050, and deliveredH5337 you out of the handH3027 of your enemiesH0341 on every sideH5439, and ye dwelledH3427 safeH0983. 12And when ye sawH7200 that NahashH5176 the kingH4428 of the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983 cameH0935 against you, ye saidH0559 unto me, Nay; but a kingH4428 shall reignH4427 over us: when the LORDH3068 your GodH0430 was your kingH4428. 13Now therefore behold the kingH4428 whom ye have chosenH0977, and whom ye have desiredH7592! and, behold, the LORDH3068 hath setH5414 a kingH4428 over you. 14If ye will fearH3372 the LORDH3068, and serveH5647 him, and obeyH8085 his voiceH6963, and not rebelH4784 against the commandmentH6310 of the LORDH3068, then shall both ye and also the kingH4428 that reignethH4427 over you continue followingH0310 the LORDH3068 your GodH0430: 15But if ye will not obeyH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068, but rebelH4784 against the commandmentH6310 of the LORDH3068, then shall the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 be against you, as it was against your fathersH0001.

16Now thereforeH1571 standH3320 and seeH7200 this greatH1419 thingH1697, which the LORDH3068 will doH6213 before your eyesH5869. 17 Is it not wheatH2406 harvestH7105 to dayH3117? I will callH7121 unto the LORDH3068, and he shall sendH5414 thunderH6963 and rainH4306; that ye may perceiveH3045 and seeH7200 that your wickednessH7451 is greatH7227, which ye have doneH6213 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, in askingH7592 you a kingH4428. 18So SamuelH8050 calledH7121 unto the LORDH3068; and the LORDH3068 sentH5414 thunderH6963 and rainH4306 that dayH3117: and all the peopleH5971 greatlyH3966 fearedH3372 the LORDH3068 and SamuelH8050. 19And all the peopleH5971 saidH0559 unto SamuelH8050, PrayH6419 for thy servantsH5650 unto the LORDH3068 thy GodH0430, that we dieH4191 not: for we have addedH3254 unto all our sinsH2403 this evilH7451, to askH7592 us a kingH4428.

20And SamuelH8050 saidH0559 unto the peopleH5971, FearH3372 not: ye have doneH6213 all this wickednessH7451: yet turn not asideH5493 from followingH0310 the LORDH3068, but serveH5647 the LORDH3068 with all your heartH3824; 21And turn ye not asideH5493: for then should ye go afterH0310 vainH8414 things , which cannot profitH3276 nor deliverH5337; for they are vainH8414. 22For the LORDH3068 will not forsakeH5203 his peopleH5971 for his greatH1419 namesH8034 sake: because it hath pleasedH2974 the LORDH3068 to makeH6213 you his peopleH5971. 23Moreover as for meH0595, God forbidH2486 that I should sinH2398 against the LORDH3068 in ceasingH2308 to prayH6419 for you: but I will teachH3384 you the goodH2896 and the rightH3477 wayH1870: 24Only fearH3372 the LORDH3068, and serveH5647 him in truthH0571 with all your heartH3824: for considerH7200 how great things he hath doneH1431 for you. 25But if ye shall stillH7489 do wickedlyH7489, ye shall be consumedH5595, both ye and your kingH4428.

1 Samuel: Chapter 13

1 SaulH7586 reignedH4427 one yearH1121; and when he had reignedH4427 twoH8147 yearsH8141 over IsraelH3478, 2 SaulH7586 choseH0977 him threeH7969 thousandH0505 men of IsraelH3478; whereof two thousandH0505 were with SaulH7586 in MichmashH4363 and in mountH2022 Beth-elH1008, and a thousandH0505 were with JonathanH3129 in GibeahH1390 of BenjaminH1144: and the restH3499 of the peopleH5971 he sentH7971 every manH0376 to his tentH0168. 3And JonathanH3129 smoteH5221 the garrisonH5333 of the PhilistinesH6430 that was in GebaH1387, and the PhilistinesH6430 heardH8085 of it . And SaulH7586 blewH8628 the trumpetH7782 throughout all the landH0776, sayingH0559, Let the HebrewsH5680 hearH8085. 4And all IsraelH3478 heardH8085 sayH0559 that SaulH7586 had smittenH5221 a garrisonH5333 of the PhilistinesH6430, and that IsraelH3478 also was had in abominationH0887 with the PhilistinesH6430. And the peopleH5971 were called togetherH6817 afterH0310 SaulH7586 to GilgalH1537.

5And the PhilistinesH6430 gathered themselves togetherH0622 to fightH3898 with IsraelH3478, thirtyH7970 thousandH0505 chariotsH7393, and sixH8337 thousandH0505 horsemenH6571, and peopleH5971 as the sandH2344 which is on the seaH3220 shoreH8193 in multitudeH7230: and they came upH5927, and pitchedH2583 in MichmashH4363, eastwardH6926 from Beth-avenH1007. 6When the menH0376 of IsraelH3478 sawH7200 that they were in a straitH6887, (for the peopleH5971 were distressedH5065,) then the peopleH5971 did hideH2244 themselves in cavesH4631, and in thicketsH2337, and in rocksH5553, and in high placesH6877, and in pitsH0953. 7And some of the HebrewsH5680 went overH5674 JordanH3383 to the landH0776 of GadH1410 and GileadH1568. As for SaulH7586, he was yet in GilgalH1537, and all the peopleH5971 followedH0310 him tremblingH2729.

8And he tarriedH3176 sevenH7651 daysH3117, according to the set timeH4150 that SamuelH8050 had appointed: but SamuelH8050 cameH0935 not to GilgalH1537; and the peopleH5971 were scatteredH6327 from him. 9And SaulH7586 saidH0559, Bring hitherH5066 a burnt offeringH5930 to me, and peace offeringsH8002. And he offeredH5927 the burnt offeringH5930. 10And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an endH3615 of offeringH5927 the burnt offeringH5930, behold, SamuelH8050 cameH0935; and SaulH7586 went outH3318 to meetH7125 him, that he might saluteH1288 him.

11And SamuelH8050 saidH0559, What hast thou doneH6213? And SaulH7586 saidH0559, Because I sawH7200 that the peopleH5971 were scatteredH5310 from me, and that thou camestH0935 not within the daysH3117 appointedH4150, and that the PhilistinesH6430 gathered themselves togetherH0622 at MichmashH4363; 12Therefore saidH0559 I, The PhilistinesH6430 will come downH3381 now upon me to GilgalH1537, and I have not made supplicationH2470 untoH6440 the LORDH3068: I forcedH0662 myself therefore, and offeredH5927 a burnt offeringH5930. 13And SamuelH8050 saidH0559 to SaulH7586, Thou hast done foolishlyH5528: thou hast not keptH8104 the commandmentH4687 of the LORDH3068 thy GodH0430, which he commandedH6680 thee: for now would the LORDH3068 have establishedH3559 thy kingdomH4467 upon IsraelH3478 forH5704 everH5769. 14But now thy kingdomH4467 shall not continueH6965: the LORDH3068 hath soughtH1245 him a manH0376 after his own heartH3824, and the LORDH3068 hath commandedH6680 him to be captainH5057 over his peopleH5971, because thou hast not keptH8104 that which the LORDH3068 commandedH6680 thee.

15And SamuelH8050 aroseH6965, and gat him upH5927 from GilgalH1537 unto GibeahH1390 of BenjaminH1144. And SaulH7586 numberedH6485 the peopleH5971 that were presentH4672 with him, about sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH0376. 16And SaulH7586, and JonathanH3129 his sonH1121, and the peopleH5971 that were presentH4672 with them, abodeH3427 in GibeahH1387 of BenjaminH1144: but the PhilistinesH6430 encampedH2583 in MichmashH4363.

17And the spoilersH7843 came outH3318 of the campH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430 in threeH7969 companiesH7218: oneH0259 companyH7218 turnedH6437 unto the wayH1870 that leadeth to OphrahH6084, unto the landH0776 of ShualH7777: 18And anotherH0259 companyH7218 turnedH6437 the wayH1870 to Beth-horonH1032: and anotherH0259 companyH7218 turnedH6437 to the wayH1870 of the borderH1366 that lookethH8259 to the valleyH1516 of ZeboimH6650 toward the wildernessH4057.

19Now there was no smithH2796 foundH4672 throughout all the landH0776 of IsraelH3478: for the PhilistinesH6430 saidH0559, Lest the HebrewsH5680 makeH6213 them swordsH2719 or spearsH2595: 20But all the IsraelitesH3478 went downH3381 to the PhilistinesH6430, to sharpenH3913 every manH0376 his shareH4282, and his coulterH0855, and his axeH7134, and his mattockH4281. 21Yet they had a fileH6477 for the mattocksH4281, and for the coultersH0855, and for the forksH7969, and for the axesH7134, and to sharpenH5324 the goadsH1861. 22So it came to pass in the dayH3117 of battleH4421, that there was neither swordH2719 nor spearH2595 foundH4672 in the handH3027 of any of the peopleH5971 that were with SaulH7586 and JonathanH3129: but with SaulH7586 and with JonathanH3129 his sonH1121 was there foundH4672. 23And the garrisonH4673 of the PhilistinesH6430 went outH3318 to the passageH4569 of MichmashH4363.

1 Samuel: Chapter 14

1Now it came to pass upon a dayH3117, that JonathanH3129 the sonH1121 of SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto the young manH5288 that bareH5375 his armourH3627, ComeH3212, and let us go overH5674 to the PhilistinesH6430 garrisonH4673, that is on the other sideH5676. But he toldH5046 not his fatherH0001. 2And SaulH7586 tarriedH3427 in the uttermostH7097 part of GibeahH1390 under a pomegranate treeH7416 which is in MigronH4051: and the peopleH5971 that were with him were about sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH0376; 3And AhiahH0281, the sonH1121 of AhitubH0285, I-chabodsH0350 brotherH0251, the sonH1121 of PhinehasH6372, the sonH1121 of EliH5941, the LORDsH3068 priestH3548 in ShilohH7887, wearingH5375 an ephodH0646. And the peopleH5971 knewH3045 not that JonathanH3129 was goneH1980.

4And between the passagesH4569, by which JonathanH3129 soughtH1245 to go overH5674 unto the PhilistinesH6430 garrisonH4673, there was a sharpH8127 rockH5553 on the one sideH5676, and a sharpH8127 rockH5553 on the other sideH5676: and the nameH8034 of the oneH0259 was BozezH0949, and the nameH8034 of the otherH0259 SenehH5573. 5The forefrontH8127 of the oneH0259 was situateH4690 northwardH6828 over againstH4136 MichmashH4363, and the otherH0259 southwardH5045 over againstH4136 GibeahH1387. 6And JonathanH3083 saidH0559 to the young manH5288 that bareH5375 his armourH3627, ComeH3212, and let us go overH5674 unto the garrisonH4673 of these uncircumcisedH6189: it may be that the LORDH3068 will workH6213 for us: for there is no restraintH4622 to the LORDH3068 to saveH3467 by manyH7227 or by fewH4592. 7And his armourbearerH5375 saidH0559 unto him, DoH6213 all that is in thine heartH3824: turnH5186 thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heartH3824. 8Then saidH0559 JonathanH3083, Behold, we will pass overH5674 unto these menH0582, and we will discoverH1540 ourselves unto them. 9If they sayH0559 thus unto us, TarryH1826 until we comeH5060 to you; then we will stand stillH5975 in our place, and will not go upH5927 unto them. 10But if they sayH0559 thus, Come upH5927 unto us; then we will go upH5927: for the LORDH3068 hath deliveredH5414 them into our handH3027: and this shall be a signH0226 unto us. 11And bothH8147 of them discoveredH1540 themselves unto the garrisonH4673 of the PhilistinesH6430: and the PhilistinesH6430 saidH0559, Behold, the HebrewsH5680 come forthH3318 out of the holesH2356 where they had hidH2244 themselves. 12And the menH0582 of the garrisonH4675 answeredH6030 JonathanH3129 and his armourbearerH5375, and saidH0559, Come upH5927 to us, and we will shewH3045 you a thingH1697. And JonathanH3129 saidH0559 unto his armourbearerH5375, Come upH5927 afterH0310 me: for the LORDH3068 hath deliveredH5414 them into the handH3027 of IsraelH3478. 13And JonathanH3129 climbed upH5927 upon his handsH3027 and upon his feetH7272, and his armourbearerH5375 afterH0310 him: and they fellH5307 beforeH6440 JonathanH3129; and his armourbearerH5375 slewH4191 afterH0310 him. 14And that firstH7223 slaughterH4347, which JonathanH3129 and his armourbearerH5375 madeH5221, was about twentyH6242 menH0376, within as it were an halfH2677 acreH4618 of landH7704, an class=tip id=~17261 href=/addedText.htm#add onclick="bC(this);"> which an
> a yokeH6776 an class=tip id=~17261 href=/addedText.htm#add onclick="bC(this);"> of oxen might plow an>. 15And there was tremblingH2731 in the hostH4264, in the fieldH7704, and among all the peopleH5971: the garrisonH4673, and the spoilersH7843, they also trembledH2729, and the earthH0776 quakedH7264: so it was a very greatH0430 tremblingH2731.

16And the watchmenH6822 of SaulH7586 in GibeahH1390 of BenjaminH1144 lookedH7200; and, behold, the multitudeH1995 melted awayH4127, and they wentH3212 on beating downH1986 one another . 17Then saidH0559 SaulH7586 unto the peopleH5971 that were with him, NumberH6485 now, and seeH7200 who is goneH1980 from us. And when they had numberedH6485, behold, JonathanH3129 and his armourbearerH5375 were not there . 18And SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto AhiahH0281, Bring hitherH5066 the arkH0727 of GodH0430. For the arkH0727 of GodH0430 was at that timeH3117 with the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478.

19And it came to pass, while SaulH7586 talkedH1696 unto the priestH3548, that the noiseH1995 that was in the hostH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430 wentH3212 onH1980 and increasedH7227: and SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto the priestH3548, WithdrawH0622 thine handH3027. 20And SaulH7586 and all the peopleH5971 that were with him assembledH2199 themselves, and they cameH0935 to the battleH4421: and, behold, every mansH0376 swordH2719 was against his fellowH7453, and there was a veryH3966 greatH1419 discomfitureH4103. 21Moreover the HebrewsH5680 that were with the PhilistinesH6430 beforeH0865 that timeH8032, which went upH5927 with them into the campH4264 from the country round aboutH5439, even they also turned to be with the IsraelitesH3478 that were with SaulH7586 and JonathanH3129. 22Likewise all the menH0376 of IsraelH3478 which had hidH2244 themselves in mountH2022 EphraimH0669, when they heardH8085 that the PhilistinesH6430 fledH5127, even they also followed hardH1692 afterH0310 them in the battleH4421. 23So the LORDH3068 savedH3467 IsraelH3478 that dayH3117: and the battleH4421 passed overH5674 unto Beth-avenH1007.

24And the menH0376 of IsraelH3478 were distressedH5065 that dayH3117: for SaulH7586 had adjuredH0422 the peopleH5971, sayingH0559, CursedH0779 be the manH0376 that eatethH0398 any foodH3899 until eveningH6153, that I may be avengedH5358 on mine enemiesH0341. So none of the peopleH5971 tastedH2938 any foodH3899. 25And all they of the landH0776 cameH0935 to a woodH3293; and there was honeyH1706 uponH6440 the groundH7704. 26And when the peopleH5971 were comeH0935 into the woodH3293, behold, the honeyH1706 droppedH1982; but no man putH5381 his handH3027 to his mouthH6310: for the peopleH5971 fearedH3372 the oathH7621. 27But JonathanH3129 heardH8085 not when his fatherH0001 chargedH7650 the peopleH5971 with the oathH7650: wherefore he put forthH7971 the endH7097 of the rodH4294 that was in his handH3027, and dippedH2881 it in an honeycombH3295, and putH7725 his handH3027 to his mouthH6310; and his eyesH5869 were enlightenedH0215. 28Then answeredH6030 oneH0376 of the peopleH5971, and saidH0559, Thy fatherH0001 straitlyH7650 chargedH7650 the peopleH5971 with an oathH7650, sayingH0559, CursedH0779 be the manH0376 that eatethH0398 any foodH3899 this dayH3117. And the peopleH5971 were faintH5774. 29Then saidH0559 JonathanH3129, My fatherH0001 hath troubledH5916 the landH0776: seeH7200, I pray you, how mine eyesH5869 have been enlightenedH0215, because I tastedH2938 a littleH4592 of this honeyH1706. 30How much moreH0637, if haplyH3863 the peopleH5971 had eatenH0398 freelyH0398 to dayH3117 of the spoilH7998 of their enemiesH0341 which they foundH4672? for had there not been now a much greaterH7235 slaughterH4347 among the PhilistinesH6430? 31And they smoteH5221 the PhilistinesH6430 that dayH3117 from MichmashH4363 to AijalonH0357: and the peopleH5971 were veryH3966 faintH5774. 32And the peopleH5971 flewH5860 upon the spoilH7998, and tookH3947 sheepH6629, and oxenH1241, and calvesH1121, and slewH7819 them on the groundH0776: and the peopleH5971 did eatH0398 them with the bloodH1818.

33Then they toldH5046 SaulH7586, sayingH0559, Behold, the peopleH5971 sinH2398 against the LORDH3068, in that they eatH0398 with the bloodH1818. And he saidH0559, Ye have transgressedH0898: rollH1556 a greatH1419 stoneH0068 unto me this dayH3117. 34And SaulH7586 saidH0559, DisperseH6327 yourselves among the peopleH5971, and sayH0559 unto them, Bring me hitherH5066 every manH0376 his oxH7794, and every manH0376 his sheepH7716, and slayH7819 them here, and eatH0398; and sinH2398 not against the LORDH3068 in eatingH0398 with the bloodH1818. And all the peopleH5971 broughtH5066 every manH0376 his oxH7794 with himH3027 that nightH3915, and slewH7819 them there. 35And SaulH7586 builtH1129 an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068: the same was the firstH2490 altarH4196 that he builtH1129 unto the LORDH3068.

36And SaulH7586 saidH0559, Let us go downH3381 afterH0310 the PhilistinesH6430 by nightH3915, and spoilH0962 them until the morningH1242 lightH0216, and let us not leaveH7604 a manH0376 of them. And they saidH0559, DoH6213 whatsoever seemethH5869 goodH2896 unto thee. Then saidH0559 the priestH3548, Let us draw nearH7126 hitherH1988 unto GodH0430. 37And SaulH7586 askedH7592 counsel of GodH0430, Shall I go downH3381 afterH0310 the PhilistinesH6430? wilt thou deliverH5414 them into the handH3027 of IsraelH3478? But he answeredH6030 him not that dayH3117. 38And SaulH7586 saidH0559, Draw ye nearH5066 hitherH1988, all the chiefH6438 of the peopleH5971: and knowH3045 and seeH7200 whereinH4100 this sinH2403 hath been this dayH3117. 39For, as the LORDH3068 livethH2416, which savethH3467 IsraelH3478, though it beH3426 in JonathanH3129 my sonH1121, he shall surelyH4191 dieH4191. But there was not a man among all the peopleH5971 that answeredH6030 him. 40Then saidH0559 he unto all IsraelH3478, Be ye on oneH0259 sideH5676, and I and JonathanH3129 my sonH1121 will be on the otherH0259 sideH5676. And the peopleH5971 saidH0559 unto SaulH7586, DoH6213 what seemethH5869 goodH2896 unto thee. 41Therefore SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto the LORDH3068 GodH0430 of IsraelH3478, GiveH3051 a perfectH8549 lot . And SaulH7586 and JonathanH3129 were takenH3920: but the peopleH5971 escapedH3318. 42And SaulH7586 saidH0559, CastH5307 lots between me and JonathanH3129 my sonH1121. And JonathanH3129 was takenH3920. 43Then SaulH7586 saidH0559 to JonathanH3129, TellH5046 me what thou hast doneH6213. And JonathanH3129 toldH5046 him, and saidH0559, I did butH2938 tasteH2938 a littleH4592 honeyH1706 with the endH7097 of the rodH4294 that was in mine handH3027, and , loH2009, I must dieH4191. 44And SaulH7586 answeredH0559, GodH0430 do soH6213 and more alsoH3254: for thou shalt surelyH4191 dieH4191, JonathanH3129. 45And the peopleH5971 saidH0559 unto SaulH7586, Shall JonathanH3129 dieH4191, who hath wroughtH6213 this greatH1419 salvationH3444 in IsraelH3478? God forbidH2486: as the LORDH3068 livethH2416, there shall not one hairH8185 of his headH7218 fallH5307 to the groundH0776; for he hath wroughtH6213 with GodH0430 this dayH3117. So the peopleH5971 rescuedH6299 JonathanH3129, that he diedH4191 not. 46Then SaulH7586 went upH5927 from followingH0310 the PhilistinesH6430: and the PhilistinesH6430 wentH1980 to their own placeH4725.

47So SaulH7586 tookH3920 the kingdomH4410 over IsraelH3478, and foughtH3898 against all his enemiesH0341 on every sideH5439, against MoabH4124, and against the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983, and against EdomH0123, and against the kingsH4428 of ZobahH6678, and against the PhilistinesH6430: and whithersoever he turnedH6437 himself, he vexedH7561 them . 48And he gatheredH6213 an hostH2428, and smoteH5221 the AmalekitesH6002, and deliveredH5337 IsraelH3478 out of the handsH3027 of them that spoiledH8154 them. 49Now the sonsH1121 of SaulH7586 were JonathanH3129, and IshuiH3440, and Melchi-shuaH4444: and the namesH8034 of his twoH8147 daughtersH1323 were these; the nameH8034 of the firstbornH1067 MerabH4764, and the nameH8034 of the youngerH6996 MichalH4324: 50And the nameH8034 of SaulsH7586 wifeH0802 was AhinoamH0293, the daughterH1323 of AhimaazH0290: and the nameH8034 of the captainH8269 of his hostH6635 was AbnerH0074, the sonH1121 of NerH5369, SaulsH7586 uncleH1730. 51And KishH7027 was the fatherH0001 of SaulH7586; and NerH5369 the fatherH0001 of AbnerH0074 was the sonH1121 of AbielH0022. 52And there was soreH2389 warH4421 against the PhilistinesH6430 all the daysH3117 of SaulH7586: and when SaulH7586 sawH7200 any strongH1368 manH0376, or any valiantH2428 manH1121, he tookH0622 him unto him.

1 Samuel: Chapter 15

1 SamuelH8050 also saidH0559 unto SaulH7586, The LORDH3068 sentH7971 me to anointH4886 thee to be kingH4428 over his peopleH5971, over IsraelH3478: now therefore hearkenH8085 thou unto the voiceH6963 of the wordsH1697 of the LORDH3068. 2Thus saithH0559 the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, I rememberH6485 that which AmalekH6002 didH6213 to IsraelH3478, how he laidH7760 wait for him in the wayH1870, when he came upH5927 from EgyptH4714. 3Now goH3212 and smiteH5221 AmalekH6002, and utterly destroyH2763 all that they have, and spareH2550 them not; but slayH4191 both manH0376 and womanH0802, infantH5768 and sucklingH3243, oxH7794 and sheepH7716, camelH1581 and assH2543. 4And SaulH7586 gatheredH8085 the peopleH5971 togetherH8085, and numberedH6485 them in TelaimH2923, two hundredH3967 thousandH0505 footmenH7273, and tenH6235 thousandH0505 menH0376 of JudahH3063. 5And SaulH7586 cameH0935 to a cityH5892 of AmalekH6002, and laid waitH7378 in the valleyH5158.

6And SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto the KenitesH7017, GoH3212, departH5493, get you downH3381 from amongH8432 the AmalekitesH6002, lest I destroyH0622 you with them: for ye shewedH6213 kindnessH2617 to all the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, when they came upH5927 out of EgyptH4714. So the KenitesH7017 departedH5493 from amongH8432 the AmalekitesH6003. 7And SaulH7586 smoteH5221 the AmalekitesH6002 from HavilahH2341 until thou comestH0935 to ShurH7793, that is over againstH6440 EgyptH4714. 8And he tookH8610 AgagH0090 the kingH4428 of the AmalekitesH6002 aliveH2416, and utterly destroyedH2763 all the peopleH5971 with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719. 9But SaulH7586 and the peopleH5971 sparedH2550 AgagH0090, and the bestH4315 of the sheepH6629, and of the oxenH1241, and of the fatlingsH4932, and the lambsH3733, and all that was goodH2896, and wouldH0014 not utterly destroyH2763 them: but every thingH4399 that was vileH5240 and refuseH4549, that they destroyed utterlyH2763.

10Then came the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 unto SamuelH8050, sayingH0559, 11It repentethH5162 me that I have set upH4427 SaulH7586 to be kingH4428: for he is turned backH7725 from followingH0310 me, and hath not performedH6965 my commandmentsH1697. And it grievedH2734 SamuelH8050; and he criedH2199 unto the LORDH3068 all nightH3915. 12And when SamuelH8050 rose earlyH7925 to meetH7125 SaulH7586 in the morningH1242, it was toldH5046 SamuelH8050, sayingH0559, SaulH7586 cameH0935 to CarmelH3760, and, behold, he set him upH5324 a placeH3027, and is gone aboutH5437, and passed onH5674, and gone downH3381 to GilgalH1537. 13And SamuelH8050 cameH0935 to SaulH7586: and SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto him, BlessedH1288 be thou of the LORDH3068: I have performedH6965 the commandmentH1697 of the LORDH3068. 14And SamuelH8050 saidH0559, What meaneth then this bleatingH6963 of the sheepH6629 in mine earsH0241, and the lowingH6963 of the oxenH1241 which I hearH8085? 15And SaulH7586 saidH0559, They have broughtH0935 them from the AmalekitesH6003: for the peopleH5971 sparedH2550 the bestH4315 of the sheepH6629 and of the oxenH1241, to sacrificeH2076 unto the LORDH3068 thy GodH0430; and the restH3498 we have utterly destroyedH2763. 16Then SamuelH8050 saidH0559 unto SaulH7586, StayH7503, and I will tellH5046 thee what the LORDH3068 hath saidH1696 to me this nightH3915. And he saidH0559 unto him, Say onH1696. 17And SamuelH8050 saidH0559, When thou wast littleH6996 in thine own sightH5869, wast thou not made the headH7218 of the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, and the LORDH3068 anointedH4886 thee kingH4428 over IsraelH3478? 18And the LORDH3068 sentH7971 thee on a journeyH1870, and saidH0559, GoH3212 and utterly destroyH2763 the sinnersH2400 the AmalekitesH6002, and fightH3898 against them until they be consumedH3615. 19Wherefore then didst thou not obeyH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068, but didst flyH5860 upon the spoilH7998, and didstH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068? 20And SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto SamuelH8050, Yea, I have obeyedH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068, and have goneH3212 the wayH1870 which the LORDH3068 sentH7971 me, and have broughtH0935 AgagH0090 the kingH4428 of AmalekH6002, and have utterly destroyedH2763 the AmalekitesH6002. 21But the peopleH5971 tookH3947 of the spoilH7998, sheepH6629 and oxenH1241, the chiefH7225 of the things which should have been utterly destroyedH2764, to sacrificeH2076 unto the LORDH3068 thy GodH0430 in GilgalH1537. 22And SamuelH8050 saidH0559, Hath the LORDH3068 as great delightH2656 in burnt offeringsH5930 and sacrificesH2077, as in obeyingH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068? Behold, to obeyH8085 is betterH2896 than sacrificeH2077, and to hearkenH7181 than the fatH2459 of ramsH0352. 23For rebellionH4805 is as the sinH2403 of witchcraftH7081, and stubbornnessH6484 is as iniquityH0205 and idolatryH8655. Because thou hast rejectedH3988 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, he hath also rejectedH3988 thee from being kingH4428.

24And SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto SamuelH8050, I have sinnedH2398: for I have transgressedH5674 the commandmentH6310 of the LORDH3068, and thy wordsH1697: because I fearedH3372 the peopleH5971, and obeyedH8085 their voiceH6963. 25Now therefore, I pray thee, pardonH5375 my sinH2403, and turn againH7725 with me, that I may worshipH7812 the LORDH3068. 26And SamuelH8050 saidH0559 unto SaulH7586, I will not returnH7725 with thee: for thou hast rejectedH3988 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, and the LORDH3068 hath rejectedH3988 thee from being kingH4428 over IsraelH3478. 27And as SamuelH8050 turned aboutH5437 to go awayH3212, he laid holdH2388 upon the skirtH3671 of his mantleH4598, and it rentH7167. 28And SamuelH8050 saidH0559 unto him, The LORDH3068 hath rentH7167 the kingdomH4468 of IsraelH3478 from thee this dayH3117, and hath givenH5414 it to a neighbourH7453 of thine, that is betterH2896 than thou. 29And also the StrengthH5331 of IsraelH3478 will not lieH8266 nor repentH5162: for he is not a manH0120, that he should repentH5162. 30Then he saidH0559, I have sinnedH2398: yet honourH3513 me now, I pray thee, before the eldersH2205 of my peopleH5971, and before IsraelH3478, and turn againH7725 with me, that I may worshipH7812 the LORDH3068 thy GodH0430. 31So SamuelH8050 turned againH7725 afterH0310 SaulH7586; and SaulH7586 worshippedH7812 the LORDH3068.

32Then saidH0559 SamuelH8050, Bring ye hitherH5066 to me AgagH0090 the kingH4428 of the AmalekitesH6002. And AgagH0090 cameH3212 unto him delicatelyH4574. And AgagH0090 saidH0559, SurelyH0403 the bitternessH4751 of deathH4194 is pastH5493. 33And SamuelH8050 saidH0559, As thy swordH2719 hath made womenH0802 childlessH7921, so shall thy motherH0517 be childlessH7921 among womenH0802. And SamuelH8050 hewedH8158 AgagH0090 in piecesH8158 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 in GilgalH1537.

34Then SamuelH8050 wentH3212 to RamahH7414; and SaulH7586 went upH5927 to his houseH1004 to GibeahH1390 of SaulH7586. 35And SamuelH8050 came no moreH3254 to seeH7200 SaulH7586 until the dayH3117 of his deathH4194: neverthelessH3588 SamuelH8050 mournedH0056 for SaulH7586: and the LORDH3068 repentedH5162 that he had made SaulH7586 kingH4427 over IsraelH3478.

1 Samuel: Chapter 16

1And the LORDH3068 saidH0559 unto SamuelH8050, How long wilt thou mournH0056 for SaulH7586, seeing I have rejectedH3988 him from reigningH4427 over IsraelH3478? fillH4390 thine hornH7161 with oilH8081, and goH3212, I will sendH7971 thee to JesseH3448 the Beth-lehemiteH1022: for I have providedH7200 me a kingH4428 among his sonsH1121. 2And SamuelH8050 saidH0559, How can I goH3212? if SaulH7586 hearH8085 it , he will killH2026 me. And the LORDH3068 saidH0559, TakeH3947 an heiferH1241 with theeH3027, and sayH0559, I am comeH0935 to sacrificeH2076 to the LORDH3068. 3And callH7121 JesseH3448 to the sacrificeH2077, and I will shewH3045 thee what thou shalt doH6213: and thou shalt anointH4886 unto me him whom I nameH0559 unto thee. 4And SamuelH8050 didH6213 that which the LORDH3068 spakeH1696, and cameH0935 to Beth-lehemH1035. And the eldersH2205 of the townH5892 trembledH2729 at his comingH7125, and saidH0559, ComestH0935 thou peaceablyH7965? 5And he saidH0559, PeaceablyH7965: I am comeH0935 to sacrificeH2076 unto the LORDH3068: sanctifyH6942 yourselves, and comeH0935 with me to the sacrificeH2077. And he sanctifiedH6942 JesseH3448 and his sonsH1121, and calledH7121 them to the sacrificeH2077.

6And it came to pass, when they were comeH0935, that he lookedH7200 on EliabH0446, and saidH0559, Surely the LORDsH3068 anointedH4899 is before him. 7But the LORDH3068 saidH0559 unto SamuelH8050, LookH5027 not on his countenanceH4758, or on the heightH1364 of his statureH6967; because I have refusedH3988 him: for the Lord seeth not as manH0120 seethH7200; for manH0120 lookethH7200 on the outward appearanceH5869, but the LORDH3068 lookethH7200 on the heartH3824. 8Then JesseH3448 calledH7121 AbinadabH0041, and made him passH5674 beforeH6440 SamuelH8050. And he saidH0559, Neither hath the LORDH3068 chosenH0977 this. 9Then JesseH3448 made ShammahH8048 to pass byH5674. And he saidH0559, Neither hath the LORDH3068 chosenH0977 this. 10Again, JesseH3448 made sevenH7651 of his sonsH1121 to passH5674 beforeH6440 SamuelH8050. And SamuelH8050 saidH0559 unto JesseH3448, The LORDH3068 hath not chosenH0977 these. 11And SamuelH8050 saidH0559 unto JesseH3448, Are here allH8552 thy childrenH5288? And he saidH0559, There remainethH7604 yet the youngestH6996, and, behold, he keepethH7462 the sheepH6629. And SamuelH8050 saidH0559 unto JesseH3448, SendH7971 and fetchH3947 him: for we will not sit downH5437 till he comeH0935 hitherH6311. 12And he sentH7971, and brought him inH0935. Now he was ruddyH0132, and withalH5973 of a beautifulH3303 countenanceH5869, and goodlyH2896 to look toH7210. And the LORDH3068 saidH0559, AriseH6965, anointH4886 him: for this is he. 13Then SamuelH8050 tookH3947 the hornH7161 of oilH8081, and anointedH4886 him in the midstH7130 of his brethrenH0251: and the SpiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 cameH6743 upon DavidH1732 from that dayH3117 forwardH4605. So SamuelH8050 rose upH6965, and wentH3212 to RamahH7414.

14But the SpiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 departedH5493 from SaulH7586, and an evilH7451 spiritH7307 from the LORDH3068 troubledH1204 him. 15And SaulsH7586 servantsH5650 saidH0559 unto him, Behold now, an evilH7451 spiritH7307 from GodH0430 troublethH1204 thee. 16Let our lordH0113 now commandH0559 thy servantsH5650, which are beforeH6440 thee, to seek outH1245 a manH0376, who is a cunningH3045 playerH5059 on an harpH3658: and it shall come to pass, when the evilH7451 spiritH7307 from GodH0430 is upon thee, that he shall playH5059 with his handH3027, and thou shalt be wellH2895. 17And SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto his servantsH5650, ProvideH7200 me now a manH0376 that can playH5059 wellH3190, and bringH0935 him to me. 18Then answeredH6030 oneH0259 of the servantsH5288, and saidH0559, Behold, I have seenH7200 a sonH1121 of JesseH3448 the Beth-lehemiteH1022, that is cunningH3045 in playingH5059, and a mightyH1368 valiant manH2428, and a manH0376 of warH4421, and prudentH0995 in mattersH1697, and a comelyH8389 personH0376, and the LORDH3068 is with him.

19Wherefore SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 unto JesseH3448, and saidH0559, SendH7971 me DavidH1732 thy sonH1121, which is with the sheepH6629. 20And JesseH3448 tookH3947 an assH2543 laden with breadH3899, and a bottleH4997 of wineH3196, and aH0259 kidH1423, and sentH7971 them byH3027 DavidH1732 his sonH1121 unto SaulH7586. 21And DavidH1732 cameH0935 to SaulH7586, and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 him: and he lovedH0157 him greatlyH3966; and he became his armourbearerH5375. 22And SaulH7586 sentH7971 to JesseH3448, sayingH0559, Let DavidH1732, I pray thee, standH5975 beforeH6440 me; for he hath foundH4672 favourH2580 in my sightH5869. 23And it came to pass, when the evil spiritH7307 from GodH0430 was upon SaulH7586, that DavidH1732 tookH3947 an harpH3658, and playedH5059 with his handH3027: so SaulH7586 was refreshedH7304, and was wellH2895, and the evilH7451 spiritH7307 departedH5493 from him.

1 Samuel: Chapter 17

1Now the PhilistinesH6430 gathered togetherH0622 their armiesH4264 to battleH4421, and were gathered togetherH0622 at ShochohH7755, which belongeth to JudahH3063, and pitchedH2583 between ShochohH7755 and AzekahH5825, in Ephes-dammimH0658. 2And SaulH7586 and the menH0376 of IsraelH3478 were gathered togetherH0622, and pitchedH2583 by the valleyH6010 of ElahH0425, and set the battleH4421 in arrayH6186 againstH7125 the PhilistinesH6430. 3And the PhilistinesH6430 stoodH5975 on a mountainH2022 on the one side, and IsraelH3478 stoodH5975 on a mountainH2022 on the other side: and there was a valleyH1516 between them.

4And there went outH3318 a championH0376 out of the campH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430, namedH8034 GoliathH1555, of GathH1661, whose heightH1363 was sixH8337 cubitsH0520 and a spanH2239. 5And he had an helmetH3553 of brassH5178 upon his headH7218, and he was armedH3847 with a coatH8302 of mailH7193; and the weightH4948 of the coatH8302 was fiveH2568 thousandH0505 shekelsH8255 of brassH5178. 6And he had greavesH4697 of brassH5178 upon his legsH7272, and a targetH3591 of brassH5178 between his shouldersH3802. 7And the staffH6086 of his spearH2595 was like a weaversH0707 beamH4500; and his spearsH2595 headH3852 weighed sixH8337 hundredH3967 shekelsH8255 of ironH1270: and one bearingH5375 a shieldH6793 wentH1980 beforeH6440 him. 8And he stoodH5975 and criedH7121 unto the armiesH4634 of IsraelH3478, and saidH0559 unto them, Why are ye come outH3318 to set your battleH4421 in arrayH6186? am not I a PhilistineH6430, and ye servantsH5650 to SaulH7586? chooseH1262 you a manH0376 for you, and let him come downH3381 to me. 9If he be ableH3201 to fightH3898 with me, and to killH5221 me, then will we be your servantsH5650: but if I prevailH3201 against him, and killH5221 him, then shall ye be our servantsH5650, and serveH5647 us. 10And the PhilistineH6430 saidH0559, I defyH2778 the armiesH4634 of IsraelH3478 this dayH3117; giveH5414 me a manH0376, that we may fightH3898 togetherH3162. 11When SaulH7586 and all IsraelH3478 heardH8085 those wordsH1697 of the PhilistineH6430, they were dismayedH2865, and greatlyH3966 afraidH3372.

12Now DavidH1732 was the sonH1121 of that EphrathiteH0376 of Beth-lehem-judahH1035, whose nameH8034 was JesseH3448; and he had eightH8083 sonsH1121: and the manH0376 wentH0935 among menH0582 for an old manH2204 in the daysH3117 of SaulH7586. 13And the threeH7969 eldestH1419 sonsH1121 of JesseH3448 wentH3212 and followedH0310 SaulH7586 to the battleH4421: and the namesH8034 of his threeH7969 sonsH1121 that wentH1980 to the battleH4421 were EliabH0446 the firstbornH1060, and nextH4932 unto him AbinadabH0041, and the thirdH7992 ShammahH8048. 14And DavidH1732 was the youngestH6996: and the threeH7969 eldestH1419 followedH1980 SaulH7586. 15But DavidH1732 wentH1980 and returnedH7725 from SaulH7586 to feedH7462 his fathersH0001 sheepH6629 at Beth-lehemH1035. 16And the PhilistineH6430 drew nearH5066 morningH7925 and eveningH6150, and presentedH3320 himself fortyH0705 daysH3117. 17And JesseH3448 saidH0559 unto DavidH1732 his sonH1121, TakeH3947 now for thy brethrenH0251 an ephahH0374 of thisH2088 parchedH7039 corn , and these tenH6235 loavesH3899, and runH7323 to the campH4264 to thy brethrenH0251; 18And carryH0935 these tenH6235 cheesesH2461 unto the captainH8269 of their thousandH0505, and lookH6485 how thy brethrenH0251 fareH7965, and takeH3947 their pledgeH6161. 19Now SaulH7586, and they, and all the menH0376 of IsraelH3478, were in the valleyH6010 of ElahH0425, fightingH3898 with the PhilistinesH6430.

20And DavidH1732 rose up earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and leftH5203 the sheepH6629 with a keeperH8104, and tookH5375, and wentH3212, as JesseH3448 had commandedH6680 him; and he cameH0935 to the trenchH4570, as the hostH2428 was going forthH3318 to the fightH4634, and shoutedH7321 for the battleH4421. 21For IsraelH3478 and the PhilistinesH6430 had put the battle in arrayH6186, armyH4634 againstH7125 armyH4634. 22And DavidH1732 leftH5203 his carriageH3627 in the handH3027 of the keeperH8104 of the carriageH3627, and ranH7323 into the armyH4634, and cameH0935 and salutedH7592 his brethrenH0251. 23And as he talkedH1696 with them, behold, there came upH5927 the championH0376, the PhilistineH6430 of GathH1661, GoliathH1555 by nameH8034, out of the armiesH4634 of the PhilistinesH6430, and spakeH1696 according to the sameH0428 wordsH1697: and DavidH1732 heardH8085 them . 24And all the menH0376 of IsraelH3478, when they sawH7200 the manH0376, fledH5127 from himH6440, and were soreH3966 afraidH3372. 25And the menH0376 of IsraelH3478 saidH0559, Have ye seenH7200 this manH0376 that is come upH5927? surely to defyH2778 IsraelH3478 is he come upH5927: and it shall be, that the manH0376 who killethH5221 him, the kingH4428 will enrichH6238 him with greatH1419 richesH6239, and will giveH5414 him his daughterH1323, and makeH6213 his fathersH0001 houseH1004 freeH2670 in IsraelH3478. 26And DavidH1732 spakeH0559 to the menH0582 that stoodH5975 by him, sayingH0559, What shall be doneH6213 to the manH0376 that killethH5221 thisH1975 PhilistineH6430, and taketh awayH5493 the reproachH2781 from IsraelH3478? for who is this uncircumcisedH6189 PhilistineH6430, that he should defyH2778 the armiesH4634 of the livingH2416 GodH0430? 27And the peopleH5971 answeredH0559 him after this mannerH1697, sayingH0559, So shall it be doneH6213 to the manH0376 that killethH5221 him.

28And EliabH0446 his eldestH1419 brotherH0251 heardH8085 when he spakeH1696 unto the menH0582; and EliabsH0446 angerH0639 was kindledH2734 against DavidH1732, and he saidH0559, Why camest thou downH3381 hither? and with whom hast thou leftH5203 thoseH2007 fewH4592 sheepH6629 in the wildernessH4057? I knowH3045 thy prideH2087, and the naughtinessH7455 of thine heartH3824; for thou art come downH3381 that thou mightest seeH7200 the battleH4421. 29And DavidH1732 saidH0559, What have I now doneH6213? Is there not a causeH1697?

30And he turnedH5437 from himH0681 towardH4136 anotherH0312, and spakeH0559 after the same mannerH1697: and the peopleH5971 answeredH1697 him againH7725 after the formerH7223 mannerH1697.

31And when the wordsH1697 were heardH8085 which DavidH1732 spakeH1696, they rehearsedH5046 them beforeH6440 SaulH7586: and he sentH3947 for him.

32And DavidH1732 saidH0559 to SaulH7586, Let no mansH0120 heartH3820 failH5307 because of him; thy servantH5650 will goH3212 and fightH3898 with this PhilistineH6430. 33And SaulH7586 saidH0559 to DavidH1732, Thou art not ableH3201 to goH3212 against this PhilistineH6430 to fightH3898 with him: for thou art but a youthH5288, and he a manH0376 of warH4421 from his youthH5271. 34And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto SaulH7586, Thy servantH5650 keptH7462 his fathersH0001 sheepH6629, and there cameH0935 a lionH0738, and a bearH1677, and tookH5375 a lambH7716 out of the flockH5739: 35And I went outH3318 afterH0310 him, and smoteH5221 him, and deliveredH5337 it out of his mouthH6310: and when he aroseH6965 against me, I caughtH2388 him by his beardH2206, and smoteH5221 him, and slewH4191 him. 36Thy servantH5650 slewH5221 both the lionH0738 and the bearH1677: and this uncircumcisedH6189 PhilistineH6430 shall be as oneH0259 of them, seeing he hath defiedH2778 the armiesH4634 of the livingH2416 GodH0430. 37 DavidH1732 saidH0559 moreover, The LORDH3068 that deliveredH5337 me out of the pawH3027 of the lionH0738, and out of the pawH3027 of the bearH1677, he will deliverH5337 me out of the handH3027 of this PhilistineH6430. And SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto DavidH1732, GoH3212, and the LORDH3068 be with thee.

38And SaulH7586 armedH3847 DavidH1732 with his armourH4055, and he putH5414 an helmetH6959 of brassH5178 upon his headH7218; also he armedH3847 him with a coat of mailH8302. 39And DavidH1732 girdedH2296 his swordH2719 upon his armourH4055, and he assayedH2974 to goH3212; for he had not provedH5254 it . And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto SaulH7586, I cannotH3201 goH3212 with these; for I have not provedH5254 them . And DavidH1732 putH5493 them off him.

40And he tookH3947 his staffH4731 in his handH3027, and choseH0977 him fiveH2568 smoothH2512 stonesH0068 out of the brookH5158, and putH7760 them in a shepherdsH7462 bagH3627 which he had, even in a scripH3219; and his slingH7050 was in his handH3027: and he drew nearH5066 to the PhilistineH6430. 41And the PhilistineH6430 cameH3212 onH1980 and drew nearH7131 unto DavidH1732; and the manH0376 that bareH5375 the shieldH6793 went beforeH6440 him. 42And when the PhilistineH6430 looked aboutH5027, and sawH7200 DavidH1732, he disdainedH0959 him: for he was but a youthH5288, and ruddyH0132, and of a fairH3303 countenanceH4758. 43And the PhilistineH6430 saidH0559 unto DavidH1732, Am I a dogH3611, that thou comestH0935 to me with stavesH4731? And the PhilistineH6430 cursedH7043 DavidH1732 by his godsH0430. 44And the PhilistineH6430 saidH0559 to DavidH1732, ComeH3212 to me, and I will giveH5414 thy fleshH1320 unto the fowlsH5775 of the airH8064, and to the beastsH0929 of the fieldH7704. 45Then saidH0559 DavidH1732 to the PhilistineH6430, Thou comestH0935 to me with a swordH2719, and with a spearH2595, and with a shieldH3591: but I comeH0935 to thee in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH0430 of the armiesH4634 of IsraelH3478, whom thou hast defiedH2778. 46This dayH3117 will the LORDH3068 deliverH5462 thee into mine handH3027; and I will smiteH5221 thee, and takeH5493 thine headH7218 from thee; and I will giveH5414 the carcasesH6297 of the hostH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430 this dayH3117 unto the fowlsH5775 of the airH8064, and to the wild beastsH2416 of the earthH0776; that all the earthH0776 may knowH3045 that there isH3426 a GodH0430 in IsraelH3478. 47And all this assemblyH6951 shall knowH3045 that the LORDH3068 savethH3467 not with swordH2719 and spearH2595: for the battleH4421 is the LORDsH3068, and he will giveH5414 you into our handsH3027.

48And it came to pass, when the PhilistineH6430 aroseH6965, and cameH3212 and drew nighH7126 to meetH7125 DavidH1732, that DavidH1732 hastedH4116, and ranH7323 toward the armyH4634 to meetH7125 the PhilistineH6430. 49And DavidH1732 putH7971 his handH3027 in his bagH3627, and tookH3947 thence a stoneH0068, and slangH7049 it , and smoteH5221 the PhilistineH6430 in his foreheadH4696, that the stoneH0068 sunkH2883 into his foreheadH4696; and he fellH5307 upon his faceH6440 to the earthH0776. 50So DavidH1732 prevailedH2388 overH4480 the PhilistineH6430 with a slingH7050 and with a stoneH0068, and smoteH5221 the PhilistineH6430, and slewH4191 him; but there was no swordH2719 in the handH3027 of DavidH1732. 51Therefore DavidH1732 ranH7323, and stoodH5975 upon the PhilistineH6430, and tookH3947 his swordH2719, and drewH8025 it out of the sheathH8593 thereof, and slewH4191 him, and cut offH3772 his headH7218 therewith. And when the PhilistinesH6430 sawH7200 their championH1368 was deadH4191, they fledH5127. 52And the menH0582 of IsraelH3478 and of JudahH3063 aroseH6965, and shoutedH7321, and pursuedH7291 the PhilistinesH6430, until thou comeH0935 to the valleyH1516, and to the gatesH8179 of EkronH6138. And the woundedH2491 of the PhilistinesH6430 fell downH5307 by the wayH1870 to ShaaraimH8189, even unto GathH1661, and unto EkronH6138. 53And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 returnedH7725 from chasingH1814 afterH0310 the PhilistinesH6430, and they spoiledH8155 their tentsH4264. 54And DavidH1732 tookH3947 the headH7218 of the PhilistineH6430, and broughtH0935 it to JerusalemH3389; but he putH7760 his armourH3627 in his tentH0168.

55And when SaulH7586 sawH7200 DavidH1732 go forthH3318 againstH7125 the PhilistineH6430, he saidH0559 unto AbnerH0074, the captainH8269 of the hostH6635, AbnerH0074, whose sonH1121 is this youthH5288? And AbnerH0074 saidH0559, As thy soulH5315 livethH2416, O kingH4428, I cannotH0518 tellH3045. 56And the kingH4428 saidH0559, EnquireH7592 thou whose sonH1121 the striplingH5958 is . 57And as DavidH1732 returnedH7725 from the slaughterH5221 of the PhilistineH6430, AbnerH0074 tookH3947 him, and broughtH0935 him beforeH6440 SaulH7586 with the headH7218 of the PhilistineH6430 in his handH3027. 58And SaulH7586 saidH0559 to him, Whose sonH1121 art thou, thou young manH5288? And DavidH1732 answeredH0559, I am the sonH1121 of thy servantH5650 JesseH3448 the Beth-lehemiteH1022.

1 Samuel: Chapter 18

1And it came to pass, when he had made an endH3615 of speakingH1696 unto SaulH7586, that the soulH5315 of JonathanH3083 was knitH7194 with the soulH5315 of DavidH1732, and JonathanH3083 lovedH0157 him as his own soulH5315. 2And SaulH7586 tookH3947 him that dayH3117, and would letH5414 him go no more homeH7725 to his fathersH0001 houseH1004. 3Then JonathanH3083 and DavidH1732 madeH3772 a covenantH1285, because he lovedH0160 him as his own soulH5315. 4And JonathanH3083 strippedH6584 himself of the robeH4598 that was upon him, and gaveH5414 it to DavidH1732, and his garmentsH4055, even to his swordH2719, and to his bowH7198, and to his girdleH2289.

5And DavidH1732 went outH3318 whithersoever SaulH7586 sentH7971 him, and behaved himself wiselyH7919: and SaulH7586 setH7760 him over the menH0582 of warH4421, and he was acceptedH3190 in the sightH5869 of all the peopleH5971, and also in the sightH5869 of SaulsH7586 servantsH5650.

6And it came to pass as they cameH0935, when DavidH1732 was returnedH7725 from the slaughterH5221 of the PhilistineH6430, that the womenH0802 came outH3318 of all citiesH5892 of IsraelH3478, singingH7891 and dancingH4246, to meetH7125 kingH4428 SaulH7586, with tabretsH8596, with joyH8057, and with instruments of musickH7991. 7And the womenH0802 answeredH6030 one another as they playedH7832, and saidH0559, SaulH7586 hath slainH5221 his thousandsH0505, and DavidH1732 his ten thousandsH7233. 8And SaulH7586 was veryH3966 wrothH2734, and the sayingH1697 displeasedH3415 him; and he saidH0559, They have ascribedH5414 unto DavidH1732 ten thousandsH7233, and to me they have ascribedH5414 but thousandsH0505: and what can he have more but the kingdomH4410? 9And SaulH7586 eyedH5770 DavidH1732 from that dayH3117 and forwardH1973.

10And it came to pass on the morrowH4283, that the evilH7451 spiritH7307 from GodH0430 cameH6743 upon SaulH7586, and he prophesiedH5012 in the midstH8432 of the houseH1004: and DavidH1732 playedH5059 with his handH3027, as at other timesH3117: and there was a javelinH2595 in SaulsH7586 handH3027. 11And SaulH7586 castH2904 the javelinH2595; for he saidH0559, I will smiteH5221 DavidH1732 even to the wallH7023 with it . And DavidH1732 avoided outH5437 of his presenceH6440 twiceH6471.

12And SaulH7586 was afraidH3372 ofH6440 DavidH1732, because the LORDH3068 was with him, and was departedH5493 from SaulH7586. 13Therefore SaulH7586 removedH5493 him from him, and madeH7760 him his captainH8269 over a thousandH0505; and he went outH3318 and came inH0935 beforeH6440 the peopleH5971. 14And DavidH1732 behaved himself wiselyH7919 in all his waysH1870; and the LORDH3068 was with him. 15Wherefore when SaulH7586 sawH7200 that he behavedH7919 himself veryH3966 wiselyH7919, he was afraidH1481 ofH6440 him. 16But all IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063 lovedH0157 DavidH1732, because he went outH3318 and came inH0935 beforeH6440 them.

17And SaulH7586 saidH0559 to DavidH1732, Behold my elderH1419 daughterH1323 MerabH4764, her will I giveH5414 thee to wifeH0802: only be thou valiantH1121 for me, and fightH3898 the LORDsH3068 battlesH4421. For SaulH7586 saidH0559, Let not mine handH3027 be upon him, but let the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430 be upon him. 18And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto SaulH7586, Who am I? and what is my lifeH2416, or my fathersH0001 familyH4940 in IsraelH3478, that I should be son in lawH2860 to the kingH4428? 19But it came to pass at the timeH6256 when MerabH4764 SaulsH7586 daughterH1323 should have been givenH5414 to DavidH1732, that she was givenH5414 unto AdrielH5741 the MeholathiteH4259 to wifeH0802. 20And MichalH4324 SaulsH7586 daughterH1323 lovedH0157 DavidH1732: and they toldH5046 SaulH7586, and the thingH1697 pleasedH3474 him. 21And SaulH7586 saidH0559, I will giveH5414 him her, that she may be a snareH4170 to him, and that the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430 may be against him. Wherefore SaulH7586 saidH0559 to DavidH1732, Thou shalt this dayH3117 be my son in lawH2859 in the one of the twainH8147.

22And SaulH7586 commandedH6680 his servantsH5650, saying , CommuneH1696 with DavidH1732 secretlyH3909, and sayH0559, Behold, the kingH4428 hath delightH2654 in thee, and all his servantsH5650 loveH0157 thee: now therefore be the kingsH4428 son in lawH2859. 23And SaulsH7586 servantsH5650 spakeH1696 those wordsH1697 in the earsH0241 of DavidH1732. And DavidH1732 saidH0559, SeemethH5869 it to you a lightH7043 thing to be a kingsH4428 son in lawH2859, seeing that I am a poorH7326 manH0376, and lightly esteemedH7034? 24And the servantsH5650 of SaulH7586 toldH5046 him, sayingH0559, On this mannerH1697 spakeH1696 DavidH1732. 25And SaulH7586 saidH0559, Thus shall ye sayH0559 to DavidH1732, The kingH4428 desirethH2656 not any dowryH4119, but an hundredH3967 foreskinsH6190 of the PhilistinesH6430, to be avengedH5358 of the kingsH4428 enemiesH0341. But SaulH7586 thoughtH2803 to make DavidH1732 fallH5307 by the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. 26And when his servantsH5650 toldH5046 DavidH1732 these wordsH1697, it pleasedH3474 DavidH1732 well to be the kingsH4428 son in lawH2859: and the daysH3117 were not expiredH4390. 27Wherefore DavidH1732 aroseH6965 and wentH3212, he and his menH0582, and slewH5221 of the PhilistinesH6430 two hundredH3967 menH0376; and DavidH1732 broughtH0935 their foreskinsH6190, and they gave them in full taleH4390 to the kingH4428, that he might be the kingsH4428 son in lawH2859. And SaulH7586 gaveH5414 him MichalH4324 his daughterH1323 to wifeH0802.

28And SaulH7586 sawH7200 and knewH3045 that the LORDH3068 was with DavidH1732, and that MichalH4324 SaulsH7586 daughterH1323 lovedH0157 him. 29And SaulH7586 was yet the moreH3254 afraidH3372 ofH6440 DavidH1732; and SaulH7586 became DavidsH1732 enemyH0341 continuallyH3117. 30Then the princesH8269 of the PhilistinesH6430 went forthH3318: and it came to pass, afterH1767 they went forthH3318, that DavidH1732 behaved himself more wiselyH7919 than all the servantsH5650 of SaulH7586; so that his nameH8034 was muchH3966 set byH3365.

1 Samuel: Chapter 19

1And SaulH7586 spakeH1696 to JonathanH3129 his sonH1121, and to all his servantsH5650, that they should killH4191 DavidH1732. 2But JonathanH3083 SaulsH7586 sonH1121 delightedH2654 muchH3966 in DavidH1732: and JonathanH3083 toldH5046 DavidH1732, sayingH0559, SaulH7586 my fatherH0001 seekethH1245 to killH4191 thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heedH8104 to thyself until the morningH1242, and abideH3427 in a secretH5643 place , and hideH2244 thyself: 3And I will go outH3318 and standH5975 besideH3027 my fatherH0001 in the fieldH7704 where thou art , and I will communeH1696 with my fatherH0001 of thee; and whatH4100 I seeH7200, that I will tellH5046 thee.

4And JonathanH3083 spakeH1696 goodH2896 of DavidH1732 unto SaulH7586 his fatherH0001, and saidH0559 unto him, Let not the kingH4428 sinH2398 against his servantH5650, against DavidH1732; because he hath not sinnedH2398 against thee, and because his worksH4639 have been to thee-ward veryH3966 goodH2896: 5For he did putH7760 his lifeH5315 in his handH3709, and slewH5221 the PhilistineH6430, and the LORDH3068 wroughtH6213 a greatH1419 salvationH8668 for all IsraelH3478: thou sawestH7200 it , and didst rejoiceH8055: wherefore then wilt thou sinH2398 against innocentH5355 bloodH1818, to slayH4191 DavidH1732 without a causeH2600? 6And SaulH7586 hearkenedH8085 unto the voiceH6963 of JonathanH3083: and SaulH7586 swareH7650, As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, he shall notH0518 be slainH4191. 7And JonathanH3083 calledH7121 DavidH1732, and JonathanH3083 shewedH5046 him all those thingsH1697. And JonathanH3083 broughtH0935 DavidH1732 to SaulH7586, and he was in his presenceH6440, as in times pastH0865.

8And there was warH4421 againH3254: and DavidH1732 went outH3318, and foughtH3898 with the PhilistinesH6430, and slewH5221 them with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347; and they fledH5127 fromH6440 him. 9And the evilH7451 spiritH7307 from the LORDH3068 was upon SaulH7586, as he satH3427 in his houseH1004 with his javelinH2595 in his handH3027: and DavidH1732 playedH5059 with his handH3027. 10And SaulH7586 soughtH1245 to smiteH5221 DavidH1732 even to the wallH7023 with the javelinH2595; but he slipped awayH6362 out of SaulsH7586 presenceH6440, and he smoteH5221 the javelinH2595 into the wallH7023: and DavidH1732 fledH5127, and escapedH4422 that nightH3915.

11 SaulH7586 also sentH7971 messengersH4397 unto DavidsH1732 houseH1004, to watchH8104 him, and to slayH4191 him in the morningH1242: and MichalH4324 DavidsH1732 wifeH0802 toldH5046 him, sayingH0559, If thou saveH4422 not thy lifeH5315 to nightH3915, to morrowH4279 thou shalt be slainH4191.

12So MichalH4324 letH3381 DavidH1732 downH3381 through a windowH2474: and he wentH3212, and fledH1272, and escapedH4422. 13And MichalH4324 tookH3947 an imageH8655, and laidH7760 it in the bedH4296, and putH7760 a pillowH3523 of goatsH5795 hair for his bolsterH4763, and coveredH3680 it with a clothH0899. 14And when SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to takeH3947 DavidH1732, she saidH0559, He is sickH2470. 15And SaulH7586 sentH7971 the messengersH4397 again to seeH7200 DavidH1732, sayingH0559, Bring him upH5927 to me in the bedH4296, that I may slayH4191 him. 16And when the messengersH4397 were come inH0935, behold, there was an imageH8655 in the bedH4296, with a pillowH3523 of goatsH5795 hair for his bolsterH4763. 17And SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto MichalH4324, Why hast thou deceived me soH7411, and sent awayH7971 mine enemyH0341, that he is escapedH4422? And MichalH4324 answeredH0559 SaulH7586, He saidH0559 unto me, Let me goH7971; why should I killH4191 thee?

18So DavidH1732 fledH1272, and escapedH4422, and cameH0935 to SamuelH8050 to RamahH7414, and toldH5046 him all that SaulH7586 had doneH6213 to him. And he and SamuelH8050 wentH3212 and dweltH3427 in NaiothH5121. 19And it was toldH5046 SaulH7586, sayingH0559, Behold, DavidH1732 is at NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414. 20And SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to takeH3947 DavidH1732: and when they sawH7200 the companyH3862 of the prophetsH5030 prophesyingH5012, and SamuelH8050 standingH5975 as appointedH5324 over them, the SpiritH7307 of GodH0430 was upon the messengersH4397 of SaulH7586, and they also prophesiedH5012. 21And when it was toldH5046 SaulH7586, he sentH7971 otherH0312 messengersH4397, and they prophesiedH5012 likewise. And SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 againH3254 the thirdH7992 time, and they prophesiedH5012 also. 22Then wentH3212 he also to RamahH7414, and cameH0935 to a greatH1419 wellH0953 that is in SechuH7906: and he askedH7592 and saidH0559, WhereH0375 are SamuelH8050 and DavidH1732? And one saidH0559, Behold, they be at NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414. 23And he wentH3212 thither to NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414: and the SpiritH7307 of GodH0430 was upon him also, and he wentH3212 onH1980, and prophesiedH5012, until he cameH0935 to NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414. 24And he stripped offH6584 his clothesH0899 alsoH1571, and prophesiedH5012 beforeH6440 SamuelH8050 in like manner, and lay downH5307 nakedH6174 all that dayH3117 and all that nightH3915. Wherefore they sayH0559, Is SaulH7586 also among the prophetsH5030?

1 Samuel: Chapter 20

1And DavidH1732 fledH1272 from NaiothH5121 in RamahH7414, and cameH0935 and saidH0559 beforeH6440 JonathanH3083, What have I doneH6213? what is mine iniquityH5771? and what is my sinH2403 beforeH6440 thy fatherH0001, that he seekethH1245 my lifeH5315? 2And he saidH0559 unto him, God forbidH2486; thou shalt not dieH4191: behold, my fatherH0001 will doH6213 nothingH1697 either greatH1419 or smallH6996, but that he will shewH1540 it me: and why should my fatherH0001 hideH5641 this thingH1697 from me? it is not so . 3And DavidH1732 swareH7650 moreover, and saidH0559, Thy fatherH0001 certainlyH3045 knowethH3045 that I have foundH4672 graceH2580 in thine eyesH5869; and he saithH0559, Let not JonathanH3083 knowH3045 this, lest he be grievedH6087: but trulyH0199 as the LORDH3068 livethH2416, and as thy soulH5315 livethH2416, there is but a stepH6587 between me and deathH4194. 4Then saidH0559 JonathanH3083 unto DavidH1732, Whatsoever thy soulH5315 desirethH0559, I will even doH6213 it for thee. 5And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto JonathanH3083, Behold, to morrowH4279 is the new moonH2320, and I should not failH3427 to sitH3427 with the kingH4428 at meatH0398: but let me goH7971, that I may hideH5641 myself in the fieldH7704 unto the thirdH7992 day at evenH6153. 6If thy fatherH0001 at allH6485 missH6485 me, then sayH0559, DavidH1732 earnestlyH7592 askedH7592 leave of me that he might runH7323 to Beth-lehemH1035 his cityH5892: for there is a yearlyH3117 sacrificeH2077 there for all the familyH4940. 7If he sayH0559 thus, It is wellH2896; thy servantH5650 shall have peaceH7965: but if he be veryH2734 wrothH2734, then be sureH3045 that evilH7451 is determinedH3615 by him. 8Therefore thou shalt dealH6213 kindlyH2617 with thy servantH5650; for thou hast broughtH0935 thy servantH5650 into a covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068 with thee: notwithstanding, if there beH3426 in me iniquityH5771, slayH4191 me thyself; for why shouldest thou bringH0935 me to thy fatherH0001?

9And JonathanH3083 saidH0559, Far be it from theeH2486: for if I knewH3045 certainlyH3045 that evilH7451 were determinedH3615 by my fatherH0001 to comeH0935 upon thee, then would not I tellH5046 it thee? 10Then saidH0559 DavidH1732 to JonathanH3083, Who shall tellH5046 me? or what if thy fatherH0001 answerH6030 thee roughlyH7186?

11And JonathanH3083 saidH0559 unto DavidH1732, ComeH3212, and let us go outH3318 into the fieldH7704. And they went outH3318 bothH8147 of them into the fieldH7704. 12And JonathanH3083 saidH0559 unto DavidH1732, O LORDH3068 GodH0430 of IsraelH3478, when I have soundedH2713 my fatherH0001 about to morrowH4279 any timeH6256, or the thirdH7992 day , and, behold, if there be goodH2895 toward DavidH1732, and I then sendH7971 not unto thee, and shewH1540 it thee; 13The LORDH3068 doH6213 soH3541 and much moreH3254 to JonathanH3083: but if it pleaseH3190 my fatherH0001 to do thee evilH7451, then I will shewH1540 it thee, and send thee awayH7971, that thou mayest goH1980 in peaceH7965: and the LORDH3068 be with thee, as he hath been with my fatherH0001. 14And thou shalt not only while yetH0518 I liveH2416 shewH6213 me the kindnessH2617 of the LORDH3068, that I dieH4191 not: 15But also thou shalt not cut offH3772 thy kindnessH2617 from my houseH1004 forH5704 everH5769: no, not when the LORDH3068 hath cut offH3772 the enemiesH0341 of DavidH1732 every oneH0376 from the faceH6440 of the earthH0127. 16So JonathanH3083 madeH3772 a covenant with the houseH1004 of DavidH1732, saying , Let the LORDH3068 even requireH1245 it at the handH3027 of DavidsH1732 enemiesH0341. 17And JonathanH3083 caused DavidH1732 to swearH7650 againH3254, because he lovedH0160 him: for he lovedH0157 him as he lovedH0160 his own soulH5315. 18Then JonathanH3083 saidH0559 to DavidH1732, To morrowH4279 is the new moonH2320: and thou shalt be missedH6485, because thy seatH4186 will be emptyH6485. 19And when thou hast stayed three daysH8027, then thou shalt go downH3381 quicklyH3966, and comeH0935 to the placeH4725 where thou didst hideH5641 thyself whenH3117 the businessH4639 was in hand , and shalt remainH3427 byH0681 the stoneH0068 EzelH0237. 20And I will shootH3384 threeH7969 arrowsH2671 on the sideH6654 thereof , as though I shotH7971 at a markH4307. 21And, behold, I will sendH7971 a ladH5288, saying , GoH3212, find outH4672 the arrowsH2671. If I expresslyH0559 sayH0559 unto the ladH5288, Behold, the arrowsH2671 are on this side of thee, takeH3947 them; then comeH0935 thou: for there is peaceH7965 to thee, and no hurtH1697; as the LORDH3068 livethH2416. 22But if I sayH0559 thus unto the young manH5958, Behold, the arrowsH2671 are beyondH1973 thee; go thy wayH3212: for the LORDH3068 hath sent thee awayH7971. 23And as touching the matterH1697 which thou and I have spokenH1696 of, behold, the LORDH3068 be between thee and me forH5704 everH5769.

24So DavidH1732 hidH5641 himself in the fieldH7704: and when the new moonH2320 was come, the kingH4428 sat him downH3427 to eatH0398 meatH3899. 25And the kingH4428 satH3427 upon his seatH4186, as at other timesH6471, even upon a seatH4186 by the wallH7023: and JonathanH3083 aroseH6965, and AbnerH0074 satH3427 by SaulsH7586 sideH6654, and DavidsH1732 placeH4725 was emptyH6485. 26Nevertheless SaulH7586 spakeH1696 not any thingH3972 that dayH3117: for he thoughtH0559, Something hath befallenH4745 him, he is notH1115 cleanH2889; surely he is not cleanH2889. 27And it came to pass on the morrowH4283, which was the secondH8145 day of the monthH2320, that DavidsH1732 placeH4725 was emptyH6485: and SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto JonathanH3083 his sonH1121, Wherefore comethH0935 not the sonH1121 of JesseH3448 to meatH3899, neither yesterdayH8543, nor to dayH3117? 28And JonathanH3083 answeredH6030 SaulH7586, DavidH1732 earnestlyH7592 askedH7592 leave of meH5978 to go to Beth-lehemH1035: 29And he saidH0559, Let me goH7971, I pray thee; for our familyH4940 hath a sacrificeH2077 in the cityH5892; and my brotherH0251, he hath commandedH6680 me to be there: and now, if I have foundH4672 favourH2580 in thine eyesH5869, let me get awayH4422, I pray thee, and seeH7200 my brethrenH0251. Therefore he comethH0935 not unto the kingsH4428 tableH7979. 30Then SaulsH7586 angerH0639 was kindledH2734 against JonathanH3083, and he saidH0559 unto him, Thou sonH1121 of the perverseH5753 rebelliousH4780 woman , do not I knowH3045 that thou hast chosenH0977 the sonH1121 of JesseH3448 to thine own confusionH1322, and unto the confusionH1322 of thy mothersH0517 nakednessH6172? 31For as long asH3117 the sonH1121 of JesseH3448 livethH2425 upon the groundH0127, thou shalt not be establishedH3559, nor thy kingdomH4438. Wherefore now sendH7971 and fetchH3947 him unto me, for he shall surely dieH1121. 32And JonathanH3083 answeredH6030 SaulH7586 his fatherH0001, and saidH0559 unto him, Wherefore shall he be slainH4191? what hath he doneH6213? 33And SaulH7586 castH2904 a javelinH2595 at him to smiteH5221 him: whereby JonathanH3083 knewH3045 that it was determinedH3617 of his fatherH0001 to slayH4191 DavidH1732. 34So JonathanH3083 aroseH6965 from the tableH7979 in fierceH2750 angerH0639, and did eatH0398 no meatH3899 the secondH8145 dayH3117 of the monthH2320: for he was grievedH6087 for DavidH1732, because his fatherH0001 had done him shameH3637.

35And it came to pass in the morningH1242, that JonathanH3083 went outH3318 into the fieldH7704 at the time appointedH4150 with DavidH1732, and a littleH6996 ladH5288 with him. 36And he saidH0559 unto his ladH5288, RunH7323, find outH4672 now the arrowsH2671 which I shootH3384. And as the ladH5288 ranH7323, he shotH3384 an arrowH2678 beyondH5674 him. 37And when the ladH5288 was comeH0935 to the placeH4725 of the arrowH2678 which JonathanH3083 had shotH3384, JonathanH3083 criedH7121 afterH0310 the ladH5288, and saidH0559, Is not the arrowH2678 beyondH1973 thee? 38And JonathanH3083 criedH7121 afterH0310 the ladH5288, Make speedH4120, hasteH2363, stayH5975 not. And JonathansH3083 ladH5288 gathered upH3950 the arrowsH2671, and cameH0935 to his masterH0113. 39But the ladH5288 knewH3045 not any thingH3972: only JonathanH3083 and DavidH1732 knewH3045 the matterH1697. 40And JonathanH3083 gaveH5414 his artilleryH3627 unto his ladH5288, and saidH0559 unto him, GoH3212, carryH0935 them to the cityH5892.

41 And as soon as the ladH5288 was goneH0935, DavidH1732 aroseH6965 out of a place towardH0681 the southH5045, and fellH5307 on his faceH0639 to the groundH0776, and bowedH7812 himself threeH7969 timesH6471: and they kissedH5401 oneH0376 anotherH7453, and weptH1058 oneH0376 with anotherH7453, until DavidH1732 exceededH1431. 42And JonathanH3083 saidH0559 to DavidH1732, GoH3212 in peaceH7965, forasmuch as we have swornH7650 bothH8147 of us in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068, sayingH0559, The LORDH3068 be between me and thee, and between my seedH2233 and thy seedH2233 forH5704 everH5769. And he aroseH6965 and departedH3212: and JonathanH3083 wentH0935 into the cityH5892.

1 Samuel: Chapter 21

1Then cameH0935 DavidH1732 to NobH5011 to AhimelechH0288 the priestH3548: and AhimelechH0288 was afraidH2729 at the meetingH7125 of DavidH1732, and saidH0559 unto him, Why art thou alone, and no manH0376 with thee? 2And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto AhimelechH0288 the priestH3548, The kingH4428 hath commandedH6680 me a businessH1697, and hath saidH0559 unto me, Let no manH0376 knowH3045 any thingH3972 of the businessH1697 whereabout I sendH7971 thee, and what I have commandedH6680 thee: and I have appointedH3045 my servantsH5288 to suchH6423 and suchH0492 a placeH4725. 3Now therefore what isH3426 under thine handH3027? giveH5414 me fiveH2568 loaves of breadH3899 in mine handH3027, or what there is presentH4672. 4And the priestH3548 answeredH6030 DavidH1732, and saidH0559, There is no commonH2455 breadH3899 under mine handH3027, but there isH3426 hallowedH6944 breadH3899; if the young menH5288 have keptH8104 themselves at leastH0389 from womenH0802. 5And DavidH1732 answeredH6030 the priestH3548, and saidH0559 unto him, Of a truthH0518 womenH0802 have been keptH6113 from us about these threeH8032 daysH8543, since I came outH3318, and the vesselsH3627 of the young menH5288 are holyH6944, and the bread is in a mannerH1870 commonH2455, yea, though it were sanctifiedH6942 this dayH3117 in the vesselH3627. 6So the priestH3548 gaveH5414 him hallowedH6944 bread: for there was no breadH3899 there but the shewbreadH3899, that was takenH5493 from beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, to putH7760 hotH2527 breadH3899 in the dayH3117 when it was taken awayH3947. 7Now a certain manH0376 of the servantsH5650 of SaulH7586 was there that dayH3117, detainedH6113 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068; and his nameH8034 was DoegH1673, an EdomiteH0130, the chiefestH0047 of the herdmenH7462 that belonged to SaulH7586.

8And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto AhimelechH0288, And is thereH3426 notH0371 here under thine handH3027 spearH2595 or swordH2719? for I have neither broughtH3947 my swordH2719 nor my weaponsH3627 with meH3027, because the kingsH4428 businessH1697 requiredH1961 hasteH5169. 9And the priestH3548 saidH0559, The swordH2719 of GoliathH1555 the PhilistineH6430, whom thou slewestH5221 in the valleyH6010 of ElahH0425, behold, it is here wrappedH3874 in a clothH8071 behindH0310 the ephodH0646: if thou wilt takeH3947 that, takeH3947 it: for there is no otherH0312 saveH2108 that hereH2088. And DavidH1732 saidH0559, There is none like that; giveH5414 it me.

10And DavidH1732 aroseH6965, and fledH1272 that dayH3117 for fearH6440 of SaulH7586, and wentH0935 to AchishH0397 the kingH4428 of GathH1661. 11And the servantsH5650 of AchishH0397 saidH0559 unto him, Is not this DavidH1732 the kingH4428 of the landH0776? did they not singH6030 one to another of himH2088 in dancesH4246, sayingH0559, SaulH7586 hath slainH5221 his thousandsH0505, and DavidH1732 his ten thousandsH7233? 12And DavidH1732 laid upH7760 these wordsH1697 in his heartH3824, and was soreH3966 afraidH3372 ofH6440 AchishH0397 the kingH4428 of GathH1661. 13And he changedH8138 his behaviourH2940 beforeH5869 them, and feigned himself madH1984 in their handsH3027, and scrabbledH8427 on the doorsH1817 of the gateH8179, and let his spittleH7388 fall downH3381 upon his beardH2206. 14Then saidH0559 AchishH0397 unto his servantsH5650, Lo, ye seeH7200 the manH0376 is madH7696: wherefore then have ye broughtH0935 him to me? 15Have I needH2638 of mad menH7696, that ye have broughtH0935 this fellow to play the mad manH7696 in my presence? shall this fellow comeH0935 into my houseH1004?

1 Samuel: Chapter 22

1 DavidH1732 therefore departedH3212 thence, and escapedH4422 to the caveH4631 AdullamH5725: and when his brethrenH0251 and all his fathersH0001 houseH1004 heardH8085 it , they went downH3381 thither to him. 2And every oneH0376 that was in distressH4689, and every oneH0376 that was in debtH5378, and every oneH0376 that was discontentedH4751, gatheredH6908 themselves unto him; and he became a captainH8269 over them: and there were with him about fourH0702 hundredH3967 menH0376.

3And DavidH1732 wentH3212 thence to MizpehH4708 of MoabH4124: and he saidH0559 unto the kingH4428 of MoabH4124, Let my fatherH0001 and my motherH0517, I pray thee, come forthH3318, and be with you, till I knowH3045 what GodH0430 will doH6213 for me. 4And he broughtH5148 them beforeH6440 the kingH4428 of MoabH4124: and they dweltH3427 with him all the whileH3117 that DavidH1732 was in the holdH4686.

5And the prophetH5030 GadH1410 saidH0559 unto DavidH1732, AbideH3427 not in the holdH4686; departH3212, and getH0935 thee into the landH0776 of JudahH3063. Then DavidH1732 departedH3212, and cameH0935 into the forestH3293 of HarethH2802.

6When SaulH7586 heardH8085 that DavidH1732 was discoveredH3045, and the menH0582 that were with him, (now SaulH7586 abodeH3427 in GibeahH1390 under a treeH0815 in RamahH7414, having his spearH2595 in his handH3027, and all his servantsH5650 were standingH5324 about him;) 7Then SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto his servantsH5650 that stoodH5324 about him, Hear nowH8085, ye BenjamitesH1145; will the sonH1121 of JesseH3448 giveH5414 every one of you fieldsH7704 and vineyardsH3754, and makeH7760 you all captainsH8269 of thousandsH0505, and captainsH8269 of hundredsH3967; 8That all of you have conspiredH7194 against me, and there is none that shewethH1540 me that my sonH1121 hath made a leagueH3772 with the sonH1121 of JesseH3448, and there is none of you that is sorryH2470 for me, or shewethH1540 unto me that my sonH1121 hath stirred upH6965 my servantH5650 against me, to lie in waitH0693, as at this dayH3117?

9Then answeredH6030 DoegH1673 the EdomiteH0130, which was setH5324 over the servantsH5650 of SaulH7586, and saidH0559, I sawH7200 the sonH1121 of JesseH3448 comingH0935 to NobH5011, to AhimelechH0288 the sonH1121 of AhitubH0285. 10And he enquiredH7592 of the LORDH3068 for him, and gaveH5414 him victualsH6720, and gaveH5414 him the swordH2719 of GoliathH1555 the PhilistineH6430. 11Then the kingH4428 sentH7971 to callH7121 AhimelechH0288 the priestH3548, the sonH1121 of AhitubH0285, and all his fathersH0001 houseH1004, the priestsH3548 that were in NobH5011: and they cameH0935 all of them to the kingH4428. 12And SaulH7586 saidH0559, HearH8085 now, thou sonH1121 of AhitubH0285. And he answeredH0559, Here I am , my lordH0113. 13And SaulH7586 saidH0559 unto him, Why have ye conspiredH7194 against me, thou and the sonH1121 of JesseH3448, in that thou hast givenH5414 him breadH3899, and a swordH2719, and hast enquiredH7592 of GodH0430 for him, that he should riseH6965 against me, to lie in waitH0693, as at this dayH3117? 14Then AhimelechH0288 answeredH6030 the kingH4428, and saidH0559, And who is so faithfulH0539 among all thy servantsH5650 as DavidH1732, which is the kingsH4428 son in lawH2860, and goethH5493 at thy biddingH4928, and is honourableH3513 in thine houseH1004? 15Did I thenH3117 beginH2490 to enquireH7592 of GodH0430 for him? be it far from meH2486: let not the kingH4428 imputeH7760 any thingH1697 unto his servantH5650, nor to all the houseH1004 of my fatherH0001: for thy servantH5650 knewH3045 nothingH1697 of all this, lessH6996 or moreH1419. 16And the kingH4428 saidH0559, Thou shalt surelyH4191 dieH4191, AhimelechH0288, thou, and all thy fathersH0001 houseH1004.

17And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto the footmenH7323 that stoodH5324 about him, TurnH5437, and slayH4191 the priestsH3548 of the LORDH3068; because their handH3027 also is with DavidH1732, and because they knewH3045 when he fledH1272, and did not shewH1540 it to me. But the servantsH5650 of the kingH4428 wouldH0014 not put forthH7971 their handH3027 to fallH6293 upon the priestsH3548 of the LORDH3068. 18And the kingH4428 saidH0559 to DoegH1673, TurnH5437 thou, and fallH6293 upon the priestsH3548. And DoegH1673 the EdomiteH0130 turnedH5437, and he fellH6293 upon the priestsH3548, and slewH4191 on that dayH3117 fourscoreH8084 and fiveH2568 personsH0376 that did wearH5375 a linenH0906 ephodH0646. 19And NobH5011, the cityH5892 of the priestsH3548, smoteH5221 he with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719, both menH0376 and womenH0802, childrenH5768 and sucklingsH3243, and oxenH7794, and assesH2543, and sheepH7716, with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719.

20And oneH0259 of the sonsH1121 of AhimelechH0288 the sonH1121 of AhitubH0285, namedH8034 AbiatharH0054, escapedH4422, and fledH1272 afterH0310 DavidH1732. 21And AbiatharH0054 shewedH5046 DavidH1732 that SaulH7586 had slainH2026 the LORDsH3068 priestsH3548. 22And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto AbiatharH0054, I knewH3045 it that dayH3117, when DoegH1673 the EdomiteH0130 was there, that he would surelyH5046 tellH5046 SaulH7586: I have occasionedH5437 the death of all the personsH5315 of thy fathersH0001 houseH1004. 23AbideH3427 thou with me, fearH3372 not: for he that seekethH1245 my lifeH5315 seekethH1245 thy lifeH5315: but with me thou shalt be in safeguardH4931.

1 Samuel: Chapter 23

1Then they toldH5046 DavidH1732, sayingH0559, Behold, the PhilistinesH6430 fightH3898 against KeilahH7084, and they robH8154 the threshingfloorsH1637. 2Therefore DavidH1732 enquiredH7592 of the LORDH3068, sayingH0559, Shall I goH3212 and smiteH5221 these PhilistinesH6430? And the LORDH3068 saidH0559 unto DavidH1732, GoH3212, and smiteH5221 the PhilistinesH6430, and saveH3467 KeilahH7084. 3And DavidsH1732 menH0582 saidH0559 unto him, Behold, we be afraidH3373 here in JudahH3063: how much more then if we comeH3212 to KeilahH7084 against the armiesH4634 of the PhilistinesH6430? 4Then DavidH1732 enquiredH7592 of the LORDH3068 yet againH3254. And the LORDH3068 answeredH6030 him and saidH0559, AriseH6965, go downH3381 to KeilahH7084; for I will deliverH5414 the PhilistinesH6430 into thine handH3027. 5So DavidH1732 and his menH0582 wentH3212 to KeilahH7084, and foughtH3898 with the PhilistinesH6430, and brought awayH5090 their cattleH4735, and smoteH5221 them with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347. So DavidH1732 savedH3467 the inhabitantsH3427 of KeilahH7084. 6And it came to pass, when AbiatharH0054 the sonH1121 of AhimelechH0288 fledH1272 to DavidH1732 to KeilahH7084, that he came downH3381 with an ephodH0646 in his handH3027.

7And it was toldH5046 SaulH7586 that DavidH1732 was comeH0935 to KeilahH7084. And SaulH7586 saidH0559, GodH0430 hath deliveredH5234 him into mine handH3027; for he is shut inH5462, by enteringH0935 into a townH5892 that hath gatesH1817 and barsH1280. 8And SaulH7586 calledH8085 all the peopleH5971 togetherH8085 to warH4421, to go downH3381 to KeilahH7084, to besiegeH6696 DavidH1732 and his menH0582.

9And DavidH1732 knewH3045 that SaulH7586 secretly practisedH2790 mischiefH7451 against him; and he saidH0559 to AbiatharH0054 the priestH3548, Bring hitherH5066 the ephodH0646. 10Then saidH0559 DavidH1732, O LORDH3068 GodH0430 of IsraelH3478, thy servantH5650 hath certainlyH8085 heardH8085 that SaulH7586 seekethH1245 to comeH0935 to KeilahH7084, to destroyH7843 the cityH5892 for my sake. 11Will the menH1167 of KeilahH7084 deliver me upH5462 into his handH3027? will SaulH7586 come downH3381, as thy servantH5650 hath heardH8085? O LORDH3068 GodH0430 of IsraelH3478, I beseech thee, tellH5046 thy servantH5650. And the LORDH3068 saidH0559, He will come downH3381. 12Then saidH0559 DavidH1732, Will the menH1167 of KeilahH7084 deliverH5462 me and my menH0582 into the handH3027 of SaulH7586? And the LORDH3068 saidH0559, They will deliver thee upH5462.

13Then DavidH1732 and his menH0582, which were about sixH8337 hundredH3967, aroseH6965 and departedH3318 out of KeilahH7084, and wentH1980 whithersoeverH0834 they could goH1980. And it was toldH5046 SaulH7586 that DavidH1732 was escapedH4422 from KeilahH7084; and he forbareH2308 to go forthH3318.

14And DavidH1732 abodeH3427 in the wildernessH4057 in strong holdsH4679, and remainedH3427 in a mountainH2022 in the wildernessH4057 of ZiphH2128. And SaulH7586 soughtH1245 him every dayH3117, but GodH0430 deliveredH5414 him not into his handH3027. 15And DavidH1732 sawH7200 that SaulH7586 was come outH3318 to seekH1245 his lifeH5315: and DavidH1732 was in the wildernessH4057 of ZiphH2128 in a woodH2793.

16And JonathanH3083 SaulsH7586 sonH1121 aroseH6965, and wentH3212 to DavidH1732 into the woodH2793, and strengthenedH2388 his handH3027 in GodH0430. 17And he saidH0559 unto him, FearH3372 not: for the handH3027 of SaulH7586 my fatherH0001 shall not findH4672 thee; and thou shalt be kingH4427 over IsraelH3478, and I shall be nextH4932 unto thee; and that also SaulH7586 my fatherH0001 knowethH3045. 18And they twoH8147 madeH3772 a covenantH1285 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068: and DavidH1732 abodeH3427 in the woodH2793, and JonathanH3083 wentH1980 to his houseH1004.

19Then came upH5927 the ZiphitesH2130 to SaulH7586 to GibeahH1390, sayingH0559, Doth not DavidH1732 hideH5641 himself with us in strong holdsH4679 in the woodH2793, in the hillH1389 of HachilahH2444, which is on the southH3225 of JeshimonH3452? 20Now therefore, O kingH4428, come downH3381 according to all the desireH0185 of thy soulH5315 to come downH3381; and our part shall be to deliverH5462 him into the kingsH4428 handH3027. 21And SaulH7586 saidH0559, BlessedH1288 be ye of the LORDH3068; for ye have compassionH2550 on me. 22GoH3212, I pray you, prepareH3559 yet, and knowH3045 and seeH7200 his placeH4725 where his hauntH7272 is, and who hath seenH7200 him there: for it is toldH0559 me that he dealeth veryH6191 subtillyH6191. 23SeeH7200 therefore, and take knowledgeH3045 of all the lurking placesH4224 where he hidethH2244 himself, and come ye againH7725 to me with the certaintyH3559, and I will goH1980 with you: and it shall come to pass, if he beH3426 in the landH0776, that I will searchH2664 him out throughout all the thousandsH0505 of JudahH3063. 24And they aroseH6965, and wentH3212 to ZiphH2128 beforeH6440 SaulH7586: but DavidH1732 and his menH0582 were in the wildernessH4057 of MaonH4584, in the plainH6160 on the southH3225 of JeshimonH3452. 25 SaulH7586 also and his menH0582 wentH3212 to seekH1245 him . And they toldH5046 DavidH1732: wherefore he came downH3381 into a rockH5553, and abodeH3427 in the wildernessH4057 of MaonH4584. And when SaulH7586 heardH8085 that , he pursuedH7291 afterH0310 DavidH1732 in the wildernessH4057 of MaonH4584. 26And SaulH7586 wentH3212 on this sideH6654 of the mountainH2022, and DavidH1732 and his menH0582 on that sideH6654 of the mountainH2022: and DavidH1732 made hasteH2648 to get awayH3212 for fearH6440 of SaulH7586; for SaulH7586 and his menH0582 compassedH5849 DavidH1732 and his menH0582 round aboutH5849 to takeH8610 them.

27But there cameH0935 a messengerH4397 unto SaulH7586, sayingH0559, HasteH4116 thee, and comeH3212; for the PhilistinesH6430 have invadedH6584 the landH0776. 28Wherefore SaulH7586 returnedH7725 from pursuingH7291 afterH0310 DavidH1732, and wentH3212 againstH7125 the PhilistinesH6430: therefore they calledH7121 that placeH4725 Sela-hammahlekothH5555.

29And DavidH1732 went upH5927 from thence, and dweltH3427 in strong holdsH4679 at En-gediH5872.

1 Samuel: Chapter 24

1And it came to pass, when SaulH7586 was returnedH7725 from followingH0310 the PhilistinesH6430, that it was toldH5046 him, sayingH0559, Behold, DavidH1732 is in the wildernessH4057 of En-gediH5872. 2Then SaulH7586 tookH3947 threeH7969 thousandH0505 chosenH0977 menH0376 out of all IsraelH3478, and wentH3212 to seekH1245 DavidH1732 and his menH0582 uponH6440 the rocksH6697 of the wild goatsH3277. 3And he cameH0935 to the sheepcotesH1448 by the wayH1870, where was a caveH4631; and SaulH7586 went inH0935 to coverH5526 his feetH7272: and DavidH1732 and his menH0582 remainedH3427 in the sidesH3411 of the caveH4631. 4And the menH0582 of DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto him, Behold the dayH3117 of which the LORDH3068 saidH0559 unto thee, Behold, I will deliverH5414 thine enemyH0341 into thine handH3027, that thou mayest doH6213 to him as it shall seem goodH3190 unto theeH5869. Then DavidH1732 aroseH6965, and cut offH3772 the skirtH3671 of SaulsH7586 robeH4598 privilyH3909. 5And it came to pass afterwardH0310, that DavidsH1732 heartH3820 smoteH5221 him, because he had cut offH3772 SaulsH7586 skirtH3671. 6And he saidH0559 unto his menH0582, The LORDH3068 forbidH2486 that I should doH6213 this thingH1697 unto my masterH0113, the LORDsH3068 anointedH4899, to stretch forthH7971 mine handH3027 against him, seeing he is the anointedH4899 of the LORDH3068. 7So DavidH1732 stayedH8156 his servantsH0582 with these wordsH1697, and sufferedH5414 them not to riseH6965 against SaulH7586. But SaulH7586 rose upH6965 out of the caveH4631, and wentH3212 on his wayH1870. 8 DavidH1732 also aroseH6965 afterward, and went outH3318 of the caveH4631, and criedH7121 afterH0310 SaulH7586, sayingH0559, My lordH0113 the kingH4428. And when SaulH7586 lookedH5027 behindH0310 him, DavidH1732 stoopedH6915 with his faceH0639 to the earthH0776, and bowedH7812 himself.

9And DavidH1732 saidH0559 to SaulH7586, Wherefore hearestH8085 thou mensH0120 wordsH1697, sayingH0559, Behold, DavidH1732 seekethH1245 thy hurtH7451? 10Behold, this dayH3117 thine eyesH5869 have seenH7200 how that the LORDH3068 had deliveredH5414 thee to dayH3117 into mine handH3027 in the caveH4631: and some badeH0559 me killH2026 thee: but mine eye sparedH2347 thee; and I saidH0559, I will not put forthH7971 mine handH3027 against my lordH0113; for he is the LORDsH3068 anointedH4899. 11Moreover, my fatherH0001, seeH7200, yea, seeH7200 the skirtH3671 of thy robeH4598 in my handH3027: for in that I cut offH3772 the skirtH3671 of thy robeH4598, and killedH2026 thee not, knowH3045 thou and seeH7200 that there is neither evilH7451 nor transgressionH6588 in mine handH3027, and I have not sinnedH2398 against thee; yet thou huntestH6658 my soulH5315 to takeH3947 it. 12The LORDH3068 judgeH8199 between me and thee, and the LORDH3068 avengeH5358 me of thee: but mine handH3027 shall not be upon thee. 13As saithH0559 the proverbH4912 of the ancientsH6931, WickednessH7562 proceedethH3318 from the wickedH7563: but mine handH3027 shall not be upon thee. 14AfterH0310 whom is the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 come outH3318? afterH0310 whom dost thou pursueH7291? afterH0310 a deadH4191 dogH3611, afterH0310 aH0259 fleaH6550. 15The LORDH3068 therefore be judgeH1781, and judgeH8199 between me and thee, and seeH7200, and pleadH7378 my causeH7379, and deliverH8199 me out of thine handH3027.

16And it came to pass, when DavidH1732 had made an endH3615 of speakingH1696 these wordsH1697 unto SaulH7586, that SaulH7586 saidH0559, Is this thy voiceH6963, my sonH1121 DavidH1732? And SaulH7586 lifted upH5375 his voiceH6963, and weptH1058. 17And he saidH0559 to DavidH1732, Thou art more righteousH6662 than I: for thou hast rewardedH1580 me goodH2896, whereas I have rewardedH1580 thee evilH7451. 18And thou hast shewedH5046 this dayH3117 how that thou hast dealtH6213 wellH2896 with me: forasmuch as when the LORDH3068 had deliveredH5462 me into thine handH3027, thou killedstH2026 me not. 19For if a manH0376 findH4672 his enemyH0341, will he let him goH7971 wellH2896 awayH1870? wherefore the LORDH3068 rewardH7999 thee goodH2896 for that thou hast doneH6213 unto me this dayH3117. 20And now, behold, I know wellH3045 that thou shalt surelyH4427 be kingH4427, and that the kingdomH4467 of IsraelH3478 shall be establishedH6965 in thine handH3027. 21SwearH7650 now therefore unto me by the LORDH3068, that thou wilt notH0518 cut offH3772 my seedH2233 afterH0310 me, and that thou wilt not destroyH8045 my nameH8034 out of my fathersH0001 houseH1004. 22And DavidH1732 swareH7650 unto SaulH7586. And SaulH7586 wentH3212 homeH1004; but DavidH1732 and his menH0582 gat them upH5927 unto the holdH4686.

1 Samuel: Chapter 25

1And SamuelH8050 diedH4191; and all the IsraelitesH3478 were gathered togetherH6908, and lamentedH5594 him, and buriedH6912 him in his houseH1004 at RamahH7414. And DavidH1732 aroseH6965, and went downH3381 to the wildernessH4057 of ParanH6290.

2And there was a manH0376 in MaonH4584, whose possessionsH4639 were in CarmelH3760; and the manH0376 was veryH3966 greatH1419, and he had threeH7969 thousandH0505 sheepH6629, and a thousandH0505 goatsH5795: and he was shearingH1494 his sheepH6629 in CarmelH3760. 3Now the nameH8034 of the manH0376 was NabalH5037; and the nameH8034 of his wifeH0802 AbigailH0026: and she was a womanH0802 of goodH2896 understandingH7922, and of a beautifulH3303 countenanceH8389: but the manH0376 was churlishH7186 and evilH7451 in his doingsH4611; and he was of the house of CalebH3614.

4And DavidH1732 heardH8085 in the wildernessH4057 that NabalH5037 did shearH1494 his sheepH6629. 5And DavidH1732 sent outH7971 tenH6235 young menH5288, and DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto the young menH5288, Get you upH5927 to CarmelH3760, and goH0935 to NabalH5037, and greetH7592 him in my nameH8034: 6And thus shall ye sayH0559 to him that livethH2416 in prosperity , PeaceH7965 be both to thee, and peaceH7965 be to thine houseH1004, and peaceH7965 be unto all that thou hast. 7And now I have heardH8085 that thou hast shearersH1494: now thy shepherdsH7462 which were with us, we hurtH3637 them not, neither was there oughtH3972 missingH6485 unto them, all the whileH3117 they were in CarmelH3760. 8AskH7592 thy young menH5288, and they will shewH5046 thee. Wherefore let the young menH5288 findH4672 favourH2580 in thine eyesH5869: for we comeH0935 in a goodH2896 dayH3117: giveH5414, I pray thee, whatsoever comethH4672 to thine handH3027 unto thy servantsH5650, and to thy sonH1121 DavidH1732. 9And when DavidsH1732 young menH5288 cameH0935, they spakeH1696 to NabalH5037 according to all those wordsH1697 in the nameH8034 of DavidH1732, and ceasedH5117.

10And NabalH5037 answeredH6030 DavidsH1732 servantsH5650, and saidH0559, Who is DavidH1732? and who is the sonH1121 of JesseH3448? there be manyH7231 servantsH5650 now a daysH3117 that break awayH6555 every manH0376 fromH6440 his masterH0113. 11Shall I then takeH3947 my breadH3899, and my waterH4325, and my fleshH2878 that I have killedH2873 for my shearersH1494, and giveH5414 it unto menH0582, whom I knowH3045 not whence they be ?

12So DavidsH1732 young menH5288 turnedH2015 their wayH1870, and went againH7725, and cameH0935 and toldH5046 him all those sayingsH1697. 13And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto his menH0582, Gird ye onH2296 every manH0376 his swordH2719. And they girded onH2296 every manH0376 his swordH2719; and DavidH1732 also girded onH2296 his swordH2719: and there went upH5927 afterH0310 DavidH1732 about fourH0702 hundredH3967 menH0376; and two hundredH3967 abodeH3427 by the stuffH3627.

14But oneH0259 of the young menH5288 toldH5046 AbigailH0026, NabalsH5037 wifeH0802, sayingH0559, Behold, DavidH1732 sentH7971 messengersH4397 out of the wildernessH4057 to saluteH1288 our masterH0113; and he railedH5860 on them. 15But the menH0582 were veryH3966 goodH2896 unto us, and we were not hurtH3637, neither missedH6485 we any thingH3972, as long asH3117 we were conversantH1980 with them, when we were in the fieldsH7704: 16They were a wallH2346 unto us both by nightH3915 and dayH3119, all the whileH3117 we were with them keepingH7462 the sheepH6629. 17Now therefore knowH3045 and considerH7200 what thou wilt doH6213; for evilH7451 is determinedH3615 against our masterH0113, and against all his householdH1004: for he is such a sonH1121 of BelialH1100, that a man cannot speakH1696 to him.

18Then AbigailH0026 made hasteH4116, and tookH3947 two hundredH3967 loavesH3899, and twoH8147 bottlesH5035 of wineH3196, and fiveH2568 sheepH6629 ready dressedH6213, and fiveH2568 measuresH5429 of parchedH7039 corn , and an hundredH3967 clusters of raisinsH6778, and two hundredH3967 cakesH1690 of figs, and laidH7760 them on assesH2543. 19And she saidH0559 unto her servantsH5288, Go onH5674 beforeH6440 me; behold, I comeH0935 afterH0310 you. But she toldH5046 not her husbandH0376 NabalH5037. 20And it was so, as she rodeH7392 on the assH2543, that she came downH3381 by the covertH5643 of the hillH2022, and, behold, DavidH1732 and his menH0582 came downH3381 againstH7125 her; and she metH6298 them. 21Now DavidH1732 had saidH0559, Surely in vainH8267 have I keptH8104 all that thisH2088 fellow hath in the wildernessH4057, so that nothingH3972 was missedH6485 of all that pertained unto him: and he hath requitedH7725 me evilH7451 for goodH2896. 22 SoH3541 and moreH3254 also doH6213 GodH0430 unto the enemiesH0341 of DavidH1732, if I leaveH7604 of all that pertain to him byH5704 the morningH1242 lightH0216 any that pissethH8366 against the wallH7023. 23And when AbigailH0026 sawH7200 DavidH1732, she hastedH4116, and lighted offH3381 the assH2543, and fellH5307 beforeH0639 DavidH1732 on her faceH6440, and bowedH7812 herself to the groundH0776, 24And fellH5307 at his feetH7272, and saidH0559, Upon me, my lordH0113, upon me let this iniquityH5771 be: and let thine handmaidH0519, I pray thee, speakH1696 in thine audienceH0241, and hearH8085 the wordsH1697 of thine handmaidH0589. 25LetH7760 not my lordH0113, I pray thee, regardH3820 this manH0376 of BelialH1100, even NabalH5037: for as his nameH8034 is , so is he; NabalH5037 is his nameH8034, and follyH5039 is with him: but I thine handmaidH0519 sawH7200 not the young menH5288 of my lordH0113, whom thou didst sendH7971. 26Now therefore, my lordH0113, as the LORDH3068 livethH2416, and as thy soulH5315 livethH2416, seeing the LORDH3068 hath withholdenH4513 thee from comingH0935 to shed bloodH1818, and from avengingH3467 thyself with thine own handH3027, now let thine enemiesH0341, and they that seekH1245 evilH7451 to my lordH0113, be as NabalH5037. 27And now this blessingH1293 which thine handmaidH8198 hath broughtH0935 unto my lordH0113, let it even be givenH5414 unto the young menH5288 that followH1980 my lordH0113. 28I pray thee, forgiveH5375 the trespassH6588 of thine handmaidH0519: for the LORDH3068 will certainlyH6213 makeH6213 my lordH0113 a sureH0539 houseH1004; because my lordH0113 fightethH3898 the battlesH4421 of the LORDH3068, and evilH7451 hath not been foundH4672 in thee all thy daysH3117. 29Yet a manH0120 is risenH6965 to pursueH7291 thee, and to seekH1245 thy soulH5315: but the soulH5315 of my lordH0113 shall be boundH6887 in the bundleH6872 of lifeH2416 with the LORDH3068 thy GodH0430; and the soulsH5315 of thine enemiesH0341, them shall he sling outH7049, as out of the middleH8432 of a slingH7050. 30And it shall come to pass, when the LORDH3068 shall have doneH6213 to my lordH0113 according to all the goodH2896 that he hath spokenH1696 concerning thee, and shall have appointedH6680 thee rulerH5057 over IsraelH3478; 31That this shall be no griefH6330 unto thee, nor offenceH4383 of heartH3820 unto my lordH0113, either that thou hast shedH8210 bloodH1818 causelessH2600, or that my lordH0113 hath avengedH3467 himself: but when the LORDH3068 shall have dealt wellH3190 with my lordH0113, then rememberH2142 thine handmaidH0519.

32And DavidH1732 saidH0559 to AbigailH0026, BlessedH1288 be the LORDH3068 GodH0430 of IsraelH3478, which sentH7971 thee this dayH3117 to meetH7125 me: 33And blessedH1288 be thy adviceH2940, and blessedH1288 be thou, which hast keptH3607 me this dayH3117 from comingH0935 to shed bloodH1818, and from avengingH3467 myself with mine own handH3027. 34For in very deedH0199, as the LORDH3068 GodH0430 of IsraelH3478 livethH2416, which hath kept me backH4513 from hurtingH7489 thee, exceptH3884 thou hadst hastedH4116 and comeH0935 to meetH7125 me, surely there had not been leftH3498 unto NabalH5037 by the morningH1242 lightH0216 any that pissethH8366 against the wallH7023. 35So DavidH1732 receivedH3947 of her handH3027 that which she had broughtH0935 him, and saidH0559 unto her, Go upH5927 in peaceH7965 to thine houseH1004; seeH7200, I have hearkenedH8085 to thy voiceH6963, and have acceptedH5375 thy personH6440.

36And AbigailH0026 cameH0935 to NabalH5037; and, behold, he held a feastH4960 in his houseH1004, like the feastH4960 of a kingH4428; and NabalsH5037 heartH3820 was merryH2896 within him, for he was veryH3966 drunkenH7910: wherefore she toldH5046 him nothingH1697, lessH6996 or moreH1419, until the morningH1242 lightH0216. 37But it came to pass in the morningH1242, when the wineH3196 was gone outH3318 of NabalH5037, and his wifeH0802 had toldH5046 him these thingsH1697, that his heartH3820 diedH4191 withinH7130 him, and he became as a stoneH0068. 38And it came to pass about tenH6235 daysH3117 after , that the LORDH3068 smoteH5062 NabalH5037, that he diedH4191.

39And when DavidH1732 heardH8085 that NabalH5037 was deadH4191, he saidH0559, BlessedH1288 be the LORDH3068, that hath pleadedH7378 the causeH7379 of my reproachH2781 from the handH3027 of NabalH5037, and hath keptH2820 his servantH5650 from evilH7451: for the LORDH3068 hath returnedH7725 the wickednessH7451 of NabalH5037 upon his own headH7218. And DavidH1732 sentH7971 and communedH1696 with AbigailH0026, to takeH3947 her to him to wifeH0802. 40And when the servantsH5650 of DavidH1732 were comeH0935 to AbigailH0026 to CarmelH3760, they spakeH1696 unto her, sayingH0559, DavidH1732 sentH7971 us unto thee, to takeH3947 thee to him to wifeH0802. 41And she aroseH6965, and bowedH7812 herself on her faceH0639 to the earthH0776, and saidH0559, Behold, let thine handmaidH0519 be a servantH8198 to washH7364 the feetH7272 of the servantsH5650 of my lordH0113. 42And AbigailH0026 hastedH4116, and aroseH6965, and rodeH7392 upon an assH2543, with fiveH2568 damselsH5291 of hers that wentH1980 afterH7272 her; and she wentH3212 afterH0310 the messengersH4397 of DavidH1732, and became his wifeH0802. 43 DavidH1732 also tookH3947 AhinoamH0293 of JezreelH3157; and they were also bothH8147 of them his wivesH0802.

44But SaulH7586 had givenH5414 MichalH4324 his daughterH1323, DavidsH1732 wifeH0802, to PhaltiH6406 the sonH1121 of LaishH3919, which was of GallimH1554.

1 Samuel: Chapter 26

1And the ZiphitesH2130 cameH0935 unto SaulH7586 to GibeahH1390, sayingH0559, Doth not DavidH1732 hideH5641 himself in the hillH1389 of HachilahH2444, which is beforeH6440 JeshimonH3452? 2Then SaulH7586 aroseH6965, and went downH3381 to the wildernessH4057 of ZiphH2128, having threeH7969 thousandH0505 chosenH0977 menH0376 of IsraelH3478 with him, to seekH1245 DavidH1732 in the wildernessH4057 of ZiphH2128. 3And SaulH7586 pitchedH2583 in the hillH1389 of HachilahH2444, which is beforeH6440 JeshimonH3452, by the wayH1870. But DavidH1732 abodeH3427 in the wildernessH4057, and he sawH7200 that SaulH7586 cameH0935 afterH0310 him into the wildernessH4057. 4 DavidH1732 therefore sent outH7971 spiesH7270, and understoodH3045 that SaulH7586 was comeH0935 in very deedH3559.

5And DavidH1732 aroseH6965, and cameH0935 to the placeH4725 where SaulH7586 had pitchedH2583: and DavidH1732 beheldH7200 the placeH4725 where SaulH7586 layH7901, and AbnerH0074 the sonH1121 of NerH5369, the captainH8269 of his hostH6635: and SaulH7586 layH7901 in the trenchH4570, and the peopleH5971 pitchedH2583 round aboutH5439 him.

6Then answeredH6030 DavidH1732 and saidH0559 to AhimelechH0288 the HittiteH2850, and to AbishaiH0052 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870, brotherH0251 to JoabH3097, sayingH0559, Who will go downH3381 with me to SaulH7586 to the campH4264? And AbishaiH0052 saidH0559, I will go downH3381 with thee. 7So DavidH1732 and AbishaiH0052 cameH0935 to the peopleH5971 by nightH3915: and, behold, SaulH7586 layH7901 sleepingH3463 within the trenchH4570, and his spearH2595 stuckH4600 in the groundH0776 at his bolsterH4763: but AbnerH0074 and the peopleH5971 layH7901 round aboutH5439 him. 8Then saidH0559 AbishaiH0052 to DavidH1732, GodH0430 hath deliveredH5462 thine enemyH0341 into thine handH3027 this dayH3117: now therefore let me smiteH5221 him, I pray thee, with the spearH2595 even to the earthH0776 at onceH6471, and I will not smite him the second timeH8138. 9And DavidH1732 saidH0559 to AbishaiH0052, DestroyH7843 him not: for who can stretch forthH7971 his handH3027 against the LORDsH3068 anointedH4899, and be guiltlessH5352? 10 DavidH1732 saidH0559 furthermore, As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, the LORDH3068 shall smiteH5062 him; or his dayH3117 shall comeH0935 to dieH4191; or he shall descendH3381 into battleH4421, and perishH5595. 11The LORDH3068 forbidH2486 that I should stretch forthH7971 mine handH3027 against the LORDsH3068 anointedH4899: but, I pray thee, takeH3947 thou now the spearH2595 that is at his bolsterH4763, and the cruseH6835 of waterH4325, and let us goH3212. 12So DavidH1732 tookH3947 the spearH2595 and the cruseH6835 of waterH4325 from SaulsH7586 bolsterH7226; and they gat them awayH3212, and no man sawH7200 it , nor knewH3045 it , neither awakedH6974: for they were all asleepH3463; because a deep sleepH8639 from the LORDH3068 was fallenH5307 upon them.

13Then DavidH1732 went overH5674 to the other sideH5676, and stoodH5975 on the topH7218 of an hillH2022 afar offH7350; a greatH7227 spaceH4725 being between them: 14And DavidH1732 criedH7121 to the peopleH5971, and to AbnerH0074 the sonH1121 of NerH5369, sayingH0559, AnswerestH6030 thou not, AbnerH0074? Then AbnerH0074 answeredH6030 and saidH0559, Who art thou that criestH7121 to the kingH4428? 15And DavidH1732 saidH0559 to AbnerH0074, Art not thou a valiant manH0376? and who is like to thee in IsraelH3478? wherefore then hast thou not keptH8104 thy lordH0113 the kingH4428? for there cameH0935 oneH0259 of the peopleH5971 in to destroyH7843 the kingH4428 thy lordH0113. 16This thingH1697 is not goodH2896 that thou hast doneH6213. As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, ye are worthyH1121 to dieH4194, because ye have not keptH8104 your masterH0113, the LORDsH3068 anointedH4899. And now seeH7200 where the kingsH4428 spearH2595 is , and the cruseH6835 of waterH4325 that was at his bolsterH4763. 17And SaulH7586 knewH5234 DavidsH1732 voiceH6963, and saidH0559, Is this thy voiceH6963, my sonH1121 DavidH1732? And DavidH1732 saidH0559, It is my voiceH6963, my lordH0113, O kingH4428. 18And he saidH0559, Wherefore doth my lordH0113 thus pursueH7291 afterH0310 his servantH5650? for what have I doneH6213? or what evilH7451 is in mine handH3027? 19Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lordH0113 the kingH4428 hearH8085 the wordsH1697 of his servantH5650. If the LORDH3068 have stirred thee upH5496 against me, let him acceptH7306 an offeringH4503: but if they be the childrenH1121 of menH0120, cursedH0779 be they beforeH6440 the LORDH3068; for they have drivenH1644 me out this dayH3117 from abidingH5596 in the inheritanceH5159 of the LORDH3068, sayingH0559, GoH3212, serveH5647 otherH0312 godsH0430. 20Now therefore, let not my bloodH1818 fallH5307 to the earthH0776 before the faceH6440 of the LORDH3068: for the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 is come outH3318 to seekH1245 aH0259 fleaH6550, as when one doth huntH7291 a partridgeH7124 in the mountainsH2022.

21Then saidH0559 SaulH7586, I have sinnedH2398: returnH7725, my sonH1121 DavidH1732: for I will no more do thee harmH7489, because my soulH5315 was preciousH3365 in thine eyesH5869 this dayH3117: behold, I have played the foolH5528, and have erredH7686 exceedinglyH7235. 22And DavidH1732 answeredH6030 and saidH0559, Behold the kingsH4428 spearH2595! and let oneH0259 of the young menH5288 come overH5674 and fetchH3947 it. 23The LORDH3068 renderH7725 to every manH0376 his righteousnessH6666 and his faithfulnessH0530: for the LORDH3068 deliveredH5414 thee into my handH3027 to dayH3117, but I wouldH0014 not stretch forthH7971 mine handH3027 against the LORDsH3068 anointedH4899. 24And, behold, as thy lifeH5315 was much set byH1431 this dayH3117 in mine eyesH5869, so let my lifeH5315 be much set byH1431 in the eyesH5869 of the LORDH3068, and let him deliverH5337 me out of all tribulationH6869. 25Then SaulH7586 saidH0559 to DavidH1732, BlessedH1288 be thou, my sonH1121 DavidH1732: thou shalt both doH6213 greatH6213 things , and also shalt stillH3201 prevailH3201. So DavidH1732 wentH3212 on his wayH1870, and SaulH7586 returnedH7725 to his placeH4725.

1 Samuel: Chapter 27

1And DavidH1732 saidH0559 in his heartH3820, I shall now perishH5595 oneH0259 dayH3117 by the handH3027 of SaulH7586: there is nothing betterH2896 for me than thatH3588 I should speedilyH4422 escapeH4422 into the landH0776 of the PhilistinesH6430; and SaulH7586 shall despairH2976 of me, to seekH1245 me any more in any coastH1366 of IsraelH3478: so shall I escapeH4422 out of his handH3027. 2And DavidH1732 aroseH6965, and he passed overH5674 with the sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH0376 that were with him unto AchishH0397, the sonH1121 of MaochH4582, kingH4428 of GathH1661. 3And DavidH1732 dweltH3427 with AchishH0397 at GathH1661, he and his menH0582, every manH0376 with his householdH1004, even DavidH1732 with his twoH8147 wivesH0802, AhinoamH0293 the JezreelitessH3159, and AbigailH0026 the CarmelitessH3762, NabalsH5037 wifeH0802. 4And it was toldH5046 SaulH7586 that DavidH1732 was fledH1272 to GathH1661: and he soughtH1245 no more againH3254 for him.

5And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto AchishH0397, If I have now foundH4672 graceH2580 in thine eyesH5869, let them giveH5414 me a placeH4725 in someH0259 townH5892 in the countryH7704, that I may dwellH3427 there: for why should thy servantH5650 dwellH3427 in the royalH4467 cityH5892 with thee? 6Then AchishH0397 gaveH5414 him ZiklagH6860 that dayH3117: wherefore ZiklagH6860 pertaineth unto the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 unto this dayH3117. 7And the timeH4557 that DavidH1732 dweltH3427 in the countryH7704 of the PhilistinesH6430 was a full yearH3117 and fourH0702 monthsH2320.

8And DavidH1732 and his menH0582 went upH5927, and invadedH6584 the GeshuritesH1651, and the GezritesH1511, and the AmalekitesH6003: for thoseH2007 nations were of oldH5769 the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH0776, as thou goestH0935 to ShurH7793, even unto the landH0776 of EgyptH4714. 9And DavidH1732 smoteH5221 the landH0776, and left neither manH0376 nor womanH0802 aliveH2421, and took awayH3947 the sheepH6629, and the oxenH1241, and the assesH2543, and the camelsH1581, and the apparelH0899, and returnedH7725, and cameH0935 to AchishH0397. 10And AchishH0397 saidH0559, WhitherH0408 have ye made a roadH6584 to dayH3117? And DavidH1732 saidH0559, Against the southH5045 of JudahH3063, and against the southH5045 of the JerahmeelitesH3397, and against the southH5045 of the KenitesH7017. 11And DavidH1732 savedH2421 neither manH0376 nor womanH0802 aliveH2421, to bringH0935 tidings to GathH1661, sayingH0559, Lest they should tellH5046 on us, sayingH0559, So didH6213 DavidH1732, and so will be his mannerH4941 all the whileH3117 he dwellethH3427 in the countryH7704 of the PhilistinesH6430. 12And AchishH0397 believedH0539 DavidH1732, sayingH0559, He hath made his peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 utterlyH0887 to abhorH0887 him; therefore he shall be my servantH5650 for everH5769.

1 Samuel: Chapter 28

1And it came to pass in those daysH3117, that the PhilistinesH6430 gatheredH6908 their armiesH4264 togetherH6908 for warfareH6635, to fightH3898 with IsraelH3478. And AchishH0397 saidH0559 unto DavidH1732, KnowH3045 thou assuredlyH3045, that thou shalt go outH3318 with me to battleH4264, thou and thy menH0582. 2And DavidH1732 saidH0559 to AchishH0397, SurelyH3651 thou shalt knowH3045 what thy servantH5650 can doH6213. And AchishH0397 saidH0559 to DavidH1732, Therefore will I makeH7760 thee keeperH8104 of mine headH7218 for everH3117.

3Now SamuelH8050 was deadH4191, and all IsraelH3478 had lamentedH5594 him, and buriedH6912 him in RamahH7414, even in his own cityH5892. And SaulH7586 had put awayH5493 those that had familiar spiritsH0178, and the wizardsH3049, out of the landH0776. 4And the PhilistinesH6430 gathered themselves togetherH6908, and cameH0935 and pitchedH2583 in ShunemH7766: and SaulH7586 gatheredH6908 all IsraelH3478 togetherH6908, and they pitchedH2583 in GilboaH1533. 5And when SaulH7586 sawH7200 the hostH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430, he was afraidH3372, and his heartH3820 greatlyH3966 trembledH2729. 6And when SaulH7586 enquiredH7592 of the LORDH3068, the LORDH3068 answeredH6030 him not, neither by dreamsH2472, nor by UrimH0224, nor by prophetsH5030.

7Then saidH0559 SaulH7586 unto his servantsH5650, SeekH1245 me a womanH0802 that hathH1172 a familiar spiritH0178, that I may goH3212 to her, and enquireH1875 of her. And his servantsH5650 saidH0559 to him, Behold, there is a womanH0802 that hathH1172 a familiar spiritH0178 at EndorH5874. 8And SaulH7586 disguisedH2664 himself, and put onH3847 otherH0312 raimentH0899, and he wentH3212, and twoH8147 menH0582 with him, and they cameH0935 to the womanH0802 by nightH3915: and he saidH0559, I pray thee, divineH7080 unto me by the familiar spiritH0178, and bring me him upH5927, whom I shall nameH0559 unto thee. 9And the womanH0802 saidH0559 unto him, Behold, thou knowestH3045 what SaulH7586 hath doneH6213, how he hath cut offH3772 those that have familiar spiritsH0178, and the wizardsH3049, out of the landH0776: wherefore then layest thou a snareH5367 for my lifeH5315, to cause me to dieH4191? 10And SaulH7586 swareH7650 to her by the LORDH3068, sayingH0559, As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, there shallH0518 no punishmentH5771 happenH7136 to thee for this thingH1697. 11Then saidH0559 the womanH0802, Whom shall I bring upH5927 unto thee? And he saidH0559, Bring me upH5927 SamuelH8050. 12And when the womanH0802 sawH7200 SamuelH8050, she criedH2199 with a loudH1419 voiceH6963: and the womanH0802 spakeH0559 to SaulH7586, sayingH0559, Why hast thou deceivedH7411 me? for thou art SaulH7586. 13And the kingH4428 saidH0559 unto her, Be not afraidH3372: for what sawestH7200 thou? And the womanH0802 saidH0559 unto SaulH7586, I sawH7200 godsH0430 ascendingH5927 out of the earthH0776. 14And he saidH0559 unto her, What formH8389 is he of? And she saidH0559, An oldH2205 manH0376 cometh upH5927; and he is coveredH5844 with a mantleH4598. And SaulH7586 perceivedH3045 that it was SamuelH8050, and he stoopedH6915 with his faceH0639 to the groundH0776, and bowedH7812 himself.

15And SamuelH8050 saidH0559 to SaulH7586, Why hast thou disquietedH7264 me, to bring me upH5927? And SaulH7586 answeredH0559, I am soreH3966 distressedH6887; for the PhilistinesH6430 make warH3898 against me, and GodH0430 is departedH5493 from me, and answerethH6030 me no more, neither byH3027 prophetsH5030, nor by dreamsH2472: therefore I have calledH7121 thee, that thou mayest make knownH3045 unto me what I shall doH6213. 16Then saidH0559 SamuelH8050, Wherefore then dost thou askH7592 of me, seeing the LORDH3068 is departedH5493 from thee, and is become thine enemyH6145? 17And the LORDH3068 hath doneH6213 to him, as he spakeH1696 by meH3027: for the LORDH3068 hath rentH7167 the kingdomH4467 out of thine handH3027, and givenH5414 it to thy neighbourH7453, even to DavidH1732: 18BecauseH0834 thou obeyedstH8085 not the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068, nor executedstH6213 his fierceH2740 wrathH0639 upon AmalekH6002, therefore hath the LORDH3068 doneH6213 this thingH1697 unto thee this dayH3117. 19Moreover the LORDH3068 will also deliverH5414 IsraelH3478 with thee into the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430: and to morrowH4279 shalt thou and thy sonsH1121 be with me: the LORDH3068 also shall deliverH5414 the hostH4264 of IsraelH3478 into the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430.

20Then SaulH7586 fellH5307 straightwayH4116 allH4393 alongH6967 on the earthH0776, and was soreH3966 afraidH3372, because of the wordsH1697 of SamuelH8050: and there was no strengthH3581 in him; for he had eatenH0398 no breadH3899 all the dayH3117, nor all the nightH3915.

21And the womanH0802 cameH0935 unto SaulH7586, and sawH7200 that he was soreH3966 troubledH0926, and saidH0559 unto him, Behold, thine handmaidH8198 hath obeyedH8085 thy voiceH6963, and I have putH7760 my lifeH5315 in my handH3709, and have hearkenedH8085 unto thy wordsH1697 which thou spakestH1696 unto me. 22Now therefore, I pray thee, hearkenH8085 thou also unto the voiceH6963 of thine handmaidH8198, and let me setH7760 a morselH6595 of breadH3899 beforeH6440 thee; and eatH0398, that thou mayest have strengthH3581, when thou goestH3212 on thy wayH1870. 23But he refusedH3985, and saidH0559, I will not eatH0398. But his servantsH5650, together with the womanH0802, compelledH6555 him; and he hearkenedH8085 unto their voiceH6963. So he aroseH6965 from the earthH0776, and satH3427 upon the bedH4296. 24And the womanH0802 had a fatH4770 calfH5695 in the houseH1004; and she hastedH4116, and killedH2076 it, and tookH3947 flourH7058, and kneadedH3888 it , and did bakeH0644 unleavened breadH4682 thereof: 25And she broughtH5066 it beforeH6440 SaulH7586, and beforeH6440 his servantsH5650; and they did eatH0398. Then they rose upH6965, and went awayH3212 that nightH3915.

1 Samuel: Chapter 29

1Now the PhilistinesH6430 gathered togetherH6908 all their armiesH4264 to AphekH0663: and the IsraelitesH3478 pitchedH2583 by a fountainH5869 which is in JezreelH3157. 2And the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430 passed onH5674 by hundredsH3967, and by thousandsH0505: but DavidH1732 and his menH0582 passed onH5674 in the rerewardH0314 with AchishH0397. 3Then saidH0559 the princesH8269 of the PhilistinesH6430, What do these HebrewsH5680 here ? And AchishH0397 saidH0559 unto the princesH8269 of the PhilistinesH6430, Is not this DavidH1732, the servantH5650 of SaulH7586 the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, which hath been with me these daysH3117, or these yearsH8141, and I have foundH4672 no faultH3972 in him sinceH3117 he fellH5307 unto me unto this dayH3117? 4And the princesH8269 of the PhilistinesH6430 were wrothH7107 with him; and the princesH8269 of the PhilistinesH6430 saidH0559 unto him, MakeH7725 this fellowH0376 returnH7725, that he may go againH7725 to his placeH4725 which thou hast appointedH6485 him, and let him not go downH3381 with us to battleH4421, lest in the battleH4421 he be an adversaryH7854 to us: for wherewith should he reconcileH7521 himself unto his masterH0113? should it not be with the headsH7218 of these menH0582? 5 Is not this DavidH1732, of whom they sangH6030 one to another in dancesH4246, sayingH0559, SaulH7586 slewH5221 his thousandsH0505, and DavidH1732 his ten thousandsH7233?

6Then AchishH0397 calledH7121 DavidH1732, and saidH0559 unto him, Surely, as the LORDH3068 livethH2416, thou hast been uprightH3477, and thy going outH3318 and thy coming inH0935 with me in the hostH4264 is goodH2896 in my sightH5869: for I have not foundH4672 evilH7451 in thee since the dayH3117 of thy comingH0935 unto me unto this dayH3117: nevertheless the lordsH5633 favourH2896 thee notH5869. 7Wherefore now returnH7725, and goH3212 in peaceH7965, that thou displeaseH6213 not the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430.

8And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto AchishH0397, But what have I doneH6213? and what hast thou foundH4672 in thy servantH5650 so long asH3117 I have been with theeH6440 unto this dayH3117, that I may not goH0935 fightH3898 against the enemiesH0341 of my lordH0113 the kingH4428? 9And AchishH0397 answeredH6030 and saidH0559 to DavidH1732, I knowH3045 that thou art goodH2896 in my sightH5869, as an angelH4397 of GodH0430: notwithstanding the princesH8269 of the PhilistinesH6430 have saidH0559, He shall not go upH5927 with us to the battleH4421. 10Wherefore now rise up earlyH7925 in the morningH1242 with thy mastersH0113 servantsH5650 that are comeH0935 with thee: and as soon as ye be up earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and have lightH0215, departH3212. 11So DavidH1732 and his menH0582 rose up earlyH7925 to departH3212 in the morningH1242, to returnH7725 into the landH0776 of the PhilistinesH6430. And the PhilistinesH6430 went upH5927 to JezreelH3157.

1 Samuel: Chapter 30

1And it came to pass, when DavidH1732 and his menH0582 were comeH0935 to ZiklagH6860 on the thirdH7992 dayH3117, that the AmalekitesH6003 had invadedH6584 the southH5045, and ZiklagH6860, and smittenH5221 ZiklagH6860, and burnedH8313 it with fireH0784; 2And had taken the womenH0802 captivesH7617, that were therein: they slewH4191 not anyH0376, either greatH1419 or smallH6996, but carried them awayH5090, and wentH3212 on their wayH1870.

3So DavidH1732 and his menH0582 cameH0935 to the cityH5892, and, behold, it was burnedH8313 with fireH0784; and their wivesH0802, and their sonsH1121, and their daughtersH1323, were taken captivesH7617. 4Then DavidH1732 and the peopleH5971 that were with him lifted upH5375 their voiceH6963 and weptH1058, until they had no more powerH3581 to weepH1058. 5And DavidsH1732 twoH8147 wivesH0802 were taken captivesH7617, AhinoamH0293 the JezreelitessH3159, and AbigailH0026 the wifeH0802 of NabalH5037 the CarmeliteH3761. 6And DavidH1732 was greatlyH3966 distressedH3334; for the peopleH5971 spakeH0559 of stoningH5619 him, because the soulH5315 of all the peopleH5971 was grievedH4843, every manH0376 for his sonsH1121 and for his daughtersH1323: but DavidH1732 encouragedH2388 himself in the LORDH3068 his GodH0430.

7And DavidH1732 saidH0559 to AbiatharH0054 the priestH3548, AhimelechsH0288 sonH1121, I pray thee, bring me hitherH5066 the ephodH0646. And AbiatharH0054 broughtH5066 thither the ephodH0646 to DavidH1732. 8And DavidH1732 enquiredH7592 at the LORDH3068, sayingH0559, Shall I pursueH7291 afterH0310 this troopH1416? shall I overtakeH5381 them? And he answeredH0559 him, PursueH7291: for thou shalt surelyH5381 overtakeH5381 them , and without failH5337 recoverH5337 all . 9So DavidH1732 wentH3212, he and the sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH0376 that were with him, and cameH0935 to the brookH5158 BesorH1308, where those that were left behindH3498 stayedH5975. 10But DavidH1732 pursuedH7291, he and fourH0702 hundredH3967 menH0376: for two hundredH3967 abode behindH5975, which were so faintH6296 that they could not go overH5674 the brookH5158 BesorH1308.

11And they foundH4672 an EgyptianH0376 in the fieldH7704, and broughtH3947 him to DavidH1732, and gaveH5414 him breadH3899, and he did eatH0398; and they made him drinkH8248 waterH4325; 12And they gaveH5414 him a pieceH6400 of a cakeH1690 of figs, and twoH8147 clusters of raisinsH6778: and when he had eatenH0398, his spiritH7307 came againH7725 to him: for he had eatenH0398 no breadH3899, nor drunkH8354 any waterH4325, threeH7969 daysH3117 and threeH7969 nightsH3915. 13And DavidH1732 saidH0559 unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he saidH0559, I am a young manH5288 of EgyptH4713, servantH5650 to an AmalekiteH0376; and my masterH0113 leftH5800 me, because threeH7969 daysH3117 agone I fell sickH2470. 14We made an invasionH6584 upon the southH5045 of the CherethitesH3774, and upon the coast which belongeth to JudahH3063, and upon the southH5045 of CalebH3612; and we burnedH8313 ZiklagH6860 with fireH0784. 15And DavidH1732 saidH0559 to him, Canst thou bring me downH3381 to this companyH1416? And he saidH0559, SwearH7650 unto me by GodH0430, that thou wilt neither killH4191 me, norH0518 deliverH5462 me into the handsH3027 of my masterH0113, and I will bring thee downH3381 to this companyH1416.

16And when he had brought him downH3381, behold, they were spread abroadH5203 upon allH6440 the earthH0776, eatingH0398 and drinkingH8354, and dancingH2287, because of all the greatH1419 spoilH7998 that they had takenH3947 out of the landH0776 of the PhilistinesH6430, and out of the landH0776 of JudahH3063. 17And DavidH1732 smoteH5221 them from the twilightH5399 even unto the eveningH6153 of the next dayH4283: and there escapedH4422 not a manH0376 of them, save fourH0702 hundredH3967 youngH5288 menH0376, which rodeH7392 upon camelsH1581, and fledH5127. 18And DavidH1732 recoveredH5337 all that the AmalekitesH6002 had carried awayH3947: and DavidH1732 rescuedH5337 his twoH8147 wivesH0802. 19And there was nothing lackingH5737 to them, neitherH4480 smallH6996 nor greatH1419, neither sonsH1121 nor daughtersH1323, neither spoilH7998, nor any thing that they had takenH3947 to them: DavidH1732 recoveredH7725 all. 20And DavidH1732 tookH3947 all the flocksH6629 and the herdsH1241, which they draveH5090 beforeH6440 thoseH1931 other cattleH4735, and saidH0559, This is DavidsH1732 spoilH7998.

21And DavidH1732 cameH0935 to the two hundredH3967 menH0582, which were so faintH6296 that they could not followH3212 DavidH1732, whom they had made also to abideH3427 at the brookH5158 BesorH1308: and they went forthH3318 to meetH7125 DavidH1732, and to meetH7125 the peopleH5971 that were with him: and when DavidH1732 came nearH5066 to the peopleH5971, he salutedH7592 them. 22Then answeredH6030 all the wickedH7451 menH0376 and men of BelialH1100, of thoseH0582 that wentH1980 with DavidH1732, and saidH0559, Because they wentH1980 not with us, we will not giveH5414 them ought of the spoilH7998 that we have recoveredH5337, save to every manH0376 his wifeH0802 and his childrenH1121, that they may lead them awayH5090, and departH3212. 23Then saidH0559 DavidH1732, Ye shall not do soH6213, my brethrenH0251, with that which the LORDH3068 hath givenH5414 us, who hath preservedH8104 us, and deliveredH5414 the companyH1416 that cameH0935 against us into our handH3027. 24For who will hearkenH8085 unto you in this matterH1697? but as his partH2506 is that goeth downH3381 to the battleH4421, so shall his partH2506 be that tarriethH3427 by the stuffH3627: they shall partH2505 alikeH3162. 25And it was so from that dayH3117 forwardH4605, that he madeH7760 it a statuteH2706 and an ordinanceH4941 for IsraelH3478 unto this dayH3117.

26And when DavidH1732 cameH0935 to ZiklagH6860, he sentH7971 of the spoilH7998 unto the eldersH2205 of JudahH3063, even to his friendsH7453, sayingH0559, Behold a presentH1293 for you of the spoilH7998 of the enemiesH0341 of the LORDH3068; 27To themH0834 which were in Beth-elH1008, and to them which were in southH5045 RamothH7418, and to them which were in JattirH3492, 28And to them which were in AroerH6177, and to them which were in SiphmothH8224, and to them which were in EshtemoaH0851, 29And to them which were in RachalH7403, and to them which were in the citiesH5892 of the JerahmeelitesH3397, and to them which were in the citiesH5892 of the KenitesH7017, 30And to them which were in HormahH2767, and to them which were in Chor-ashanH3565, and to them which were in AthachH6269, 31And to them which were in HebronH2275, and to all the placesH4725 where DavidH1732 himself and his menH0582 were wont to hauntH1980.

1 Samuel: Chapter 31

1Now the PhilistinesH6430 foughtH3898 against IsraelH3478: and the menH0582 of IsraelH3478 fledH5127 from beforeH6440 the PhilistinesH6430, and fell downH5307 slainH2491 in mountH2022 GilboaH1533. 2And the PhilistinesH6430 followed hardH1692 upon SaulH7586 and upon his sonsH1121; and the PhilistinesH6430 slewH5221 JonathanH3083, and AbinadabH0041, and Malchi-shuaH4444, SaulsH7586 sonsH1121. 3And the battleH4421 went soreH3513 against SaulH7586, and the archersH3384 hitH4672 him; and he was soreH3966 woundedH2342 of the archersH3384. 4Then saidH0559 SaulH7586 unto his armourbearerH5375, DrawH8025 thy swordH2719, and thrust me throughH1856 therewith; lest these uncircumcisedH6189 comeH0935 and thrust me throughH1856, and abuseH5953 me. But his armourbearerH5375 wouldH0014 not; for he was soreH3966 afraidH3372. Therefore SaulH7586 tookH3947 a swordH2719, and fellH5307 upon it. 5And when his armourbearerH5375 sawH7200 that SaulH7586 was deadH4191, he fellH5307 likewise upon his swordH2719, and diedH4191 with him. 6So SaulH7586 diedH4191, and his threeH7969 sonsH1121, and his armourbearerH5375, and all his menH0582, that same dayH3117 togetherH3162.

7And when the menH0582 of IsraelH3478 that were on the other sideH5676 of the valleyH6010, and they that were on the other sideH5676 JordanH3383, sawH7200 that the menH0582 of IsraelH3478 fledH5127, and that SaulH7586 and his sonsH1121 were deadH4191, they forsookH5800 the citiesH5892, and fledH5127; and the PhilistinesH6430 cameH0935 and dweltH3427 in them.

8And it came to pass on the morrowH4283, when the PhilistinesH6430 cameH0935 to stripH6584 the slainH2491, that they foundH4672 SaulH7586 and his threeH7969 sonsH1121 fallenH5307 in mountH2022 GilboaH1533. 9And they cut offH3772 his headH7218, and stripped offH6584 his armourH3627, and sentH7971 into the landH0776 of the PhilistinesH6430 round aboutH5439, to publishH1319 it in the houseH1004 of their idolsH6091, and among the peopleH5971. 10And they putH7760 his armourH3627 in the houseH1004 of AshtarothH6252: and they fastenedH8628 his bodyH1472 to the wallH2346 of Beth-shanH1052.

11And when the inhabitantsH3427 of Jabesh-gileadH3003 heardH8085 of that which the PhilistinesH6430 had doneH6213 to SaulH7586; 12All the valiantH2428 menH0376 aroseH6965, and wentH3212 all nightH3915, and tookH3947 the bodyH1472 of SaulH7586 and the bodiesH1472 of his sonsH1121 from the wallH2346 of Beth-shanH1052, and cameH0935 to JabeshH3003, and burntH8313 them there. 13And they tookH3947 their bonesH6106, and buriedH6912 them under a treeH0815 at JabeshH3003, and fastedH6684 sevenH7651 daysH3117.
