Ruth: Chapter 1

1Now it came to pass in the daysH3117 when the judgesH8199 ruledH8199, that there was a famineH7458 in the landH0776. And a certain manH0376 of Beth-lehem-judahH1035 wentH3212 to sojournH1481 in the countryH7704 of MoabH4124, he, and his wifeH0802, and his twoH8147 sonsH1121. 2And the nameH8034 of the manH0376 was ElimelechH0458, and the nameH8034 of his wifeH0802 NaomiH5281, and the nameH8034 of his twoH8147 sonsH1121 MahlonH4248 and ChilionH3630, EphrathitesH0673 of Beth-lehem-judahH1035. And they cameH0935 into the countryH7704 of MoabH4124, and continued there. 3And ElimelechH0458 NaomisH5281 husbandH0376 diedH4191; and she was leftH7604, and her twoH8147 sonsH1121. 4And they tookH5375 them wivesH0802 of the womenH0802 of MoabH4125; the nameH8034 of the oneH0259 was OrpahH6204, and the nameH8034 of the otherH8145 RuthH7327: and they dwelledH3427 there about tenH6235 yearsH8141. 5And MahlonH4248 and ChilionH3630 diedH4191 also bothH8147 of them; and the womanH0802 was leftH7604 of her twoH8147 sonsH3206 and her husbandH0376.

6Then she aroseH6965 with her daughters in lawH3618, that she might returnH7725 from the countryH7704 of MoabH4124: for she had heardH8085 in the countryH7704 of MoabH4124 how that the LORDH3068 had visitedH6485 his peopleH5971 in givingH5414 them breadH3899. 7Wherefore she went forthH3318 out of the placeH4725 where she was, and her twoH8147 daughters in lawH3618 with her; and they wentH3212 on the wayH1870 to returnH7725 unto the landH0776 of JudahH3063. 8And NaomiH5281 saidH0559 unto her twoH8147 daughters in lawH3618, GoH3212, returnH7725 eachH0802 to her mothersH0517 houseH1004: the LORDH3068 dealH6213 kindlyH2617 with you, as ye have dealtH6213 with the deadH4191, and with me. 9The LORDH3068 grantH5414 you that ye may findH4672 restH4496, eachH0802 of you in the houseH1004 of her husbandH0376. Then she kissedH5401 them; and they lifted upH5375 their voiceH6963, and weptH1058. 10And they saidH0559 unto her, Surely we will returnH7725 with thee unto thy peopleH5971. 11And NaomiH5281 saidH0559, Turn againH7725, my daughtersH1323: why will ye goH3212 with me? are there yet any more sonsH1121 in my wombH4578, that they may be your husbandsH0582? 12Turn againH7725, my daughtersH1323, goH3212 your way; for I am too oldH2204 to have an husbandH0376. If I should sayH0559, I haveH3426 hopeH8615, if I should have an husbandH0376 also to nightH3915, and should also bearH3205 sonsH1121; 13Would ye tarryH7663 for themH3860 till they were grownH1431? would ye stayH5702 for themH3860 from having husbandsH0376? nay, my daughtersH1323; for it grievethH4843 me muchH3966 for your sakes that the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 is gone outH3318 against me. 14And they lifted upH5375 their voiceH6963, and wept againH1058: and OrpahH6204 kissedH5401 her mother in lawH2545; but RuthH7327 claveH1692 unto her. 15And she saidH0559, Behold, thy sister in lawH2994 is gone backH7725 unto her peopleH5971, and unto her godsH0430: returnH7725 thou afterH0310 thy sister in lawH2994. 16And RuthH7327 saidH0559, IntreatH6293 me not to leaveH5800 thee, or to returnH7725 from following afterH0310 thee: for whither thou goestH3212, I will goH3212; and where thou lodgestH3885, I will lodgeH3885: thy peopleH5971 shall be my peopleH5971, and thy GodH0430 my GodH0430: 17Where thou diestH4191, will I dieH4191, and there will I be buriedH6912: the LORDH3068 doH6213 so to me, and moreH3254 also, if ought but deathH4194 partH6504 thee and me. 18When she sawH7200 that she was stedfastly mindedH0553 to goH3212 with her, then she leftH2308 speakingH1696 unto her.

19So they twoH8147 wentH3212 until they cameH0935 to Beth-lehemH1035. And it came to pass, when they were comeH0935 to Beth-lehemH1035, that all the cityH5892 was movedH1949 about them, and they saidH0559, Is this NaomiH5281? 20And she saidH0559 unto them, CallH7121 me not NaomiH5281, callH7121 me MaraH4755: for the AlmightyH7706 hath dealt veryH3966 bitterlyH4843 with me. 21I went outH1980 fullH4392, and the LORDH3068 hath brought me home againH7725 emptyH7387: why then callH7121 ye me NaomiH5281, seeing the LORDH3068 hath testifiedH6030 against me, and the AlmightyH7706 hath afflictedH7489 me? 22So NaomiH5281 returnedH7725, and RuthH7327 the MoabitessH4125, her daughter in lawH3618, with her, which returnedH7725 out of the countryH7704 of MoabH4124: and they cameH0935 to Beth-lehemH1035 in the beginningH8462 of barleyH8184 harvestH7105.

Ruth: Chapter 2

1And NaomiH5281 had a kinsmanH4129 of her husbandsH0376, a mightyH1368 manH0376 of wealthH2428, of the familyH4940 of ElimelechH0458; and his nameH8034 was BoazH1162. 2And RuthH7327 the MoabitessH4125 saidH0559 unto NaomiH5281, Let me now goH3212 to the fieldH7704, and gleanH3950 ears of cornH7641 afterH0310 him in whose sightH5869 I shall findH4672 graceH2580. And she saidH0559 unto her, GoH3212, my daughterH1323. 3And she wentH3212, and cameH0935, and gleanedH3950 in the fieldH7704 afterH0310 the reapersH7114: and her hapH4745 was to lightH7136 on a partH2513 of the fieldH7704 belonging unto BoazH1162, who was of the kindredH4940 of ElimelechH0458.

4And, behold, BoazH1162 cameH0935 from Beth-lehemH1035, and saidH0559 unto the reapersH7114, The LORDH3068 be with you. And they answeredH0559 him, The LORDH3068 blessH1288 thee. 5Then saidH0559 BoazH1162 unto his servantH5288 that was setH5324 over the reapersH7114, Whose damselH5291 is this? 6And the servantH5288 that was setH5324 over the reapersH7114 answeredH6030 and saidH0559, It is the MoabitishH4125 damselH5291 that came backH7725 with NaomiH5281 out of the countryH7704 of MoabH4124: 7And she saidH0559, I pray you, let me gleanH3950 and gatherH0622 afterH0310 the reapersH7114 among the sheavesH6016: so she cameH0935, and hath continuedH5975 evenH0227 from the morningH1242 until now, that she tarriedH3427 a littleH4592 in the houseH1004. 8Then saidH0559 BoazH1162 unto RuthH7327, HearestH8085 thou not, my daughterH1323? GoH3212 not to gleanH3950 in anotherH0312 fieldH7704, neither goH5674 from hence, but abideH1692 here fast by my maidensH5291: 9 Let thine eyesH5869 be on the fieldH7704 that they do reapH7114, and goH1980 thou afterH0310 them: have I not chargedH6680 the young menH5288 that they shall not touchH5060 thee? and when thou art athirstH6770, goH1980 unto the vesselsH3627, and drinkH8354 of that which the young menH5288 have drawnH7579. 10Then she fellH5307 on her faceH6440, and bowedH7812 herself to the groundH0776, and saidH0559 unto him, Why have I foundH4672 graceH2580 in thine eyesH5869, that thou shouldest take knowledgeH5234 of me, seeing I am a strangerH5237? 11And BoazH1162 answeredH6030 and saidH0559 unto her, It hath fullyH5046 been shewedH5046 me, all that thou hast doneH6213 unto thy mother in lawH2545 sinceH0310 the deathH4194 of thine husbandH0376: and how thou hast leftH5800 thy fatherH0001 and thy motherH0517, and the landH0776 of thy nativityH4138, and art comeH3212 unto a peopleH5971 which thou knewestH3045 not heretoforeH8543. 12The LORDH3068 recompenseH7999 thy workH6467, and a fullH8003 rewardH4909 be given thee of the LORDH3068 GodH0430 of IsraelH3478, under whose wingsH3671 thou art comeH0935 to trustH2620. 13Then she saidH0559, Let me findH4672 favourH2580 in thy sightH5869, my lordH0113; for that thou hast comfortedH5162 me, and for that thou hast spokenH1696 friendlyH3820 unto thine handmaidH8198, though I be not like unto oneH0259 of thine handmaidensH8198. 14And BoazH1162 saidH0559 unto her, At mealtimeH6256 comeH5066 thou hitherH1988, and eatH0398 of the breadH3899, and dipH2881 thy morselH6595 in the vinegarH2558. And she satH3427 besideH6654 the reapersH7114: and he reachedH6642 her parchedH7039 corn , and she did eatH0398, and was sufficedH7646, and leftH3498. 15And when she was risen upH6965 to gleanH3950, BoazH1162 commandedH6680 his young menH5288, sayingH0559, Let her gleanH3950 even among the sheavesH6016, and reproachH3637 her not: 16And let fallH7997 also some of the handfulsH6653 of purposeH7997 for her, and leaveH5800 them , that she may gleanH3950 them , and rebukeH1605 her not.

17So she gleanedH3950 in the fieldH7704 until evenH6153, and beat outH2251 that she had gleanedH3950: and it was about an ephahH0374 of barleyH8184.

18And she took it upH5375, and wentH0935 into the cityH5892: and her mother in lawH2545 sawH7200 what she had gleanedH3950: and she brought forthH3318, and gaveH5414 to her that she had reservedH3498 after she was sufficedH7648. 19And her mother in lawH2545 saidH0559 unto her, Where hast thou gleanedH3950 to dayH3117? and whereH0375 wroughtestH6213 thou? blessedH1288 be he that did take knowledgeH5234 of thee. And she shewedH5046 her mother in lawH2545 with whom she had wroughtH6213, and saidH0559, The mansH0376 nameH8034 with whom I wroughtH6213 to dayH3117 is BoazH1162. 20And NaomiH5281 saidH0559 unto her daughter in lawH3618, BlessedH1288 be he of the LORDH3068, who hath not left offH5800 his kindnessH2617 to the livingH2416 and to the deadH4191. And NaomiH5281 saidH0559 unto her, The manH0376 is near of kinH7138 unto us, one of our next kinsmenH1350. 21And RuthH7327 the MoabitessH4125 saidH0559, He saidH0559 unto me also, Thou shalt keep fastH1692 by my young menH5288, until they have endedH3615 all my harvestH7105. 22And NaomiH5281 saidH0559 unto RuthH7327 her daughter in lawH3618, It is goodH2896, my daughterH1323, that thou go outH3318 with his maidensH5291, that they meetH6293 thee not in any otherH0312 fieldH7704. 23So she kept fastH1692 by the maidensH5291 of BoazH1162 to gleanH3950 unto the endH3615 of barleyH8184 harvestH7105 and of wheatH2406 harvestH7105; and dweltH3427 with her mother in lawH2545.

Ruth: Chapter 3

1Then NaomiH5281 her mother in lawH2545 saidH0559 unto her, My daughterH1323, shall I not seekH1245 restH4494 for thee, that it may be wellH3190 with thee? 2And now is not BoazH1162 of our kindredH4130, with whose maidensH5291 thou wast? Behold, he winnowethH2219 barleyH8184 to nightH3915 in the threshingfloorH1637. 3WashH7364 thyself therefore, and anointH5480 thee, and putH7760 thy raimentH8071 upon thee, and get thee downH3381 to the floorH1637: but make not thyself knownH3045 unto the manH0376, until he shall have doneH3615 eatingH0398 and drinkingH8354. 4And it shall be, when he lieth downH7901, that thou shalt markH3045 the placeH4725 where he shall lieH7901, and thou shalt go inH0935, and uncoverH1540 his feetH4772, and lay thee downH7901; and he will tellH5046 thee what thou shalt doH6213. 5And she saidH0559 unto her, All that thou sayestH0559 unto me I will doH6213.

6And she went downH3381 unto the floorH1637, and didH6213 according to all that her mother in lawH2545 badeH6680 her. 7And when BoazH1162 had eatenH0398 and drunkH8354, and his heartH3820 was merryH3190, he wentH0935 to lie downH7901 at the endH7097 of the heap of cornH6194: and she cameH0935 softlyH3909, and uncoveredH1540 his feetH4772, and laid her downH7901.

8And it came to pass at midnightH2677, that the manH0376 was afraidH2729, and turnedH3943 himself: and, behold, a womanH0802 layH7901 at his feetH4772. 9And he saidH0559, Who art thou? And she answeredH0559, I am RuthH7327 thine handmaidH0519: spreadH6566 therefore thy skirtH3671 over thine handmaidH0519; for thou art a near kinsmanH1350. 10And he saidH0559, BlessedH1288 be thou of the LORDH3068, my daughterH1323: for thou hast shewedH3190 more kindnessH2617 in the latter endH0314 than at the beginningH7223, inasmuch as thou followedstH3212 notH1115 young menH0970, whether poorH1800 or richH6223. 11And now, my daughterH1323, fearH3372 not; I will doH6213 to thee all that thou requirestH0559: for all the cityH8179 of my peopleH5971 doth knowH3045 that thou art a virtuousH2428 womanH0802. 12And now it is trueH0551 that I am thy near kinsmanH1350: howbeit there isH3426 a kinsmanH1350 nearerH7138 than I. 13TarryH3885 this nightH3915, and it shall be in the morningH1242, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsmanH1350, wellH2896; let him do the kinsmans partH1350: but if he willH2654 not do the part of a kinsmanH1350 to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsmanH1350 to thee, as the LORDH3068 livethH2416: lie downH7901 until the morningH1242.

14And she layH7901 at his feetH4772 until the morningH1242: and she rose upH6965 beforeH2958 oneH0376 could knowH5234 anotherH7453. And he saidH0559, Let it not be knownH3045 that a womanH0802 cameH0935 into the floorH1637. 15Also he saidH0559, BringH3051 the vailH4304 that thou hast upon thee, and holdH0270 it. And when she heldH0270 it, he measuredH4058 sixH8337 measures of barleyH8184, and laidH7896 it on her: and she wentH0935 into the cityH5892. 16And when she cameH0935 to her mother in lawH2545, she saidH0559, Who art thou, my daughterH1323? And she toldH5046 her all that the manH0376 had doneH6213 to her. 17And she saidH0559, These sixH8337 measures of barleyH8184 gaveH5414 he me; for he saidH0559 to me, GoH0935 not emptyH7387 unto thy mother in lawH2545. 18Then saidH0559 she, Sit stillH3427, my daughterH1323, until thou knowH3045 how the matterH1697 will fallH5307: for the manH0376 will not be in restH8252, untilH0518 he have finishedH3615 the thingH1697 this dayH3117.

Ruth: Chapter 4

1Then wentH5927 BoazH1162 upH5927 to the gateH8179, and sat him downH3427 there: and, behold, the kinsmanH1350 of whom BoazH1162 spakeH1696 cameH5674 by; unto whom he saidH0559, HoH1945, suchH6423 a oneH0492! turn asideH5493, sit downH3427 here. And he turned asideH5493, and sat downH3427. 2And he tookH3947 tenH6235 menH0582 of the eldersH2205 of the cityH5892, and saidH0559, Sit ye downH3427 here. And they sat downH3427. 3And he saidH0559 unto the kinsmanH1350, NaomiH5281, that is come againH7725 out of the countryH7704 of MoabH4124, sellethH4376 a parcelH2513 of landH7704, which was our brotherH0251 ElimelechsH0458: 4And I thoughtH0559 to advertiseH1540 thee, sayingH0559, BuyH7069 it before the inhabitantsH3427, and before the eldersH2205 of my peopleH5971. If thou wilt redeemH1350 it , redeemH1350 it: but if thou wilt not redeemH1350 it, then tellH5046 me, that I may knowH3045: for there is none to redeemH1350 it besideH2108 thee; and I am afterH0310 thee. And he saidH0559, I will redeemH1350 it . 5Then saidH0559 BoazH1162, What dayH3117 thou buyestH7069 the fieldH7704 of the handH3027 of NaomiH5281, thou must buyH7069 it also of RuthH7327 the MoabitessH4125, the wifeH0802 of the deadH4191, to raise upH6965 the nameH8034 of the deadH4191 upon his inheritanceH5159.

6And the kinsmanH1350 saidH0559, I cannotH3201 redeemH1350 it for myself, lest I marH7843 mine own inheritanceH5159: redeemH1350 thou my rightH1353 to thyself; for I cannotH3201 redeemH1350 it . 7Now this was the manner in former timeH6440 in IsraelH3478 concerning redeemingH1353 and concerning changingH8545, for to confirmH6965 all thingsH1697; a manH0376 plucked offH8025 his shoeH5275, and gaveH5414 it to his neighbourH7453: and this was a testimonyH8584 in IsraelH3478. 8Therefore the kinsmanH1350 saidH0559 unto BoazH1162, BuyH7069 it for thee. So he drew offH8025 his shoeH5275.

9And BoazH1162 saidH0559 unto the eldersH2205, and unto all the peopleH5971, Ye are witnessesH5707 this dayH3117, that I have boughtH7069 all that was ElimelechsH0458, and all that was ChilionsH3630 and MahlonsH4248, of the handH3027 of NaomiH5281. 10Moreover RuthH7327 the MoabitessH4125, the wifeH0802 of MahlonH4248, have I purchasedH7069 to be my wifeH0802, to raise upH6965 the nameH8034 of the deadH4191 upon his inheritanceH5159, that the nameH8034 of the deadH4191 be not cut offH3772 from amongH5973 his brethrenH0251, and from the gateH8179 of his placeH4725: ye are witnessesH5707 this dayH3117. 11And all the peopleH5971 that were in the gateH8179, and the eldersH2205, saidH0559, We are witnessesH5707. The LORDH3068 makeH5414 the womanH0802 that is comeH0935 into thine houseH1004 like RachelH7354 and like LeahH3812, which twoH8147 did buildH1129 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478: and doH6213 thou worthilyH2428 in EphratahH0672, and be famousH7121 in Beth-lehemH1035: 12And let thy houseH1004 be like the houseH1004 of PharezH6557, whom TamarH8559 bareH3205 unto JudahH3063, of the seedH2233 which the LORDH3068 shall giveH5414 thee of this young womanH5291.

13So BoazH1162 tookH3947 RuthH7327, and she was his wifeH0802: and when he went inH0935 unto her, the LORDH3068 gaveH5414 her conceptionH2032, and she bareH3205 a sonH1121. 14And the womenH0802 saidH0559 unto NaomiH5281, BlessedH1288 be the LORDH3068, which hath not leftH7673 thee this dayH3117 without a kinsmanH1350, that his nameH8034 may be famousH7121 in IsraelH3478. 15And he shall be unto thee a restorerH7725 of thy lifeH5315, and a nourisherH3557 of thine old ageH7872: for thy daughter in lawH3618, which lovethH0157 thee, which is betterH2896 to thee than sevenH7651 sonsH1121, hath bornH3205 him. 16And NaomiH5281 tookH3947 the childH3206, and laidH7896 it in her bosomH2436, and became nurseH0539 unto it. 17And the women her neighboursH7934 gaveH7121 it a nameH8034, sayingH0559, There is a sonH1121 bornH3205 to NaomiH5281; and they calledH7121 his nameH8034 ObedH5744: he is the fatherH0001 of JesseH3448, the fatherH0001 of DavidH1732.

18Now these are the generationsH8435 of PharezH6557: PharezH6557 begatH3205 HezronH2696, 19And HezronH2696 begatH3205 RamH7410, and RamH7410 begatH3205 AmminadabH5992, 20And AmminadabH5992 begatH3205 NahshonH5177, and NahshonH5177 begatH3205 SalmonH8009, 21And SalmonH8012 begatH3205 BoazH1162, and BoazH1162 begatH3205 ObedH5744, 22And ObedH5744 begatH3205 JesseH3448, and JesseH3448 begatH3205 DavidH1732.
